FIREFIGHTERS of the Vega Sur Park led a magical initiative over the Christmas holidays, delivering a literal truckload of gifts to Social Welfare and the University Hospital. This charitable act made a real difference, helping to ensure vulnerable families and children in need had a special day. The firefighters who took part put smiles on faces and brought much-needed Christmas cheer. Led by park chief Tomás Gallardo, the team spent several days organising a solidarity initiative, culminating in the transportation of a lorry full to the brim with gifts. The first delivery was made to the Department of Social Welfare, where the presents were handed over for distribution to those in greatest need. Councillor for Social Welfare Óscar Urtasun and councillor for Security and Emergencies Federico Alarcón attended the event, alongside technical staff from the city council.

Festive firefighter initiative helps families in need.
Later that day, the dedicated firefighters visited the children’s ward at Torrevieja University Hospital, sharing festive moments with young patients and presenting them with gifts. With their red uniform and festive haul, differentiating them from Santa Clause was difficult.
Panto for a purpose FOLLOWING three packed performances, the ADAPT Theatre Group has donated €3,000 to local charity AFEMAR. The presentation took place during AFEMAR’s Christmas lunch, with ADAPT president Eric Berg handing over the cheque. The donation will support AFEMAR’s vital work with young people experiencing mental health difficulties and their families, a cause warmly welcomed by the organisation. The funds were raised through ADAPT’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, which also marked the group’s first production at the new Teatro Geli Albaladejo. ADAPT Theatre Group is now looking ahead and invites anyone interested in getting involved in a future production to search online for ‘ADAPT Theatre Group’ for more information.
Hospital manager José Gabriel Cano Montero and deputy financial director Paloma Cánovas Colón welcomed the team warmly. The initiative reflects the human and supportive side of the firefighters’ work, demonstrating empathy, social commitment and the importance of community solidarity. The Department of Security and Emergencies publicly
thanked the Vega Sur firefighters for their dedication, professionalism, and compassion, praising the city for having such an exemplary and committed fire service.
