this period. Teams are cleaning coastal waters each day between 10am and 6pm while public bathrooms operate from 8am to 10pm with frequent disinfection. Fresh rules permit small tents up to three by three metres if positioned 15 metres from the tide line. Officials have banned smoking, barbecues, unattended parasol reservations, and shoreline fishing from 9am to 10pm.
AROUND 1,500 residents in the Malaga village of Periana took to the streets for a major protest over safety concerns. More than half the village population marched on Monday, June 1, holding banners demanding a peaceful life. The demonstration followed an attack on a woman and her young daughter in a children’s park. This incident united the community. Neighbours worked together, exerting sustained pressure that forced the family group blamed for repeated robberies, illegal occupations, and threats to leave the town permanently. Demonstrating the power of Andalucian local unity, politicians from across the political spectrum marched together. Mayor Meritxell Vizuete joined forces with opposition politicians Angela Luque and Sagrario Molina. United in their mission, they called on central government for a stronger Guardia Civil presence to support the limited Local Police force. Local leaders stressed that the village’s difficulties reflect a province-wide shortage of more than 1,200 officers. THE Andalucian government has confirmed that design plans for a future Costa del Sol train route now extend to include Almuñecar, Salobreña and Motril within a far bigger project to link the entire Andalucian coast by rail. Confirmation of the extension came after sustained pressure from local councils, business groups and social organisations in the Granada coastal area. Feasibility studies for the main Costa del Sol route remain under way, with results due for publication in September this year. Residents will benefit from improved mobility options that reduce dependence on private cars and provide sustainable travel between coastal communities.
