Romeria traditions TORROX residents are preparing for the Romeria de San Antonio, which takes place from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14. This year marks the 49th edition of the event, which features cultural, musical, equestrian and religious activities. Mayor Oscar Medina praised local residents and associations for their collaboration with the town hall, which is providing logistics and lighting. llos, and live music. On Sunday, June 14, the San Antonio procession begins at 10.30am, leading to a mass at 11am. A traditional bread blessing and a mass paella will follow. The afternoon features a
horseback ribbon race, dance acts, and awards for the best pilgrims and floats, with prizes reaching up to €450. The festival concludes with a performance by Mecamela at 9.30pm and a firework display at 11pm.

Best beach businesses Costa Tropical’s chiringuitos take the prize CHIRINGUITO (beach bar) owners and beach entrepreneurs from Costa Tropical have just received a PROA 2026 award given by the Andalucia Maritime Marine Association for their work in promoting green tourism through modernisation and reduced seasonal dependence. The gala, in its seventh year, took place at the port of Motril in recognition of contributions to economic growth throughout Andalucia. The Association of Chiringuitos and Beach Entrepreneurs of Costa Tropical earned the honour unanimously for serving as a key institutional contact that has advanced sustainable modernisation and legal security of beach installations on the Granada coast. Recognition also covers efforts to modernise and attract tourists all year round. While the competition was tough and based on businesses all along the Andalucia coastline, the award has recognised that the Costa Tropical has the best beach businesses in the whole region, beating competition from as far afield as Cadiz, Marbella and Almeria, and has shown exceptional progress over the last year. The jury also remarked that the association leads the tourist model of transformation into one more competitive and de-seasonalised step while producing high-quality local jobs on the Costa Tropical.
