New health centre Bringing efficiency and better care to residents
MOTRIL Council has announced the 20th International Air Festival on Sunday, June 20. The event takes place along the local coastline, with organisers expecting a record 200,000 visitors for a full day of jaw-dropping aviation. Mayor Luisa Garcia Chamorro presented the plans, calling it Spain’s best aeronautical festival. She recalled its 2005 start with just three helicopters and 500 spectators. It is now a key summer date for Motril and Spain as a whole. Organisers have promised a varied programme ranging from light aircraft to military combat jets, with helicopters featuring prominently as a tribute to the inaugural event. Visitors should arrive a good two hours early via Avenida Nuestra Senora de la Cabeza, Rambla de las Brujas, or the Playa Granada road to avoid congestion. Drone flights are banned all day over restricted airspace.

Communities celebrate together the night of fire COMMUNITIES along Axarquia and Costa Tropical coastlines plan to celebrate San Juan through beach bonfires, fireworks and events from Tuesday June 23 to Wednesday June 24. Rincon de la Victoria has events in La Cala del Moral and Torre de Benagalbon with music and midnight jua burning (a little like Guy Fawkes) on beaches. Salobreña offers live entertainment and pyro-
technics around a bonfire on La Charca beach in its week-long programme with a procession on the 24th. Almuñecar is celebrating bonfires and barbecues on Puerta del Mar and La Herradura to burn old items for good luck. Nerja has permitted bonfires on main beaches under strict cleanup and quiet rules. Torrox organises daytime plaza events on Wednesday June 24.
SALOBREÑA’S new health centre will open on Monday, June 22, with all medical services active from day one. Staff have finalised preparations at the 2,500-square-metre, three-storey facility in the TH1 area, and patient bookings have already got under way. Family medicine, nursing, paediatrics, physiotherapy, and radiology will transfer from the old clinic without interruption. General practitioner slots will rise from seven to eight. The modern layout features a dedicated maternal and infant zone, a separate paediatric section, minor surgery rooms, and health education spaces. Crucially, the centre introduces a second permanent emergency team operating 365 days a year, upgrading a service that previously only ran during summer. Project delivery involved multiple government layers: Salobreña Council provided the land, the Spanish central government secured European Union funding, and Andalucian authorities managed construction and technology. The facility resolves historic parking shortages by offering extensive parking and improved road links. It will serve as the primary care hub for over 17,500 residents across the Costa Tropical zone, including Salobreña, La Caleta, La Guardia, and Lobres, while additionally treating patients from Molvizar, Ítrabo, and Los Guajares.
