Malaga and Alhama de Granada are separated by almost an hour’s drive, a dis tance of 44 kilometres, via the A402. Despite the distance, the historical relationship be tween the two municipali ties has led to a continuous exchange. From the trade that exist ed decades ago to the more incipient tourism, the two heads of the Axarquia re gion and the interior of Granada on the border with the province have created permanent alliances.

Lourdes Pina, the coun cillor for Youth, joined the festivities and couldn’t hide her excitement as she shared the news of the event’s resounding success. From morning until dusk, the market was alive with a colourful array of activities that catered to kids of all ages. The Regional Ministry of Public Works, Territorial Planning, and Hous ing has crafted something incredible, an inventory spotlighting over 7,200 public gems of architectural and local significance across Andalucia. In this treasure trove, a total of 132 public wonders grace the Axarquia re gion’s landscape. Each one has its own story to tell, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of Andalucian culture. Among these, VelezMalaga proud ly stands tall, boasting a whopping 29 architectural gems. But it doesn’t stop there Torrox, Nerja, Rincon de la Vic toria, and other charming towns fol low closely behind, showcasing their unique architectural flair. Rocío Díaz, the councillor for Devel opment, Territorial Planning, and Housing, believes that this compre hensive inventory is a key to unlock ing the rich heritage of Axarquia’s towns.
