Fifty eight children from an orphanage in Gandia enjoyed a day out to remember at Terra Natura, courtesy of RTN

A group of under privileged youngsters from Gandia, had the time of their lives when on a visit to the Terra Natura animal park, courtesy of RTN. The wide grins and smiling faces of the fifty eight happy children, aged between seven and fifteen, from the orphanage, Preventorio Infantil Ntra. Sra. Del Amparo, told their own story. They wandered through the park in awe at the sights and sounds of the exotic wild animals and endangered species on show at the popular attraction on the outskirts of Benidorm. The visit, organised jointly by RTN and the Grant A Wish charity was a ground breaking event for everyone involved, as it was the first occasion all the children from the home had been on a trip together. They had barely been able to contain their excitement for the previous few days, since they were told of the impending trip, asking staff and teachers “Are we going today?” or “when are we going to the zoo?” When the day finally arrived, the adventure began as they boarded the bus laid on to take them on the hour’s journey South, with their own packed lunch, including home baked cupcakes. This award for good practice has been shared with the other local police in the region and was presented along with the award to Pedro Javier Llinares at an annual award ceremony held last week in Valencia,. Three-year-old in swimming pool fall A three-year-old British boy is in intensive care after falling into a swimming pool in Denia. The incident happened at around 2.00pm on Wednesday at the family home in Cami be Betlem on the slope of the Montgo. The boy’s parents soon noticed that he had fallen and called 112 immediately. The boy was unconscious with no pulse and had swallowed a lot of water. Policia Local officers arrived at the scene and recovered the boy’s pulse with a defibrillator just a few minutes before the ambulance arrived and the medical team resuscitated him. The medical team also treated the mother, who suffered an anxiety attack. The ambulance took the boy to Hospital de Denia-MarinaSalud before transferring him to Hospital Clinico de Valencia where he was incubated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He remains stable and staff at the hospital are confident he will recover.

Javea receives marine preservation award

Javea Environmental Mayor Doris Courcelles collected an award at an event at the Oceanografic, Valencia last week as the municipality was recognised for its marine preservation efforts by the Department of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development. Courcelles attended the event with municipal biologist where the latest scientific reports prepared by the Valencian universities and the Institute of Coastal Ecology were presented – focusing on the evolution of species in protected areas such as the Cap Marine Reserve of Sant Antoni.

Continued from Front Page Ramon Howard, from Grant A Wish explained that the children, who have only ever experienced a mostly unstable home life, live in the orphanage solely from Monday to Friday. “They live there during the week and receive schooling from the orphanage” said Ramon “But at a weekend they go back into the care of their parents, who are unable to cope on a full-time basis, or to a guardian or foster home.” He added that the home receives some government subsidies, but relies on charitable donations for food and personal hygiene items. “There is no way the home would be able to fund a seven day a week operation, they just don’t have the money” he said. Once safely inside the park, twenty of the older children were allowed to venture off on their own to explore, with strict instructions on where to reconvene and at what time. The younger ones were ushered, led and often carried

around by the patient orphanage staff and volunteers from the charity, laughing, pushing, pulling and squealing, as kids do from the complete joy and excitement of the occasion. The highlight for most of them was feeding time at the elephant park, when they were able to get up close to the majestic animals as they were their fed lunch. After which, the extensive children’s play zone caught their eyes and that is where they were content to stay awhile. So, off they went, running jumping, climbing and swinging away happily for an hour or two, miles away from their normal lives. A few of the boys, stood by a fence at the side of the play area, with a spectacular view down towards the towering skyscrapers of Benidorm shimmering in the distance. They pointed, wide eyed with wonder, at the vista in front of them, as if they were looking down on another planet, which in many ways they were, as most of them have never travelled outside their home town before. Jody, also from the Grant A Wish charity standing with

colleague Derek Bonnard, watched the children playing and smiled. “Days like this remind us why we do what we do”, she said “All the hard work is worth it, when it pays off with an experience which brings so much happiness into the lives of the children”, she added. “We couldn’t do it on our own, which is why we are so grateful to RTN for paying for the children’s entry tickets, and to the charity shop in Benitatchell for giving cash to pay for the bus, Bakerella for food and cupcakes and also the Grant A Wish Boutique in Javea Old Town for their donations.” said Jody. When asked if the children had experienced a day to remember for a long time, Ramon laughed, “We’ll all remember it”, he joked “Particularly if we get them all home in one piece. Benidorm loving the blues The three main sandy beaches of Benidorm, beloved by millions of tourists every year, have received the coveted European Blue Flag award for the next twelve months. Playa Levante, Playa Poniente and Playa Mal Past, the small, tucked away beach at the foot of the Mirador del Castillo in Benidorm’s Old Town have all received the award. Beaches awarded the Blue Flag must pass stringent environmental conditions such as water quality, information, environmental education, environmental management, safety, services and facilities. City Councillor, responsible for Beaches, Lorenzo Martínez, expressed his satisfaction at the news “The concession of the new Blue Flags that will wave over the beaches" he said "and our waters have an impeccable environmental quality. Martinez added that Benidorm deserves the award. " With these awards it is clear the commitment we have to our most precious treasure … our beaches," he explained. The Comunitat Valenciana will fly blue flags on 129 beaches and 15 ports during 2017, four more than last year, which places the autonomy in first place in the Spanish ranking, receiveing 684 ensigns. Behind Valencia are Galicia (113), Catalonia (95) and Andalusia (90).

Norwegians party on the streets of Alfas by Andy Mansell Over four thousand Norwegians celebrated their most important day of the year with a huge party on the streets of their adopted home town last Wednesday. Norwegian National Day May 17, is the biggest event on the calendar for the Scandinavian country, celebrating it’s independence 203 years ago in 1814. The independence day party in Alfas del Pi has been running for 46 years, since the first Norwegians began settling in the town. Each year the festivities get bigger, with organised music, flag waving and general fun and happiness to commemorate the signing of the nation’s constitution. Alfas del Pi has the second largest concentration of Norwegians in the world outside Norway, with more than 2,500 registered in the town. However, unnoficial estimates suggest the actual number is significantly higher in real terms, as many remain unregistered and that the actual figure is anything from 5,000 to 10,000 nationals. Addressing the delighted crowd at the party, mayor of Alfas del Pi, Vicente Arques was keen to emphasise the growing importance of the relationship between the Norwegian and Spanish population of the town, a bond that has strengthened over the last 46."Today we celebrate the 203 anniversary of the Constitution of 1814. That year Norway became a sovereign state by approving a new constitution, the most liberal of the moment," he said. He also referred to the id-

iosyncratic nature of Alfas del Pi, a town of 22,000 inhabitants, where more than 50% of the population is of foreign origin from more than one hundred nationalities. "Especially noteworthy is the Norwegian colony, the second largest in the world, which is of vital importance to us," said Arques. The ‘Spanish Norway’ statistics are strong and speak for themselves of the growing population of Norwegians who help to boost the town’s economy. The Norwegian Club Costa Blanca, with more than a thousand members, will celebrate its 47th anniversary this year. Denia councillor resigns Denia councillor Mari Martinez handed her notice in last week citing ‘strictly personal and professional’ reasons. She will be replaced by Esteban Chornet in July. Martinez became councillor after the resignation of Juan Sancho in 2011 She thanked residents of Denia for their ‘confidence’ and the ‘immense honour of having been able to work for them.’ This marks the third councillor resignation in Denia this year after those of Fran Vives (PP) and Antonio Losada.

Four men arrested for 95,000 euro Altea bike thefts

by Andy Mansell Guardia Civil officers from Altea, swooped to arrest four men for the theft of top of the range road bikes in two separate operations last week. The suspects, who live in Altea and Benidorm, were charged with stealing at least 40 bikes with a combined retail value of 95,000 euros.The Guardia Civil, began the investigations following a spate of robberies targeting specialized bike shops in and around Altea in recent weeks, always involving the theft of high end merchandise. The first arrest made, were of two well known drug addicts from Altea, aged 20 and 22, who had a history of robbery in the town and who police believe stole the bikes to fund their heroin addiction. Guardia Civil officers surprised the thieves, catching them redhanded in possession of two bikes, after being alerted by the owner of the shop they were stolen from. The two men were charged with stealing the two bikes, but also under investigation for the theft of 31 more with a total value of 35,000 euros.Although the men were aware of the true value of the merchandise, they sold them on to third parties quickly for a fraction of their retail price. On one occasion the sold a bike valued at 3500 euros for just 70 euros.

After the arrests, the 22-year-old has been taken into custody and the 20-year-old has been released on probation.In a separate operation, Guardia Civil officers, again from Altea, investigating the theft of bikes from businesses in the town, have arrested two British men from Benidorm. The thieves targeted highly priced, top of the range road bikes and electric bikes all with retail values of around â‚Ź60,000.The officers discovered the thefts always occurred between 10.00pm and 12.00am after the stores had closed for businesses. However, it became apparent that the protagonists had already visited the shops during business hours to determine the levels of out of hours security and had also made threats of violence to an owner who caught them in the act of stealing one of his bikes. He was able to report to the Guardia Civil that the thieves were travelling in a vehicle with a UK registration plate, helping to narrow down the investigation. Officers swooped on a campsite in Benidorm, arresting two British men one aged 21 and the other 27 years of age. They were arrested and charged with the robberies of at least 12 bikes with an estimated value in excess of sixty thousand euros and later released on the charges.

Ian Brady, ‘Moors murderer’, dies aged 79 One of Britain's most notorious killers, ‘Moors murderer’ Ian Brady, who murdered five children with his lover and accomplice Myra Hindley during a sadistic two-year reign of terror in the 1960s died on Monday. by Tahnee Wright Brady and Hindley were jailed for life in 1966 for abducting, torturing, sexually abusing and then murdering the children before burying their young victims on the bleak Saddleworth Moor near the northern city of Manchester. Brady died at Ashworth secure hospital in Liverpool, where he has been housed since 1985 after being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, aged 79. ‘We can confirm a 79-year-old patient in longterm care at Ashworth High Secure Hospital has died after becoming physically unwell,’ a spokesman for the hospital said. For many of his last years, Brady had been on intermittent hunger strike and staff at Ashworth fed him via a tube through the nose on the grounds he was insane and incapable of deciding to end his own life. In 2013, Brady asked to be moved to a Scottish prison so he could not be force fed, as he could be in hospital, and where he could be allowed to die if he wishes. His request was rejected in a Mental Health Tribunal as it was ruled necessary in his interests and for the safety of others that he remain at Ashworth. In February, he was refused permission to launch a High Court fight to have the lawyer of his choice

representing him at a tribunal where the decision would be reviewed. The sadistic nature of the Moors Murderers' killings made them among the most despised figures in Britain. Brady was found guilty of snatching and killing 12-year-old John Kilbride, Edward Evans, 17, Lesley Ann Downey, 10, while Hindley was convicted of murdering Downey and Evans and shielding her lover in the third case. In the 1980s, the couple admitted abducting and murdering 16-year-old Pauline Reade on her way to a Manchester disco in 1963 and killing Keith Bennett, 12, in 1964. They were finally caught when Hindley's brother-in-law tipped off police. Although their crimes took place 40 years ago, the revulsion felt by Britons and the hatred directed at them by the tabloid press hardly diminished. Hindley was Britain's longest serving female prisoner when she died in 2002 after 36 years in jail.Successive UK governments had refused to release her despite her claims she had reformed and was driven to commit the murders by the psychopathic Brady. He insisted she was as much to blame. He had tried to court favour by helping police to find the missing body of Bennett. But despite exhaustive

searches, his body has never been found. When she was cremated, a banner which read "Burn in hell" was left outside the building.Brady escaped the hangman's noose as the death penalty was abolished just months earlier and was handed three life sentences.

14 arrested over burger meat fraud Spanish police have arrested and charged 14 people with fraud and breaching consumer rights, following accusations that a Spanish meat company has been selling low-quality beef burgers with incorrect labelling. Some burgers were found with under 25 per cent beef content according to the authorities.The meat processing plant, based in Burgos, labelled the products as containing a certain percentage of beef. In reality, the products had less beef content than was claimed, with pork, bread, fats or soy substituted instead, according to the Guardia Civil. Evidence going back at least to 2002 was acquired by authorities that suggests quick-frozen beef products were being made by the company that sometimes contained under 25% actual beef. The Guardia Civil described the case as a major example of food fraud on a national level.The police investigation into the fraud began in December 2015, when the Guardia Civil ‘became aware’ of potentially fraudulent activity on the part of the company, whose name has not been disclosed. As part of the investigation, 3,000 documents were examined by authorities and meat samples from multiple facilities of the company in question were analysed in laboratories. The results of these tests showed that, contrary to labels showing beef as the main ingredient, a high percentage of burgers contained substitute ingredients. The firm at the centre of the matter reportedly produces ‘white-label’ goods for other firms – for example, supermarkets, to distribute under their own branding. The police stated: ‘The scope of marketing appears to be very high as the company manufactured white-label products that were distributed in the domestic market.’ The nature of the processed products (hamburgers, meatballs and so on) prevented the discovery of the deception prior to the operation, as analysis in a specialized laboratory would be needed to identify the fraud, the Guardia Civil said in a statement. Considerable differences in price for beef and prices for the substituted materials purportedly gave an ‘important economic benefit’ to the company in question.

Bed-ridden British woman travels to Spain for lifesaving surgery A young woman from Northumberland, who has to lie down flat all the time, has flown to Spain for life-saving surgery. Melanie Hartshorn, who is 27, needs an operation which will fuse the base of her skull to her spine, to prevent her from suffering fatal brain damage. A neurosurgeon in Barcelona has agreed to take on Melanie's case at a cost of £80,000. ‘It's been a bit of a nightmare because we've had to organise medical flights with a nurse and a doctor and to take all my equipment over and all my medication and that has cost a lot more money than expected so we still have to raise quite a lot of money to cover the cost of the flights for the flights home as well.’ ‘I'm nervous but grateful and I am relieved that it is finally happening and that we have the date now and we're hoping to be away for about 5 weeks and then hopefully come home.’ ‘It's like a long recovery from the surgery because it is a big operation so we just have to see how it goes.’ Melanie suffers from a rare genetic condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. It means her joints dislocate and can't hold her body together. As a result, she is completely bed-bound as the risk of irreversible damage from even minor movements is very high. The surgery is a risky procedure that will involve fusing the base of Mel's skull to her spine, to prevent irreversible fatal brain damage.

Singaporean cargo ship captain rescued from sea near Spain

by Tahnee Wright The captain of a large Singaporean cargo ship was found drifting at sea off the coast of southern Spain clinging to a life buoy in a ‘very serious state,’ police said Tuesday. Passers-by in the port of Tarifa told officers Monday they had spotted a man in visibly poor condition drifting at sea in high winds and strong waves, according to a police statement. Police rescued him and emergency

services rushed him to hospital. Wearing only a white shirt, the man was ‘gripping a rigid life buoy fitted with a beacon,’ police said.‘He presented signs of extreme hypothermia, bloated lips, face and eyes, and swollen eyelids due to exposure to the sun and salty water,’ indicating he had been adrift for several hours, according to the police. They added the man also had bruises. The Spanish Interior Ministry praised the rescue on Twitter, describing the

man's state as ‘very serious.’The ship, which according to specialised sites is a vehicle transport vessel, had alerted Spanish rescue services that a man ‘may have fallen overboard’, that morning, police said.The vessel, named ‘Morning Ninni’ was sailing close to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on the African coast. Spanish authorities later confirmed that the rescued man was indeed the ship's captain. He remains in serious condition, according to the police.

Six tonnes of Colombian cocaine seized Spanish authorities co-operated with Ecuadorean police to intercept a ship that was bringing more than six tonnes of cocaine into the country, officials said on Monday. In a separate drug seizure announced on Monday, Spanish police said they stopped a ship carrying 2.8 tonnes of cocaine in a joint operation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, Britain's National Crime Agency and police in neighbouring Portugal. Ecuadorean agents boarded a freighter when it was almost three nautical miles off the coast of Ecuador's Santa Elena province, Spain's Interior Ministry said in a statement. The ship was loaded with Colombian cocaine in the Pacific and planned to travel through the Panama Canal and across the Atlantic to Europe, the statement said.The shipment was believed to have been organised by a drugtrafficking ring in northeastern Galicia.Ecuadorean police found 176 bags of cocaine concealed in the cargo and arrested the 20 men on the ship. One of them was a Spaniard allegedly belonging to the Galician ring. Four others were arrested in Spain. Meanwhile, a Venezuela-flagged ship was intercepted by Spanish special operations police and customs agents at sea on May 4 and was towed to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. The seven crew members were arrested.The police operation began after Spain found out in January that a South American ring with links in Spain was organising a large shipment. That information was corroborated by intelligence also gathered by the U.S., Britain and Portugal, the statement said. Large seizures of cocaine and cannabis aren't uncommon in Iberia, which is seen as a drug gateway to Europe.Spanish police captured almost nine tonnes of cocaine from four vessels in 2015 and 2016 and arrested 80 people, the police statement said.

Former Moto GP champion in cycle crash Former Moto GP champion and current Honda World Superbike factory rider Nicky Hayden is in serious condition, having sustained injuries in a road accident in Italy. by Andy Mansell Reports from Italy are stating that 2006 Moto GP champion motorcycle racer has suffered dramatic injuries in a collision with a Peugeot in Rimini. According to onlookers, 36-year-old Hayden – who is a keen cyclist – was riding with a group of fourteen others when the incident took place. It has been reported that he was involved in a direct collision with the car, and that the collision saw Hayden thrown over the bonnet and into the windscreen.Ambulances and medics on site treated the injury as life-threatening and soon after he was transferred to a hospital in Rimini where he was treated for severe chest and head trauma.At 18:00 some four hours after the accident, Rimini hospital staff announced that he’d been moved to the major trauma unit in Cesena for possible surgery, with his condition at the time being referred to as ‘critical’. US-based motorcycling website Asphalt & Rubber have given out unconfirmed reports that Hayden has received surgery and is now in a ‘medically induced coma’, a state in which he’s likely to remain for the next 24 hours.

Applicants should have a 'clear sales orientation' and 'excellent customer service skills', as well as being able to work well in a team, digital or computer skills and 'great potential for development'. Students and young people looking for their first job are expected to fill most of the vacancies, but the positions are open to all age groups and experience levels. Potential will be valued as much as prior experience, so those who believe they have what it takes to make a success of the job will be considered even if they have never worked in a hypermarket or similar position before. Benidorm in the movies again

Filming of the French movie RG02 began earlier this week on Levante Beach

by Andy Mansell Lights, Camera, Action return to the beaches and streets of Benidorm over the next few weeks as filming of a French movie for cinema release began earlier this week. The film, titled RG02, will be the first movie by Romain Gavras - son of the legendary director Costas Gavras. The French production starring by Vincent Cassel and Isabel Adjani is set between the two cities of Paris

and Benidorm. Benidorm Film Office is coordinating this shoot with the two producers involved in the project, the French Iconoclast and the Spanish Cactus Flower Productions. They will manage the day to day arrangements of location shoots in the urban areas, liasing with other departments of the city to cause as little disruption as possible. Although the main actors have yet to arrive in the city, part of the technical and artistic team has begun

working this week, shooting scenes on Levante beach. The RG02 team consists of about 80 people, and will be staying in the city, where filming will last for seven weeks. Benidorm City Hall estimates that the filming project will bring around one million euros into the city, taking into account accommodation costs, plus labour and service contracts. Producers were in the city in April conducting a casting call to hire 850 extras for the movie.

U3A Vall del Pop news 47 members of the U3A Vall del Pop set off from Jalon last Thursday to visit the Fallas museum and Lladro factory in Valencia. Arriving in Valencia, the group headed to the Museum of the Fallas ‘A truly amazing experience where the stunning paintings and ninots of the best fallas produced in Valencia are displayed. The range of subjects and the quality of the brightly coloured models was extremely captivating and we could have spent much longer viewing these exquisite models. ’After stopping for lunch, the group then made their way to the Lladro Porcelain Factory - ‘Here we were shown a short video of the history of the Lladro family, who were born in Al Massera and the starting of their business, followed by a comprehensive guide of the production line and a visit to their shop. Again an awe-inspiring experience seeing the very skilful artists at work hand colouring each individual piece and learning how the pieces are made, fired and joined together in readiness for hand painting. The level of detail and the range of pieces is fantastic. ’The group express their greatest thanks to the organisers of the trip and of course, coach driver Antonio. Javea car-enthusiasts visit Ford factory

A group of car-enthusiasts recently drove in convoy to Valencia for a tour of the Ford factory. Although not an official Javea U3A trip, all 20 visitors are members of the U3A and it was organised by U3A stalwart and former Ford big-wig Stan Staines. The group began their day meeting in Javea Port, before travelling north on the AP7 motorway in a fleet of six of their own Ford Kugas - appropriately the Valencia plant’s top-selling model.The group were met at the factory by Ford officials, who accompanied them around the vast plant in an open land train for a rare glimpse of the production line. The plant produces 1,800 cars a day and employs 8,000 people as well as 2,000 robots. Members of the group were impressed by the scale of the operation and amazed to learn that the plant consumes the same volume of electricity per day as the entire population of Gandia. While modern-day technology was the order of the day, the group struggled to contain their enthusiasm for a 1970s Ford Fiesta, which takes pride of place in the foyer. Teulada-Moraira U3A on South East Asia trip 38 members of Teulada-Moraira U3A recently returned from an aweinspiring 29-day trip to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Arriving in to Bangkok, Thailand on a stopover, the group went sightseeing and took some time to relax before heading on to Cambodia.In Cambodia, the group visited Angkor Wat and many neighbouring temples set in the rich jungle. Members thoroughly enjoyed a homestay in a village called Banteay Chhmar and the local children couldn’t have been happier when the Travel Group donated 90 books to the village library. The group then journeyed down the Mekong before heading to the Central Highlands of Vietnam where they visited the ancient towns of Hoi An and Hue, hopping on another vessel to cruise Halong Bay for three days. Returning to Thailand before flying home, the group set off on a jungle walk and visited the old capital and the bridge over the River Kwai.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently criticised the re-writing of history. Timely, for Victory Day, a masterpiece of fairy-tale history was set to take place two weeks later on May 9. I suggest that Finland declares March 13 Victory Day. On that day in 1940, this sparsely peopled nation repelled and routed Stalin’s invading Red Army. Finnish defence forces, mostly farmers and foresters, were outnumbered 3/1 in troops, 30/1 aircraft, 100/1 tanks. Yet, within 12 weeks the badly mauled Red Army retreated and Stalin capitulated. Russians might consider March 12 for revelry. On that day in 1940 U.S President Roosevelt signed the Lend Lease Act. Inked 10 months before America’s entry into the war the Act guaranteed the USSR unlimited resources in support of Soviet territorial expansionism. Given such assurances, Joe Stalin one year later, placed 4.5 million Red Army troops on Europe’s borders; the invasion and occupation of which was scheduled for July 1941. Predictably, Germany took Napoleon’s advice: ‘he who hits first hits twice’. On June 22, 1941, Germany pre-emptively struck. Within 12 weeks the Red Army was routed and swept back to the gates of Leningrad, Moscow and Stalingrad. An irony Russians prefer not to mention is that Soviet General Andrei Vlasov, eulogised for his defence of Moscow, later defected to the Reich taking his armies with him.When Victory Day is celebrated whose victory is it? Recognition ought to go to U.S President Roosevelt and Britain’s wartime premier Winston Churchill. Such was the volume of aid sent to the near defeated USSR that Soviet dictator Joe Stalin and Marshal Georgy Zhukov gave credit where credit was due. Chief of Soviet General Staff Marshal Georgy K.

Zhukov, in his memoirs, says ‘U.S aid to the Soviet Union during World War II was crucial to the victory over Nazi Germany.’ As reported in the Los Angeles Times (Oct 20, 1987) Josef Stalin wrote to Roosevelt: “We would have been in a difficult position without American gunpowder, we could not have produced the quantities of ammunition we needed. “Without U.S Studebakers we would have had

nothing with which to pull our artillery. They largely provided our transport at the front, producing steels, necessary for the most diverse needs of war, also involved certain U.S supplies.”Albert L. I know my plaice by

I love fish and chips, but it’s never as good as the old fashioned grub from my boyhood days when lard was used in the frying. Pure poison we are now told, but the smell from the chip shop was exquisite and the taste of the food even more so. Life turns on a sixpence my dad used to say and it’s true, because one of the most significant moments of my life occurred in our local chippie on the council estate where we lived. It was a Friday night, so there was a long queue when I arrived and as it snaked its way towards the order counter, I had time to peruse the tasty items on offer in the glass fronted cabinet. Do I fancy a piece of haddock I thought, or perhaps a spam fritter or savaloy. But savaloys weren’t really my thing. No batter for a start. What about one of those nice pies keeping warm in the rotisserie. But then I saw a solitary piece of fish away from the cod and haddock and I made up my mind. Tonight I will have plaice, more expensive but what the heck. I just hoped nobody else would buy it. I was next in line when I caught sight of the wall calendar which depicted a pretty scene of pastel houses tumbling over themselves surrounding a small harbour. I left the queue to look at this closely. It was stunning and I could almost see myself in the picture leaning on the stone wall gazing out over the bobbing fishing boats. “What can I do you for mate?” I vaguely heard the assistant call out. But I was transfixed and could not tear my eyes away from the scene. ‘Polperro’ it said below the picture and I knew with absolute certainty, that’s where I wanted to live. I hadn’t noticed that the bloke behind me had been served in my absence, but luckily the kind lady behind beckoned me forward to make my order. “Plaice and chips please” I said cheerfully and was suddenly ravenous for that expensive piece of fish. My future stars had just changed. “Sorry, that gentleman had the last one” said the assistant. Damn, it looked like it was a battered sausage after all. But six months later I was living in beautiful Cornwall and there were no regrets about losing my plaice.

Position of adjectives Basic Spanish for everyday needs by

There are so many more things to the Spanish language than verbs. Have you ever puzzled about the position of adjectives? I’m sure it must have kept you awake for at least five minutes some night or other. This is what happens – you start off by assuming that adjectives go in front of nouns and are reassured in this assumption by the fact that the barman always understands you when you say “grande cerveza”. Then you learn that that was wrong and that the barman was just humouring you. You should have been saying “cerveza grande” all along because in Spanish adjectives go after the things they describe – car fast, dress blue etc. Well, all of that is fine until you start paying closer attention to the Spanish that you see and hear around you and discover that in fact, sometimes, adjectives go in front of nouns, but it’s extremely difficult to work out why. So, here are some guidelines which might be of assistance. Adjectives follow nouns when they describe it and differente it from other nouns. For example “el vestido azul” (the blue dress) differentiates it from “el vestido verde” and “el vestido amarillo”. However, the adjective goes in front of the nouns when it describes some inherent quality in the noun, rather than differentiating it from other nouns of a similar ilk. This is more difficult to explain than to show examples, I feel, so here we go: La blanca nieve (the white snow); la roja sangre (the red blood); las altas montañas (the high mountains); la mejor idea (the best idea); un buen amigo (a good friend); el grave error (the serious mistake). In all of these examples the adjectives intensify and enhance the nouns. I know you could argue that there are low mountains, bad ideas or not so serious mistakes, but the idea behind these expressions is not to differentiate the nouns from others, but to enhance their inherent qualities.There are other kinds of adjectives that always go in front of nouns, such as the words for this, that, my, and another: este hombre; esa mujer, mi amigo, otro día. When there are two adjectives, we can link them with “y” or we can surround the noun with the less important adjective first. “El coche caro y rápido” “Los jugadores altos y fuertes” “La famosa autora inglesa” “Las viejas casas coloniales”. As you can probably imagine, sometimes the judgment about what is more important is a subjective one.Finally, sometimes the position of the adjectives changes the meaning – before the noun it is more figurative, and after the noun it is more literal. For example: Un gran hombre (a great man) - Un hombre grande (a big man); el nuevo coche (the new car - replacement) - el coche nuevo (the “brand” new car); mi único amigo (my only friend) - mi amigo único (unique); pobre gente (poor people - to be pitied) -gente pobre (people with no money).

Spain demands deeper euro zone integration

Spain's conservative government has demanded deeper integration in the euro zone, suggesting in a paper to Brussels that members of the bloc should pool debt management and share a budget to fight crisis financial shocks. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and France's new President Emmanuel Macron agreed on Monday to an initiative for deeper European Union integration and opened the door to changing the bloc's treaties after meeting in Berlin. Spain is not alone - France is also pushing for greater cooperation among the 19 countries that use the euro currency. The demand comes after the EU was rocked by Britain's decision to leave, prompting countries to take positions on how best to shore up unity in the bloc. Spain's proposals, which also include a common euro zone unemployment insurance scheme, were submitted to the European Commission in February but came to light this week and were released by the economy ministry on Tuesday. Spanish conservative Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has long called for further integration and a euro zone banking union, including creating a deposit insurance scheme. Spanish government's proposals go even further than those

Germany and France have proposed, including suggesting common debt management is a vital part of any fiscal union. ‘Participating member states should allow for a certain degree of debt mutualisation,’ the paper said. Friendly workplaces are less innovative ‘Group think’ can hinder innovation. Work friendships can contribute to a lack of creative diversity in the office, according to new research from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. ‘Relational capital and individual exploration: Unravelling the influence of goal alignment and knowledge acquisition’, a paper that examines the double-edged sword of friendships between colleagues, has revealed that work friendships discourage employees from challenging ‘group think’. Tom Mom, along with co-authors Pepijn van Neerijnen, Patrick Reinmoeller and Ernst Verwaal, demonstrate that by aligning themselves, employees become less likely to innovate away from the established and accepted ‘norm’. The researchers examined 150 respondents within large R&D departments of three Fortune Global 500 firms, gauging whether their accounts of personal friendships affected individual creativity, in information obtained from their colleagues. Mom commented: ‘Of course, having a network of friends at work is a positive circumstance, both personally and professionally. Not only does this enable innovation and creativity through increased knowledge exchange, but being able to trust one another and speak candidly opens doors to growth. Business

development has always been huge priority for firms and the focus has recently shifted to maximising individual employees’ outputs. By taking measures such as cross-sectional working, mixed training exercises or even the rotation of teams, managers can ensure that they reap the positive benefits of work relationships without slipping into the trap of over-familiarity

and goal-alignment.’ He adds: ‘This also highlights the very real need for companies to increase diversity at board level in order to combat ‘group-think’, which would ultimately hinder innovation. On everyone’s lips Portugal has won the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time, narrowly beating Bulgaria and Moldova in a nailbiting grand final… nail-biting is an understatement, I was bricking it! Former X-Factor contestant Lucie Jones provided the UK with its highest score since 2009, finishing in 15th place with 111 points. Salvador Sobral’s poignant song Amar Pelos Dois emerged victorious with 758 points, with the 27-year-old describing his win as a “victory for music”. Portugal are the longest-running contestants never to have won the competition, despite trying for 53 years. Amor Pelos Dois was written by Sobral’s sister, Luisa, who finished third in Portugal’s version of Pop Idol – the same contest that the Eurovision winner finished seventh in. As Sobral collected the trophy, Graham Norton – who provided the commentary for the ceremony – noted that the singer looked as “nonplussed now as he has throughout this competition” despite not being touted as a favourite throughout this week’s semi-finals.

Hot off the press Brad Pitt has insisted he’s not suicidal following his split from Angelina Jolie and subsequent public custody battle over their six children. The Hollywood star has returned to the spotlight having been investigated by Children’s Services following an alleged incident, where it was ruled that he was cleared of any wrongdoing, as well as a bitter dispute played out in the media with his former wife.

BGT scandal… again! Angara Contortion, the contortionist group who made us and David Walliams gasp in horror and admiration with their frankly insane body skills/strength/flexibility on Britain's Got Talent, have found themselves caught up in a cheating scandal. The group, who bagged four massive yeses from the judges, are apparently already mega successful as they have spent years travelling the world as part of the famous dance troupe Cirque du Soleil. Cirque du Soleil is the largest theatrical production in the world and the show has been watched by 160 million people in 400+ countries. The group have also performed on James Corden's Late Late Show in L.A. My thoughts: Come on people, we all know that BGT is a heavily, over-produced show, which is done mainly for entertainment value. Half the acts are scouted and invited on the show anyway! The performance was still incredible regardless of their background and career… enough!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang comes to Ondara Ondara Auditorium will play host to the The Stage School of Performing Art’s production of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ on Sunday May 28. The Stage School of Performing Arts, Javea is a part time performing arts school for children and young adults aged 6 to 17 years of age run by highly qualified sister act Lucy Glister and Emma Devine, who boast a wealth of real performance and professional theatre experience. Lucy and Emma’s aim is to offer fun filled, challenging and rewarding training in dance, drama, singing and stage craft. Disciplines designed to not only improve performance techniques but develop confidence and articulation. Lucy trained at London Studio Centre and graduated with honours in Musical theatre and associate membership to the British Ballet Organisation. She has worked as a professional vocalist and dancer in West End productions and internationally in a variety of stage shows and television programmes. Over the past 10 years, Lucy has been producing professional shows for many well-known hotel chains around the world, including Hilton and Grecotel. For her last U.K engagement, Lucy worked as Show Producer for Openwide International in London. She created and produced the award-winning Ibiza Marquee Mardi Gras show and all productions for Airtours Cruise ships and Thompson Holidays. Alongside her production work, Lucy co-created with Emma, successful musical theatre groups in Tunbridge Wells and Wimbledon. She also works as a freelance dance choreographer and vocal coach. Emma graduated from Surrey University with an honours degree in Drama and English Literature. As a trained actress, Emma gained good grounding within the industry touring nationally in repertory theatre and working in a variety of pantomimes, stage shows and television programmes. Emma is also an accomplished dancer and has enjoyed working in many musical theatre shows. Emma returned to university and gained a post graduate certification in education. She

Geoff Gartland, original founder of RTN newspaper and local entrepreneur has lived in, worked in and promoted Benidorm and it’s varied gay scene for many years. He and co-organiser Sammy Kruz wanted an early summer event to fill the long wait between the September Pride each year, so Pink Weekend became the opportunity they needed and this year is set to be bigger and better than ever. The fun begins on Thursday May 25, in the dozens of gay and gay friendly venues throughout the Old Town, many of whom will be holding their own pink parties and events, through the weekend. On Friday and Saturday evening, the action moves up to the spectacular setting Santos (Backstage Crew), Geoff (Organiser and ‘Dj Spinner), Roxie (Co Presenter) and Sammy of the Mirador Del Castillo, sitting high on a viewpoint at the top of the old town, (Co-Organiser and Co-Presenter) check out the Mirador del Castillo with amazing vistas in every direction. The weekend parties hosted by presenters Sammy Kruz and Roxie Corazon are packed with international DJ’s, singers and dancers all performing on stage underneath the stars, overlooking the sea. On Friday the very best of Benidorm talent will be on stage, when a host of local singers, tribute acts, drag artists, Dj’s, dancers and maybe the odd surprise performer, will entertain from 7.00pm until the early hours and entry is free. Saturday night from 7.00pm sees the venue turn into Pink Paradise Club Night, with top DJ’s, live acts and the one and only DRAG ATTACK, an extravaganza not to be missed, for an entry of €10 including drink. Each night has a full bar service and party-goers are positively encouraged to dress in the pinkest, campest most outrageous way possible.

Calpe set for a night of fascinating rhythm Caprice, the all-female vocal harmony ensemble will be smooching their way into Calpe, early next month ,for one night only, with their show entitled Fascinating Rhythm.

The concert, at Calpe Tennis Club on Friday June 2, will feature a wide selection of songs from various musical genres including Gershwin classics, songs by The Carpenters and their trademark show tunes. Bette Midler’s iconic ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ is amongst the repertoire, along with the tear jerker, ‘Tell me It’s Not True’ from the ever popular musical Blood Brothers.

Various solos and duets will also showcase the talents of the individual members, contrasting with the group numbers which are all sung in three part harmony. Once the concert is over, the audience will be served a three course meal, complete with wine to complete the evening of fine entertainment. The performance, which starts at 6.30pm, will be helping to raise funds

for Calpe Ayuda, a worthy cause which provides food and meals for under privileged families in Calpe. Tickets cost €17 which includes the concert and the meal. Exhibition of collective art in Javea

The Casa del Cable on Avenida Marina Espanola, Javea will play host to an exhibition of collective art from Friday June 2.The international art exhibition will bring together for the first time in real space, the work of nineteen featured artists from three countries. Their work will be grouped by country in three large sections – French, Argentinian and Spanish. These artists have spent many years exhibiting, both individually and collectively, and they have all achieved recognition in their countries of origin. Their work can also be grouped into two sectors, according to their techniques. One sector, composed of both Argentinian and Spanish artists, is expressed through figurative engraving and graphic work. Artists - Paco Aguilar, Mercedes Puente, Miguel Angel Maciel, Yolanda Carbajales, Rafael Gil and Deborah Chapman. The other sector shows work created through the technique of abstract informalism or geometric use of oil, acrylic or mixed media on canvas or wood. Artists - Massin, Andre Lambert, Monica Lebedinsky, Lidia Prause, Juan A. Caravaca, Antonio San Martin, Lola Castillejo, Charles-Henri Lavanne, Colette Denizot, Claudine Boucq and Bernadette Morand. WATCH OUT FOR - Argentinian Daniel Miraglia, who uses digitized expression for his work, will exhibit. Daniel comes from the world of music and makes digital compositions of his own music, both in still and mobile images. WATCH OUT FOR - Spanish artist Fuensanta Ninirola, has, after years of using brush and spatula, moved to digital work, printing compositions in methacrylates and paper. The nineteen artists are eagerly awaiting the inauguration, which will be attended by part of the Argentinian team, a large part of the French and almost all the Spanish artists. Healthy walking programame

On a glorious morning some two weeks ago, 23 walkers of the Moraira-Teulada U3A Walking Group climbed to the 11 windmills above Javea, stopping at the top to take in the fantastic views of Javea itself and the coast south to Calpe. The group is led by John Dimsdale and walks are held every week on a Tuesday and Thursday. The walks are of approximately one hour duration - the faster walkers take to the front with the leader, whilst those who

need to take it a little slower are accompanied at the rear by another leader. All U3A members are welcome to join. Be sure to wear adequate shoes. Kenny, I seem to be finding feathers all around my house, when there are no feathered cushions or birds! A friend told me that these are the messages of the angels and that they have something to say to me. I’d like to believe this, but why the message? JJ. Well JJ I have heard so many stories that came from feathers. I myself have experienced this phenomenon many times and reached the conclusion that sometimes I do not listen and this is a way of getting my attention. I would like to think that the Angels are taking the very best care of me. If this means the odd feather falls near to me then I am thankful for the contact. Type 2 Diabetes There are estimated to be millions of people with undiagnosed Diabetes, are you one of them?

Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high. There are two main types of diabetes – type 1 and type 2. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin to maintain a normal blood glucose level, or the body is unable to use the insulin that is produced. The pancreas (a large gland behind the stomach) produces the hormone insulin, which moves glucose from your blood into your cells where it is converted into energy. Symptoms The main symptoms of type 1 and type 2 diabetes are very similar. The high blood sugar levels makes you: • Feel thirsty • Pass urine more often particularly at night • Feel tired all the time • Have unexplained weight loss • Have cuts or wounds that heal slowly • Have Itching around the penis or vagina, or frequent bouts of thrush • Have blurred vision which is caused by the lens becoming dry

The signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes are often mild and develop over a number of years and are therefore not as obvious. It is often diagnosed during a routine checkup. Untreated diabetes can damage your organs, so it’s important that it is diagnosed as early as possible. Risk factors Four of the main risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes are: • Age - being over 40. This may be because people tend to weigh more and exercise less as they get older. • Genetics – having a close relative with the condition (parent, brother or sister) • Weight – being overweight or obese. In particular, fat around the abdomen increases your risk. This is because it releases chemicals that can upset the body’s cardiovascular and metabolic systems. • Ethnicity – being of south Asian, Chinese,

African-Caribbean or black African origin (even if born in Europe) Other risks Your risk of developing type 2 diabetes is also increased if your blood glucose level is higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes.This is sometimes called “prediabetes” or impaired fasting glycaemia (IFG) or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). If you are concerned that you might be at risk a simple blood test can check your blood sugar and relieve your mind.

Mum’s the word In a survey commissioned by pro-age beauty brand Look Fabulous Forever, which creates make-up for mature skin, it was found that despite the torrent of beauty advice we get from experts and celebrities, it’s actually our mums we’re most likely to listen to in the beauty stakes. In fact, 64 per cent of daughters say they trust their mother over anyone else when it comes to beauty tips. A total of 500 18-49-year-old women were questioned for the survey, with the participants sharing the best things they’ve learnt from their mum. Topping the list of the 10 best pieces of beauty advice is taking your make-up off before bed, which received an impressive 56 per cent of the vote. At number two was remembering to moisturise your neck as well as your face, scoring 28 per cent, followed closely by always smile as you’ll automatically look more beautiful, with 26 per cent.

3 reasons why gardening is the therapy for you Itâ€™s time to whip out your gardening gloves because not only are digging and weeding great exercise, a good stint of gardening boosts mental health, too. Recent research carried out by Harvard University found that people living in an area rich in vegetation have improved physical and mental health. Professor Tim Lang, Centre for Food Policy at City University London, says it's widely recognised that regular contact with plants, animals and the natural environment can improve our physical health and mental wellbeing. When we grow food and flowers, we're engaging with the natural world at a pace that provides a welcome antidote to the stresses of modern life. GPs in London have already started to prescribe gardening time, with the help of Lambeth GP Food Co-operative, which aims to harness the physical and mental therapeutic benefits of gardening while growing more local produce. 1. Soil is an antidepressant Soil has been found to have similar effects on the brain as antidepressants to lift mood. A study by the University of Bristol and colleagues at University College London looked at how mice exposed to 'friendly' bacteria normally found in soil, altered their behaviour in a similar way to that produced by an antidepressant. When the team looked closely at the brains of mice, they found treatment with the bacteria Mycobacterium vaccae activated a group of neurons that produce the brain chemical serotonin, which regulates mood. Gardeners inhale the bacteria and have physical contact with it. The natural effects of the soil bacteria can be felt for up to three weeks, if the experiments with rats are any indication. Mycobacterium antidepressant microbes in soil are also being investigated for improving cognitive function,

Crohn's disease and even rheumatoid arthritis. 2. It boosts brain health Gardening exercises your mind as well as your body. It utilises several our brain functions and includes learning, problem solving and sensory awareness, keeping our minds active. Several studies have shown the benefits of therapeutic gardens for patients with dementia and Alzheimer's. A study, published in the Psychiatry Investigation, said the benefits of horticultural therapy included a reduction of pain, improvement in attention, lessening of stress and a reduction in falls.The charity Thrive uses gardening to help people with a range of mental health problems, including soldiers experiencing post-traumatic stress. Its recent research with early-onset dementia patients showed that, over a year, participants' memory and concentration remained unchanged, but that mood and sociability improved. 3. It incorporates mindfulness You might feel too busy for mindfulness, but research shows it can have a huge impact on your stress levels, helping to stave off anxiety, slash depression risk, boost productivity and ease insomnia. Hilda Burke, psychotherapist, says that gardening is an activity that seems to help a lot of people get into a 'flow' state. This means that you don't notice the time passing, aren't simultaneously thinking over other things, making plans or rehashing the past. As such it helps people both to switch off to other stuff and switch on to the present moment. In other words, to be more mindful.

When asked what their biggest online safety concerns are, respondents cited a wide range of attacks from phishing emails to identity theft to card details being cloned, computers crashing, malware infected ads, PayPal accounts being hacked and also becoming victims of ransomware. Protecting against the theft of personal information was cited by 87 per cent as their biggest online security concern. 69 per cent of respondents also flagged up concerns about phishing emails pretending to be from reputable companies as a significant worry. The loss of banking information concerned 72 per cent of respondents while a further 67 per cent flagged up ransomware as of particular concern. Unsurprisingly though, a large 84 per cent simply don’t want their computers infected by viruses when they go online.

What is WannaCry? WannaCry ransomware has spread across 150 countries and sent many NHS hospitals into meltdown. But what is it? Wanna Decryptor, also known as WannaCry or wcry, is the ransomware program behind the global cyber-attack that affected the NHS. Ransomware is the malicious software used by hackers to block access to a computer system until a ransom is paid. WannaCry locks the data on a computer system and leaves the user with two files: instructions on what to do and the Wanna Decryptor program. Victims are warned that their files will be deleted within days if they do not pay up using Bitcoin, the world’s biggest virtual currency. The WannaCry ransomware affects machines running the Windows operating system. Should you pay the ransom? The National Crime Agency (NCA) have advised victims NOT to pay the ransom. The NCA said in a statement: ‘Victims of fraud should

report it to Action Fraud. We encourage the public not to pay any ransom demand.’ Check Point is among the cybersecurity firms warning that victims should not pay the ransom demanded by WannaCry ransomware. In a blog post earlier this week, the firm said not a single case has been reported of anyone receiving their files back after paying the ransom. Check Point also highlighted the problematic payment and decryption system as well as a false demo of the decryption operation. It has been claimed that the way in which WannaCry has been designed means that most people are unlikely to ever see their files again. Victims are expected to contact the criminals for a key to unlock their files, said security expert Prof Alan Woodward, from the University of Surrey. ‘I very much doubt anyone would return your contact request, bearing in mind the attention that is now on this,’ he told the BBC.

‘If anyone pays this ransom they are more than likely going to send Bitcoin that will sit in an address for ever more. No point.’

Crash driver says: “I need a beer...” Police body cameras captured a chaotic scene at a Cleveland-area convenience store after a man drove his car through the front of the store and barricaded himself in a walk-in cooler. According to local press reports Convenience Mart in Rocky River, Ohio, had just closed in the early hours when a black Dodge Challenger smashed its way through the security bollards at around 40 miles per hour and crashed through the front window. Police arrived to find the car parked in the store with its hazards on, the store clerk trapped beneath debris, and no driver. The clerk told officers the driver got out, told the clerk that he needed a beer, and then wandered into the walk-in cooler. Officers found the driver barricaded inside the cooler. A tense standoff ensued with the agitated, confused man, who dared the cops to shoot him. Police learned he was suffering PTSD-related issues from his military service and job with the Federal Protective Service. “The conversation he was having with the police was deranged, consistent with somebody who was going through a mental crisis,” RRPD Chief Kelly Stillman told WJW. Eventually, an officer was able to use a taser on the man, who put up a fight but was eventually subdued. He faces charges that include DUI and reckless driving.

Thankfully, the store clerk escaped relatively unscathed. His life was saved by a deli case that absorbed the impact of the car and sheltered him from falling debris. “Had the car been over a couple more feet, it could have been serious bodily injury, even possibly death. I mean that’s a four, five thousand pound automobile coming at 30, 40 miles an hour. He was lucky, very lucky,” said Chief Stillman.

Alonso satisfied with ‘amazing’ first practice for Indy 500 Fernando Alonso said he was satisfied with an "amazing" first day of official practice for the Indianapolis 500. The McLaren driver, who is racing at this year's event this Sunday instead of at the Monaco Grand Prix, was 19th on Monday with a 223.025mph average. "Everything went very smoothly," said the 35-year-old Spaniard, who is a two-time F1 world champion."The last halfan-hour we had some issues with the rear suspension and we could not complete the programme." He added: "We had planned to run a little bit in traffic, so we missed that part, but overall it was an amazing day." The two-time F1 champion flew straight from Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, won by Lewis Hamilton, to America to start his attempt to win the Indianapolis 500 on 28 May. More than two million people watched Alonso's first test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway earlier this month, which was basically a webcast of a single car going around a track with four turns. Which only goes to show the level of interest the popular Spaniard has garnered since making the decision to enter into this year’s race. For Alonso, who is missing the Monaco Grand Prix to race at Indy, this is the next step to trying to win the 'triple crown' of motor racing's three blue-riband events. Only one man, Graham Hill, has so far triumphed in Monaco - where Alonso has already won twice - at Indy and in the Le Mans 24 Hours. At Indy, Alonso will have a car with which he can win, branded for his McLaren F1 team, run by the elite Andretti Autosport outfit and powered by a Honda engine - which, unlike the one in Alonso's F1 car, is absolutely competitive. Fifth place went to Javier Lopez, who beat Antonio Morero 6-3, 6-3, leaving Morero in sixth position. Twenty four players began the league in January this year and in a change to previous years, they were split into four groups of 6 players. After playing each other, the top four players in each league went forward to a knockout stage of 16 players, which was finally won by Jordi Torregroso. In all over 400 matches were played during the league season and at the closing ceremony, Pepe Cano, la Nucia councilor for citizen participation presented the trophies to the winners.

Murray unsure of reason for current slump in form Andy Murray will still be the world number 1 during Wimbledon this year, but will have to play exceptionally well if he is to remain at the top come the autumn.
