IN the heart of Rioja, under the blazing sun of a late September afternoon, seven fearless Los Bandidos run­ ners dared to tackle the Cir­ cuito de Carreras Populares Diputación de Almeria 2023. With temperatures still soaring at a sweltering 30 degrees as the clock struck 7.00pm, these intrepid souls embarked on a challenging 7.7­kilometre odyssey, con­ sisting of three gruelling laps, each punctuated by a punishing, precipitous hill that seemed to defy gravity itself. The race’s victor emerged crossing the finish line in 26 minutes and 38 seconds. But the spotlight wasn’t solely

reserved for the men; the first lady to conquer the course did so in an impres­ sive 32 minutes and 11 sec­ onds. A total of 150 triumphant

runners completed their journey with the victors in each group awarded with trophies. Los Bandidos was born in June 2018 when a small

group of runners tackled the scenic 5k Mojacar Paseo. Since then, the crew has grown, diversifying its ranks to include road cyclists, sea swimmers, and determined triathletes. People of all ages, nation­ alities, and paces are wel­ come. Los Bandidos are also known for their cama­ raderie, and most of their sessions end with a well­de­ served post­activity ritual, be it a cosy coffee or a piece of cake.
