SEAFOOD tourism other wise known as pesca tourism is set to increase its turnover this summer as projects to turn tourists into fishermen for a day are growing at a "doubledigit" rate on the coasts. The digital booking plat form, Pescaturismo, which brings together businesses throughout the country dedicated to offering trips on board or other activities with fishermen or shellfish gatherers, has registered a 10 per cent increase in visi tors and turnover in 2023, according to its CEO, Pepe Martínez. Amongst tourists, foreign bookings stand out, the ori gin is generally European, al

though there is also de mand from American clients. Fish tourism consists of enrolling tourists who adapt to the outings of the fishing fleet and marine tourism covers activities, routes or tastings that are more tai lored to the visitor. They in turn offer a source of extra income for the fishermen and in this line of diversification, there are possibilities of financing with European Union funds. The president of the Na tional Federation of Fisher men's Guilds, Basilio Otero, confirmed that this type of tourism can contribute to bringing the sea closer to the people.
