Anna Ellis LOS BANDIDOS celebrated their fifth anniversary on Sunday, June 18, with a beach picnic. Founder member, Kevin Rowe, thanked all Bandidos for their contribution to the amazing growth of the group in just five years. The group started with a small number of runners who met once a week to run the 5k Mojacar Paseo, This soon grew to encourage jog­ gers and walkers, from per­ manent residents to regular visitors and holidaymakers and now meets twice a week (Saturdays and Wednesdays). All ages, na­ tionalities and speeds are welcome! This then expanded fur­ ther to include a road cycling group, a triathlon group and a group of sea swimmers. To celebrate the anniver­ sary, awards were present­ ed to group members who have excelled or shown true Bandido spirit during the year. The main prize, the Gold­ en Helmet was presented to Patricia Mulcahy for the most improvement, in run­ ning, swimming and cy­ cling. She also participated in two triathlons and won her first running trophy at

FIFTH ANNIVERSARY Weekend rescue

THE Maritime Rescue of Almeria rescued a man of Moroccan origin who was found at sea, 9.5 miles from Cape Sacratif. Sources from the gov­ ernmental institute con­ firmed the rescue took place by Helimar 207 on Saturday, June 23, around 4.00pm when they re­ ceived a warning from the Patrol Control of Malaga. He was taken to hospital. The man, who showed symptoms of hypother­ mia, said that there were no other people with him in the sea, where he had been for “several days.”
