The latest addition to Nerja’s roster of elite athletes is none other than Karsten Warholm, the world record holder and Olympic gold medalist from Tokyo. The Norwegian athlete started training camp in the town on Tues day, May 23 and appeared to be get ting his bearings as he posted an In stagram picture exploring the town and enjoying an athletics training session in Nerja. He wrote “Arrived in beautiful Ner ja for training camp,” adding that he was preparing for outdoor season, which starts soon. Warholm’s presence in Nerja signi fies the town’s growing reputation as a training haven for athletes. Plan. Now, however, it’s off to the Andalucian Re gional Government to get the ball rolling on the En vironmental Impact Study, which is an essen

tial step before construc tion can begin on the planned fivestar luxury hotel. Barbero said he be lieves that the comple

tion of this grand beach front hotel will take La Herradura’s tourism to the next level, attracting sustainablyminded visi tors and giving the local economy a boost, includ ing the hospitality and re tail sectors. The hotel, called Daia Slow Beach Hotel, will be a swanky fivestar resort boasting 200 luxurious rooms. It will grace the beauti ful La Herradura coast line, occupying prime land that Hoteles Fuerte acquired more than 20 years ago. The project aims to be completely ecofriendly using sustainable materi als while focusing on en ergy efficiency.

Odd accident Credit: Bomberos de Almuñecar

Issue No. 1977

An unusual parking space

THREE firemen from the Almuñecar fire service were called out to assist colleagues from the Local Police and Civil Protection after a driver had an unfortunate mishap. Somehow or other on Sunday May 21 they managed to park their car in a very unusual position as they drove over the sea wall above Playa Cotobro. Although noone was hurt, the brown coloured car was left hanging vertically onto the beach and had to be winched out by the officers, leaving part of the wall damaged. To date, no explanation has been given for how this particular accident occurred, but it certainly gave both members of the emergency services and bystanders something to talk about as possibly the strangest acci dent that anyone had seen.
