JET 2 MALLORCA AS the tourism sector prepares for an­ other busy season, British airline giant Jet2 has announced more connec­ tions between the UK and Mallorca. The budget airline said it was re­ sponding to increased demand with the announcement on Tuesday, February 7. The move is set to increase air ser­ vices to Mallorca from five English air­ ports; Belfast, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle and two Scottish airports; Edinburgh and Glas­ gow. The airline is also set to increase connections from the UK to Tenerife after noticing increased demand from tourists to the two island destina­ tions. The supplemented services are set to get underway from April this year. The company’s CEO, Steve Heapy, explained the decision with the announcement saying, “The early summer season is proving to be enor­ mously popular in both destinations

Booking bonanza

THE latest data from the hospitality industry in the Balearic Islands found that booking costs were up by 12 per cent last week on figures from the previous week according to research conducted by the TravelX platform. The data released on Monday, February 6, sug­ gests that tourist demand is returning to the islands as accommodation costs soared to figures some 78

per cent higher than aver­ age costs during the same period last year. Mallorca and the Balearic Islands look on track for another record year as bookings are al­ ready 1,150 per cent higher than in 2021. The Balearic Islands are currently the fourth most popular desti­ nations for tourists making reservations, after Andalu­ cia, Catalonia and the Ca­ nary Islands.
