Lucy Chamberlaine TOURISM figures for Malaga Province from 2022 show that an astonishing €17 billion was collected in revenue throughout the year, proving there has been a phenomenal recovery fol lowing the pandemic. Presenting the figures, Tourism Cos ta del Sol President Francisco Salado, hailed the numbers as “magnificent.” The figures break records achieved in 2019, with the number of tourists visiting the province only dropping by 2 per cent between 2019 and 2022, while revenue went up by an aston ishing 18.3 per cent. “In 2022, we set out to make the same amount of money as in 2019, and as of today, we have €2.6 billion more than that,” Salado said. In 2023, figures are expected to rise even further with Salado explaining that there will be greater efforts made to draw visitors from the na tional market as well as planning more than 200 initiatives to attract visitors from abroad.
