CHALLENGE COMPLETED Linda Hall SARAH STREETER and a group of friends from San­ topetar and Taberno ran a triathlon on November 21. They were raising money for Prostate Cancer UK, the Brain Tumour Charity and the British Heart Foundation in the UK, as well as the Car­ diology department at Huer­ cal­Overa hospital. All are close to their hearts for different reasons, explained Sarah, a retired Oncologist from the UK. Their challenge complet­ ed, Sarah recently contacted the Euro Weekly News. “Thankfully there were no JUST a few months apart, the famous Portuguese ac­ tress Maria de Medeiros shot the film Honolulu Baby in Almeria in 2001, and shortly afterwards the Almeria International Short Film Festival was born, which has now become known as the International Film Festival. Now the two paths have crossed with the presenta­ tion of the Almeria, Tierra de Cine award given by the Almeria International Film Festival (FICAL) to the inter­ national star, Maria de Medeiros, who is part of the

injuries!” she told us. “It was a great day, and we raised more than €3,000 for the four charities. “We are still in the pro­ cess of collecting money for the Cardiology department in Huercal­Overa and are likely to be doing so until our self­declared deadline of ‘Three Kings’ Day’,” she said. By then the group will know the final totals for each charity and will present the money they have col­ lected to the cardiology de­ partment in Huercal Overa. “It’ll be a fitting end to a slightly crazy notion,” Sarah declared.
