Chris King AS reported by the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of the Diputa cion de Alicante, a mar ried couple drowned while bathing on Monday, September 19, at a beach in the Alicante municipali ty of Torrevieja. The incident occurred in the La Mata district and reportedly involved a 56yearold man and a 55yearold woman. It is believed they became trapped by a strong cur rent in the sea and were subsequently un able to get out of the water. Several beachgoers no ticed that the couple was in difficulty and attempt ing to get back to the shoreline. Coordination Centre (CI CU) confirmed that emer gency services were im mediately deployed to the beach after receiving a request for medical as sistance. These included
firefighters from the Provincial Consortium and two SAMU and Basic Life Support (SVB) units, complete with a team of medics. They performed ad
vanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) ma noeuvres on the two indi viduals, but without suc cess. Both of them were subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
