Tamsin Brown FROM today, Thursday, September 1, to Sunday, September 4, locals and visi tors in El Morche, Torrox, will be able to enjoy international cuisine with a local touch at the various food trucks that will be on the Paseo Marítimo as part of the firstever edition of ‘Flavours of El Morche’ (Sa bores de El Morche). The event will kick off at 7pm. Many of the dishes avail able will be made with prod ucts grown on local soil, such as avocado, mango and tomato. The councillor for Com merce, Sandra Extremera, highlighted the importance of such an event for tourism, as many tourists come to Torrox not only for the beaches and climate but are also keen to experience what the local beach bars and restaurants have to offer. “It is always important for the Department of Com merce to involve the private sector and tourism so that El Morche continues to grow,”

Athletes pay tribute MORE than 300 athletes gathered on Burriana beach in Nerja on Saturday August 27 to pay homage to Fran cisco Ortega Olalla, popu larly known as ‘Ayo’, who has worked tirelessly to promote local athletics his whole life. The athletes participated in the 28th edition of a race organised each year by the Nerja Athletics Club and the Department of Sports. THE 2022 Vuelta a España will pass through Nerja and Maro on Thursday, September 1. The 12th stage of the route will cover 192.7 km of the Mediterranean coast, from Salobreña to Estepona. The cyclists are expected to travel along the old N340 road and Avenida de Pescia at around 1.15pm, so there will be partial or total road closures from 12.45pm to 2pm. The councillor for Safety and Transport, Francisco Arce, has recommended that wherever possible, residents and visitors “should not use their vehicles during these times and if they need to get to an appointment, they should be prepared for how traffic may be affected.” The councillor for Sports, Daniel Rivas, highlighted the importance of the passage of the Vuelta through Nerja, saying: “The people of Nerja and Maro, especially cycling fans, will once again enjoy this great sporting event, which will promote tourism in the municipality through television and the internet.”
