ANDALUCIA has always been a refuge, an idyllic place for European tourists. However, the pandemic has put a temporary stop to that causing a drop to barely 25 per cent of international travellers. What do the UK, Germany, France or Portugal think of the current situation in Malaga? Readers may be pleased to know that, according to reports, the coast has not lost an iota of interest and tourists will return as soon as the situation goes back to normal. “Malaga is a destination much loved by the British and proof of this is that 45,000 live in the province and millions visit it every year,” says Charmaine Arbouin, UK consul in Andalucia, who emphasises that “at this time public health must prevail above all else and currently the British Foreign Office advises against all non-essential travel to

fortunately, many Germans are giving up travel to their favourite destinations this year due to the pandemic. While last year more than 11 million Germans came to Spain (of which about two million went to Andalucia) this number has significantly decreased this year.” However, Braun emphasises that “Malaga has not lost and will not lose any of its appeals as a result of the pandemic.” He adds, “I am con-
vinced that, when a vaccine is available, Malaga, the Costa del Sol, Andalucia and Spain will once again be the main travel and holiday destination for Germans. “The preventive health measures have not stopped the French tourist in their intention to come to Spain and Malaga continues to be one of the destinations chosen by our compatriots,” says the French consul, Nathalie Hadj, who emphasises that it is “essential” that there be a greater number of direct air routes between French destinations and the Costa
del Sol. Rafael Pérez Peña is the representative of Portugal and also considers the recovery of air routes key. “One sector that will determine, once the pandemic is over, the return to normality, will undoubtedly be transport since without it we would not have tourists. “The Covid is going to punish airlines with more emphasis, therefore we must be very aware of the movements of this sector so that the Costa del Sol continues to be a destination well connected with the world,” emphasises Pérez Peña.

NIBS EXTRA Wild boar RESIDENTS of the Marbesa Urbanisation in Cabopino (Marbella) were upset by the apparently mindless damage done to local gardens, but have now filmed a huge wild boar who even arrives during the day to enjoy rooting around the lawns.
Quick thinking A HOARD of young people filmed a fire which started in a building in Puerto Banus but happily, staff from nearby bars were able to climb onto the roof and tackle the blaze using fire extinguishers before the fire brigade arrived.
Uplifting MALAGA Council has set a budget of €2 million to invest in the installation of lifts in apartment buildings which are more than 35 years old and have at least three floors. Applications for inclusion must be made before the end of November.
Barracks building HAVING been left empty for 18 years, the Barracks building in San Roque needs attention and the local council has been trying for nearly a year to obtain permission to purchase it from the Junta de Andalucia so that it can be restored.
New pavement AS part of its ongoing programme of replacing or repairing badly damaged road and pavement surfaces, Fuengirola Council has invested €10,500 in upgrading Calle Puerto which leads to the marina and the work should be completed within 14 days.

Irish women found safe and well TWO Irish women have been found safe and well after a mountain search on the Costa del Sol. The hikers, aged 30 and 31, got lost while talking in Los Montes de Malaga Natural Park on Sunday, October 4. They managed to contact a friend who called emergency services, and a rescue operation began. After hours of searching, the pair were fortunately found ‘in good health,’ though showing symptoms of exhaustion. According to the Malaga Provincial Police HQ, it was through a notice to 112 that it was learned that the two women had been lost in Los Montes. They said the hikers, who did not know the terrain, became disoriented and alerted a friend, who in turn

Officers in the search

Sign language THERE are basically two types of sign language for speaking with the deaf, one is very complicated to learn quickly as it consists of a huge number of signs, each of which represents a word and when signing takes place as an adjunct to TV, this is the language that is used. There is however a much simpler version which basically consists of the 26 letters of the alphabet which allows quite detailed, if time consuming, exchanges. Not all graffiti is destructive as can be seen from this picture which appeared on a wall in Marbella.

Cement for Food HEIDELBERG CEMENT in Malaga has undertaken new charitable action by making donations to Bancosol, the company who runs Food Banks on the Costa del Sol. Their action was based on the number of days the factory went without accidents or team members taking sick leave which allowed for 75 shopping baskets worth of food to be donated to the charities. A cheque to purchase the food was presented to the president of Bancosol, Diego Vázquez, in a ceremony which was held at the factory’s premises in Malaga. Enrique Álvarez-Cascos, the director of the Malaga factory, stated, “in the current situation of the coronavirus pandemic, initiatives like these are more necessary than ever to help the most disadvantaged families and, therefore, vulnerable to the socioeconomic effects of Covid-19.”
One committed lady THERE are numerous individuals who dedicate themselves to rescuing animals and spend all of their time, love and money in doing what they can to look after and rehome as many abandoned animals as they can. One of these is Pat’s Rescue Retreat based in Alora which is run by Pat Waterhouse who is in her 70’s and normally has up to 75 dogs and puppies in her care and is always in need of funds and support so that she can continue her good work. Fundraising has been difficult with the lockdown and many events have had to be postponed but the charity shop in Alhaurin El Grande reopened in June and is always looking for items to sell. Three bars in Duquesa port, the Loch In, Kelly’s Bar and the Rose and Thistle have collection tins for Pat and the Rose and Thistle does from time to time nominate Pat’s Rescue Retreat to receive donations from its weekly quiz nights. THE Gibraltar Dyslexia Support Group has launched ‘Dyslexia Creates’ as the theme for Dyslexia Awareness Week 2020 which runs from October 5 until October 11 with World Dyslexia Day taking place on October 8. It has long been known that dyslexia can actually create many potential strengths and positive tendencies
from actors through to designers and inventors as dyslexia and creativity go hand in hand. With an estimated 30 per cent plus of entrepreneurs being dyslexic these strengths are more important than ever. With around a million young people in education who are dyslexic there is a potential waste of talent.
EVERY Thursday a mobile Community Cleaning Point for domestic waste is installed in a different site around Fuengirola. Retired doctors offer help MORE than 2,000 retired doctors have offered to return to work to help out in the face of the health crisis in Spain. The country is experiencing a shortage of
health personnel and last week it was revealed the national health service needs some 88,000 doctors, nurses and orderlies to cope with the coronavirus pandemic.
And, according to Antena 3, the situation has been made all the more critical as many health professionals are forced to look for work abroad ‘in search of decent contracts.’ In light of the shortage several autonomous communities across Spain are experiencing, 2,000 doctors have offered their ‘valuable experience.’ Dr Carlos Gálvez, spokesman for Retired Doctors of Sevilla, said “we, retired doctors, have done everything, we have experience that I think is valuable.”

Discount Computers SPANISH utility company, Endesa, has begun delivering 5,000 computers and internet connection cards to ‘vulnerable’ students across 60 towns and districts. The initiative aims to ‘protect against the digital divide’ caused by the covid pandemic. In addition, both students and teachers will receive training in digital skills. The distribution of computers and internet connections will begin in Ceuta and extend to Melilla, Andalucia, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Castilla y Leon, Aragon, Galicia and Extremadura in the coming weeks. In total, 5,000 students from around 500 public schools will benefit, while approximately 800 teachers will receive training. This is the second phase of Endesa’s Public Responsibility Plan. The first phase in March saw the company invest €12 million in medical supplies to support the entities fighting the Covid pandemic at that time.

Hotelier Busted A HOTEL manager hosted a 200-person strong funeral party and has been fined a staggering £10,000 as a result of breachi n g t h e U K ’s c o r o n a v i r u s l o c k d o w n re strictions. Furthermore, his hotel, Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel in Solihull, West Midlands, has been restricted from hosting any further public gatherings or holiday events until January 2021. Police became aware of the issue after receiving nine separate complains from local residents. The complaints were mainly about loud music coming from the hotel and their arrival resulted in the guests being dispersed by 9pm. Sent Back THE British government is speeding up its asylum seeker processing to clear up a backlog of deportations back to Spain. The British government loses its right at the end of this year to expel immigrants to the member country through which they enter the European Union after Brexit. The British government has launched a strategy of deportation on charter flights, aimed at those who crossed the English Channel, to countries such as France, Germany or Spain, known as ‘Operation Sillath.’ It is doing so months before leaving the European Union when the country will be left out of this legal framework.
NEXT year will mark the transition of more toll roads becoming free in Spain. The plan not to extend the concessions on the toll roads once their signed contract periods have concluded still remains in force. This was confirmed recently by the minister of Transport of Mobility and Urban Agenda, José Luis Ábalos. EIGHT people are missing in France after torrential rainfall hit southern France as a result of Storm Alex. Meteo France recorded a total of 17.7 inches of rain within a 24-hour period this week. Since the storm passed over the south-eastern region of France on Saturday at least eight people have been recorded as missing. More rainfall occurred this week than in 2015 when intense weather and floods resulted in the death of 20 people in Cannes on the French Riviera. A Red Alert had also been issued on Friday by the department of Alpes-Maritimes for the area which borders Italy. Storm Alex caused heavy winds reaching more than 112 miles per hour in Brittany.

EXPERTS have revealed that the antibody drug that has been used for the treatment of President Donald Trump in the US is already in use in UK hospitals. President Trump has been given a treatment that includes an artificial
antibody. The Oxford University’s national Recovery trial team member, Professor Peter Horby, has stated that the drug is promising and potent and confirmed that three hospitals in the north of England began using the drug last week.
Horby also confirmed that the drug is intended to be further rolled out to an additional 30-40 hospitals in the UK in the near future. The antibody treatment works by binding together the proteins on the surface of the virus which results in the virus being
Canoe Rescue A MIGRANT has been rescued from the Alboran Sea after having been adrift in a kayak for 10 days. Ferry ‘Denia Ciutat Creativa’ from the Balearia ferry company saved the man who had left the coast of Cuenta in a canoe. A spokesperson for the rescue services has said that the migrant was
lucky to have been spotted by a patrol plane that was flying on a route between Melilla and Almeria. Another migrant boat was also recued containing 31 people 27 miles off the coast of Almeria. Over the past week, migrant centres in the area have reopened to help with the influx of migrants crossing to Spain.
THE UK government is set to examine the practicalities of Boris Johnson’s bridge across the Irish Sea from Northern Ireland to Scotland. The feasibility study will take place as part of a national review of transport within the UK. No 10 released information on Saturday October 3 that the review will examine the need, budget and practicality of such an endeavour. Many critics of the plan have already hit out at the government saying that is a waste of public finances and an impractical project. Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has often touted the idea of a fixed bridge between the two parts of the UK and it was further confirmed earlier this year that the UK government was examining it as a realistic option.

Mane the Saint Healthcare demands Sadio Mane.
A BRAND-NEW documentary about the life of Sadio Mane tells many tales of the Liverpool striker’s life. The documentary covers Mane’s life and includes a variety of interviews with col-

Manhunt A BRITISH man from Southport, Merseyside, has been stabbed to death in Cuidad Quesada near Alicante on the Costa Brava. The man, who has not been named, was discovered fatally wounded early on Thursday morning with multiple stab wounds to the neck. It is understood that a fight broke out at a house party and the incident occurred shortly after. A police manhunt is now being undertaken and it is understood that the attacker is also British. After he was stabbed, the victim stumbled out of the house onto the street and subsequently collapsed and died.

Black Widow THE Black Widow of Alicante, Conchi Martin, has been found guilty by a jury of her peers for the murder of her former husband. Martin stabbed her husband, José Luis S G, a 69-year-old retiree, to death in August 21, 2018. She stabbed him a total of 19 times in a parking lot on Alicante’s Calle Sol Naciente de la Albufereta. The jury, composed of four men and five women, arrived at the verdict in the early hours of Saturday morning, October 3, after the conclusion of the five-day trial. Martin’s co-conspirator in the crime, Francisco Pérez, was also found guilty.
Rule Breakers TWO Manchester based women have been fined £1,000 for their refusal to selfisolate for the required time after returning from a weekend break to Spain. It has been confirmed by police that one of the women lied to her employer and immediately returned to work after the pair’s short jaunt to Spain. The, as yet, unnamed women have been used to make an example of by local police due to their reckless disregard for self-isolation rules. Officer PS Jackson of GMP Tameside North and East stated on social media, “Another two £1,000 fines issued for breaching quarantine regulations after returning from Spain. “Two females from the Ashton area decided that the rules did not apply to them and after a long weekend away, they refused to quarantine.”
Five Injured FIVE National Police officers have been injured in Estepona while arresting two Brits who were on the run for a shooting at the Benavista Shopping Centre, in the El Saladillo urbanisation. The officers were in pursuit of the pair in the El Paraíso area of Estepona on the Costa del Sol. According to police the two British men, aged 27 and 30, were arrested for their participation in a fight which saw shots fired. No one was injured during the shooting. After the incident the pair fled the scene,
however, were apprehended after being caught on a vehicle detection camera system set up to find them. Upon being discovered, police tried to stop the culprits by setting up a road blockade however, instead of stopping, the suspects reversed at speed, the wrong way down the road and collided with a stationary police car attempting to block their escape. This collision resulted in the five officers being injured. The pair have been arrested and a full investigation is ongoing.

Lockdown Looms London taking first steps.
IT appears that London is taking its first steps in the direction of a local lockdown similar to those currently being experienced in other regions of the UK. Tower Hamlets’ borough
mayor, John Biggs, has published an open letter calling on the public not to visit other households “unless absolutely necessary.” Every area within the capital has now been identified as an ‘area of concern’ by the UK government. The advice comes as Tower Hamlets sees the rate of cases increase with Biggs labelling the situation a “matter of life and death.” In his open letter he wrote, “Despite a fall over the summer, we are seeing cases of Covid-19 rise and we need to accept that the situation is once again worsening.” Nationwide, however, the UK surge appears to be waning with last week experiencing 8,400 new cases of Covid-19 every day, according to the Office for National Statistics, which is down 12 per cent on the 9,600 daily cases recorded in the previous week.
TOUR operator TUI has restarted flights from Germany to the Canary Islands with plans for selective Covid-19 testing of travellers. The German travel company has initially scheduled seven weekly flights to Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, according to the Canary Island government. Speaking on Thursday October 1 following a videoconference meeting with TUI group CEO Sebastian Ebel, regional President Angel Victor Torres described the decision to set up safe travel corridors to the Canaries at this time as “very good news.” Tourism minister Yaiza Castilla explained that the Canary administration has reached an agreement with TUI on voluntary selective Covid-19 testing for tourists taking winter holidays with the firm in accordance with the levels of infection in their destinations of origin.

Trapped inside A BOY, three, spent hours locked in a school bus without anyone noticing he was missing. The child reportedly fell asleep and didn’t get off at a bus stop in Oleiros, in A Coruña. Neither the bus escort nor the driver noticed that the young boy was still on board. It was only when the school bus was parked up at a nearby town hall four hours later that the child was discovered by another driver, who took the boy to Lui Seoane Primary School where he is a pupil. The Territorial Chief of Education is investigating what happened, while the school claims the child ‘did not enter school grounds so it was considered that the family did not send him.’ According to Spanish press reports, residents have expressed their ‘indignation and disbelief’ about the incident, with one quoted as saying “we all have failures, but here there are no excuses, he is a child.”

Fishing Club raises funds THE Benalmadena Fishing Club (CD Pesca Benalmadena) is known throughout the municipality for its work to raise funds for children in the town who have special needs due to social exclusion and poverty. Its latest activity has seen members collecting money at different bars and restaurants throughout the town which has allowed it to raise enough money to purchase 600 children’s face masks to give to local social services. They in turn will arrange for the masks to be given to children most in need now that school is back, although due to their special design, it is possible that those children who are

Tree huggers BENALMADENA Council is in the process of completing its tree plan which Mayor Victor Navas believes will help
to turn the town into a greener oasis on the Costa del Sol and the first part of the programme is to budget €35,000 for the future Ibn al-Baytar park. Some 250 trees will be planted as the structure of the park unfolds and there will be a mixture of different trees chosen for their indigenous nature as well as ease of adaptation to local soil, all of which will enhance the Mediterranean feel and also give the flavour of a typical Casablanca park. Councillor for Parks and Gardens, Joaquín Villazón, confirmed that the trees will be planted in a manner which would allow visitors to follow comfortable trails which would give plenty of shade whilst enhancing the landscape and enriching local diversity.

Lincolnshire Wildlife Park in the UK was forced to move the ‘rude’ birds to an ‘offshore’ enclosure and out of earshot of patrons. A group of African Grey parrots at the zoo were removed after repeating obscene language at visitors. Just like the cheap battery-powered toys that kids have for presents, the ‘feathered foul-mouthed flock of Parakeets’ were so rude that they even had the keepers red-faced! Some patrons thought it was hilarious, but many others didn’t, especially some parents who couldn’t believe their ears after holding their kids to ‘look at the pretty birds,’ only to receive a barrage of four-letter words from the badly-behaved birds!

Human Guinea Pigs RESEARCHERS are to start infecting trial subjects with Covid-19 to test a vaccine and there are over 2,000 volunteers that have signed up for the experiment. Many British people are volunteering to become part of the abolishment of the disease through a vaccine. The volunteers will be vaccinated with the potential preventative and will be later introduced to the Covid-19 disease to see if the vaccine is successful. The human trials will be scheduled to start in January 2021 and the volunteers will be experimented on in Whitechapel, east London in a very secure address.

SPAIN’S Room Mate hotel chain is testing a new scheme that will see guests tested for Covid19 on arrival. The chain of boutique hotels will be the first hotel chain to offer testing as part of the guest experience. Hotel guests will be either tested on arrival to the hotel or can opt to take an antigen test at one of 100 health clinics across Spain that are run by Quirón, who are partners with Room Mate in this scheme. An app will then be used to track any symptoms that the guest may experience during their stay with long stay guests and all hotel staff being tested routinely every three days. The antigen test that is being used by the chain will see results given in just 15 minutes which is exceptionally short in comparison to the 48 hours that it takes to receive results from the UK government’s PCR tests. The testing programme for the chain will initially be launched in four hotels across Spain and then, if

AL FRESCO LIVING Let’s face it, who wants to deal with the cold, dark clouds and rain. The Meteorological Office (MET) in the UK estimates that it rains at least 156 days per year. Spain on the other hand has a climate that sees on average a paltry 55 days of rain. Much of that occurs in intense periods and other than that it’s sun, sun, SUN! This temperate climate means that living in Spain affords you the excellent opportunities for year-round outdoor dining on the terrace while soaking up the rays and/or enjoying a day at the beach. Employees in Spain typically receive approximately 41 days of annual leave per years whereas in the UK you only receive a measly 28. With those extra days off you are able to fully experience the rich and vibrant culture of Spain that is evident around every corner you turn. Furthermore, the UK regularly ranks as one of the worst places to live in Europe. Multiple studies over the last decade have placed the UK at the bottom of the list and the Expat Insider Report, 2019, revealed the same results. With Spain on your doorstep and the option to integrate yourself into this vibrant culture still readily available until December 31, 2020, it is a wonder that, despite the current global situation, that Brits aren’t flocking here. Throughout the pandemic, Brits in Spain have hailed the response of the Spanish government, police and army for their handling of the global pandemic. Although the draconian measures were tough on everyone, the clarity and immediate action by the authorities meant that the population felt safe and knew what was expected of them. Since the lockdown was lifted, Brits who have travelled despite quarantine restrictions in the UK have applauded the Spanish response with numerous tourists taking to social media to express how much safer they feel in Spain during this crisis than they do in the UK. Furthermore, if you get your skates on and move prior to the end of this year (December 31) you will still be fully covered under the UK’s Withdrawal Agreement with the EU, which means you can ensure you retain permanent residency in Spain. So, the question really is less about why you should move to Spain but instead why aren’t you moving to Spain? With a glorious friendly culture in a warm and comfortable climate, where you can enjoy sandy beaches, a cocktail in hand or walk your dog while enjoying the range of nature on your doorstep … why are you not already here?

H&M culls stores WITH 5,000 stores in many countries worldwide, Swedish fashion retailer H&M has become the second largest brand of its type in the world, but it like so many other stores, has seen high street sales suffer due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It has therefore announced that it will be closing at least 250 shops during 2021 as it expects online shopping to continue to grow and although sales are beginning to recover, they are still 5 per cent down when comparing last month and September 2019.

Record employment results SEPTEMBER was a record month in Spain for the number of new jobs created which when coupled with a further fall in unemployment is per haps surprising although there are still large numbers of people on fur lough or working shorter hours. Overall, however it has to be posi tive news that the State Public Em ployment Service reported the num ber of unemployed fell by slightly more than 26,000 (0.7 per cent) and the number of new jobs created broke 84,000. In ‘normal years,’ September is considered a bad month for Spanish
workers as the main tourism season comes to an end and many people on short term contracts who are as sociated with the hospitality indus try find themselves unemployed. That was then and this is now! The lockdown and pandemic have com pletely changed the rules and many of those in hospitality found that their season ended much earlier and they entered the public system in previous months. Now to record 84,000 new jobs suggests that other areas of the economy are beginning to recover and either creating new work or

bringing employees back to their old jobs from which they had been placed on furlough. According to Expansion this drop in the number of unemployed in September has never been so large since records began in 1996 and since 2008, unemployment in Sep tember has gone up rather than down. This is part of an ongoing drop in unemployment over the past three months, but it must be remembered that there are still more than 3,750,00 on the unemployed list, many of them young people.

You will need Form EX23, which you can download from the internet and Form 790 code 12 on which you pay the small fee and one identification card size photo. If you do not get the TIE, at some point next year you will be considered a nonresident of Spain.

JUST a year since regulators refused to approve a merg er between Asda and Sains bury’s, American owners Walmart have announced that they have sold the su permarket chain for £6.8 billion (€7.5 billion) to a British consortium. On the face of things, the purchase of Asda by Wal mart 21 years ago wasn’t a great investment as they are making just £100 mil lion (€110 million) profit from the sale but they are keeping some shares and will have a single seat on the board. Triumphant purchasers are petrol billionaires Mohsin and Zuber Issa who own the Lancashire based EG Group working with
London private equity firm TDR Capital who between them look to see the super market return to growth and have promised to keep prices low whilst investing more than £1 billion (€1.1 billion) over the next three years. Initially at least, there are unlikely to be many major changes as headquarters will remain in Leeds and current CEO Roger Burnley has received a vote of confi dence and will be main tained in his role. According to YouGov pollsters, Asda is now the seventh most popular su permarket in the United Kingdom and has a long way to go to beat leaders Aldi, M&S Food and Lidl.

Odds on takeover BRITISH betting firm, William Hill, fronted on TV by such stars as Ray Winstone is likely to be taken over by Caesars Entertainment, the US compa ny which owns Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for £2.9 billion (€3.2 billion) subject to share holder agreement. What attracts the American company is that William Hill USA (in which Caesars holds a 20 per cent stake) has 170 bet ting shops scattered across the USA. The board of William Hill, which is unlikely to open more 100 betting shops in the UK, sees this as an opportunity to gain value for shareholders in what may be a stagnant mar ket.

Public debt is rising
FINANCE MINISTER MONTERO: Called for a “fiscally responsible” approach. ACCORDING to figures released by the Bank of Spain, the public debt soared to €1.29 trillion in the second quarter of 2020 which is its highest level for 20 years, due to its efforts to cope with the results of the pandemic. Although this is a huge amount, it compares favourably with the United Kingdom debt which reached £2 trillion (€2.2 trillion) at the end of June and like Spain still continues to increase on a monthly basis. Normal rules no longer apply and whilst the European Union set targets for all member states requiring that public debt should be no higher than 60 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP),
this is simply unrealistic at the present time. The reality is that whilst it stood at 99 per cent in the first quarter, it rose to 110 per cent as Spain was in lockdown for much of the second quarter and was trying to assist those in financial need whilst reeling from the loss of important tourist and export business. Taking a pragmatic approach, the government has decided (like Britain and some other countries) to suspend the budget and try to cope with matters as they occur whilst maintaining what Finance Minister, María Jesús Montero called a “fiscally responsible” ap proach when announcing this at a press conference. One piece of good news is that analysts forecast that GDP which had fallen dramatically in the first

LEAPY LEE SAYS IT OTHERS THINK IT JUST recently a 16-year-old young hoodlum became inv olv e d i n a c a r c h a s e wi th a number of police vehicles. Attempting to swerve around a police road block his car struck a young officer who was dragged along before being thrown off and sustaining multiple injuries, including a fractured leg. The car was finally brought to a halt and the driver arrested. The charges were, stealing a car, failing to stop; possession of cannabis; failing to provide a blood sample; causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without a licence or insurance. The officer was off work for five weeks and also suffered a psychological impact that required mental treatment and counselling. At his trial the judge’s ruling on this young toe rag was a piddling, noncustodial 12 month rehabilitation order, and a fine of £100! You really couldn’t make it up. What this basically means is that this waste of space was back with his mates that evening, his ‘street cred’ on a high, a

New generation of youngsters joint in his mouth and his eye on whatever other criminal endeavours he could turn his hand to. The message taken back to his fellow young cronies? As long as you’re under 18, you can get away with just about anything. Some of these judges are not fit to serve up slop in a prison kitchen, leave alone serve up justice on the bench. The way to prevent young thugs like this re-offending is to bang ‘em up in a serious boot camp. Control their every waking and sleeping moment with the strictest regulations and make them never want to be put back inside again. But it won’t happen will it? The ‘wokes’ and liberal lefties of our society have somehow managed to take control of our rules and regulations and appear to have completely dispensed with common sense. Under the guise of ‘sex education’ they have allowed live sexual acts to take place in our classrooms. Tried to normalise grown men in dresses sharing locker rooms with young girls and made parents afraid to chastise or discipline their own children for
fear they will be reported for some form of child abuse. Unless it agrees with their own warped doctrine, they have also managed to virtually destroy freedom of speech and influence our children into regarding any decision by the authorities as an infringement of their ‘uman rights. The result of all this dangerous nonsense, is new generations of youngsters with, no regard whatsoever for law and order, an utterly self-centered attitude of entitlement, and the belief that despite a history of utter failure, socialism is the answer to everything. To the left of course it all makes perfect sense; the more dependent the people are on the state the more they can be controlled. Their ultimate ambition is communism and the brainwashed young their prime targets. By the time our youngsters realise they have been duped it will all be too late. CRASH SPANISH police have launched a ‘murder-suicide’ probe after a British husband was killed in a head-on collision witrh a lorry. The body of his wife ‘who had died days earlier’ was found in the wreckage. Police suspect the 38-year-old man may have intended to end his own life after murdering his COLLISION: Now a murder probe. French wife, 41, in their mobile home, following a row. The fatal crash occurred on the A-381 motorway near the town of Los Barrios close to Gibraltar. The Brit, who has not been named, died instantly and was said to have been driving on the wrong side of the motorway before the smash. Simple tips THE basic principles of study remain as effective today as they have ever been and here are three simple tips: 1. Consistency - Set a study schedule and stick to it. No matter what the topic, regularly turning your attention to what you need to know will form a habit and reduce the burden on you to be ‘motivated.’ Depending on the complexity of the topic and the tasks you have to complete, studies show that habits can be formed in three to eight weeks so starting early is a good idea but more than anything else, it’s a matter of consistently returning to what you want to study. 2. Repetition - Not to be confused with being consistent, repetition refers to performing the same tasks at least three times in order to speed up retention and recollection. This means that you should always have a pen/pencil and pad with you when you’re reading so that you can read, highlight and translate what you’re reading into your own voice for complete understanding. 3. Care - This may be the most important and yet the most basic and undervalued aspect of study. The school is purpose built and consists of four buildings: Infants and Primary, Secondary, Cafeteria and Games Room. The college is well equipped, complete with three Science laboratories, three Information Technology suites, Library and Sixth Form research area, drama room, and Art studios. Our Early Years education starts from nursery (age 1-2), Pre-nursery (age 2), Nursery (age 3) and Reception (age 4). Children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum. Saying goodbye on the first day NO matter how much you prepare, your pre-schooler will still be full of nerves on their first day. Here’s how to make drop-off a lit-
tle easier for you both. Create a goodbye ritual. Having a goodbye routine provides comfort and familiarity, so your child
knows what’s to come. This could be anything you and your child decide on, such as a special hug or handshake followed by a ‘See you later, alligator!’ Once you’ve said your goodbyes, it’s best to skedaddle so that your child doesn’t become preoccupied by your presence. Don’t sneak away. It might be tempting to bolt from the room, but your little one will feel more afraid if you suddenly disappear. “Mums should never be ripped away abruptly from their child,” says Fran Walfish, PsyD, child and family psychotherapist and the author of The Self-Aware Parent. “The best way to handle the separation process is to begin by Mummy going to school with her child and sitting next to her. “She should not interact

with her in games and toys, but rather be there as a safety net.” Bring a comforting object. Have your child bring a little reminder of home to ease the separation anxiety. of security to kids in an unfamiliar environment. Never make comparisons. Don’t chastise your toddler, honouring your child’s process is the best way to make the transition to pre-school as smooth as possible, all children react and cope differently. Remind them that you came back. When you pick them up
at the end of the day, reinforce the idea that you came back, just like you said you would. Consider a reward system. Giving your child their own calendar is a great idea. If they went to class without putting up a fuss, they receive a smiley face on the calendar (otherwise, a sad face). On Friday, if they had five smiley faces, it’s treat time!

Which style do you prefer? HE learning styles of students depend on several factors, including their environment and other cognitive and emotional factors. Because every student is different, it’s a good idea for teachers to develop classroom strategies that incorporate different learning styles for different types of learners. It is important as a parent to be aware of this to help your child study at home. The VARK model helps teachers do this and it can help you too. It is an acronym that refers to the four learning styles: visual, auditory, reading/writing preference, and kinesthetic. Visual Process information using graphs and charts Need images to explain concepts and ideas Prefer graphic elements over words Auditory Learn best with spoken information Prefer lectures and discussions Process information by talking things through Read/Write Prefer to receive written words Enjoy reading and writing assignments

THERE are only 24 hours in a day, and usually about a third of that is spent sleeping. So, is it possible to make use of this time and prepare for an exam? In other words, is sleep learning possible? The answer is yes and no, depending on what we mean by ‘learning.’ Absorbing complex information or picking up a new skill from scratch by, say, listening to an audio recording during sleep is almost certainly impossible. But research shows that the sleeping brain is far from idle and that some

Early Start FLU VACCINE: Has begun earlier this year due to Covid-19. SPAIN started rolling out its early flu vaccination campaign this week ‘amid second wave of Covid-19 infections.’ The most vulnerable and ‘at risk’ will be prioritised across the country. The campaign normally begins in November, but health bosses say an early start will be ‘key in an autumn-winter marked by the second wave of Covid-19 infections.’ Several autonomous communities, such as the Valencia Community, Castilla y León, Galicia and Navarra are among the first to begin to vaccinate their ‘most at risk.’ Minister of Health, Ana Barceló, stressed that ·”this year it is especially important that risk groups get vaccinated against the flu” due to Covid-19, and said the goal is to vaccinate 75 per cent of those over 65 years along with health personnel and 60 per cent of the rest of those at risk. In addition, a vaccination strategy will be carried out aimed at residents and staff at nursing homes and day centres, “so that they are vaccinated, preferably, during the first week of the campaign.”

Things aren’t always as they seem MARBELLA MOMENTS BY NICOLE KING I HAVE lived in Spain for some 40 years now and have known about the traditional Andalucian ‘sopa de ajo blanco’ ie, white garlic soup, during all that time. You, like I, may have been put off just by the name. A cold white soup made of garlic sounds like a social threat on humanity and perhaps cause of a system overload, even if partial to it. This is why I was so particularly surprised to learn that the recipe requires but one half clove of garlic and is basically made out of almonds, making this a particularly healthy recipe. Various studies show that by replacing 20 per cent of your daily protein intake with almonds reduces wrinkles considerably, helps your heart function and cholesterol levels, rich in magnesium, potassium and
Vitamin E, promoting the flow of nutrients and oxygen in the bloodstream as well as calcium for our bones. I just had to share this revelation with someone! Not only that, whilst learning how to make it another eye-opener: to ensure that the garlic doesn’t repeat on you in any way, there’s a simple trick: simply remove ‘the heart’ of the garlic before cooking. The ingredients are also affordable and readily available. Apart from the almonds you will need bread, (pan de pueblo style - the thick soft country-bread type), a little virgin extra olive oil, a little vinegar, water, salt and as I mentioned previously, just one half clove of garlic. I’m finding all this out as for the past couple of weeks I’ve been popping into La Rosticcería Marbella to catch up with renowned local chef Aitor Peruruena to record him making typical Spanish dishes for Marbella Now TV on RTV Marbella. Hopefully by showing how easy it is to use local produce and whip up great traditional dishes, even for one, will encourage us to be more
adventurous in Spanish restaurants and exploratory in the kitchen. Another nice twist is that this is a totally vegan recipe making it ideal for my family and for many others of you out there and it takes but moments to make and can be made just for one or to impress at a dinner party. Ideally the ingredients should be mixed and soaked overnight to allow the flavours to mélange but this is not essential if you want to make it on the spot. Using a couple of cubes of ice and part water when blending will help speed up the chilling process for immediate serving. The next step is to simply blend the mixture on high speed, add a final drizzle of virgin extra olive oil before a final 10 second mix and either chill, or serve. Grapes or slices of melon can be added if you really want to go all out or simply decorate with a fresh sprig of basil. A truly delicious and nutritious recipe that I have avoided for 40 years; which is why I just had to share this with you to let you know that once again, things are not always as they seem.

Stats have WHO puzzled THE World Health Organisation admitted that it does not know why Spain has Europe’s highest incidence of Covid-19. Maria Neira, director of the WHO’s Public Health and Environment department, commented during the online forum, Nueva Economia, that Spain currently has stricter measures regarding face masks than other countries in a better Covid-19 situation. Spanish-born Neira also drew attention to the habits of Spanish society, maintaining that neither inter-family transmission nor the habits of the young explained the spiralling number of cases. “It’s true that there is a link between the young and partying,” she was quoted as saying in El Pais. “But that doesn’t justify the country’s present situation as young people also go to parties in Italy, in France and even Switzerland,” the WHO representative pointed out, as she stressed the importance of raising awareness in the Spanish and especially amongst the young. Neira also emphasised the need to analyse circumstances in the country’s Primary Care centres and the way that screening is carried out, so that flaws could be detected and corrected.

DEAR Euro Weekly News, I have come to a quandary. I read the article last week about the express eviction team who are chasing away squatters. Sure, if I had somebody illegally living in or even destroying my house, I would want them out. I would really hope that the police or courts would be able to sort that. Should we really have to call ‘the heavies’ in? My husband thinks it is a brilliant idea and says he would be in to help them remove people by ‘any means neccessary’ if he was 20 years younger. But should we fight crime with violence? Or the threat of? I may be wrong, maybe the only thing these criminal squatters will listen to is a bunch of burly blokes knocking their heads together. SOCIAL media messaging giant Twitter has come under criticism and accusations of double standards after tweeting that ‘tweets that wish or hope for death, serious bodily harm or fatal disease against *anyone* are not allowed and will need to be removed.’ This followed the announcement of US President and a barrage of both abusive and celebratory messages revelling in the fact he had been hospitalised. Twitter’s warning has been heavily criticised by users who have themselves faced both death threats and abuse over their Twitter feed. The platform has long been accused of falling short of protecting users from messages of hate, whether they be shared both publicly and privately. Users highlighted the constant attacks and comments directed toward minority groups, with some tweeting their personal stories showing how Twitter refused to take action even after reports were made. However, the platform has taken some action against those they believe violated guidelines. Kanye West was banned because he called a Forbes editor a “white supremacist,” and tweeted the man’s phone number. Grime star Wiley has been permanently suspended from Twitter, five days after he used the site to publish antisemitism and conspiracy theories. Though Twitter has been praised for these actions, users still push for more protection. Particularly for minority races, LGBTQ people, women and religions. A spokesperson for the company is quoted as saying, “At Twitter, our singular goal is to improve the health of the public conversation, including ensuring the safety of people who use our service. Abuse and harassment have no place on Twitter and we have policies in place - which apply to everyone, everywhere - that address abuse and harassment and hateful conduct. “If we identify accounts that violate these rules, we will take enforcement action.”

To look at the other problem facing the world is overpopulation one has only to look at the figures of population expansion since the 1700s to see that clearly the current increase is not sustainable, and governments in the UK are giving endless child allowance to families to have more children they would otherwise not afford. Example, a mother in the UK recently gave birth to her 23rd child! Just do the maths and see the cost on resources as they become adults. I think what is required is a guide of ‘stop at two to replace you’ (not going to be popular with most religions or some cults me thinks). However, there I am, I would welcome your thoughts. One rule Dear Euro Weekly, New restrictions? They have got to be mad? Yes, lockdown Madrid, but do it properly. I saw news of people scarpering from Madrid to hit the Costa del Sol again at the weekend. No! these chancers should receive a massive fine. What if they are carriers and are bringing the virus back to us? How utterly selfish! Saying that, I am still amazed that the local Spanish bars and restaurants near my house are packed with loud, non-mask wearing patrons until late into the night. PACKED! No social distancing, adults and children. On the other hand, I am hearing of all the British cafes and restaurants shutting down or being busted for breaking a new rule. WITH the UK preparing for lockdown 2.0, some supermarkets are rationing items - including toilet rolls and disinfectant products - to prevent panic buying. So, here we go again! Theoretically, everyone wants to support the government’s tough restrictions, given how difficult this situation is. But they make it so very hard, particularly when they break their own rules with impunity. (Yes, I’m looking at you, Dominic!) When the rule maker can’t be bothered to follow his own rules why on earth should he expect anyone else to do so? (Although I think selfcentred individuals who regard not social distancing and not wearing masks a ‘personal’ choice have their part to play too.) And then there’s the ‘world-beating’ shambles of the government’s NHS Covid-19 app for England and Wales. Both Scotland and Northern Ireland have already introduced their own individual contact tracing apps. Six months into this and the UK still doesn’t have a unified test result system. This government has undoubtedly made numerous errors. But can you think of anyone near the levers of power with the ability to do things better? Looking at the last few

Restriction Increase IRELAND is moving up to level 3 to avoid another lockdown - despite calls from the country’s health chiefs. Prime Minister Micheál Martin has announced that Ireland would move from level 2 of its restrictions to level 3, with new measures including a ban on all indoor restaurant dining. The move will last at least three weeks. It comes despite the country’s National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) calling for the country to move to level 5 and enter a second national lockdown. Mr Martin said: “Businesses are beginning to recover and vital public health services are still backlogged. “Severe restrictions now would have a very damaging impact which those services and businesses may not be able to recover from them. “We have decided, at this stage, not to move to a more comprehensive lockdown.” Ireland will stay at level 3 until October 27, meaning social and family gatherings and organised indoor gatherings will be banned, except for funerals and weddings. People are asked to stay within their county and work from home unless it is absolutely unavoidable, while schools and other education establishments should remain open. Ireland has recorded 1,810 deaths among 38,549 people who have caught Covid-19, according to Johns Hopkins University, which is tracking the pandemic.

Means Go! TESCO in the UK is launching a traffic light system, so customers know when they are safe to enter the store as part of their ever increasing Covid-19 restrictions. Tesco are not the only supermarket to be considering the move with some such as Aldi already in the process of installing the system. As government restrictions have limited the number of customers who can be present in the retailer’s venue at any one time, all supermarkets are having to act fast to stay current with the ever-changing regulations. Tesco boss, Jason Tarry, said: “Over the coming weeks, you will also start to see a simple ‘traffic lights’ system at the entrances of some of our larger stores, to help us manage the flow in and out.”

What truly stands out for me MIKE SENKER IN MY OPINION Views of a Grumpy Old Man IT’S no secret that I detest Donald Trump but not because he’s a Republican. It’s the actual person I detest because he is a liar, a racist and a misogynist. I watched him and Biden ‘debate’ recently and it seemed to me Trump had decided as he was unable to discuss any point that the moderator asked, he would disrupt proceedings by heckling, interrupting, lying and changing the subject. It’s hard to know where to start. How is it that from 600 millionish people in the USA the best they have is two old farts who couldn’t hire a car from Hertz as they are too old, but can run the country? I don’t actually think Biden would make a good POTUS either but at least he appears the more honest one. Whenever I write about Trump it’s amazing that I get emails telling me how great he is and saying yeah we know all the bad things he is, but look at all the good he’s doing. I do look and, to be honest, I can’t agree with you. If you add up all the good against the bad,
the bad wins every time. Let’s just take the thing that truly stood out for me. This is the exact question and answer: ‘Are you willing, tonight, to condemn white supremacists and militia groups and to say they need to stand down?’ The President shrugged his shoulder. ‘Sure, I’m willing to do that. But I would say almost everything I see is from the left wing, not the right wing.’ Trump continued to say words, but say nothing. ‘I’m willing to do anything. I want to see peace.’ Moderator Wallace pressed the question: ‘Well then, do it, sir.’ Former Vice President Joe Biden jumped in: ‘Say it. Do it. Say it’. For what seemed like the first time in the debate Trump paused. ‘What do you want to call them?’ Trump gestured at Wallace. ‘Give me a name, give me a name.’ ‘White supremacists,’ Wallace answered. ‘The Proud Boys’, Biden added, referring to the far-right group of self-described ‘Western chauvinists’ who often engage in armed violence at protests. ‘Proud Boys, stand back, and stand by,’ Trump said. The way you talk to yourself dictates how you think and feel. You may have past experiences of rejection or may have overheard family members that spoke badly of themselves as you were growing up which felt normal and you followed the same path. Whatever your trigger is, it is important to understand and acknowledge it, in order to be able to move on. You need to understand that you are not your past, nor are you the emotion that you attach it to. Experiences offer us a lesson to learn and will always teach you HOW you want to live the rest of your life. You cannot

Here are four steps to understand and release your emotional triggers: 1. Learn your Triggers - The most important step is to understand when you are being triggered. Say this affirmation aloud ‘I am not my past, I choose to let this go.’ 2. Breath - Triggers will cause stress. This includes tightness of chest, anxiousness, feeling hot, sweaty and feeling tense. When you feel these, breathe! Inhale deeply through the nose, hold for two seconds and then slowly release the breath through the mouth. Once you have calmed your breathing, this will help calm the mind.
3. Do not give in to Avoidance Avoiding the situation will make it worse. Ignoring your triggers, does not cure the situation, it makes it worse. Each time you avoid, it will become a bigger issue next time. It is important that you deal with your triggers. If you don’t feel you can do this alone, seek help from a professional 4. Understand How You Want To Feel - Look at your end goal. Where do you want to be in six months? How do you want to think and feel? Write a letter as if you are you in sixmonths’ time. Imagine you have acknowledged and released your triggers. Imagine you have forgiven everything in your past. How does that feel? What does that look like? Tell your today self what you will think and feel after reaching this goal. Once you have written your letter, pin it somewhere and read it every single day.

BEING too happy could kill you. A major research project has found that joyful events causing a sudden surge of adrenaline, can lead to heart failure. Known officially as Takotsubo syndrome, it was originally detected and known as ‘broken heart syndrome’ caused when extreme emotional stress causes the heart to shut down. Beach clean-up Help clean our beaches.
PLASTIC FREE SEAS will be hosting a beach clean-up on October 17 on the beach at Laguna Village, Estepona. The event will run from 10am until 12.30pm and the association invite readers to bring the whole family to help make a big difference. There was a devastating large fire at Laguna Village recently and there is still a lot of waste that can be collected to assist the local area. Those who wish to attend are asked to bring their own gloves, remain two metres apart at all times, to observe social distancing measures, unless in your family bubble. Plastic Free Seas will provide the bags and dispose of the waste collected. On the day, the collection will start at
10am, children can have certificates and group photos at 11.45am followed by a questions and answers session in the beach bar at 12.30pm. Plastic Free Seas is led by Craig Webb and was launched to increase awareness about the amount of plastic being dumped into our seas every year. Approximately one lorry load of plastic is dumped into our seas every minute equating to eight million tonnes a year. Craig’s mission is to bring communities together and start making a difference to the carnage that we are subjecting our natural world to. The only way that I could have attended is to quarantine for two weeks in the UK. Problem with that is that I need to get back to my little restaurant as I am the only chef these days and closing for two weeks would kill it off completely. A doctor friend of ours offered me a full blown Covid test and if negative I was told that I should be ok to travel without quarantine, but the UK security refused the idea. We have regular tests for ourselves and our staff which are always negative but none of this made any difference either. So, I stayed home whilst Stef got married to Mike. They stayed at the Savoy (my old training ground) and married in Tavistock Square, London and had
Mike and Stefanie outside The Savoy Hotel on their wedding day last week. their wedding dinner at a Peruvian restaurant called Coya in Mayfair. So, on that special day I made ceviche of prawns for myself and some friends with Stef in my thoughts as I sat on the terrace dining table in Mijas eating it with a glass of bubbly whilst Stef and family were having fun at Coya! What makes Ceviche one of Stefanie’s favourite foods? Well it’s healthy (she is a real healthy Chica) it’s fresh, it’s super tasty and a bit spicy, which are all great components to have in any recipe. This time last year Stefanie visited us in Spain and we

complex near Estepona. As most of you will know Laguna Beach burned
down a few weeks ago with a horrendous fire which started in the pretty little thatched roofs that they have. (I know how easy that is because the Pink Geranium burned down in 1991 with a thatch fire). A devastating blow to everyone living over here because Laguna Village was somewhere that everyone enjoyed eating in, or shopping, or just relaxing on the beach with some cocktails. I remember that we ate sea bass ceviche with Stefanie as well as many other things, so it’s a dish that always reminds me of her. Seeing her photographed outside the front of The Savoy in London brought back fond memories of when I was working there. On my first day I had walked through the grand front entrance. The reception manager summoned me and quickly pushed me out and told me to use the staff entrance around the corner. I went through this small side door into this huge kitchen with over 120
chefs and asked to see the Chef. They all laughed out loud. The Chef is having lunch in his office today they said so he isn’t available. I remember thinking, one day I will arrive, walk through the front door to the Chef’s office and have lunch. All the VIPs had lunch in Chef’s office. Many years later that is exactly what happened. I was invited by the head chef Anton Edelman who had asked me to join him for a special lunch in the Savoy kitchen office. I had arrived!! I drove my Bentley convertible up to the front door and Tony Cortegaca the doorman opened the door and said, “I remember you when you were a little whipper snapper!” All those memories came flooding back when I saw the picture of Stef and Mike outside The Savoy. I am sorry Stef and Mike to have missed your special day but I was with you in thought and here is my secret recipe created especially for you and named after you. It’s a twist on ceviche and probably the best you will ever eat! I wonder if Tony is still the doorman at The Savoy? (Since writing this I discovered to my delight that he still is!)

Prawn Ceviche a la Stefanie! Serves Two For Pickled Jalapenos 2 mild Jalapenos ½ red onion 200ml white wine vinegar 100 ml white wine 100g caster sugar For prawn marinade 200 ml olive oil 1 finely chopped red spicy chilli 1 tbsp of honey Juice of 1 lime Juice of 1 lemon Seasoning To cook prawns 4 large plump prawns like tiger prawns 250 ml of fish stock salt and pepper For avocado puree 1 avocado 1 lime
A dash of olive oil Salt To garnish Sprigs of fresh coriander Micro cresses Pickled Jalapenos above Method Pickle the Jalapenos by bringing the white wine, sugar and vinegar to the boil Slice the Jalapenos and the red onion and put them in a kilner jar or in a jam jar with a lid
Pour over the pickle liquid and put cap on and leave in the fridge for a few days or at least 24 hours Poach the prawns gently and cook them lightly in the fish stock Mix the prawn marinade ingredients together and add the cooked prawns, cover and leave for a few hours in the fridge Make the avocado puree in your blender
and add the lime and olive oil and season well To construct dish Spread the avocado puree onto a plate using a palette knife To p w i t h p i e c e s o f the marinaded prawns, the pickled jalapenos and red onions and then final sprigs of fresh coriander and some micro cresses Serve with homemade tortilla chip (optional).

Animal firework phobia MANY humans enjoy fireworks, but for lots of dogs they cause huge suffering and panic. It’s impossible to avoid our pet hearing explosions, but you can help minimise the impact. Avoid taking them outside when they’re going off. If there’s no way to avoid it, use a good lead to ensure a panicked pet can’t get loose. Try not to leave pets home alone and reduce noise by keeping doors and windows closed. A calm attitude is vital and never shout as this worsens fear. While noise lasts, don’t cuddle or calm, remain impassive and act as if nothing is wrong. Once noise ends and they are calm, you can stroke and reward them. Music to cover noise and a favourite toy may distract a younger animal and help it adapt. Get puppies used to this type of noise as soon as possible to avoid life-long phobias. If all else fails, speak to a vet as drugs and methods using pheromones can help.

WALKING FOOTBALL IS BACK IN ACTION AS the clubs wait for the hoped for resumption of the Walking Football League in January, four of them got together to form a friendly challenge tournament to keep their players match fit for the start of the season
proper. Malaga (formerly Smiles) have three teams, Benahavis two with Aston Viñuela and the Walking Dead making seven teams who will be contesting the BAHA Whisky Walking Football Challenge Trophy.
The competition got off to a start last Saturday when Aston Viñuela made the journey to Calahonda to play Malaga B in the opening games. This was a ‘double header’ as Viñuela’s pitch is not yet available.
Both games were keenly contested and well refereed by Owen and Brian Simpson. In the first game an early goal from Andy for Viñuela settled them and saw them ahead at half time. They were shocked early in the second half when Marcello scored an excellent goal to level the scores. The same player was denied from giving his side the lead when through on goal and only the keeper to beat. However a tremendous reflex save from John Ramage kept the score level. Viñuela in their all yellow strip stepped up a gear after this shock and
goals from Andy and Dean secured the 3-1 win. Both sides made changes for the ‘return’ fixture with Walking Football’s only women player in the south of Spain, Sheila Clifford, (ex Chelsea Ladies FC ), taking her place in the Viñuela line up. The Yellows again took an early lead through Doug and held on to that lead at half time. Viñuela reasserted themselves in the second half and quickly settled with Sheila prominent in much of the play and executing some superb passes, and assisting in goals from Phil and then Andy and Dean adding further goals for Viñuela to win by 4-0. Malaga manager Gray Salt said he was obviously disappointed at the results but it was a good exercise for his players who will come back stronger. Steve Mausham for Viñuela was very satisfied, particularly as it was two wins ‘away from home’ and a six point start in

In other news after talks between the teams and the League management the 2019 Euro Weekly News/Blue Sky Marbella League Cup Final will take place on Saturday October 17 at the Finca Naundrup, kick off 3 pm. This will be preceeded by an exhibition walking football match between Esquina Park Rangers and Malaga A kicking off at 1pm. These two top teams will provide an excellent show of walking football before Aston Viñuela and Walking Football Spain A battle it out for the League Cup. With the prospect of most of WFS A team players being available and Viñuela gaining confidence from last weekend’s double win over Malaga B this promises to be another compelling match.
