LAST week the Valencia Community’s Covid-19 infection rate of 42 cases for every 100,000 was one of the lowest in Spain. ENTRANCE gates have been modified following a survey at four Benidorm schools to ensure that social distancing can be maintained. Existing gates have been widened and, in the case of the Puig Campana primary school, their original 80 centimetres have been doubled to 1.60 metres. The Gabriel Miro and Ausias March schools each have new gates for their infants’ sections, which give directly onto the areas where the youngest pupils’ classrooms and playgrounds are located.

Mega sports stadium for Albir ALFAZ Town Hall will build a covered sports stadium in the Albir area. Comprising two connected sections, each with a built area of 2,000 square metres, the installation will hold 1,300 people. Construction is expected to take 18 months and €823,000 of the estimated €1.927 million cost will be met by the Diputacion provincial council. Vicente Arques, Alfaz’s mayor, announced the project during a recent visit to the town by Javier Gutierrez, who heads the Diputacion’s Infrastructure department.

Javea pools its ideas JAVEA’S local government is currently meeting business associations linked to tourism in a bid to create an inclusive economic strategy. The town hall is convinced that it is essential to be united and listen to all voices in order to define strategies that can help the local economy withstand the financial crisis triggered by the health crisis. Exhausted dog rescued FIREFIGHTERS rescued a dog in Alfaz that had fallen into a two-metre deep hole. Two people walking in the El Romeral area saw the dog and rang the Emergency Services who sent out firefighters from Benidorm who managed to extract the dog which by then was exhausted by its unsuccessful efforts to escape. The dog is now with Alfaz’s Local Police, but it does not have a microchip and has not yet been claimed by an owner.

“We have acquired supplies enabling us to carry out up to 14,000 tests each day,” a spokesman said. The region’s new measures are in line with the central government’s Health Ministry updated national strategy for early detection and control of the coronavirus. All autonomous regions were recently urged to increase their testing capacity and reminded of the need to differentiate between the virus and ‘acute respiratory infections.’ In this respect, Health minister Salvador Illa specified that a diagnostic test should be carried out on any person with suspected SARS.CoV-2 within the first 24 hours.

Riding out the storm LAST week, as reported in the Euro Weekly News, representatives from the crisis-hit hospitality trade demonstrated in Benidorm’s streets. ABRECA and COBRECA, which both represent Benidorm’s bars and restaurants, have devised a formula that they hope will shore up the faltering sector during the winter months. Together with two holiday letting firms they will, from October 14 onwards, be participating in an accommodation-plus-meals deal that ABRECA’s Alex Fratini described as a first for Europe. The overall charge includes breakfast and either lunch or dinner in any bar, restaurant or cafeteria that belongs to ABRECA or COBRECA. Furthermore, as they have pointed out, users will soon be able to take advantage of the Valencian Community’s discount scheme that commences on October 20. The Bono Viatge Comunitat Valenciana has been introduced to serve the double purpose of providing thousands of Valencian Community residents with discounts on accommodation throughout the region while helping the tourist industry to survive the economic crisis created by the coronavirus pandemic. The scheme, available to all Valencian Community residents registered on a municipal Padron in one of its three provinces, provides a 70 per cent discount of the cost of holidaying in the region, up to a maximum of €600.

Retired doctors Discount Computers MORE than 2,000 retired doctors have offered to return to work to help out in the face of the health crisis in Spain. The country is experiencing a shortage of health personnel and last week it was revealed the national health service needs some 88,000 doctors, nurses and orderlies to cope with the coronavirus pandemic. And, according to Antena 3, the situation has been made all the more critical as many health professionals are forced to look for work abroad ‘in search of decent contracts.’ In light of the shortage several autonomous communities across Spain are experiencing, 2,000 doctors have offered their ‘valuable experience.’ Dr Carlos Gálvez, spokesman for Retired Doctors of Sevilla, said “we, retired doctors, have done everything, we have experience that I think is valuable.”

SPANISH utility company, Endesa, has begun delivering 5,000 computers and internet connection cards to ‘vulnerable’ students across 60 towns and districts. The initiative aims to ‘protect against the digital divide’ caused by the covid pandemic. In addition, both students and teachers will receive training in digital skills. The distribution of computers and internet connections will begin in Ceuta and extend to Melilla, Andalucia, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Castilla y Leon, Aragon, Galicia and Extremadura in the coming weeks. In total, 5,000 students from around 500 public schools will benefit, while approximately 800 teachers will receive training. This is the second phase of Endesa’s Public Responsibility Plan. The first phase in March saw the company invest €12 million in medical supplies to support the entities fighting the Covid pandemic at that time.

Hotelier Busted A HOTEL manager hosted a 200-person strong funeral party and has been fined a staggering £10,000 as a result of breaching the UK’s coronavirus lockdown restrictions. The German travel company has initially scheduled seven weekly flights to Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, according to the Canary Island government. Speaking on Thursday October 1 following a videoconference meeting with TUI group CEO Sebastian Ebel, regional President Angel Victor Torres described the decision to set up safe travel corridors to the Canaries at this time as “very good news.” Tourism minister Yaiza Castilla explained that the Canary administration has reached an agreement with TUI on voluntary selective Covid-19 testing for tourists taking winter holidays with the firm in accordance with the levels of infection in their destinations of origin.

TUI Returns FLIGHTS RESUME: From Germany to the Canary Islands.

Trapped inside A BOY, three, spent hours locked in a school bus without anyone noticing he was missing. The child reportedly fell asleep and didn’t get off at a bus stop in Oleiros, in A Coruña. Neither the bus escort nor the driver noticed that the young boy was still on board. It was only when the school bus was parked up at a nearby town hall four hours later that the child was discovered by another driver, who took the boy to Lui Seoane Primary School where he is a pupil. The Territorial Chief of Education is investigating what happened, while the school claims the child ‘did not enter school grounds so it was considered that the family did not send him.’ According to Spanish press reports, residents have expressed their ‘indignation and disbelief’ about the incident, with one quoted as saying “we all have failures, but here there are no excuses, he is a child.”

THE UK is considering floating barriers to stem the influx of migrants via the English Channel. A leaked document has confirmed that the UK government is currently considering a strategy to place floating blockades within the English Channel to stop asylum seekers from entering the country.

Broken Bone Bandage A ‘BANDAGE’ to rebuild broken bones and speed up the healing process could be available within the next few years, say scientists. Researchers at King’s College London have developed a material that allows transplantation of bone-forming stem cells into severe bone fractures and speeds up the healing process.

This new method improves repair and may change how broken bones are treated. The breakthrough could lead to less complications, infections and poor outcomes for serious injuries, claim scientists. The biomaterial, like a bandage, is coated in a protein that is used throughout the body for growth and repair.

The document shows that the Home Office have approached Maritime UK to discuss and analyse the potential feasibility of the plan. The ‘marine fencing’ would be required to ‘prevent a slow-moving, heavily overloaded migrant boat from making progress.’ A number of news

The book titled ‘Hágase tu voluntad’ (Thy will be done) is the story of a young woman who was lured by the leader of a ‘religious sect’ to Peru, abandoning her family and entering into a life of horror in the process. The book is written by Vanesa Lozano who tells

the extraordinary story of Patricia Aguilar which aims to raise awareness to young people about the dangers of the internet. Patricia Aguilar was only 16 when she fell for the teachings of ‘guru’ Félix Steven Manrique, who called himself ‘The Prince.’ Manrique managed to convince Aguilar and other women that they needed to take care of him. The book tells the story of how Aguilar met Manrique online and how he per-

suaded her to leave home when she was 18 and abandon her family. Patricia was forced to live with the 35-year-old man and two other women. The young Elche woman was with the man, the women and five other children for a year and a half before being rescued. New Judicial success in legal claim between buyer and seller in Spain favour of our client, defended by White Baos Abogados. Our client, Mr X, had recently sold a property

in Spain. He received a court claim filed against him by the buyer, months after the signing of the purchase deed before a notary public. The buyer was claiming about €13,500 from my client, the seller, for alleged construction problems; damp, and for the existence of termites on the property. The claim was presented, six months after handing over possession of the property, the claim from the other party was not based on a hidden defect, but based on the technical point of delivery of a different thing to that which was agreed. It was declared by the claimant or plaintiff that problems with the property, meant that it was

not useful or suitable for the intended use. It is what is known as the Aliud Pro Alio or ‘one thing for another,’ whose legal basis is found in articles 1101 and 1124 of the Spanish Civil Code. Our defence in court, was that in these cases the existence of a problem is not enough and must be substantial, involving the total dissatisfaction of the buyer. In the aforementioned case, at no time was it proven by the other party, that the damp or termites (whose existence we questioned), if they exist, were essential or relevant, in such a way that it could be understood that the plaintiff had been delivered a useless object by my client. Based on this argu-

ment, the Denia court No 4 dismissed the claim filed against my client and ordered the other party to pay the costs of the court procedure. Therefore, if you as a buyer or seller have legal doubts or court problems, in relation to any property bought or sold, or if construction problems, dampness, termites, etc exist, you have to take into account: • That depending on the action you want to initiate, for hidden defects or for the delivery of something different, the term to file the claim is six months or five years. • You should immediately consult specialist lawyers such as ourselves. • Depending on the type of action filed, it will not be enough to prove

the existence of the problem, but rather to prove its importance and that it was not known or visible. • If you intend to initiate a legal action for the delivery of something different than agreed, you must also prove that the problem makes the property impractical for the intended use. Madrid Confusion THE Ministry of Health restrictions that were brought into effect in Madrid on Friday, October 2, have caused confusion for the city’s citizens. More than 4.5 million people are affected by the new restrictions however many people have expressed concern and confusion over the new rules.

It appears that many people are confusing the new restrictions with those implemented nationwide back in March and furthermore with previous restrictions that were instigated in specific areas of the city in September. The Ministry has confirmed it is working hard to clarify the confusion for the public.

A BRITISH man from Southport, Merseyside, has been stabbed to death in Cuidad Quesada near Alicante on the Costa Brava. The man, who has not been named, was discovered fatally wounded early on Thursday morning with multiple stab wounds to the neck. It is understood that a fight broke out at a house party and the incident occured shortly after. A police manhunt is now being undertaken and it is understood that the attacker is also British. After he was stabbed, the victim stumbled out of the house onto the street and subsequently collapsed and died.

Foul mouthed A ZOO had to remove ‘Swearing Parrots’ after complaints from the public! Lincolnshire Wildlife Park in the UK was forced to move the ‘rude’ birds to an ‘offshore’ enclosure and out of earshot of patrons. A group of African Grey parrots at the zoo were removed after repeating obscene language at visitors. Just like the cheap battery-powered toys that kids have for presents, the ‘feathered foul-mouthed flock of Parakeets’ were so rude that they even had the keepers red-faced! Human Guinea Pigs RESEARCHERS are to start infecting trial subjects with Covid-19 to test a vaccine and there are over 2,000 volunteers that have signed up for the experiment. Many British people are volunteering to become part of the abolishment of the disease through a vaccine. The volunteers will be vaccinated with the potential preventative and will be later introduced to the Covid-19 disease to see if the vaccine is successful. The human trials will be scheduled to start in January 2021 and the volunteers will be experimented on in Whitechapel, east London in a very secure address.

Business park drawbacks Last chance DEFENDAMOS CALPE councillors claimed that the site of the proposed business park is a flood plain. Development approved TEULADA-MORAIRA has had to approve a development on the town’s last remaining plots of virgin land. Not doing so would have meant compensating the Pinada del Molinet developers with €19 million, explained a local government communique. “The Compromis-PSOE-Unaligned coalition has never believed in this project,”

the statement insisted, explaining that former mayor Carlos Linares turned down the chance of acquiring the land in 2016. Owing to the impossibility of reversing the agreement between the then-mayor and the landowners, the town hall has negotiated with the developers who have agreed to reduce the number of properties by 30 per cent.

AL FRESCO LIVING Let’s face it, who wants to deal with the cold, dark clouds and rain. The Meteorological Office (MET) in the UK estimates that it rains at least 156 days per year. Employees in Spain typically receive approximately 41 days of annual leave per years whereas in the UK you only receive a measly 28. With those extra days off you are able to fully experience the rich and vibrant culture of Spain that is evident around every corner you turn. Furthermore, the UK regularly ranks as one of the worst places to live in Europe. Multiple studies over the last decade have placed the UK at the bottom of the list and the Expat Insider Report, 2019, revealed the same results. With Spain on your doorstep and the option to integrate yourself into this vibrant culture still readily available until December 31, 2020, it is a wonder that, despite the current global situation, that Brits aren’t flocking here. Throughout the pandemic, Brits in Spain have hailed the response of the Spanish government, police and army for their handling of the global pandemic. Although the draconian measures were tough on everyone, the clarity and immediate action by the authorities meant that the population felt safe and knew what was expected of them. Since the lockdown was lifted, Brits who have travelled despite quarantine restrictions in the UK have applauded the Spanish response with numerous tourists taking to social media to express how much safer they feel in Spain during this crisis than they do in the UK. Furthermore, if you get your skates on and move prior to the end of this year (December 31) you will still be fully covered under the UK’s Withdrawal Agreement with the EU, which means you can ensure you retain permanent residency in Spain. So, the question really is less about why you should move to Spain but instead why aren’t you moving to Spain? With a glorious friendly culture in a warm and comfortable climate, where you can enjoy sandy beaches, a cocktail in hand or walk your dog while enjoying the range of nature on your doorstep … why are you not already here?

Nona, who was a music teacher and came to Javea in 1963, insisted on blowing out the candles on her cake at exactly 2.10pm, representing her date and time of birth. Her son, who was present at the party, made a speech describing her life and hobbies and per formed a song written in her honour called La Reina de Javea, which is how Nona’s friends describe her. Three Kings will visit Javea THE Fiestas department has assured Javea’s girls and boys that Covid-19 can’t keep the Three Kings away. This is the time of year when the town hall starts planning the Christmas lights and the welcome for Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar who arrive each year at Javea’s fishing port on the night of January 5. Fiestas councillor Kika Mata said it was inevitable that this year would be different, and it would be necessary to avoid crowds during the Kings’ arrival and parade. “Nonetheless,” Mata declared, “The Three Kings are coming to Javea and they will do so in a safe manner.”

Amjasa improves water pipes MUNICIPAL water company Amjasa will renew Javea’s domestic supply pipelines at Carretera de La Guardia and the Carrasquetes-Castelllans district. Costing an estimated €373,750, the three-month project is included in Amjasa’s annual investment programme to improve its service and prevent future breakdowns and leaks. The contract to carry out the work is split into three sections that will be put out to tender separately, covering Calle Moixeta and Carretera de La Gardia as well as the section between Cami Castellans and Calle Pic del Montsia.

Record employment results SEPTEMBER was a record month in Spain for the number of new jobs created which when coupled with a further fall in unemployment is per­ haps surprising although there are still large numbers of people on fur­ lough or working shorter hours. Overall, however it has to be posi­ tive news that the State Public Em­ ployment Service reported the num­ ber of unemployed fell by slightly more than 26,000 (0.7 per cent) and the number of new jobs created broke 84,000. In ‘normal years,’ September is considered a bad month for Spanish

workers as the main tourism season comes to an end and many people on short term contracts who are as­ sociated with the hospitality indus­ try find themselves unemployed. That was then and this is now! The lockdown and pandemic have com­ pletely changed the rules and many of those in hospitality found that their season ended much earlier and they entered the public system in previous months. Now to record 84,000 new jobs suggests that other areas of the economy are beginning to recover and either creating new work or

bringing employees back to their old jobs from which they had been placed on furlough. According to Expansion this drop in the number of unemployed in September has never been so large since records began in 1996 and since 2008, unemployment in Sep­ tember has gone up rather than down. The article says that, ‘We suppose that you would apply for the new TIE.’ Is it manda­ tory that we all have to change our existing resi­ dency card for something new, and if we do not, what could happen? A L (by email) If you in­ tend to YOU AND THE LAW continue to reside IN SPAIN in Spain, you need to exchange your present ‘Certificate of Residence of a European Union Citizen’ for a TIE, a Tarjeta de Identificación de Extranjero. This is because you are no longer a citizen of the European Union. This TIE is in fact a European Union card. It is based on Article 50 TEU in accordance with Article 18.4 of the UK withdrawal agreement. You should make this exchange before December 31. You will need Form EX23, which you can download from the internet and Form 790 code 12 on which you pay the small fee and one identification card size photo. If you do not get the TIE, at some point next year you will be considered a non­resident of Spain.

JUST a year since regulators refused to approve a merg­ er between Asda and Sains­ bury’s, American owners Walmart have announced that they have sold the su­ permarket chain for £6.8 billion (€7.5 billion) to a British consortium. On the face of things, the purchase of Asda by Wal­ mart 21 years ago wasn’t a great investment as they are making just £100 mil­ lion (€110 million) profit from the sale but they are keeping some shares and will have a single seat on the board. Triumphant purchasers are petrol billionaires Mohsin and Zuber Issa who own the Lancashire based EG Group working with

London private equity firm TDR Capital who between them look to see the super­ market return to growth and have promised to keep prices low whilst investing more than £1 billion (€1.1 billion) over the next three years. Initially at least, there are unlikely to be many major changes as headquarters will remain in Leeds and current CEO Roger Burnley has received a vote of confi­ dence and will be main­ tained in his role. According to YouGov pollsters, Asda is now the seventh most popular su­ permarket in the United Kingdom and has a long way to go to beat leaders Aldi, M&S Food and Lidl.

Public debt is rising

FINANCE MINISTER MONTERO: Called for a “fiscally responsible” approach. ACCORDING to figures released by the Bank of Spain, the public debt soared to €1.29 trillion in the second quarter of 2020 which is its highest level for 20 years, due to its efforts to cope with the results of the pandemic. Although this is a huge amount, it compares favourably with the United Kingdom debt which reached £2 trillion (€2.2 trillion) at the end of June and like Spain still continues to increase on a monthly basis. Normal rules no longer apply and whilst the European Union set targets for all member states requiring that public debt should be no higher than 60 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP),

this is simply unrealistic at the present time. The reality is that whilst it stood at 99 per cent in the first quarter, it rose to 110 per cent as Spain was in lockdown for much of the second quarter and was trying to assist those in financial need whilst reeling from the loss of important tourist and export business. Taking a pragmatic approach, the government has decided (like Britain and some other countries) to suspend the budget and try to cope with matters as they occur whilst maintaining what Finance Minister, María Jesús Montero called a “fiscally responsible” ap­ proach when announcing this at a press conference. One piece of good news is that analysts forecast that GDP which had fallen dramatically in the first

LEAPY LEE SAYS IT OTHERS THINK IT JUST recently a 16-year-old young hoodlum became inv olv e d i n a c a r c h a s e wi th a number of police vehicles. Attempting to swerve around a police road block his car struck a young officer who was dragged along before being thrown off and sustaining multiple injuries, including a fractured leg. The car was finally brought to a halt and the driver arrested. The charges were, stealing a car, failing to stop; possession of cannabis; failing to provide a blood sample; causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without a licence or insurance. The officer was off work for five weeks and also suffered a psychological impact that required mental treatment and counselling. At his trial the judge’s ruling on this young toe rag was a piddling, noncustodial 12 month rehabilitation order, and a fine of £100! You really couldn’t make it up. What this basically means is that this waste of space was back with his mates that evening, his ‘street cred’ on a high, a

New generation of youngsters joint in his mouth and his eye on whatever other criminal endeavours he could turn his hand to. The message taken back to his fellow young cronies? As long as you’re under 18, you can get away with just about anything. Some of these judges are not fit to serve up slop in a prison kitchen, leave alone serve up justice on the bench. The way to prevent young thugs like this re-offending is to bang ‘em up in a serious boot camp. Control their every waking and sleeping moment with the strictest regulations and make them never want to be put back inside again. But it won’t happen will it? The ‘wokes’ and liberal lefties of our society have somehow managed to take control of our rules and regulations and appear to have completely dispensed with common sense. Under the guise of ‘sex education’ they have allowed live sexual acts to take place in our classrooms. Tried to normalise grown men in dresses sharing locker rooms with young girls and made parents afraid to chastise or discipline their own children for

fear they will be reported for some form of child abuse. Unless it agrees with their own warped doctrine, they have also managed to virtually destroy freedom of speech and influence our children into regarding any decision by the authorities as an infringement of their ‘uman rights. The result of all this dangerous nonsense, is new generations of youngsters with, no regard whatsoever for law and order, an utterly self-centered attitude of entitlement, and the belief that despite a history of utter failure, socialism is the answer to everything. To the left of course it all makes perfect sense; the more dependent the people are on the state the more they can be controlled. Their ultimate ambition is communism and the brainwashed young their prime targets. By the time our youngsters realise they have been duped it will all be too late. CRASH SPANISH police have launched a ‘murder-suicide’ probe after a British husband was killed in a head-on collision witrh a lorry. The body of his wife ‘who had died days earlier’ was found in the wreckage. Police suspect the 38-year-old man may have intended to end his own life after murdering his COLLISION: Now a murder probe. French wife, 41, in their mobile home, following a row. The fatal crash occurred on the A-381 motorway near the town of Los Barrios close to Gibraltar. Early Start FLU VACCINE: Has begun earlier this year due to Covid-19. SPAIN started rolling out its early flu vaccination campaign this week ‘amid second wave of Covid-19 infections.’ The most vulnerable and ‘at risk’ will be prioritised across the country. The campaign normally begins in November, but health bosses say an early start will be ‘key in an autumn-winter marked by the second wave of Covid-19 infections.’ Several autonomous communities, such as the Valencia Community, Castilla y León, Galicia and Navarra are among the first to begin to vaccinate their ‘most at risk.’ Minister of Health, Ana Barceló, stressed that ·”this year it is especially important that risk groups get vaccinated against the flu” due to Covid-19, and said the goal is to vaccinate 75 per cent of those over 65 years along with health personnel and 60 per cent of the rest of those at risk. In addition, a vaccination strategy will be carried out aimed at residents and staff at nursing homes and day centres, “so that they are vaccinated, preferably, during the first week of the campaign.”

Study shows a sudden surge of happiness could lead to heart failure BEING too happy could kill you. A major research project has found that joyful events causing a sudden surge of adrenaline, can lead to heart failure. Known officially as Takotsubo syndrome, it was originally detected and known as ‘broken heart syndrome’ caused when extreme emotional stress causes the heart to shut down. But the authors of the new study, led by researchers in Switzerland, suggest that a small number of cases would be better known as ‘happy heart syndrome.’ Their study was based on 1,750 patients in nine different countries. Of 485 patients who researchers identified as having an emotional trigger, 96 per cent had suffered sad and stressful events such as the loss of a loved one or attending a funeral. However,

in 20 individuals, heart damage appeared to have been triggered by happy occasions including a birthday party, a wedding, a surprise celebration, the birth of a grandchild, or even a rugby team winning a game. The condition, which strikes suddenly, causes the heart chamber to balloon out at the bottom while the neck remains narrow. In the UK, around 5 per cent of patients die after suffering from the syndrome.

The way you talk to yourself dictates how you think and feel. You may have past experiences of rejection or may have overheard family members that spoke badly of themselves as you were growing up which felt normal and you followed the same path. Whatever your trigger is, it is important to understand and acknowledge it, in order to be able to move on. You need to understand that you are not your past, nor are you the emotion that you attach it to. Experiences offer us a lesson to learn and will always teach you HOW you want to live the rest of your life. You cannot control external factors, only control the emotion that you attach to it!

Here are four steps to understand and release your emotional triggers: 1. Learn your Triggers The most important step is to understand when you are being triggered. Listen to your thoughts and feel the current feelings that you have. Ask the question, what past experience has made me feel this way? Label your trigger without judgement. Say this affirmation aloud ‘I am not my past, I choose to let this go.’ 2. Breath - Triggers will cause stress. This includes tightness of chest, anxiousness, feeling hot, sweaty and feeling tense. When you feel these, breathe! Inhale deeply through the nose, hold for two seconds and then slowly release the breath through the

mouth. Once you have calmed your breathing, this will help calm the mind. 3. Do not give in to Avoidance - Avoiding the situation will make it worse. Ignoring your triggers, does not cure the situation, it makes it worse. Each time you avoid, it will become a bigger issue next time. It is important that you deal with your triggers. If you don’t feel you can do this alone, seek help from a professional 4. Understand How You

Want To Feel - Look at your end goal. Where do you want to be in six months? How do you want to think and feel? Write a letter as if you are you in sixmonths’ time. Imagine you have acknowledged and released your triggers. Imagine you have forgiven everything in your past. How does that feel? What does that look like? Tell your today self what you will think and feel after reaching this goal. Once you have written your letter, pin it somewhere and read it every single day.
