Like it or not, neither residents nor visitors have a choice because wearing them is obligatory until further notice. As temperatures soar, wearing a face mask is an ordeal for the fit and healthy and although people with respiratory problems are excused, this is a Catch 22 situation as they are the most likely to end up in the ICU if they contract Covid-19. LOTS of confusion, on the mask front again, (not really a surprise is it?). What is the protocol when travelling in vehicles? Well they are actually very straightforward, so as a public service here are the rules: IN A CAR *If you are alone you don’t have to wear a mask. *If you are with members of your household you don’t have to wear a mask. *If you are with people who do not live in your household you must wear a mask. PUBLIC TRANSPORT *You must wear a mask at all times on public transport, be it a bus, train, taxi or Uber.

ELECTRICAL connections are being strengthened in La Manga del Mar Menor to avoid power cuts. Working with San Javier Council, Iberdrola will dismantle the current line and install new aerial cables in the Encañizadas area. The council and Iberdrola’s ‘electrical interconnection of the northern zone’ scheme will cost €6 million and involves replacing the current medium and low voltage lines and getting rid of the current electrical towers. The aim is also to improve the environmental appearance of the area and ‘recover the natural landscape.’ On Monday, July 20, San Javier mayor, José Miguel Luengo, and councillor for Public Services, María Dolores Ruiz, met with technicians for a progress report. The project, is still in the first phase, pending the completion of administrative procedures for the works, scheduled for autumn 2021. Initial works consist of drilling with a geolocation navigation system to pass the wiring at a depth of 15 metres. Luengo said the project is important “as it is necessary to avoid the power cuts that the residents of La Manga have periodically suffered.”

Trio in trouble THREE swimmers were re s c u e d a f t e r s t r u g gling to get out of the water in Puntas de Calnegre, Lorca. Lifeguards managed to pull two males aged 15 and 18 to safety, while a 51-yearold man was able to make it to the shore, but needed medical treatment for exhaustion. The Emergency Coordination Centre received calls from other beach users at around 10am, reporting two people holding onto a buoy about 50 metres from the shore and another drifting towards the rocks . The latter was able to get out of the water with the help of other bathers. Meanwhile, lifeguards (at that time the beach surveillance post was still closed) and a Maritime Rescue boat went to the place, though the boat was not required. All three were said to be in “good condition” and only the adult was taken to the health centre “due to the physical effort of getting out of the water.

Centres close THE Health Minister for Murcia, Manuel Villegas, announced on Monday, July 20, the closure of day centres in both Cieza and Totana. Also, it was announced restrictions on family visits to senior centres in Cieza, Totana and Murcia. This measure will last until July 27 and may be extended. Contact with family members will be by phone or videoconference. New visitor admissions are also suspended in nursing homes and disability homes in these three areas, along with the districts of Murcia. Although for the moment, Salud has not detected any positive cases in the elderly centres in the region, they want to take these measures because it is a high-risk population. New homes halted STATE OF ALARM has reduced the construction of new housing by more than half in the urban areas of the Vega Baja, Torrevieja and Orihuela. In the second quarter of the year, Orihuela started the construction of 169 homes, a decrease of 51.7 per cent compared to the first quarter of last year. Between April and June 2019, Orihuela began the construction of 314 homes compared to 169 in 2020, according to the Official College of Quantity Surveyors, Architects and Building Engineers of Alicante. With 23 more homes, Alicante surpasses Orihuela. The province’s

capital has reduced housing construction by 16 per cent compared to the period from January to March of this year, but has fallen by 24 per cent in the year-on-year comparison. Between January and March, Torrevieja began the building of 167 homes, but lockdown saw this figure slip to just 67. Two weeks after State of Alarm was declared, a new decree halted construction until April 9, as the activities were classified as non-essential. Orihuela has now embarked on projects to create 519 houses, Alicante 423 and Elche 157.

OLD CELLS: Cárcel Vieja in Murcia. THE rehabilitation plan of the Cárcel Vieja in Murcia begins with the demolition of part of the old prison’s perimeter walls. The project, which will transform the old prison into an open space for residents, will reuse the fallen stones to pave the new pedestrian space. The work has an investment of €1.9 million and will last one year. In total, five walls are going to be dropped: the side attached to the Hos-

pital de La Vega, and another four interior walls which face the prison courtyards. The main building will be recovered for social, cultural and recreational uses, while landscaped outdoor spaces will be created in the west and south courtyards. The old watchtowers and the northeast exterior perimeter wall, adjacent to the Post Office building, will also be maintained.

Jihadi probe THE Guardia Civil arrested a young man in Alicante’s San Vicente del Raspeig for allegedly spreading jihadist propaganda, created by Daesh, through video game platforms. According to police sources, the detainee developed an intense use of editing and disseminating jihadi content on various inter net platforms where chatrooms on weapons and online games stood out. In his propaganda, he was showing a great affinity for the most violent of terrorist groups, Daesh, also known as ISIS. The terrorist sympathiser managed to infiltrate various fo-

rums as an admin and he broadcasted multimedia like videos and informative posters for the creation, use and handling of illegal weapons. The detainee had also accumulated various police records, both from being at home and at school. Sources confirm that the detainee was also actively involved in the collaboration process of Jihadist terrorism but went by relatively unnoticed as he was mostly connected to this cell virtually from the comfort of his own home. THE Alicante Town Hall has allocated a €190,000 grant to help towns in the Vega Baja to improve support to expats such as Spanish courses, advisory services and intercultural days. NIGHTCLUB and discos have been told to close in Murcia following a surge in new cases of the coronavirus. From Monday, July 20, nightlife venues in Murcia will only be allowed to open if they have terraces and outdoors where all customers can be seated. The number of people that can gather in groups has been limited to a maximum of 15, whether public or private. The spike in cases started on Friday, July 17, when 21 people tested positive, followed by 23 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. These figures are actually high for Murcia which has managed so far to keep the spread of the virus at bay. This was announced by the Health Minister, Manuel Villegas, who also reported on the temporary closure of day centres for the elderly in the municipalities of Cieza and Totana and the restriction on visits to residences in those two municipalities, along with that of Murcia, to prevent further expansion of coronavirus cases. Only last week, the local authorities shut down four nightclubs in the area - now they have had to close all of them.

Hefty fines

NEW LAW: Pet owners face fines of up to €1,500 if they fail to clean up after pets in Alcantarilla. IRRESPONSIBLE dog owners in Alcantarilla face fines of up to €1,500 under a new law which states they must pick up poo and carry diluted vinegar to wash away urine. The amendment, which aims to prevent animals from dirtying the streets and public spaces, states that “it is prohibited to leave fecal stools and urination of dogs, cats or other animals on public roads.” It goes on to say that “the owners or keepers of the animals will be responsible for the collection of their excrement and their deposit in litter bins or containers, as

well as cleaning the urine with water and diluted vinegar. “They must be equipped with an excrement collection system and a container with a mixture of water and vinegar (one part vinegar in five parts water).” The non-removal and immediate cleaning up after pets will carry a fine of between €100 and €1,500. Councillor for Economic Development, José Antonio López Olmedo, will present the changes to the Municipal Ordinance on the protection and possession of animals in Alcantarilla at the next Plenary on Thursday, July 30.

Smoke free COUGH, COUGH: Unpleasantness of inhaling another bather’s smoke while sunbathing. ALICANTE Province has declared that 20 beaches will now be smoke-free around El Campello coastline, and the coves of Dénia and Elche. This initial move is only the beginning as the province intends to ban smoking on all its beaches with the first announcement made at the weekend prohibiting smoking in four different towns. They say that the health crisis has made the project for smoke-free beaches, more necessary than ever, due to the high risk of contagion. El Campello, Elche, Dénia and Finestrat have now taken measures that

many hope will lead to a total ban within the next few years. The unpleasantness of having your sunbathing ruined by abandoned cigarette butts or inhaling another bather’s smoke while sunbathing seems to hold a shared opinion that we could do without it. The mayor said that “We have to take care of our natural environment, cigarette butts take 10 years to disappear from the sand and they are understood to be a very important means of transmission of the coronavirus. “We are very proud to be the municipality that has the longest stretch of coastline which is free of smoke and to be pioneers in this initiative.”

Get on course THE Escuela Oficial de Idiomas in Elche has registered only 4,181 place requests for the 5,205 offered in the admission process, so there are still free places for the next course. English accounts for 55 per cent of the requests processed in the first option. In second place was French, which represents 12 per cent of requests, while third in the applicants’ preferences was Valencian, with 10.5 per cent of the total.

The list of those admitted can be consulted on the portal telematricula.es. Candidates who have obtained a place must formalise their enrolment by September 9. Within this period, each Escuela Oficial de Idiomas will establish and publish on its website the specific schedule for formalisation and delivery of the docu-

mentation required to complete the enrolment. In addition, on September 10 and 11, the Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas will enrol the students who have been on the waiting list, according to the order assigned by the telematic assistant. Metal bar NATIONAL POLICE officers have arrested a 44year-old man for allegedly threatening to kill another man with a metal bar after snatching a beer from him and then threatening police officers. The events occurred on Saturday afternoon, July 18, in the Marítim district in Valencia, where the suspect was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of threats, robbery with violence or intimidation, resistance and disobedience, as well as an attack on the authorities.

HOW did petanca players in Torrevieja keep happy during lockdown? By using their hallway as a piste and loo rolls as balls. Roof terraces took a battering from balls bowled gently and some watched old international games on Facebook. Then at the end of lockdown the owners of Domino bar in Los Altos, Colin and Sarahanne, had the brilliant idea of a summer league and to hell with the hot weather, we will manage!! The call went out and 15 teams responded, the Torrevieja Summer League was born. Because of certain restrictions regarding piste availability some matches are being played on a Monday, others on Wednesday either morning or at 5pm. All precautions are observed at each venue because we do not want a second lockdown.

COSTA BLANCA region’s freight carriers will join the strike called for July 27 and 28 in protest at the government’s decision to authorise vehicles of 44 tons and a half metre higher than normal, which they consider a threat to the economic stability of the companies. In addition, vehicles with these dimensions cannot circulate outside of Spain, so companies would need to “have some lorries for national transport and others for international” which would mean “doubling the fleet.” The president of FROET, Pedro Díaz, assures that the company feel overwhelmed by the practices that their clients have been imposing, such as forcing drivers to take care of the loading and unloading of vehicles. According to Díaz, the companies that use freight transport calculate that if drivers stopped doing this work, they would have to spend around €2,000m to increase the workforce. Some 14,000 carriers in the region, between companies and the self-employed, are called to the protest on July 27 and 28.

A YOUNG girl has been killed in a horror jet ski crash in Alicante. The eight-year-old died after the jet ski she had been riding with her father crashed into a boat in Mar Menor in La Manga, San Javier. The tragedy occurred on Saturday afternoon, July 18, when the youngster’s dad fell off the vehicle into the sea.

Hotspot fire prevention THE Murcia Region has launched a major fire prevention scheme to p re v e n t f o re s t a n d r i v e r b a n k blazes. The Thader initiative is made up of 32 environmental officers who will patrol the surroundings of the Segura, Argos and Mula river beds and the Mula-Bullas Region valleys and ravines, including Salto del Usero and Fuente Caputa. The Regional Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment has set up the prevention scheme in the ‘hotspot areas’ amid fears recent weather conditions could lead to a surge in fires. The destruction of tree and bush vegetation seriously affects the fauna and poses a ‘permanent danger to other environmental values.’ The Ministry warned the fires also ‘entail a

physical risk to those tackling the blazes’ and ‘considerable economic damage’ in terms of the cost of extinguishing the flames, securing the area and the devastation caused. As part of the new Thader prevention scheme, the environmental officers and specialised forest brigades will patrol river banks, reedbeds and ravines on a daily basis, providing information and support to users of these areas and looking out for irresponsible behaviour or activities. The frequency of fires in the area around the Segura river led the Directorate General for the Environment to implement a similar initiative in 2010, which has reportedly seen a steady decline in fires. However, this summer an abundance of vegetation, caused by unusually high rainfall in the region of Murcia, has led to fears there could be a rise in incidents this year.

the scene. Health workers tried to save the child’s life, but her condition was ‘very critical’ and she died as a result of serious injuries an hour after the accident. A Red Cross emergency response team was mobilised to provide psychological support to family members.

Bus drama TWO people were injured after a drunk bus driver ploughed into a house in La Tercia, Lorca. The bus collided with an Aguas de Murcia company vehicle which was parked on the roadside on Friday afternoon, July 17, and was also embedded in the house, sources close to the case told La Opinion de Murcia. Two people were injured, and an ambulance was therefore despatched. Sources confirmed the bus driver tested positive for alcohol and the Guardia Civil has taken charge of the case. The driver has not been arrested, but will be investigated for a crime against road safety.

Murcia Care pledge menace ONE of the tenants of a house located in the Murcian district of El Palmar will not be able to approach the other residents of the property after a complaint filed by them, claiming that he causes them continuous discomfort and does not let them live in peace. The restraining order has been ordered after proceedings were opened against this man, JTT, 44 years old, who was detained by officers of the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía (CNP). The complainants assured that this man has lived in the house for the last four months and that on several occasions they had warned him that he had to behave and not disturb others if he wanted to continue living there. In addition, they added that the incident that led them to denounce him was that he had menacingly displayed a kitchen knife against them.

This annual agreement serves as municipal support to the Virgen de las Nieves institution to carry out maintenance, care, fumigation and other treatments in the Pinada del

Paraje de la Ofra. It was initially hoped €21,000 would be allocated, but the Virgen de las Nieves Institution has accepted the reduction in light of the health pandemic. Puerto said “the Pine Forest and Paraje de la Ofra is a natural, recreational space with vital relevance for the people of Aspe, so the council is committed to continue preserving it.”

Mandatory isolation THE President of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol, wants certain travellers to undergo a mandatory quarantine upon arrival. The president will ask Pedro Sanchez that travellers who come to the Islands from Catalonia or other high-risk territories, national and international, should undergo a mandatory quarantine. This is one of the technical proposals that will be sent to the Ministry of Health next week. The Balearic Government wants health authorities in each autonomous community to be issued set recommendations with a clear guide that these travellers arriving in the Balearic Islands must stay in quarantine. The number of coronavirus cases in the Balearic Islands is currently very low, barely reaching a hundred active cases, but health authorities fear that outbreaks will emerge as tourists from high-risk areas arrive, such as Catalonia and Aragon. Amongst the other requests made is the proposal for security and sanitary controls to be reinforced, both at ports and airports, alongside extensive information campaigns which discourage mobility. The Balearic Government plans to increase the number of trackers to 400 to guarantee the traceability of all positive cases, but President Armengol also demands that a digital contact tool or app is implemented to support the work carried out by the trackers. It is also requested that the implementation of QR tracking tools be evaluated for places with a high influx of people. Mallorca has also been struggling to keep drunken tourists under control during such a fragile time during the health crisis.

The farm in the village of La Puebla de Valverde in the Aragon region, 125 miles east of Madrid, came to the attention of the authorities after the wife of one of its workers tested positive in May. Joaquin Olona, head of the Aragon agriculture department, said last week that seven farm workers had subsequently tested positive, including the woman’s husband. Health authorities have now ordered the culling of all 93,000 mink to prevent them from spreading the virus to more humans. It was only a few weeks ago authorities had initially ordered the animals be isolated. But after several rounds of testing they have decided the mink, which are far med for their fur, should be culled, as many as 80 per cent of a sample of the animals tested positive. The management of Secapiel, the company that runs the region’s only mink farm, was not immediately available for comment. Authorities in Madrid said the firm will receive financial compensation for the culling. Cases of mink with coronavirus were also identified in Denmark and the Netherlands to prevent far mers becoming infected.

A fixed­term annuity of 20 years pays tax on YOU AND THE LAW 25 per cent of the IN SPAIN yearly income. If you receive €20,000 each year from your fixed­term annuity, you will be taxed on €5,000. You declare this income in the invest­ ment part of the tax return. For investment income up to €6,000, the tax rate is 19 per cent, so this would draw tax of €950. However, you can deduct your personal minimo vital from your total income. If you are 80 years old, this reduction is €8,100. You can also apply this reduction to your Swedish pen­ sion income. You need a 2018 law book and a Spanish tax advi­ sor.

FINANCE, BUSINESS & LEGAL ATLANTIA, the Italian toll road compa­ ny which owns Spanish equivalent Abertis has been told by the Italian Government that if it wishes to contin­ ue to operate, it will need to give up an Italian subsidiary Autostrade. To make matters worse however, offi­ cials of all of the unions who have staff working for Abertis in Spain have called for a series of strikes on the Spanish mo­ torways during July and August. They argue that as Abertis is not en­ tering into new agreements concerning members’ employment rights and pay, they have no other course of action than to call out all 1,300 employees on strike. The intention is to target four week­ ends at the height of summer where staff will not be collecting tolls on any road managed by Abertis which repre­ sents about half of all of the Spanish toll roads. Over the years, the indigenous citizens have been swamped with illegal immigrants, torn apart with acts of terrorism, and watched their neighborhoods demolished and razed to the ground. They have experienced faceless skyscraper rehousing with different cultures they don’t understand and been consistently accused of racism. They have seen crimes of violence soar to record levels, observed the demise of free speech and all but lost their own identities. With the country now being throttled by the coronavirus and surrounded by a whole host of ‘experts,’ who deliver up far more answers than questions, is it no wonder the people are desperately seeking out someone to blame? No wonder the true British populace never stops moaning. With the lily livered politicians and authorities frightened to do anything in case they ‘offend’ someone, moaning and griping is just about all they’ve have left! It’s not rocket science! MIKE SENKER IN MY OPINION Views of a Grumpy Old Man I HAVE an Amazon account with £100 credit on it. I don’t use the UK site much as if I need anything it’s cheaper to get it delivered from Amazon.es obviously. So I contacted them, which is no easy thing. I’m going to go off at a tangent here. Why is it so difficult to speak to anyone from any large company? It’s almost impossible these days. You get offered so many different ways to contact them. The one that bugs me most is FAQ. Am I really the only person that wants to know about this problem? Then being asked did this help ... no it didn’t ‘cos you didn’t answer my question. Anyway, I did, after many attempts, get a response to my question which was can I transfer my £100 credit to Amazon.es. After all, I sign in with the same email address and password so they know it’s me. They even email me to tell me I’ve logged on to another Amazon site. The answer was no you can’t, end of. I tried to contact them again to ask why, con-

sidering the size of the company and the things they can do including have driverless cars, but I got no further response. Surely it’s not rocket science to let me use my 100 quid on any Amazon site I’m on. I was very pleased that my daughter, Dr S, came to visit for a couple of weeks. When I collected her from the airport there was no cuddle and we both sat in the car with our masks on and for five or six days she didn’t even give her daddy a kiss. We had a fabulous couple of weeks and when she went home on Saturday, Mrs S made her a packed lunch as we were not sure if there would be food available at the airport or on the plane. In her lunch pack was a metal fork and there was a long discussion on the security implications and how would she eat it if they confiscated the ‘weapon.’ Anyway she boarded and sent us a text that no-one at security was interested in her fork, but they did make her take off her sandals and I’m talking about wafer thin almost flip floppy type of things and x-ray them. Nice to see that airport security hasn’t lost its priorities. I could understand if they were crocs. Anybody wearing them should be arrested immediately!

OUR VIEW Social U-turn

THE health crisis has brought with it many different and magnified social changes. As it began and we all faced a new experience of isolation. Locked in our houses away from the world and any chance of infection. During this time neighbours reached out to each other by congregating on their balconies at night to clap the efforts of the health service, groups were created to deliver food to the homeless or helpless and positive actions sprung from a great fear restoring some people’s faith in mankind. We were all desperate to get out of our confines. What happened? Over the last month, this has deteriorated. Upon our release from captivity, things have descended into worldwide mania. Rioting, murders, economic collapse and a U-turn into negativity. Facebook and Twitter are full of personal attacks and arguments with people who are really not educated enough in how to handle medical, human rights or economic matters. Sure, we can all have an opinion but if we know that we ourselves do not know all the facts, shouldn’t we allow others to have theirs too. The world is turning ugly. People are beginning to retreat back to their houses, why? If they are to leave their houses they are to follow certain restrictions that make them uncomfortable, like wearing a mask, standing in queues two metres apart or not being able to enjoy other people’s company. Maybe they will be caught in a riot, maybe somebody else will not be following health measures making them feel threatened. Is there a happy medium? Should people be allowed to make their own choices? The wearing of face masks is such an all-consuming topic just now but nobody has the power to challenge the government’s decision on the mandatory measures concerning these. WHO is sitting on the fence, even though their official statement shows that these masks can be more dangerous for certain members of the public. The main thing we need to focus on is that we cannot get through this crisis alone. Together we are stronger. Tearing each other apart will not get us any further forward. A time of global weakness is not the time to tackle all the world’s problems at once. Remember, divided we stand, together we fall.

DEAR Euro Weekly, This most unfortunate tale started on Wednesday morning at about 09.15 when I rushed into Ferreteria Lopez on Mojacar beach for some urgent (it always is) plumbing stuff. I was then confronted by a gent who, rightfully, but very gruffly, asked me ‘where is your face mask,’ which I had, in the rush, completely forgotten to wear, although it sits ready to use, on my car’s passenger seat. ‘I forgot’ I replied, which was then met with a stream of verbal abuse, followed by, it beggars belief, physically attacking me with a one-inch connector hose that he grabbed from the nearby display, all the while proclaiming he was ‘English.’ I raised my arm in defence, took two steps back, in trying to defuse the situation. Beyond belief DEAR Euro Weekly, I live with a person (platonic) who is a Cuban transexual, born a man and known as Samanta she had her unemployment benefit stopped as her passport is out of date. Before she could renew, as not many unemployed have €215 to stay as a man or over €400 to change sex lying about, she suffered a serious life-threatening stroke culminating in three months in hospital. She has been home nine days and is wheelchair-bound, needs constant care and is now being refused both benefit and Cruz Roja food parcels as her padrón are out of date. Add to this my incredible story of unemployment and lack of benefits, it is clear to me Spain is ignoring both European law and human rights. I am disgusted beyond belief at the treatment she has had but how can you send someone home with no medicine, no food or money in the house and not knowing if there was even anyone to help with basic needs, never mind a professional carer which she now gets for one hour a day Monday to Friday. Cases Keep Climbing Spain Releases Latest Coronavirus Figures I personally thought when the Covid-19 virus was announced back in March and we were all told it had a 14-day incubation period it seemed the obvious thing to do would have been to make absolutely everyone with no exceptions go into a 21day complete lockdown and have military deliver food parcels utilising high safety standards and keeping streets clear and allowing no travel including flights, this way the virus would have burnt itself out, obviously this would only work if neighbouring countries followed suit too and it wouldn’t have gone on for so many months.

It's not what it looks like I have anxiety MS BIPOLAR UP AND DOWN WITH BALANCE UNEDITED I WANT others to know that there are many ways people like me cope in order to function on a daily basis. “Can you pull over by here please?” I ask the taxi driver. “Are you sure?” he replies, “because I can drop you at the door?” “No, by here is fine.” I tell him. I pay him and exit the car as quickly as possible, looking around to make sure nobody has seen me. This was me on a daily basis last year, getting the taxi driver to drop me at the side of my workplace building, instead of at the front. The journey to work used to be a trigger for me which would create panic attacks. I was basically going to work to pay for the taxi rides as I just couldn’t face waiting for the bus! It wasn’t something I wanted to do, but it was something I had to do in order to help me be able to work while having a mental health issue, and I used to go without other luxuries to be able to finance it I am not ashamed of my anxiety; in general I’m fairly open about my mental

health issues, but only to people who either have a reason to know or who I can trust. Each morning is a struggle. It’s as if anxiety wakes before me and waits, so that when I open my eyes it’s already there punching me in the stomach. I have to psych myself up to get out of bed, psych myself up to get washed and dressed, to make breakfast and pack my lunch. I keep having to stop to wipe tears and practise deep breathing through the nausea some mornings. All the stopping I have to do to psych myself up is so time-consuming. I want others to know that there are many ways people like me cope with our stresses and anxieties in order to function and hold down jobs or simply just try and get through the day. I fully accept that doing these things may seem a bit odd or unusual when no explanation accompanies them, but through doing these things it allows people like myself to live a relatively normal life. None of us owe an explanation about why we do these things as we are entitled to our privacy, but if you see people doing some of the things that you may think are odd they may have a mental illness. We are doing what we have to do in order to be able to function with our illnesses while working and living. What do you do to cope with anxiety? MOSQUITO bites are synonymous with the warmer weather, and while most bites are harmless, some can cause complications. Mosquitoes can carry diseases, although the likelihood of being infected depends largely on where you live. Another rare problem caused by a mosquito bite is a negative reaction to the bite itself. If you are bitten and develop hives, difficulty breathing, or a swollen throat, contact a doctor immediately. You may not notice when a mosquito bites you, but the bump the bite leaves behind comes with a persistent itch that can linger for days. Creams and ointments can help, but you can also beat the itch with things that are probably already lying around your house. Oats are one remedy. They can relieve itching and swelling because they contain special compounds that have anti-irritant qualities. Make a paste by mixing equal amounts of oats and water in a bowl until you have a spackle-like

substance. Spoon some paste onto a washcloth and hold it, paste side down, on the irritated skin for about 10 minutes. Then wipe the area clean. Cold temperatures and ice can reduce inflammation and numb the skin. Don’t leave the ice directly on your bite for more than five minutes as it can damage the skin. Honey has many antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. A small drop on an itchy bite can reduce the inflammation. Aloe vera gel has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and can help to heal minor wounds or calm infections. That’s why it may be a good bet for healing a bug bite, too.

Rock against Cancer IT was in 2009 that the Rock Against Cancer Festival was founded and took place annually at the Eres de la Sal in Torrevieja with 10 bands due to play in June 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was postponed until September, but as it is now not possible to produce an open-air festival of this type until the beginning of October at the earliest, the organisers have had to cancel the event this year. Tickets already purchased will be valid for the 2021 event, dates to be announced later this year.

IT is difficult to know for certain that any concert will proceed, but those starved of rock music would do well to put November 21 into the diaries as it is planned that Spanish tribute act Unrisen Queen will perform at the Capitol Theatre in Rojales. It is claimed that their singer sounds just like Freddie Mercury and although they don’t try to look like the original band, their sound and performance has seen them play around Europe including special Queen celebrations. What’s more, Ghibli Hybrid will retain the unmistakable sound that has always distinguished every Maserati. Ghibli Hybrid is immediately recognisable, on the exterior, it introduces new stylistic contents, starting from the front grille, with bars redesigned to represent a tuning fork, a musical device that emits a sound of extreme purity, and which also evokes the Trident symbol itself. There are significant changes at the rear of the car, where the light clus-

ters have been completely restyled, with a boomerang-like profile inspired by the 3200 GT. In perfect harmony with its DNA, Maserati has chosen a hybrid solution focused primarily on improving performance, while also reducing fuel consumption and cutting emissions. The hybrid technology exploits kinetic energy the car accumulates when in motion, recovering it and transforming it into electricity during deceleration and braking, and storing

it in a battery. The innovative powertrain combines an internal combustion engine (four cylinders, turbo, displacement of 2.0 l) with a 48volt alternator and an additional electric supercharger supported by a battery. This solution is unique in its segment, and is the first in a new generation of powertrains, with the perfect trade-off between performance, efficiency and driving pleasure.

The battery is mounted in the rear of the car, with benefits in terms of improved weight distribution.
