OVER AND OUT OUT AFTER almost 100 days in the S t a t e o f A l a r m , m o n t h s o f f e a r, uncertainty and confinement across Spain have come to an end and the Costas have reawakened with a new energy and determination to build a better new normal. After such a long period of inactivity, flights are landing in Spain without quarantine, there’s movement across borders and provinces, children can play in parks and the economy can start to get back on its feet. There has never been a more crucial time to take the bull by the horns and MAKE the future happen. The global pandemic thrust the country into an unprecedented era that has hit the Costas hard, but now they are braced and ready to welcome locals and tourists alike. The regions are awash with excellent restaurants, bars and cafes offering a typically friendly Spanish service. And local shops and businesses will now be relying on us to help them rebuild and stay afloat, hoping that

money that wasn’t spent during shut down will rejuvinate trade. The sun, sea and sand have already seen thousands return to the region’s world-famous beaches which have reopened, with necessary safety measures of course, and there’s an umistakable positive vibe as the wheels of tourism begin to move again. Councils across the Costas are investing heavily in promoting their well-publicised and hidden treasures, keen to draw holidaymakers back to where they should be, while at the same time budgeting millions to help the industry along the way. As Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, said in his pre-end of State of Alarm speech: “Now it’s time for recovery, laying the foundation for a new economy. There is another lasting tribute we can pay to those who have been on the front lines and to those we have lost: to put this country back on its feet.” NEW NORM: Beaches are now open.

WE did it. We followed the instructions of our President, Pedro Sanchez, regardless of our political inclinations and by doing what we should we went from being one of the world’s most dangerous countries to one of the safest. Regardless of nationality, we came together and did everything asked of us, living for 98 days in a world that only weeks before we didn’t know existed. We closed our businesses, locked up our children, shielded our elderly and vulnerable, facing a frightening world of social distancing with remarkable dignity in our masks and gloves. Each night at 8pm we applauded those keeping us safe and we formed amazing self-sacrificing groups who cooked, baked, shopped and delivered for others with no thought for themselves. We showed tolerance and compassion as we queued for anything and everything and if we worried about our families’ health, finances and futures, we

worried in silence. As businesspeople we, too, suffered financially but as an essential business we had to continue despite high overheads and little income. Now, after 98 days, the State of Alarm has been lifted and our lifeline to businesses along the coasts of Spain has been restored. “Welcome, we have missed you, and we need you,” we say to returning visitors because we might not be tourist-based but our clients are. We, too want a busy landscape of bars, restaurants, beaches and hotels where visitors receive the best service they have ever had. We want them to buy properties, bring their skill sets here and their families. We want them to rebook in August and October and to come back at Christmas. More than anything else we want our wonderful business community to stop suffering. We don’t want to see any more closures, just busy and contented owners who are being rewarded

for their patience and dedication in preventing Covid-19 from robbing more lives while their own were put on hold. As a business community we have weathered recessions, but nothing like that of 2008 and no sooner did we emerge than we were confronted first by Brexit and then by Covid-19. Life will never be the same again, but we are convinced that doesn’t mean this year can’t be turned around. It will be hard and worrying at times, but we are made of tough stuff, us expats, and as pioneers and entrepreneurs we know we shall get through. Good luck to every single business-owner out there: we wish you every success in the New Now. And we are sure that by the end of the year we will be toasting together, celebrating because we all made it through. Good luck, everyone, and remember: we WILL do this!

A F E R O C I O U S w i l d f i re ripped through the Sierra Cabrera mountains on Sunday June 21, burning through 180 hectares before firefighters had the fast-moving blaze under control by midday on Monday. The fire broke out early Sunday afternoon. Initial reports said it started in the Llanos de Anton zone of Carboneras, but later reports said the origin was in El Moro in Mojacar. By night-time the flames had raced through easily burning terrain in Mojacar and Turre. The Andalucia Infoca wildfire prevention service reported that five planes and seven helicopters were battling to put out the blaze alongside teams of forest firefighters. The steep terrain made it

There were no reports anyone was hurt in the fire or of damage to property, but two families were evacuated from their homes as a precaution. Joining forces ALMERIA Council has joined forces with the hotel trade to promote the city and the rest of the province as a safe holiday destination in the new normality . Almeria mayor Ramon Fernandez-Pacheco has signed an agreement with 14 hotels so they can acquire the ‘Safe Tourism Certified’ stamp, the city administration paying the €18,000 cost. Issued by the Spanish Tourism Ministry and Spain’s Tourism Quality Institute, the stamp initiative is aimed at ‘generating confidence’ among the public, distinguishing hotels which have implemented the Health Risk Prevention System, the mayor explained. “In normal times we have to support it, but now we should do so even more because many jobs are at risk and they need everyone to do their bit.” The city council head encouraged “anyone planning their holidays to look at Almeria, because here they are going to find what they need to enjoy the summer.”

Active tourism angle THE provincial government is using active tourism as an angle to promote the attractions of Costa Almeria to the provincial and neighbouring national markets in the new normal. The Diputacion’s ‘Programa Promo’ includes this year’s circuit of 53 walks and hikes inland and coastal areas of province. Tourism deputy Fernando Gimenez said the walks programme achieves four main objectives: “promoting physical activity, promoting and strengthening the province’s points of interest, fighting depopulation and promoting the province’s network of walks.”

Residency registration RESIDENCY registration has gone online in Cuevas del Almanzora. As from this week residents of the municipality have the option of sorting out the administrative procedures for getting their residency certificate, or ‘padron,’ through the local council’s virtual office and without having to go to municipal offices. “The council wants to put at the disposition of residents all kinds of assistance for carrying out the most common procedures, as is the case with the residency certificates, which from now on can be obtained by telematics and completely free,” commented Cuevas Finance councillor Maria Isabel Alarcon. Street facelifts CUEVAS DEL ALMANZORA Council is ploughing on with works to give streets in the town a facelift. Calle San Agustin is the latest to undergo major changes as part of the Almeria provincial council 2019-2020 PFEA Rural Employment Development Programme. The works include improvements to pavements and road surfaces and the installation of new lampposts equipped with LED technology. Water and wastewater networks are also getting an overhaul, thanks to a collaboration with the Galasa water company. Similar works on Calle San San Sebastian have already been completed, and works are due to get going on Calle Observacion shortly.

EXTRA: The robot “considerably reinforces prevention mechanisms,” the mayor commented. ADRA is employing the latest technology to prevent Covid-19 infections in its care home. The municipality has presented a US robot acquired by a multi-services company, which according to the local authority is supposed to break down nearly 100 per cent of the CoV-2 virus which causes Covid-19. Adra mayor Manuel Cortes said the acquisition of the machine is “great news for Adra because it considerably reinforces the prevention mechanisms, as well as making it the first municipality in the whole of Andalucia with this technology.” The service chief of the company which has the robot re-

vealed it was worth nearly €100,000. “It will allow us to increase still further, if possible, means of protection,” Moises Valdivia maintained. The council reported the robot gives off ultraviolet light and makes it possible to eliminate nearly all the DNA of microorganisms. “In hardly two minutes, the room is completely disinfected and users can enter without having to wait a while,” a local authority statement enthused. The council also stressed that in order to guarantee safety the machine works in areas which are completely closed off and without anyone inside.

Buggy beefs up beach safety

The council’s Public Safety department said it had rented the vehicle again for the summer with the aim of making it easier for officers to carry out patrols. The municipal administration made the point

THE Andalucia High Court of Justice has confirmed a two-year prison sentence for a light-fingered Aguadulce pharmacy employee found to have pocked €56,000 in takings between January 2013 and March 2015, Spanish press reported. The court reportedly rejected the defence’s appeal based on the premise, among others, that there

ALMERIA registered the highest rate of genderbased violence murders per 100,000 inhabitants of any province in Spain between 2003 and April last year. The Domestic and Gender Violence Observatory study into the 1,000 deaths of women in Spain at the hands of their partners or ex-partners over that period reveals there were 36 cases in Almeria, or a ratio of 5.4. This compares with a national average of 2.4. Roquetas de Mar stands out as the town with a population of more than 50,000 with the worst rate in the country, with a ratio of 8.7. Of the 36 cases in Almeria, 23 involved Spanish men, while the rest were foreign nationals. The report also showed that in only seven of the cases had there been a prior report of gender violence, and court-ordered protection in just three. In 19 of the cases the perpetrator was arrested. In 10 cases the suspected killer committed suicide and seven handed themselves in.

Light-fingered were four cash tills in the pharmacy and 10 staff, raising doubts about whether it was the defendant who stole the money. The Almeria Provincial Court had

found that the employee had “made the most of the confidence placed in them by their employer” to keep the takings from unnoted sales.

The court said that on “numerous occasions” the receipts did not show all the items sold to customers and paid for in cash. Another ploy was to swipe the bar codes of products which cost less than the items customers bought. The high court found there was sufficient burden of proof, including a private detective’s report.

GUARDIA CIVIL have arrested two individuals for threatening and harassing an El Ejido farmer, even going as far as torching his greenhouses. Over a period of three months 32-year-old A E S from Vicar and 39-year-old M C from Balerma repeatedly made threatening

‘Lover boy’ arrested POLICE arrested a 56-year-old man in Macael for trying to sexually exploit at least four women after fooling them into believing he was madly in love with them. He duped the women via the inter net using what police described as the ‘lover boy’ method. He fed them all sorts of promises about getting them legal status in Spain, material comforts, marriage and a better life. But once they got together with the 56-year-old they found out it was all hogwash. One of his victims, a Colombian, told police the 56-year-old had used deception, emotional blackmail and even force to keep her

trapped at home against her will. He took away her passport and kept a complete control over everyone she had contact with. Then there came the moment when he asked her to go to a ‘swinging’ venue, where couples swap partners, in Almeria. Her refusal was met with threats before he kicked her out the house they shared. The police investigation revealed that the individual identified as B L P had put at least three other women through a similar ordeal. He now faces a series of charges, including using people for the purposes of sexual exploitation, abetting illegal immigration and coercion.

PULPI Council has parcelled out the main San Juan de los Te r re ro s b e a c h e s t o e n s u re beach-goers stick to social distancing and to prevent the risk of Covid-19 infections on the municipal coast this summer. The local authority has been using tractors on the Mar Serena, Mar Rabioda, Calypso and Cocedores beaches to mark out squares in the sand for each available space. The Pulpi administration has also brought a series of regulations into force designed to keep beach-goers safe and healthy. Aside from a two-metre social distancing rule, dogs, smoking and eating and drinking, apart from baby food, are not allowed. Any sport or game involving physical contact or getting too close to others is out. Footwear is obligatory, and children under 14 have to be accompanied by an adult. Will UK assets invite a bigger tax bill after Brexit? While Brexit itself will not affect the double tax agreements that determine which country has the right to tax expatriates, two key changes are set to happen from 2021 that may change your tax treatment. First, UK assets will no longer be EU/European Economic Area (EEA) assets. In some cases, this means they may stop receiving favourable tax treatment abroad. Second, the UK government will no longer be bound by EU freedom of movement rules for capital, giving them more scope to tax nonresidents. Even without Brexit, once you are living abroad it is sensible to review whether holding on to UK assets is still in your best interests. UK property The UK has gradually increased the tax burden on property for overseas residents. For example, after years without capital gains tax liability, ‘non-resident capital gains tax’ (NRCGT) started applying to nonUK residents selling UK residential

Has policing by consent become outdated? Political Viewpoint from Spain by DAMON MITCHELL HAVING seen the viral video of a police officer in Hackney, London on the ground being attacked by youths who don’t seem to care about any consequence, one can’t help but think that the balance between democracy and freedom are being pushed to the limits in the UK. Policing by consent and not by force is the philosophy by which the UK has always tried to uphold the law. However, as pointed out by our man in the know when it comes to Spanish politics and rights, Jose Maria Rodrigo “The public respect towards the police in the last couple of weeks is shocking from a Spanish point of view and reflects a political problem which is clearly reflected in society. The Guardia Civil is per haps the most versatile of the three as they will take the role of Local Police in the villages and back up the National Police when needed in riots. Everybody in Spain has been able to see how these forces’ no nonsense attitude to policing has guaranteed a lockdown which has seen excellent results, making residents feel safe. Company Reducing carbon emissions faked likes FACEBOOK has announced that it has not only banned the Madrid­based MGP25 Cyberint Services for placing likes on Instagram accounts for profit but will also be taking action against the company. It believes that the company created a special computer tool to gen­ erate likes in order to boost interest in the clients it represented. A spokesperson for Facebook said “The defendant’s service was designed to evade Instagram’s restrictions against fake engagement by mimicking the Instagram official app in the way that it connected to our systems.”

THE John Lewis Partnership, which owns department stores and Wait­ rose supermarkets in the UK has an­ nounced that it is stepping up its commitment to reducing carbon emissions by building a dedicated biomethane gas filling station. This will enable its largest heavy goods vehicles to use a low­carbon alternative to diesel and in addition, it plans to stop using fossil fuels across its entire 4,800 strong trans­ port fleet by 2030. The new biomethane gas filling station will be built in conjunction with Air Liquide and will open at the

Partnership’s head office in Bracknell in December 2020, making it the business’s first on­site gas filling sta­ tion. It will facilitate the conversion of the Bracknell Waitrose fleet to biomethane and complement gas filling stations already in use near to John Lewis and Waitrose regional distribution centres in Leyland, Lan­ cashire, and in Northampton. Serving some 120 Waitrose heavy goods vehicles, the lorries will run on biomethane made from food waste and food processing waste materials rather than diesel which will reduce CO2 emissions by 80 per cent.

Over the next seven years, it is es­ timated the Bracknell site alone will save over 70,000 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to the carbon footprint produced by over 13,000 UK house­ holds. Another addition will be the introduction of 1,750 electric vans alongside 750 refrigerated trailers converted from diesel to electric dri­ ve. In addition, the Partnership’s 1,300 strong car fleet will become 100 per cent electric and any remain­ ing vehicles that could not be con­ verted to biomethane or electric will use hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) biodiesel.

It will all be too late

AS you read this, thousands of black men, women and children are being slaughtered and enslaved in Nigeria. Black genocide is still a daily occurrence in many parts of the world and black youngsters are being killed on our streets in ever increasing numbers. All in all it is an appalling and utterly tragic situation. But why are we seeing no demonstrations concerning these issues? Where are all the marchers and BLM protests? What’s happened to all the black leaders appearing in the media, decrying the situation and urging governments to ‘do something’? Personally I only discovered most of these facts with research. So can anyone please enlighten me why it is that black lives only appear to really matter when members of the white community are involved? It simply doesn’t make sense; unless there is some ulterior motive afoot! Ah well, only time and tide will answer that question. What is more worrying is the amount of air time the main stream media gives to those who support these ‘causes.’ On the social media, over the last few weeks, numerous, often extremely articulate members of the black commu-

Intelligent black and ethnic men and women of all ages have been putting forward strong arguments as to why they actually don’t feel oppressed at all and affirming that all opportunities are there for both black and white, with many praising the system and the societies that have made them successful. Why don’t we see

any of these people on the main stream? Why aren’t some of them given the same amount of air time that the decriers and dissenters receive? Well I’ll tell you why, the left wing media are the pawns and propaganda outlets of the money men; the true shadowy manipulators of the societies we live in. It is also the reason that large conglomerates, often inexplicably seem to have leftist

leanings. This is because left wing policies higher benefits, nationalisation etc, encourage people to rely more on the state, which in turn makes the peasants more manageable. Most of the problems that beset the general public stem from money, or the lack of it. But those who control unlimited amounts, and I’m talking billions or even trillions, have a whole different agenda. The only achievement these mega rich investors crave is power. Running the world and its citizens becomes their overriding priority. To achieve their ambitions they first need to sever the roots, lower moral and bring chaos, division and hardship to the masses. Well they are already succeeding in that. And rest assured there is a great deal more to come. All I can say is heaven help our gullible children. They are the unsuspecting, mostly unpaid, and utterly naïve army of these aspiring New World dictators. Sadly, by the time they realise, it will all be too late. Another Leapy rant? It’s all wrong in so many ways MIKE SENKER IN MY OPINION Views of a Grumpy Old Man WE are now supposedly living in the new ‘normal’ but in fact the world has now officially gone bonkers. There are demonstrations all over the world supporting Black Lives Matter which, of course, is a legitimate, worthy and correct cause. But what doesn’t do these demos any good is the looting and violence that entails by, what looks to me, like outside influence. I saw many kids smashing windows and cars with skate boards. The perpetrators were all different races, but they didn’t seem to be there except to cause havoc. Then you have Trump getting troops using tear gas and rubber bullets to wade through a perfectly peaceful demonstration so that the lunatic Donny can have a photo taken with a Bible outside a boarded up church. We also have the situation where an episode of Fawlty Towers has been removed because of racism. Little Britain removed too for its racist overtones. No mention about the mockery of a dis-

abled person in a wheelchair. Racism is a terrible thing. I am Jewish and have had to deal with it my whole life. I still have an anti-Semitic neighbour that will make some remark every time our paths cross. A reference to ‘you lot’ or calling me a ‘4 by 2’ or a mention of camps. If you are going to get rid of racist stuff in the arts, you must get rid of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice because of the Shylock character. This was Hitler’s favourite play and was played on the radio two nights after Kristallnacht in 1938 to show how bad Jews were. Let’s not forget Charles Dickens. We have to get rid of Oliver Twist with Fagin portrayed as a thieving Jew. That’s racist isn’t it? Othello was played by Orson Welles with a black face. Let’s ban that too. And of course there are both versions of the Jazz Singer. The original has Al Jolson using black make up and the remake with Neil Diamond and his black face. The diabolical performance by Lord Laurence Olivier with his prosthetic nose and ridiculous accent. All wrong in so many ways. Of course, I don’t actually think any of this should be banned at all. I’m just trying to make a point. It never offended me. I watched it all and that’s where it ended. Even my anti-Semitic neighbour I just dismiss as an ignorant twunt.

Losing a family companion AROUND a month ago I had to say a very sad goodbye to my baby boy, a member of our family, my friend always at my side. It was a very difficult time anyway and added into that the current crisis, it was problematic to find a vet to do as we wanted and have his final moments with us at home after eating his favourite meal. In the end we had to take Chalkie to the clinic, both myself and my family were absolutely heartbroken as we had to say our goodbyes and choose who would be with him. For anyone that has lost a pet recently I wanted to share this poem with you.

Asleep in My Heart If I could have but one more day, We’d walk again our favourite way, Two friends together as before, But no, alas, you’re no more. No ball to throw, no bowl to fill, Your lead hangs limp, your toys lie still, No welcome home, no peaceful snore, An empty space upon the floor. If I could hold you once again, I’d kiss your head, I’d call your name, I’d whisper gently as we part… You’re safe asleep within my heart. Goodbye Baby boy.

The removal of statues of historical figures involved in the slave trade, only tells one side of the story. Black tribes, have rounded up and sold slaves from other tribes, for centuries, to Arabs, before whites became involved, so black people should take some of the blame for this deplorable exploitation of their own people. OUR VIEW The bigger picture DURING the Covid isolation period in Spain it was very, very rare to see homeless people on the street any longer. You would get to see the same old faces in doorways or outside supermarkets but they disappeared. When I eventually did see one, I was walking home from work as I am classed as an essential worker, there were two known homeless men and the police passed by without giving them a second glance. These men were local, they had no safety masks and am pretty sure they weren’t using hand sanitiser. What it made me think is that if there was the possibility of ridding the streets of homeless people and beggars now, during a health crisis, surely that means that the space is constantly available to shelter and provide for them. Local sports stadiums were said to be at capacity from sheltering them and various ordinary homeless shelters. Now, most of these people survive on handouts from the public and during the pandemic, there was also no public in the streets, no holidaymakers. How did they manage? I did fear that they would be an easy target for the virus and also that it sadly may kill a huge number of them off. However, I am happy to say that since the virus has begun to disappear, those faces have reappeared. A friend, I suppose you could call him, Jose Luis, survived through the virus, sleeping in the streets with nobody to collect coppers from, he had not been able to get a space in the local stadium. In talking to him recently it did bring up the point that if the government can provide them with basic food and the means to stay alive and shelter during a crisis, why can they not do this any other time when these people are suffering, ill and dying? Is it something that will change because of this realisation? Let’s hope so.

Fat people are Lazy!

HOW DARE YOU! Hear me out! I am a woman who has been all sizes from eight to

18. I’ve done every diet in the world, I’ve gone from killing myself in the gym five days a week to sitting on my ass eating a multi pack of crisps without even breathing, so I feel I have a bloody right to type this and I warmly welcome your views. I see and hear it daily on social media, on the TV and in magazines. You know the type of magazines I’m talking about, the ones that out celebrities for their cellulite or comment on how they have gained a pound in the last year. Yep! They’re the ones! So, are fat people lazy? There is no one answer that fits all here. I can tell you from a personal view, that I am currently sat at my desk with a cup of coffee, typing this, wearing shorts that must have

shrunk in the wash due to the lockdown chub, contemplating whether to undo the top button so I am able to breathe easier. Yes, I’m fat... AGAIN! Last year I was in control. I ate clean, didn’t skip meals, drank plenty of water and trained... HARD. I was at my strongest, fittest and boy, it felt good. Everyone commented how good I looked and I walked around with a proud strut. After 43 years, I’d finally cracked it and there was no going back. Christmas came and so did the parties. No problem I told myself. I still have to live life and enjoy it. Enjoy it I did! I went to Liverpool and Manchester to celebrate my beautiful friend’s 40th, family visited, drinks were flowing, as were the snacks. Our last guests left just after the Three Kings and by then bad habits had kicked back in. I told myself I’d start back in the gym on Monday, but one Monday turned into the next Monday and the next until BOOM Lockdown! I’d told myself I’d

been too busy and not to worry too much as I’ll be fine. With lockdown in place, we couldn’t leave the house unless we went shopping so what was there to do? EAT AND DRINK! I’d pour myself a glass of wine every night with my dinner and started picking at crap food. Crisps, sandwiches, cheese. You name it, I was eating it. My work transferred to online so I ate whilst I worked. Was I being lazy? In some places YES! I wasn’t exercising (I have weights and punch bags at home), I cooked quick and easy meals and it was easier to grab something out of the fridge than preparing a healthy meal so, yes I was being lazy. On the other hand, I was extremely busy. Lockdown was a struggle for many therefore; my clients list had dramatically increased. I was working longer hours, helping those who were suffering, I was home schooling my son and my time was limit-

ed. Something had to give and unfortunately it was all too easy to give up the exercise and the thought of prepping food for hours on end and counting calories. Three days ago, I stood on the scales and cried. The two stone I had lost last year was back on and it was joined by a further 7lb. I’m currently the biggest I have ever been. Nothing fits and the chub rub has started. I could let this screw with my head for weeks on end and go back to a dark place OR I can get off my fat butt and do something about it. I choose the latter! So, in a nutshell, are fat people lazy? The answer is, WHO GIVES A S*** what others think! DO YOU! Yes I’m a lazy cook and yes I have to force myself to exercise but am I lazy as a whole? HELL NO! I’ve had fun, I’ve enjoyed the bad food but now I draw the line but with no pressure. I’ll do me, my way and will find that balance that I need. I hope you do too.

Knowing Right From Wrong With Bipolar Disorder Is a bipolar person conscious about what is right and wrong at the time they do something wrong? THE answer is a YES and NO… depends on the person, and how severely ill they might have been at the time the behaviour happened. For many of us living with bipolar disorder we can experience psychotic episodes at some point during our illness. Psychosis involves loss of touch with reality. So during that time, someone with bipolar disorder may be acting under the hallucinations or delusions. Under these circumstances, we aren’t aware of our actions. Bad sleeping patterns or insomnia, is a common problem for people with bipolar disord e r. S l e e p i s e x tremely important, and sleep disturbance most often triggers m o o d episodes. I monitor my sleeping, and over the years h a v e learned that on my third night of disruptive sleep or lack of sleep I should start to worry and also mention it to a family member. Its also important to distinguish what kind of sleeping problem you are having, is it trying to fall asleep but unable to ? or is it that feeling of ‘not needing to sleep,’ or is it just feeling tired constantly… That feeling of tiredness is usually linked to the depressive side of bipolar whereas the not need-

ing to sleep can be linked to the mania side. When manic, your sense of boundaries are screwed. That filter that most people use and have in place no longer exists. You can come across as rude or harsh. Also during the mania ,I also don’t fully remember how down I feel during the depressive times, which can be hard for your loved ones to know where exactly you are in your cycle. One day you’re full of life and the next you can be down in the dumps. However being bipolar should not be a get-out-of-jail-free card. We usually manage to hide the worst side of ourselves f r o m people t h a t d o n ’ t t r u l y know us, as we tend to be on ‘ e d g e ’ and only feel comfortable and safe around people that do know the REAL us, so we do have a degree of control over our actions and behaviour, however we don’t often know right from wrong in that split moment, usually when everything settles down we can see reason. PRESSURE DROP: Keep a light touch and hold back on pushing too hard. FOR some women, shaving irritation is a big problem meaning that they can only shave every other day. A safety razor is the best thing for achieving a smooth shave. Two important points for shaving are that it is essential to avoid using soap and never try to shave with dry skin. With the right amount of pressure, you can have an irritation-free experience without having to shave a couple of times. Hair grows in all directions so, remember, you don’t always have to shave upwards, try shaving in different directions.

Some plastic razors will not allow you to shave with the grain in the same direction as your hair is growing. You will find that with a proper safety razor, you don’t have to shave over the area again and again. The main cause of irritation is too much pressure between the razor and your skin. Keep a light touch and hold back on the pressure over areas like shins, kneecaps, and ankles to avoid cuts. Angle your razor at about 30 degrees from your skin and hold your skin taught with one hand as you shave.

THE UK will switch to Apple and Google technology for its Covid-19 test-and-trace app, its home-grown system was not working well enough on Apple’s iPhone. The test and trace programme is reportedly key to reopening the country but has been dogged by problems. The app developed by the National Health Service (NHS) was initially expected to be rolled out nationwide in May but did not materialise. Dido Harding, head of the test-and-trace programme, and Matthew Gould, chief executive of the health service’s technology unit NHSX said “We have agreed to share our own innovative work ... with Google and Apple, while using their solution to address some of the specific technical
