READY TO OPEN?: Store floors marked for social distancing. DESPITE Spain’s slow but steady progress in de-escalating out of the coronavirus health crisis, there is still a lot of confusion felt by residents in confinement about what rules apply, where they apply and to whom they apply. Thankfully measures are beginning to relax however, finding out which measures apply in which stage has been a headache for many. Firstly, the government said it would only de-escalate by provinces, and this has been the case in Andalucia, however, in other areas of the nation provinces have been allowed to deescalate by sanitary districts. Why has the entirety of Malaga, which only has one sanitary district that does not comply with Phase 1 criteria, been forced to remain in Phase 0? Instead, territories in Valencia and Alicante with a higher incidence of the virus have been allowed to de-escalate separately. Not only this, but the constant backtracking on

rules and regulations has also proven confusing, to say the least. Initially, the new driving regulations were only applicable to residents in Phase 1, now they apply to Phase 0 as well. At one point, bars and restaurants were only allowed to open their terraces to accommodate 30 per cent of usual customers, after facing backlash they changed this to 50 per cent. Similarly, going to a residence in the same province was only allowed in Phase 2, after facing controversy

this has been amended to Phase 1. It begs the question, how are these regulations being created and enforced? How much backlash must a regulation face before being adapted? What is the final say? These are important questions that business owners and customers must know the answers to if they plan on contributing to the economy and re-activating the notion of ‘new normality.’

Clearing Up Confusion TO make things a little simpler during this complicated time, we have developed an easy to read guide about what you can and can’t do during your deescalation phase: Can I travel to go and see my family or friends? No, if you are in Phase 0 you are not allowed to visit friends or family at their homes. Yes, if you are in Phase 1, you are permitted to hold small social gatherings of up to 10 people, but this must be within the same province. You are not allowed to travel outside of your province to visit anyone. Can I go to the bar/restaurant? No, if you are in Phase 0, bars and restaurants will remain closed to the public, however, you can go and pick up food to take away and eat at home. Yes, if you are in Phase 1, then bars and restaurants with open terraces will be open but at a limited capacity and correct hygiene measures should be abided to. Can I go to the hairdressers? Yes, no matter what phase you are in, businesses which take prior appointments will be open, all you need to do is book in advance.

EXERCISE: Is permitted in bothphases but at regulated times. Can I go to church or my place of worship? No if you are in Phase 0 this will be

closed. Yes, if you are in Phase 1. Can I travel in the car with my family?

Individuals in both Phase 0 and Phase 1 are now allowed to travel with members of their household in the same private vehicle, without using masks and occupying all seats available. However, if you are travelling with a non-household member you must wear a face mask and respect the maximum distance between passengers. Can I go out to do exercise? Yes, in both phases exercise is allowed, however, you must abide to your designated time slot. Children under the age of 14 (accompanied by an adult): From 12.00pm to 7.00pm Individuals over the age of 70: From 10.00am to 12.00pm and from 7.00pm to 8.00pm Individuals over 14 but under 70: From 6.00am to 10.00am and from 8.00pm to 11.00pm Can I take my children out? Yes, in both phases, either to accompany you to do activities permissible under your phase or during the designated exercise hours. When taking your child out for exercise this must be done by a single parent and only a maximum of three children can go out under the supervision of one parent.

Red Cross appeal MOJACAR Red Cross has appealed for financial contributions and donations of food, household, and sanitary goods to help families hit hard by the coronavirus crisis. A good number of shops, businesses and local residents, have in close collaboration with Mojacar Council and Social Services,

already stepped up with donations of products for Mojacar Red Cross deliveries to vulnerable families. Anyone interested in doing their bit should contact the Red Cross by phone or drop into their premises between 10am and 1pm.

There are still limitations. Social distancing is very much an obligation, strict health measures have to be followed and not all businesses and establishments which could open have done so, not least because of imposed maximums on customer capacity.

Expats welcome extra freedom

OPEN AGAIN: Bars, restaurants, cafes, hotels and other small businesses are starting the move towards a ‘new normality.’ But after nearly two months of lockdown, the changes under Phase one are widely seen as a positive advance, and a good

number of expat residents were clearly keen to get out and about. Back home from a lunch out in a popular Mojacar

dinery, one expat reported on local forums she had thoroughly enjoyed her meal out and commented on the staff’s strict adher-

ence to recommended health and safety practices: wearing gloves and face visors and sanitising tables and chairs as soon as they were vacated. Another echoed her impressions after coffee in another Mojacar cafe. “All is good, staff disinfect tables before serving you. Tables spaced well apart, not too many people here,” she said. There is also a strong feeling among some expats on showing support for local businesses which have reopened their doors. “ We h a v e t o s u p p o r t them or they will have to close again!” commented one. “ We w i l l d e f i n i t e l y b e calling into different bars/ restaurants for a coffee/ food/drink today and going forwards to support them as we don’t want to lose them,” promised another.

PAWS donations appeal Action on mosquitos THE PAWS-PATAS animal charity has put out a desperate appeal for donations for its fundraising outlets as they get ready to reopen under the first phase of the coronavirus crisis lockdown de-escalation. “We are in dire need of items like clothes, bric-a-brac, shoes, accessories, bedding, books and toys so that we have a great choice when we can finally open the outlets,” the charity’s PR and fundraising coordinator Chrissie Cremore told the Euro Weekly News. The State of Alarm means that since mid-March the PAWS-PATAS shops have had to remain closed and organising fundraising events has been impossible, leading to what the charity estimates is a €15,200 loss in vital income. “The generosity of people and supporters with individual motivations has raised a total of €4,212. But we need at least €9,500 each month in order to keep the ‘wheels turning’ at the shelter,” Chrissie explained. Donated items can now be deposited at the Mojacar and Las Buganvillas PAWS-PATAS outlets from Monday to Friday between 11am and 1pm and in Turre at the same time on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. All clothes items will be washed and sanitised before put out on display.

HEAVY rains in recent months followed by exceptionally high temperatures for the time of year have provided the perfect conditions for the proliferation of mosquitos on the Costa Almeria, prompting local councils to take battle action against the pesky insects. The Mojacar, Pulpi and Vera adminis-

trations have all been carrying out fumigations to try and prevent mosquito plagues. One of the key areas in Mojacar getting the fumigation treatment was Rio Abajo, which every year is the municipality’s principal focal point for the insects.

A DANGEROUS fugitive from British justice is under arrest after he was tracked down in Albox. Guardia Civil detained the man, identified as LWJ, following the launch of an investigation when he made off from his usual place of residence in Puerto Lumbreras over the border in Murcia. The Guardia said the suspect had got away by clambering over rooftops when he realised he’d been discovered. According to the Guardia the British authorities are after LWJ for a series of robberies and there was a European arrest warrant hanging over his head. They also said that several of his Puerto Lumbreras neighbours had warned officers LWJ had an extremely violent character and could be carrying firearms. The investigations into the fugitive’s whereabouts led to the outskirts of Paraje Ventarique in Albox a few days later.

Bird in a tangle able to fly free A CORMORANT was left in a right tangle on a Mojacar beach after it got caught up in an abandoned fishing net. Fortunately for the bird,

volunteers from the Equinac marine life rescue association went to its rescue. Guardia Civil officers on patrol in the Macenas area also lent give a hand after spotting the three volunteers trying to free the cormorant, which was completely caught up in the net. Taking great care not to harm the creature, with careful snipping, little-by-little they managed to cut the strings and knots around its wings and its feet and it was able to fly off.

carrying small amounts of drugs during checks at a movement restrictions compliance control point. Investigations into the drugs’ source pointed to a smallscale set-up in Palomares. A search of the premises resulted in the seizure of 73 grammes of hash, but also to six Mora tortoises of various sizes. The Andalucia Catalogue of Threatened Species classifies the Mora tortoise as ‘in danger of extinction.’ The 45-year-old, identified as MTT, now faces charges for crimes against public health, trafficking of a protected species and serious disobedience of the State of Alarm regulations.

Arrest at last POLICE have at last made an arrest for a robbery in Almeria City on Christmas Eve. Investigators have detained 25-year-old AA on suspicion of breaking into an establishment in the Avenida Cabo de Gata. The thief had used stones to smash a window and yanked out a wooden board which had been covering it up to get it. The robber really did a job on the place, getting away with 30 hookah pipes, 10 speakers, two computers and the cash register, among other items. Exhaustive investigations eventually led the police to identity the 25-year-old as responsible, and this week he was located and cuffed.

Sharp rise in jobless figures THE ongoing coronavirus crisis has led to another sharp rise in people without a job in Almeria. The number of unemployed went up by 4,637 in April, representing a 7.16 per cent rise. In just two months there has been an increase of more than 13,300 in the provincial jobless total. As it stands, 69,433 people in Almeria are registered as out of work at SEPE State Employment Public State offices, This is 12,635 more than in the same month last year, or a massive 22.25 per cent higher.

THE Spanish company Vuelea has launched an app aiming to connect private pilots and passengers in order to ‘planepool’ and share rides. The app expects to begin offering its services by July 15. This new trend in a collaborative economy has been a staple of the 21st century, as sharing cars, houses, office spaces and now planes has become a new and recurring theme.

Translating this theme into the world of private flying has been the objective of the Spanish company Vuelea, the first platform of its kind in the nation. This app aims to connect private pilots, who have free seats in their planes, with passengers wanting to travel to the same destination. This app has come at an especially timely moment in the trajectory of society, as there is an increasingly large fear

More Waves Are Coming SPAIN’S army is predicting two more waves of coronavirus outbreaks in the country. Their report said that it would take between 12 and 18 months for Spain to return to “normality.” The timings would also depend on when a vaccine is developed and administered. Army experts have produced some sombre reading for politicians and the country’s population. “There will be a second wave of Covid-19 in the autumn or winter,” the report said. “It will be less serious than the initial outbreak due to higher immunity in the population and better preparations.” Their analysis also said that a third wave could happen next year, but the

Killer Hornets A 54-YEAR-OLD man lost his life on Sunday (May 10) in Santiago - in northwest Spain’s Galicia region, as a result of the sting of a giant Asian hornet, after discovering that there was a nest next to the hives that he looked after which were located very close to his home. Paramedics were quick to respond to the scene in Villestro but sadly the man was dead when they got there, the man’s friend, a fellow beekeeper, had called the emergency services when he found his friend on the floor close to a hive.

Cover up DRUG FARM: Marihuana buds were found hanging from the ceiling. A SHADY drug dealer and her partner were arrested for covering up her mother’s death. Their lie was discovered by the emergency services that were called while ‘supposedly’ taking the mother for a walk in her wheelchair. The daughter told paramedics that her mother fell ill during the walk; it didn’t take long for them to discover that she had been dead longer. The

couple’s suspicious behaviour raised alarm when the paramedics tried to perform CPR, which led them to alert the police. The National Police carried out a search of their home in Granada to check for any foul play, instead discovering that it was a large-scale drug farm, with accessories of a drug business. They found ‘142 dry marihuana buds hanging from the ceiling,

as well as two rooms dedicated to producing the drug.’ The couple were arrested and charged with drug-related charges. But they have been released as the police do not suspect foul play in the mother’s death. Water Safety THE Spanish National Research Council has conducted a report regarding the safety of bathing in the sea or pools during the coronavirus crisis and ruled that transmitting the virus in this environment is ‘highly unlikely.’ It warns that social distancing should be respected even when enjoying recreational activities in the water. Risk in swimming pools and spas will be less likely due to disinfecting agents which are used to avoid contamination by the influx of users and ‘should be sufficient to deactivate the virus.’ A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl died suddenly last Thursday on a street in the Malaga neighbourhood of El Palo. The events took place on May 7 on Calle Almagro y Cárdenas, behind the football field of El Palo. The emergency services received several calls about the incident. The first to arrive at the scene were Local Police officers, who asked for radio support and demanded a resuscitator. The El Palo health centre,

It should be noted that tourism represents 12 per cent of the economy in Andalucia and 13 per cent of employment. Josefina Navarro, Granada “Fina is a refugee here in Spain but has always looked out for everyone she meets. The moment we were allowed outdoor activity, she came to my home with her shopping trolley to pick up some groceries. Saloua Sfar, Mallorca “I would like to nominate Saloua Sfar who owns a small restaurant, Ma Maison, in Palma De Mallorca. She cooks and has just two staff. “Visiting the local soup kitchen, she was dismayed to learn that they didn’t have enough food and were turning people away even hungry babies. “Most are not homeless, but desperately in need, because of the pandemic. She has raised the money and is providing baby food and free meals to many, many people. “Every Christmas she raises money and enlists the help of other chefs to cook for over 500 children and provide them with gifts. “The woman has a heart of gold and deserves some sort of acknowledgement. Britain helps Spain

A CORBY (Northampton) plastics business is helping a Spanish fish company supply free food to hos­ pitals and care homes in Catalonia and Madrid by donating packag­ ing. Berry M&H has sent four pallets of 2.2­litre polypropylene jars free of charge to Pescadors de Roses, a leading supplier of fresh and frozen seafood. That company has in turn given 15 per cent of its daily production of Fish Fumet to hospitals, nursing homes and other health establish­ ments

Bitcoin devaluation EVERY four years the value of crypto currency bitcoin is halved in a deliberate effort to slow down the number of coins ‘mined.’ At the onset of the coronavirus Covid­19 pandemic the value of a single bitcoin dropped to $4,200 (€3,876) but now a few days be­ fore the devaluation, it has jumped back to just below $10,000 (€9,232). It is understood that the total number of bitcoins that can ever be mined is 21 million and the cur­ rent number in existence is 18 mil­ lion.

Interest freeze CREDIT card companies in the UK have agreed to put a freeze on interest payments for almost 700,000 card holders. In addition, lenders have done the same on personal loans for a further 470,00 customers.

Cheaper transfers MANY essential workers on the frontline in the UK have families overseas and send money to them on a regular basis. Western Union will reduce its fees by 50 per cent for two weeks for any transfer made by such workers.

Cell towers THE Vodafone Group has created a new subsidiary that will oversee its cell tower infrastructure in Spain as well as sell bandwidth. Vodafone Towers Spain will look after 9,700 towers and the new business has share capital of €439 million.

Whilst sales to bars and restaurants are obviously non­ existent, it has seen a rise in home deliveries of red wine and sangria but a drop in the sale of rosé.

Lenders return £100 million IN 2010, the newly formed Metro Bank Plc became the f i r s t n e w U K h i g h s t re e t bank to launch in 150 years and all went well at first. Even the process of grieving has changed as peop l e a r e f o rc e d t o mour n the death of a loved one in isolation. Throughout these uncertain times, Golden Leaves International has remained consistent throughout the expat community, supporting various charities and causes as people find their way through anxious and frightening times. EWN spoke to International Operations Director, Emma Quantrill, at the firm’s head office in Javea. She said: “We have been and are here throughout this health crisis, it’s important for Golden Leaves that expats know this even if people don’t have a Funeral Plan with us. “It’s a difficult time for people but we are specialists in this field, and if people just need to talk, please contact us we are here to listen and help.” Emma commented “We’ve been video calling as we have found it is far more reassuring and comforting for the community to see our faces. We d o u n d e r stand why people are ringing to make sure as it’s a worrying time and people are more anxious. “Our advice, as always, is if someone loses a friend or loved one, ring us first. As long as you have a plan with us, we will take care of everything and if not, we can give you advice and point you in the right direction.” She added: “These are unprecedented times; it can be difficult to reach out to people who are grieving because there are different stages to grief. It’s just important to let them know they are not alone.” Emma has seen a lot of change in attitudes towards death over the years, and even more so now, in the midst of the pandemic. “Death is on people’s minds now, it’s not as taboo a subject as it once was, and people are more open to talking about and planning ahead for it. “It’s important to put an End of Life plan in place, not just because of the pandemic, but also because of Brexit. “We have found that with Brexit and now the pandemic, people are understandably worried as many longstanding companies have gone into administration. I can assure everyone that we have an independent Trust Fund in place to safeguard your plan purchase against this situation occurring.”

PERSONAL IMPACT HEALTH INSURANCE Specialist, Victoria, is also hands on throughout the crisis, advising and reassuring clients and others who need assistance. While she and the rest of the team have maintained a presence throughout the State of Alarm, she says how it has affected her personally. “My life has changed a lot due to lockdown,” said Victoria. “I have a five-year-old son, He’s at home with my husband. “It’s been hard not being able to go out with my boy. It was his birthday last month and he obviously wanted to see his friends. “He has been fantastic and very understanding of this overwhelming situation. His

school did an amazing job and explained everything before it closed, and we reinforced the message at home too. In truth it’s hard for him to understand in full because he can’t physically see it.” But Emma says she feels lucky and privileged. “The confinement side of lockdown has not really had much of an impact on me. I am fortunate to be able to adapt to a situation and changes in circumstance. “We are all now in a new world and we are all doing our jobs differently and to the best of our ability. “My team and I are concentrating on helping other people who are in a much less fortunate position.”

LEAPY LEE SAYS IT OTHERS THINK IT I CANNOT personally join in the condemnation and leftie gloating over the British government’s handling of the PPE dilemma. With the growing pressure and need for more and more supplies it is plainly obvious that ministers have been searching far and wide for ways of obtaining these lifesaving pieces of equipment. After all, who would have thought that Turkey of all places would have some means of producing vast amounts of these vital medical items? A number of other countries in the world, seeing a chance of a quick profit, have turned their hand to manufacturing these supplies, is it no wonder that much of it is inferior or not fit for purpose? The most despicable country of all of course is China. With its vast manufacturing ‘robot’ manufacturing capabilities the Chinese are pouring all their efforts into churning out as much

MEDICAL SUPPLIES: Many countries are now manufacturing these. PPE and breathing equipment as possible. Millions of tons are being manufactured from their factories, many of which are springing up virtually overnight. They are hawking their products around the world and, according to reports, ‘customers’ are being given 15 minutes to make decisions on millions of

pounds worth of goods or else it gets offered to someone else! This is a disgraceful state of affairs. It’s almost a take it or leave it scenario. And what about the moral issues? The country responsible for the whole debacle is making billions from the victims of their actions. That’s like demolishing

someone’s house without their permission and charging the owners for rebuilding. What they should be doing is donating all their products free of charge. At least this would go some way to making amends for this scourge of death and misery they have released on the world. Well don’t hold your breath for that scenario; they’re too busy making sure they’re all fir mly on board before the world’s economy ‘gangplank’ plunges into the water. Five weeks ago I wrote that the ethnic areas of the UK cities weren’t taking a blind bit of notice of the gover nment’s advice for social distancing or staying indoors. Mosques were still open and some Imams were telling their followers the virus was ‘not their problem’ and was ‘Allah’s revenge on the Infidel.’ I said at the time that when they began to drop like flies, it

would be a whole different story. Well it’s happened hasn’t it? It is now being reported that those from ethnic communities have up to four times the chance of dying from the virus than their white counterparts. They actually are trying to insinuate that this disease has some kind of racist connotations! What a load of old codswallop. The only reason there are more people dying from the ethnic communities is because the majority consider themselves totally alien from the rules and regulations that govern the country they live in. End of. I do not of course include those from these communities working in the front lines. These are the givers. Unfortunately they are a very small percentage of their compatriots. UP until a month ago, we had become completely accustomed to full, constantly topped up supermarket shelves. We could get whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted it. But did we ever actually stop to consider what it took to produce food or where the constant flow came from? Food had become a commodity we no longer had to fight for, it was readily available. However, when the Coronavirus pandemic slapped the world in the face it put certain things, like the need for food, into perspective. Faced with stripped supermarket shelves, closed bakeries, coffee shops and restaurants, reality bit. Some of those in isolation were robbed of their packaged sandwich breakfast, ready meals from supermarkets and easy alternatives from the kebab shop and had to try something new, cooking from scratch, getting inventive and fending for themselves. In doing so nine out of 10 adults report that they are more aware of how much food they are wasting, and over a third of consumers are throwing out less than before the crisis struck. We are learning to value food as well as learning to value our own abilities to handle change and survive. However, we cannot allow ourselves to become complacent. When we return to normality we must carry over this new respect for food and ultimately our new respect for survival.

DEAR Euro Weekly News, The hours given to different age groups of the community is just not working. On the first day that children with a parent were allowed out it seemed like every child was out enjoying themselves, a week on, they have six hours to exercise, where have they all gone, our promenade is now deserted between the hours of 12 and 6, however b e t w e e n 6 a m a n d 1 0 a m t h e s a m e a re a s a re crowded, not only with the designated age group but also some children and very many over 70’s who obviously can’t wait until 10 am to take their exercise. T he t o wn c e nt re w a s a s b u s y a s b e f o re t h e lockdown at midday today, social distancing has d i s a p p e a re d . S h o r t m e m o r i e s ! ! Think twice Dear Euro Weekly, I booked a flight with Ryanair from Alicante to London Gatwick in March. I also booked a hotel and airport parking. I took out Ryanair insurance. The week before I was due to travel I started coughing and felt unwell. On the advice of the Spanish medical contact service, I was advised not to travel, I didn’t. I managed to cancel my hotel and airport parking without any financial loss. I contacted Ryanair insurance provider to advise them, again bef o re m y t r a v e l . N o re s p o n s e t o d a t e . I h a v e emailed them on another two occasions since. Again, no reply. Ryanair is a money-making organisation who think nothing for their customers. The flights were £124.39. Not a great sum but now, as a regular on Ryanair in the past, I would have to think twice about using them again. Regards, Trevor

Caught everyone by surprise because Elche hospitals have only registered 20 deaths and never once was anywhere near overrun… In fact Vinalopo hospital only ever had a handful of cases, and wasn't really used… Elche General had a Covid ward.

cr*p! This must be some sort of cult surely? Oh how wrong was I! The more I read, the more intrigued I was to investigate and test the water. Rhonda Byrne, Author of The Secret explains how the law of attraction is like a magnet. Whatever you think and feel, you attract. Like attracts like! Whether you’re vibrating on a high or low frequency is the primary factor determining whether you successfully manifest your dreams. Given how the Law of Attraction works, you magnetically draw (ie attract) things vibrating on the same frequency. These are things that reflect your

internal state. This means that if you work to maintain a high frequency (through positivity, love, compassion, and productivity) then you inevitably end up with more good things in your life. Adjusting to the ‘New normal’ MS BIPOLAR UP AND DOWN WITH BALANCE UNEDITED

WE hear this phrase being used quite a lot with recent events - the ‘New Normal’.’ So what is it like having bipolar and adjusting to your ‘new normal’?! Having bipolar is a game changer, but you still have the power to decide where to set your goalposts for a fulfilling future. It took a long time for me to come to terms with and accepting the fact that I have a mental illness . But lately, I have been looking beyond my bipolar. With the skills and support to manage my symptoms, I am ready to make the most of my life and my abilities. There’s an end to saying ‘I survived the day.’ Now I’m more focused on what I can do to thrive. I’m not necessarily letting go of my struggle with bipolar disorder, but I am learning to thrive inside of it... I feel more optimistic than I have in a long time. In other words, I am embracing this ‘new normal.’ Basic milestones like keeping a routine, keeping your home organised and staying in contact with friends and family can begin to feel out of reach, being physically fit and healthy. A bipolar diagnosis doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to your hopes and dreams with patience, commitment, and a plan for setting realistic goals you can achieve anything you set out to do. It might take a little longer, and you might need some motivation to get there.

Letting go It’s important to take the time, to give yourself the time to be sad before moving on to make adjustments, before thinking about how you can have a really happy life. When I stopped comparing myself to others , my ‘new normal’ became less painful. I let go of the past and the ‘what ifs’ ‘what if I had done it differently.’ You can’t change the past, but you can change how your ‘today’ is going to be. Keep it real Lower your expectations too much and you’ll stay stuck. Aim too high and failure is almost certain. You need a just-right plan where you want to go with what you’re capable of right now. When a goal starts to take over someone’s time day or night, takes priority over having good relationships, or costs too much money or energy, that’s when you should worry. Sometimes you need to tone things down a little bit, keep it real. A new path Start by being more gentle with, and accepting of, yourself… to a certain extent, we all live wanting other people’s respect, but that craving can be more intense if you’re feeling insecure. A good way to set new goals is to look back at the ones you’ve already met, a lot of times they’ll be things that, six months before, you didn’t think you could do. Just because I have this illness doesn’t mean I have to feel sorry for myself and I don’t want other people to feel sorry for me, either. “WE are getting closer to the true definition of a superhero…” commented one Banksy fan on the elusive artist’s Instagram account next to an image of his latest work, a tribute to NHS workers created for staff at the Southampton General Hospital. The predominantly black and white painting, entitled Game Changer, shows a small boy kneeling next to discarded Batman and Spiderman figures and clutching instead a new NHS nurse superhero doll, complete with face mask. With her outstretched arm and billowing cape, she looks just like an action hero off to fight evil. The painting is now on display in a foyer near the hospital’s emergency department. Banksy left a note for the staff, saying: “Thanks for all you’re doing. I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if it’s only black and white.” The painting will remain at the hospital until the autumn, when it will go under the hammer to raise funds for NHS charities.

PRIME MINISTER Boris Johnson said in his speech on Sunday, May 10 that Britain would introduce a 14-day quarantine for passengers flying into the country, which would mean that visitors would have to remain at a single address. Willie Walsh told MPs that there “was nothing positive in the address” from Johnson, and added that he would need to review plans to resume flights. Walsh is the chief executive of BA and Iberia’s parent group, IAG, and speaking to the House of Commons Transport Select Committee, he said quarantine would make

matters worse for travellers. “We had been planning to resume - on a pretty significant basis - our flying in July. I think we’d have to review that based on what the Prime Minister said on Sunday.” Other carriers like easyJet and Ryanair have condemned the quarantine plans, and Walsh said that the development made no sense as it was important to get the UK economy moving again. He also believed there was a strange inconsistency: “I think the air passenger quarantine is a surprise as similar measures are not in place for other forms of international travel.”
