Guests evacuated in massive hotel fire AN Almuñecar hotel had to be evacuated due to a massive fire. The flames scorched one of the halls and caused extensive damage but fortunately no human lives were lost. The alarm was raised at 4.15am last Friday when a call was made to the 112 emergency phone number reporting that a roaring fire had started at Hotel Carmen on Avenida Europa next to Parque El Majuelo in Almuñecar. Three firefighters arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames, but had to call for reinforcements given the scale of the blaze. Local Police and the Guardia Civil were also deployed. Firefighters ordered hotel guests to evacuate the premises to prevent the loss of human life and battled the flames for nearly two hours. “We realised the fire was actually concentrated in a 300-square-metre hall, so we put it out through the
windows. It took us 40 minutes to bring it under control but almost two hours to extinguish it,” one firefighter told the media. Hotel guests were allowed to return to their rooms after the fire had been put out, though some of them had to be attended to by paramedics for smoke inhalation. “Fortunately, nobody was hurt and it was just a big scare,” said hotel spokesperson Manolo Campos.
The smoke spread to the hallways and the hotel will now have to determine how much it will cost to repair the damage caused by the flames, said Campos. Although the exact cause of the blaze is yet to be determined, the hotel is not ruling out any possibilities. “It is surprising that the fire should break out on the first floor as it started in an area where there is nothing that could create
a spark. One may think it was arson, but it is too soon to spectulate,” Manos commented. Guardia Civil and municipal technicians are investigating.
Overhead cables to come down VELEZ-MALAGA Council is to remove overhead cables from the historic city centre. The local authority has stated that the project will start in the next few days in La Villa and Arroyo de San Sebastian, specifically on Calle Real, Calle Murallas Altas, San Francisco and near Fuente de Fernando VI. “This will not only solve an aesthetic but also a safety problem. Cables in areas with the largest number of problems are to be moved underground,” said Urban Planning, Infrastructure and Services Councillor Concepcion Labao. The total cost of the project is estimated at €80,000 and is to be funded by the Urban Initiative De Toda La Villa.

Junta agrees to license beach bars
SIXTY-THREE beach bars in the Axarquia are to be granted licences by the Junta de Andalucia regional government. Secretary for Institutional Policy of PSOE in Andalucia, Francisco Conejo, said the Junta would soon issue licences to as many as 63 beach bars in the region as long as local councils comply with the
mandatory legal formalities. The decision is to benefit nine beach bars in Rincon de la Victoria, 14 in Torrox and 40 in VelezMalaga. President of the Junta de Andalucia Susana Diaz said in June that the regional government would do its utmost to speed up the licence granting process.

Euro Weekly News (EWN) proved that ‘It Gets It’ when our staff caught up with her to take exclusive pictures after she jetted in to be DJ at plush celebrity haunt Olivia Valere. She was playing her Broken Hearts set at the Marbella nightclub which was packed with socialites and special guests for the much anticipated show. She told EWN: “I love Marbella because it is so fun and classy. I’ve had to turn down great offers
around the world because I’m so solidly booked. I would love to stay for a week and really relax and enjoy it but I have so much to do.” Asked why she chose to become a DJ she said that when she does get days off work, there’s nothing she loves more than to chill out in her studio at home, with her dogs, writing songs and singing. She loves to see the crowd dance, smile and scream. Olivia Valere described Paris as “a very kind, sweet person” and this certainly seemed the case when she called a young man out of the crowd to have his picture taken with her, saying: “Wait a minute… I want to take a picture for this guy because he is so lovely.” Jose Castillo, 25, a self-confessed mega-fan, had travelled from Cordoba and queued for two hours, just to catch a glimpse of his idol.

Garden ready at end of year THE new Nerja Botanical Garden is to open its doors at the end of the year. Located at Cueva de Nerja, the garden has reportedly been
completed, but the general public will not be able to visit it until at least late 2014. Occupying an area of more than 25,000-square metres, the botanical
garden is the first of its kind in the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park. The construction project was fully funded by the Spanish Ministry of the Environment and cost more than â‚Ź3 million.
The ministry is to assign to garden to the Fundacion Cueva de Nerja and the process is expected to be completed at the end of 2014. Visitors, however, will have to wait until then to marvel at the 200 species of flower found in
the botanical garden. The garden is part of the Andalucian Network of Botanic and Mycological Gardens in Natural Areas (RAJBEN), whose goals include preserving flora, especially endangered species.
Illegal immigrant detained LOCAL POLICE in Nerja have arrested a Senegalese national for being in Spain illegally. Law enforcement officials were alerted to the presence of an unauthorised camp the man had allegedly built on Paseo de los Carabineros behind Playa Calahonda. During the operation the officers seized an undisclosed amount of items which the man was reportedly going to sell without the appropriate licence. Tax savings THOUSANDS of Rincon de la Victoria families are to benefit from tax cuts. A total of 9,028 families are to benefit from cuts in property tax (IBI) thanks to an initiative recently launched by the Malaga regional government. As stated by Interim Mayor Antonio Manuel Rando, the planned tax cuts are to be applied to as many as 6,344 homes (46.4 per cent of homes in
the municipality) through the Tax Office. Those to benefit from the initiative must be the proprietors of their place of residence and have no outstanding tax debts. They are not required to apply for the tax cut as it will be directly applied. Families living in properties with a cadastral value between €75,000 and €100,000 are expected to benefit from a €81 tax cut.

Three cultures fair in Frigiliana FRIGILIANA is to celebrate its ninth Festival 3 Culturas later this month. Organisers have put together a programme that includes exhibitions, free concerts, tapas routes, conferences, movies, workshops, theatre and a myriad of activities for children. FRIGILIANA FESTIVAL: A varied programme of activities to celebrate three cultures. Frigiliana’s history when all three major religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam – lived in peace with each other. As many as 20,000 people are expected in Frigiliana this year and the council has organised a shuttle bus service for tourists. Visitors are encouraged to take the
bus, but those preferring to bring their cars will be able to use the local car park which can accommodate up to 500 vehicles. Some of the bands playing at the festival include Revolver, La Musgaña, Karavansar, 17 Hippies, Rasha, La Shara and La Banda Morisca.
BUREAUCRACY seems to have delayed the much-needed installation of awnings in Nerja town centre, to provide shade to pedestrians. The Spanish Ministry of Commerce reportedly announced back in February that it would have awnings installed on the streets of Nerja thanks to a grant awarded by the Junta de Andalucia regional government. The final resolution is believed to have been given the green light in May but the awnings are still nowhere to be found as the municipality does not seem to have taken the necessary steps. These include setting the conditions for obtaining the tarpaulins, approving them, signing contracts and publishing the details. Fortunately, the Junta de Andalucia has extended the deadline to September 30 – it had originally been set for August 14 – at the request of some municipalities. The long-expected installation of awnings is now expected to start in the second half of this month. The awnings are said to be designed to last for up to 15 years.

Children in need to get financial aid SCHOOLCHILDREN in Velez-Malaga aged from three to five years old are set to benefit from financial aid from the council. The aid programme was unanimously approved, said Education Councillor Aurora Diaz. It is expected to benefit around 1,750 children and has a budget of €125,000. When allocating the grants, the council will take into account several criteria, including the number of family members, the income and unemployment levels in
the household, among others, said Diaz. Furthermore, the council is to fully finance all school supplies and textbooks for children at high risk of social exclusion, she added. The council is to publish a list with the names of all the applicants that have been awarded the funds. “The parents will be given a cheque which they can only use to buy books and school supplies at the bookstore of their choice,” said Diaz.
Kicking off to fight poverty LA VIÑUELA served as host to a charity football match between Guardia Civil officers and Axarquia gypsies. The football match, organised in part by La Viñuela Council, served to raise 300 kilograms of food which are to be distributed through the Red Cross to povertystricken Axarquia families. The game ended with a victory for the Guardia Civil officers who beat the team put together by the Gypsy Association of Axarquia 5-4. Tickets cost one kilogram of food.
New coach CLUB DEPORTIVO TORROX has a new football coach. Nicolas Jimenez Marmol will be at the helm of the local club during the upcoming 2014/2015 season of the Third Division of Spanish football. Marmol is to replace Coach Luis Paneque on the bench, who had to leave the team for personal reasons.

The council has started repairing the infrastructure on the roads as part of the 2014 Programme to Promote Rural Labour, formerly known as PER. Torrox Mayor Francisco Muñoz and Infrastructure Councillor Maria Estrella Tome visited the area to personally supervise the repair project. They said it was crucial to improve infrastructure and create employment. The repairs are scheduled to take three months, at a cost of €300,316, and have created 152 jobs. Muñoz said the PSOE always supports projects like this one, which give temporary employment to a large number of people from the agricultural sector. He added that the Junta de Andalucia had launched three additional programmes which are expected to create hundreds of jobs for unemployed Torrox residents.

Malaga-born shot-putter Borja Vivas, winner of a gold medal at the 2013 Mediterranean Games held in Mersin (Turkey), was the honorary ‘grape-trampler’ of the event. “I am very proud to be here and thankful for such a warm welcome,” said the 30-year-old medallist from Club Atletismo Malaga. The only problem was he could not wear the traditional sandals required to trample the grapes given his height - two metres - and weight, 130 kilograms. “They just won’t fit,” he joked. Grape trampling is an ancient method used in traditional winemaking in which grapes are not crushed using a wine press or any other mechanised method, but actually by people using their feet. “Trampling grapes was a very nice experience. I had never done anything like it,” said Vivas. The traditional festivity was kicked off with a mass in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion, followed by the grape-trampling event and a ceremony where the Association of Provincial Fire Departments in Malaga (CPB) was presented with a special award for its invaluable efforts to guarantee fire safety in the municipality. In addition, Competa’s mayor thanked CPB for helping extinguish the blaze that affected 223 hectares in the Sierras Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park on June 29. Before travelling to South America, Bueno had lived in Dublin where he worked for a law firm. Unfortunately, red tape may delay closure for his family. The Spanish Embassy in Peru has told Bueno’s family that they will need to be patient because Peruvian bureaucracy is rather slow, which means the analysis of the remains found in Cusco may take a long time.

HE good news is that Spain would appear to be firmly on the road to recovery. Along with the UK, economic growth rates are amongst the highest in the Western World. A rise in GDP of 0.6 per cent in the first quarter beat all forecasts for Spain and is significantly above the shock 0 per cent and -0.2 per cent figures shown by France and Germany respectively. The UK is steaming ahead with 0.8 per cent growth. But, worryingly for Spain, the UK is in a significantly better position for the simple reason that it controls its own currency. The UK can do whatever it wants to control its monetary policy. Spain, on the other hand, is tied into the Euro. Thus it has to follow European policy. That has so far been seen to serve the best interests of the two largest European mainland

economies - France and Germany. Overall the Euro has probably been a good thing for Spain, although those who remember the steep price rises when it was first introduced may beg to differ. Let us hope the Spanish recovery is not hampered by policies designed to protect the two ‘senior’ members of the European club at the cost of the smaller countries.

Reheated Cold War cools exports of fruit and veg SPANISH exporters are not reassured by the Spanish government’s ‘keep calm’ policy regarding Russian sanctions. The restrictions were Vladimir Putin’s response to earlier sanctions imposed by the West after a passenger aircraft was shot down over Ukraine by pro-Russian fighters. According to Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Spain stands to lose €337 million in lost exports, although the European Commission places this at €338 million. Miguel Blanco president of COAG, coordinator of Spain’s growers and farmers, believes the figure is closer to €1.2 billion. “It’s not only direct exports of around €340 million

Over-fishing sanctions for Spain and nine others THE European Commission sanctioned Spain for exceeding fishing quotas in 2013. To balance last year’s overfishing the EC has discounted 555 tons from this year’s total allocation. Andalucia and the Valencian Community, which export fruit and vegetables year-round to Russia, expect to feel the greatest impact. Cataluña will also be affected, principally through seasonal exports of peaches, nectarines and plums. The winner here is Latin America which has happily and hastily stepped into the breach left by EU exporters, to the displeasure of Brussels. They have been asked to reconsider their newly-signed contracts.
Portugal. In those cases where sanctioned countries have already landed their quotas for this year, the EC will reduce the allocation for another stock in the same geographical area. Despite overfishing by these countries, sanctions fell by 22 per cent compared with last year. Overall, they had done “a good job” in easing the pressure on Europe’s overfished waters, Damanaki said. The EC estimates that three-quarters of European stocks are at risk and in May 2013, EU members agreed to end decades of depletion in order to boost diminishing stocks by up to 15 million tons by 2020.

If there are empty tables in mid-August tourist hotspots what chance for the rest of the year? I passionately believe Costa barrestaurant turnover could easily be multiplied many times over. the new manager who says, ‘I am going to change everything here.’ Let’s go to England to see if we can find the answers there. Duh! Is that sensible? England and for that matter, Dublin in Ireland and Riga in Latvia are high priced, cool and often rainy. Yet, disconcertingly these cities, which do compete with Spain for tourism, don’t seem to have an off season. Whenever I visit, whatever the weather, the bars and restaurants are busy. In Bristol and Liverpool it is still
necessary to book a restaurant table, be prepared to wait or be turned away. I will tell you what it is; they offer real variety. I swear there is a bigger and much more varied choice of restaurants in a moderately sized English city than there is along the entire Mediterranean coast of Spain. Furthermore, the service is far better as is the quality of atmosphere and food. Here, if you have seen any two restaurants you have seen them all. The choice is Blackpool type 1960s era tin-table cafés or Spanish ambience restaurants; take it or leave it. Karaoke musical fare is as tediously unimaginative as the fare on the plate. I cannot think of a single atmospheric exotic ambience wine bar that invites a smart dress code. In England I was spoiled for choice.

Spain’s public debt rockets to €1 trillion SPAIN’S public debt soared to a whopping €1 trillion. According to data released by Banco de España, the Spanish public debt rocketed to just over €1 trillion or 98.4 per cent of GDP. The Government estimates the debt levels could increase before the end of the year to as much as 99.5 per cent of GDP. Spain’s debt has actually tripled since the outbreak of the economic crisis from 36.3 per cent of GDP in 2007 to almost 100 per cent in 2014. Most of the debt was incurred by the Central Government (84.5 per cent of Spain’s gross domestic product), followed by the Autonomous Communities (21.7 per cent of GDP) and the local councils (4 per cent). These levels are some of the highest seen in modern times.

The ICP is an Interruptor de Control de Potencia, and it is required by law on all electrical installations as of two years ago. It protects your system from overuse and assures that you do not consume more electricity than you have contracted at any one time. We suppose that the photograph showed that in fact you now have an ICP installed, but never informed the company. And, yes, Endesa has the right to put the surcharge on your bill. When we control our urge to spend and start to see money building up in a savings account it really does offer a sense of fulfilment and give us ambition to keep saving. Unfortunately this app is currently just available for Nationwide customers in the UK. Perhaps Spanish banks will pick up on the trend shortly, but in the meantime, with a little bit of discipline we could do the same ourselves. While it’s a little more time consuming, we could in theory restrain from buying unnecessary treats throughout the day and then tot up how much we would have potentially spent. Then, simply transfer this money into a savings account via internet banking.
Lefties leftovers to be Inditex main course INDITEX, whose Zara brand made Amancio Ortega the world’s third-richest man, is going online with Lefties. This is Inditex’s low-cost range of Zara models left over from the previous season. It is already present in 100 shops in Spain and Portugal and the group plans to take on H & M and Primark by launching Lefties as a label in its own right, with its own collection and a new image. Unavailable online until now, it makes its internet debut tomorrow, August 22. The company is committed to internet commerce, the current Inditex chairman Pablo Isla declared recently. This is an important part of its multi-channel strategy of coordinating increased retail space with
expanded online sales. The group continues to see huge growth opportunities in different markets, Isla told the last shareholders’ meeting in July. “There are ample prospects of growth in all areas of Europe while the US is very attractive,” Isla said. There are few clues as to Lefties’ current profitability as the group has never supplied separate breakdown of Lefties results, which until now have been included in Zara’s. Nor does Inditex make a habit of revealing its strategies regarding brands or stores to shareholders or the media. Nevertheless the new Lefties strategy began to take shape on August 1 with two new stores on the outskirts of Moscow and a third in the St Petersburg suburbs. Scruffy beards that need a trim infecting society DURING the last five or 10 years we’ve witnessed a contagious fad amongst Spanish men of all ages. They grow beards so dishevelled and multi-coloured that many of these untidy bramble bushes resemble an explosion in a silo. Beginning with many of our not-so-prestigious political leaders, with their whiskers of diverse shades of black, white, grey and brown, we now discover that the epidemic has spread. It infects almost all Spanish males, young or old, the common denominator being that almost none of these recently-converted fadfollowers take the time or effort to trim or care for them. Is it due to simple laziness or sloth? I realise that this gripe of mine (and also my Valencian wife’s) is not one of our major problems in crisis-ridden Spain, but if we look around to observe the males of other Western nations, we readily notice that hardly any of them (young or old, famous or not) wear beards. In the dark AS a long term resident of Artola Alta I see the same circus every year. Most of the time the main street is in total darkness and suddenly when the tourists are here and the IBI is due, the lights miraculously work perfectly. Of course, with no lights in the street the area is a magnet for petty crime and break-ins are so frequent they have become commonplace. The day after the direct debit has gone through your bank account the lights go off. Now is that coincidence or is that perfect ‘Urban Planning?’ Paul R Ballard (by email)

Think again I ASSUME that the article entitled ‘Pensioner saved from mountain’ was written by someone in their twenties. ‘Elderly’ is not a term to use for a person of 62 years of age, its meaning being someone who is approaching old age. Most people in current employment in the UK, who I’m sure do not consider themselves elderly, will have to work until they’re 70 to receive their pensions. Expat retirees whose spending keeps Spain alive comprise 50 per cent of many local Spanish communities, so I would suggest that you reconsider the use of this adjective. Nick Duncan (by email)

Workings out I WILL start by assuming that Leapy Lee classes all people from the Middle East as Arabs. The main numerical system used in all mathematical exercises is based on the Arabic set of numerals, without which mathematics would be unintelligible and unuseable. The previous most used numeral system was the Roman system in which mathematics is impossible. For example is X 10 or is it the symbol for multiplication? Or simply try to add ii to ii on paper or without converting it to the Arabic numerals to complete the task. Jim (by email)

Oil interests WE have to recognise that the Muslims have had good reasons to despise the West. From the Crusades to the 20th century the Western world has treated them with disdain and contempt even after oil was discovered. Thus the Americans and European powers have interfered time and time again with countries in the Middle East and in North Africa, wanting to install regimes that would be favourable to the West and to its oil interests. It is a pity that the West did not have the self respect to go without the wretched oil from those areas of the world. Sadly, Muslims can also see the decadence of the Western world, with its corruption, permissiveness, greed, immorality and appalling standards of dress. They did have a high civilisation, notably in Moorish Spain, without which the European Renaissance might not have occurred. After that, I agree with Leapy Lee: one cannot think of a single thing which they have produced or invented for the benefit, progress or happiness of mankind in the last 500 years. Yet because of the oil money they can reap the benefits of all the tremendous achievements of the Western world (and Asia). We should get out of all their countries. PJ Owen (by email)
No bargain I’M indifferent to Looky-Looky men and have never paid out for any of their wares, but have to comment on an assertion by last week’s Your Say correspondent, Richard Franklyn. He appears to believe that they charge €15 for ‘perfect’ polo shirts that would otherwise cost €85. These vendors are peddling inferior copies blown together in sweatshops on the other side of the world. Troops needed on the streets of Britain LEAPY LEE SAYS IT OTHERS THINK IT

AKE no mistake, war is, as we speak, licking its lips and savouring the taste of death and destruction at the very borders of the UK, and indeed a number of other European communities. The enemy is everywhere. Never mind Iraq, Afghanistan and so forth, we need to look much closer to home for the true threat from Islamist militants. When some apparently slight and no doubt orchestrated incident sparks it off, rioting and war will erupt on the streets of the UK in a way unprecedented in our history, and to my mind it’s a great deal closer than we think. We should be preparing for it now. We will of course ultimately win, but the cost will depend totally on the extent of our preparation. If we are ill-prepared and still allow human rights, political correctness and all that rubbish to influence our decisions, we will be condemning even more of our citizens to

This summer get a grilling over the barbie of gobbledygook
I
N the course of our working lives, we’ve all come across prime examples of people totally out of their depth but who get by and are promoted purely by being able to talk the talk. In other words, they excel at management-speak gobbledygook, a major source of irritation and barrier to procuring new business in Britain according to a recent survey. And it’s too often used by those who are incapable of managing and so hide behind buzz words and clichés to mask the fact they haven’t a clue what they’re talking about. The language of business - like that of education and politics seems deliberately designed to confuse. And, of course, if you don't understand, you can’t constructively criticise because someone will - rightly and smugly - tell you that you simply don’t ‘get it!’

TALK THE TALK: ‘Let’s think outside the box.’ A friend worked for a company where they’d regularly say, ‘Let’s take this offline’ which completely confused him at first. Turns out this meant ‘stop talking about it.’ In fact, what they really meant was either: “I haven’t the faintest idea what you’re talking about so can we talk about this in private so I don’t have to look a right idiot in front of others” or, more commonly: “No, I haven’t done what you asked, but the last thing I want is to let on to a room full of
people I screwed up.” Another friend’s former secondary school converted to an academy. Its new mission statement doesn’t mention boys, girls or students but ‘stakeholders.’ Stakeholders are
defined as ‘citizens’ of the school. And citizens, in turn, are members of the ‘[School’s name] family.’ Heck! Aren’t stakeholders those things you come across throughout the summer here in Spain - at barbecues?
And clichés beloved of our politicians? How about: Hardworking families. Fairness. Onenation. Transparency. Or: “We had a frank exchange of views, and a constructive dialogue on which we now have the basis to move forward, and I am very much looking forward to our next meeting in the light of this progress.’ So, ‘let’s think outside the box,’ ‘run it up and down the flagpole’ and ‘touch base.’ Phew! Whatever happened to plain old English? Oh yes, but back to the original point: maybe no-one really knows what they’re talking about any more…

Magic pill to stop greying hair THE concept of a pill which could stop the greying effects on hair has been floating around for some time, but now it may soon become a reality. FASEB (Spanish medical research organisation) has published a study in which they explain a mechanism which could govern the greying of hair. Researchers at the University of Bradford, UK, have demonstrated that, over time, stress produces hydrogen peroxide in the
hair follicles and this blocks the production of melatonin, which is responsible for colour in hair and skin. A sub product of this reaction is the production of enzymes which separate from the peroxide and allow the hair follicles to absorb tiny air bubbles which get trapped in the hair and give it that grey appearance. The trick would be to eliminate the production of hydrogen peroxide in the hair follicles.

SHISEIDO, Japan’s most famous cosmetic brand, has launched a new product on the European market, Ultimune: power infusing concentrate, but what is it composed of and how good is it? The main ingredients, as stated on the packaging, are Damascus rose oil, Ginko Biloba, Perilla frutescens (similar to nettles), Thymus Serpyllium (of the thyme family) and vitamin E - as well as a lot of alcohol. The thymus helps skin to hydrate and is a natural disinfectant, the perilla can have anti-inflammatory properties and the ginko is a topical anti-oxidant - but the fact remains that there is nothing very new here and the main ingredient seems to be alcohol. The manufacturers are recommending that Ultimune be used before a serum as a sort of preparatory serum which leaves users with the question of why bother?

that more people than recently were actively caring for plants on apartment terraces and adding various artefacts to bare walls, to make the terraces more attractive outdoor living spaces. Yet it is still amazing that probably 80 per cent of apartment terraces are totally underutilised for outdoor living. In the bible for apartment dwellers ‘Apartment gardening - Mediterranean

style’ we include check lists of the main season by season tasks organised into six groups. These are flowering plants, evergreen plants, herbs, fruit growing, vegetable growing and other. MANY of you may believe that dogs have the same feelings and emotions as humans and that they understand our language; this is a mistaken belief. Dogs do understand our body language but are unable to understand our emotions. Dogs are not small, furclad human beings, they are canines even though they show loyalty and devotion to the hand that feeds them. Dogs live totally in the present. They do not worry about the past and do not dream about the future. They are not
endowed with imagination or feel grief, hate, jealousy or greed or other emotions that bedevil human society. They do have a high sensory ability, which is often mistaken for a kind of sixth sense. They will
understand whether your tone of voice and your facial expressions are good or bad when you are talking to them, in whatever language, but they will not understand longer phrases than commands like sit, stay and get down. A good example is when we believe our dog is sulking or when a dog pines over the death of a member of the family. The dog will be
feeling the loss of a member of the family. It will also be confused by the vibrations of distress it picks up from the family when there are arguments. Once the family has settled down, the dog will make a quick recovery, for it lives in the present and not in the past. Do not attribute dogs with human emotions. Food allergy in dogs and cats - not to be confused with food intolerance WHAT does that really mean? Many think it is like
a peanut allergy or anything else that causes an acute reaction in the form of hives, itchiness, swelling, difficulty breathing and so on. Most food allergies, however, develop over time. Proteins and carbohydrates are the biggest offenders. Additives and E-numbers can also cause allergy. A pet that is fed the same food or food with the
same ingredients can over a period of time from six months to three years develop an allergy to
these ingredients. Not to be confused with food intolerance that can give acute
reactions such as vomiting and diarrhoea. A food allergy causes general itchiness. Very often more predominant around the face and the anal area, but it can involve the whole body. The diagnosis of food allergy and finding the responsible factor is quite challenging. Blood tests are disputable and elimination diets take a

UPWARD TREND: SEAT sales continue to grow above the market average.
SEAT breaks 200,000 vehicle barrier in the first half of 2014 SEAT sales continue their upward trend. The brand ended the first half of 2014 with 200,200 vehicles delivered, 9.9 per cent more than in the first half of 2013 (182,200). SEAT has achieved its best result of the past six years, exceeding the figure of 200,000 units delivered for the first half of a year since the beginning of the economic crisis in 2008. Sales of the Leon have provided the key to this growth. This compact car
has seen its sales increase by 62.3 per cent, totalling 78,600 vehicles, 30,200 more than for the first half 2013 (48,400). The ST estate version has exceeded expectations and contributed 21,200 units. The Alhambra, one of the fastest-growing models so far this year, adds another 19.4 per cent (total: 11,400 units; 9,500 in 2013). SEAT President Jürgen Stackmann underlined the fact that SEAT continues
to grow above the market average. “Volumes are still low, but the European market is already showing signs of recovery. In this context our sales are once again growing above the competition average. Synergies are derived from cost reductions, cost avoidance and revenue increases. Only new synergies not cumulative synergies are taken into account each year. Synergies help both Renault and Nissan meet performance objectives and, significantly, enable the car makers to deliver higher value vehicles to customers around the world.
