Bicycles take over in Altea TWO more Altea roads are to incorporate a cycle lane. Work has begun on a 1.3-kilometre section of Avenida Juan Alvado and Camino del Algar and should be finished in early December, said Councillor Jaime Selles. The cycle lane, costing €20,000, will begin at the Avenida de La Nucia roundabout and continue along a 400metre stretch of Camino del Algar. It will then cross the river and connect with the existing ‘green corridor’ and cycle lane. The track will be inaccessible on

Tuesday mornings when the open-air market is held in Avenida Juan Alvadao and the Camino del Algar will no longer be double-width. This new section now gives access to the coast as well as the Barranquet, La Lloma and l’Horta districts, furthering town hall plans for 10 kilometres of cycle lane, Selles said. Soon there will be a safe network for cyclists, the councillor maintained. “But just as vehicles must adapt and respect speed limits inside the town, cyclists should also co-operate by complying with regulations and making good use of the bike lane,” he added.

REGIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT Jose Ciscar has confirmed what everyone already knows. Valencia is not included in the Formula One Grand Prix calendar for 2014. “Unless,” Ciscar added, “there is a major last-minute surprise.” As yet no date has been given for announcing the definitive calendar, claimed the vice-president. Whatever the date, this is expected to confirm the cancellation of the agreement between the regional government and Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone. Nor will there be anything to pay, insisted Ciscar who is also spokesman for the Consell, the regional government’s equivalent to a Cabinet. Some weeks back the regional president Alberto Fabra met Ecclestone in London, hoping to thrash out a deal. This failed to materialise, although Ecclestone allegedly told Fabra that he would prefer to have only one Spanish Grand Prix race and would have liked it to be held in Valencia.

Tripping the light fantastic IBERDROLA has decided to investigate deceptively low electricity bills in a particular Monforte del Cid zone. Meter readings did not match the amounts paid by a nearby petrol station and a red-light club so Iberdrola employees were sent out

to check. They found nothing to explain the discrepancy and the clipjoint owner assured them on several occasions that he had a generator. If they listened, he said, they could hear it. They would pause, listen and then leave. The mystery was solved after a massive outage left the area without

electricity. A discreet police investigation led them to the ‘puticlub’ where they discovered there was no generator. Instead there was an illegal connection to a power line and a CD of a generator engine that was played over the club’s sound system whenever the owner spotted an Iberdrola van.

SPANISH wine has been named the best in the world by specialist magazine Wine Spectator. The winning Rioja, the Imperial Gran Reserva 2004 from the CVNE winery, is the first Spanish wine to top the list, according to the executive director of Wine Spectator, Thomas Matthews. This year, their critics have analysed 25,000 wines, testing the quality, price, availability and the emotional factor. Second on the list was a Bordeaux, the 2010 Chateau Canon-La Gaffeliere, and third was Evestad’s 2010 Domaine Serene from Oregon, USA. The CVNE Gran Reserva 2004, of which 4,000 crates were produced, got 95 points out of 100, meaning it is readily available, and costs the equivalent of €46 in the USA, which is not considered to be expensive. Critics said it reaches the balance between tradition and modernity, which they believe is what people want nowadays. It is made with Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano grapes and matured in barrels of American and French oak. Alicante getting older ALICANTE PROVINCE has fewer young people. The birth rate continues to fall and by 2016 there will be more deaths than births, revealed the National Statistics Institute (INE). Within 10 years the province will lose more than 113,000 inhabitants – 6.15 per cent of the current census. Overall the entire population of Spain will fall by 2.6 million inhabitants. Experts trace the problem to

NEWS Town hall’s ‘catastro’ bounty DENIA TOWN HALL has had a €600,000 windfall. This is the amount it will receive from 518 homes that were missing from the ‘catastro’ or register of properties. None had ever paid IBI rates or other dues and these properties, which are now in the ‘inspection phase’, according to Finance Councillor Vicente Chelet, will be included on the catastro for the first time. A further 3,248 homes were paying less than they should, including one threestorey building where only the ground floor paid rates. The town hall had less luck with an owner who owed €170,000 in unpaid IBI on garages and storage rooms. They are now municipal property but are worth just €50,000 although, as Chelet acknowledged, “that is better than nothing.” Following the catastro revision, the town hall can look forward to an extra €2 million to €2.5 million next year.

ABAI’s bee hotels abuzz with activity BENISSA’S fire-prevention association ABAI has been up to Bernia to check its pollination stations. For some time now, ABAI has been working to assist the regeneration of Bernia’s woodland by facilitating natural pollination by wild bees.

The health of the landscape is closely linked to the health of the bees which transfer pollen from plant to plant, the association explained. They facilitate reproduction and ensure that later there are more seeds and of good quality. This in turn improves the ground cover

It would receive €90 million for IKEA’s building permit and other dues, plus an annual €4.5 million in IBI rates and other taxes. The centre would also provide 9,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Bomb hoax ALICANTE CITY’S provincial high court building was cleared during a bogus bomb alert. Evacuation was ordered following a telephone call claiming that an explosive device had been planted inside the building. The Plaza del Ayuntamiento was cordoned off and adjoining streets were closed despite the rush-hour traffic. Officers and sniffer dogs from the TEDAX bomb disposal unit searching the court building found nothing and the alert was lifted an hour later. Police are now trying to trace the call. If found the person responsible could receive a 12-month prison sentence or fine, depending on the disruption caused.

GROWING AMBITION: Councillors inspect allotments.

More allotments springing up ALBIR’S municipal allotments should be ready for use at the beginning of next year. Work begins next month on clearing land for 30 new allotments on a 2,500-square-metre plot near La Estradao. Another 46 will be installed on 4,000 square metres near the desalinisation plant and new Ecoparque, announced Alfaz del Pi’s Environment Councillor Vicente Soler. There is a €10 fee and allotments will be available for two years. Five thousand square

metres of municipal land has been converted into 58 allotments since 2008, with others on adjoining land which are used by local schools. The allotment scheme has been a great success since the outset and Alfaz and Albir will soon have a total of 254 allotments on 21,500 square metres of land, Soler said. Shop windows were full of winter clothes and the air-conditioning was still on,” said Mari Angeles Cinos, President of an Alicante retailers’ association. With sales periods no longer restricted by law, shops have been offering reductions of 20, 30 and even 50 per cent on winter stock. Sales might be increasing, but the improvement is too slow for some. “It’s not enough. We’re pinning our hopes on Christmas,” said the owner of a Playa de San Juan shop.

Homeless numbers up 21% in Alicante CARITAS, a Spanish charity association, has said the number of homeless people in Alicante has increased by 21 per cent during 2013. There are twice as many women living on the streets and triple the number of young people aged from 18 to 25 than were registered last year. Caritas is now helping more than 2,000 of the 3,500 homeless people, with the

rest being helped by other charity associations in the area. Charo Moreno, from Caritas who works with the homeless explained that lots of these people are in this situation because they were evicted from their homes by the banks. “The biggest problem with this situation is that the people living in these conditions are

normally affected by more diseases, which increases the risk of social exclusion.” She added it is more difficult for them to get medical assistance because most are nonregistered foreigners and 60 per cent do not have a medical card. Caritas says their life expectancy is 20 years below the rest of the population.

Calpe schoolchildren get new playground CALPE COUNCIL has built a €6,000 children’s area in the Colegio Publico Olta because the school had no place for the smaller children to play safely. The town hall asked the Alicante

Government and also the Regional Department of Education, to provide a playground for the younger students at the school. To get permission for the play area, the town hall had to install

120 square metres of rubber floor as the law requires. It was put in at the end of the school term in June. Once they proved to the Education Authority in Alicante that the floor was

correctly fitted and it was safe for children, the Regional Department of Education installed all the equipment needed, giving the younger children their own play area.

Making the job easier for volunteer firefighters A NEW water pump has been donated to the volunteer fire brigade from Balcon al Mar. Their equipment was damaged at the beginning of October as they attended a fire in La Guardia, Javea. The volunteers play an important role and in many cases are the first people to arrive at the scene of a fire. As a result, Amjasa, the company that supplies water to Javea, decided to

Crown, a leader in consumer packaging, paid €1.2 billion for the Murcia company whose annual six billion ‘easy open’ ring-pull tops make it a world leader. VERY now and then it’s time to recap on spending and expenses and examine what exactly we do with our money. Often, habitual spending habits can be reduced or cut out completely, when on closer inspection we realise that they aren’t actually that necessary. But to do this we need to step back and take a good look at our spending and figure out where cutbacks can be made. Here are just a few ideas to think about in order to save an extra bit of cash for the Christmas holidays. Don’t take water for granted. The water that runs from a tap is not free; a water company,

house, but don’t abuse it. Plan your meals. Nobody wants to take the spontaneity out of cooking, but not being prepared for mealtimes can often lead to overspending. Nothing in the fridge? Of course a pizza or eating out is an option. But it’s not a

cheap option. The best solution is to plan a few meals each week. Make a shopping list and only buy what you need. Supermarkets are designed to intrigue and tempt your taste buds, so entering one without a list is dangerous territory. Be warned!

Is Michael O’Leary having a change of heart? OK, so the Ryanair boss has promised to be kind and thoughtful from now on. Well, we shall see. If you are planning a trip home for Christmas, the flights should have been booked three weeks ago. Only a few seats on each flight are sold at bargain prices and once they’re sold, the prices rise. So book early. Always ask yourself: do I really need this? From a piece of delicious €5 a slice cheesecake to complement afternoon coffee, to picking up a barbeque utensil set that is suddenly half price, just step back and think are these purchases necessary? Try to teach yourself to take the impulse out of impulse buying. You’ll be amazed at how much stuff you actually don’t want! Remember, small steps towards better managing your finances can go a long way, which results in more savings for you.

Spain is on the road to recovery says international think-tank AN international think-tank has confirmed that Spain is entering a period of economic recovery. But the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has warned that the need to control government spending, plus a lack of private lending, could keep the pace of recovery slow. It has still upgraded its forecast for growth in Spain to 0.5 per cent, up from 0.4 per cent, in 2014. That is substantially lower than

the Spanish Government’s own forecast of 0.7 per cent. The forecast for 2015 is a growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 1 per cent, while the economy will have contracted 1.3 per cent during 2013 against initial estimates of a 1.7 per cent decline in GDP. The OECD expects the unemployment rate to improve slightly but still remain at around 25.6 per cent by 2015. “Improving growth in export markets, gains in market share and the stabilisation of private domestic demand will help to foster a weak UPTURN: Spain’s growth forcast upgraded.

recovery in 2014 and 2015,” the OECD’s report on Economic Outlook said. GDP growth across the 34member OECD is projected to accelerate from this year’s 1.2 per cent rate to a 2.3 per cent in 2014 and 2.7 per cent rate in 2015, according to the Outlook. The pace of the global recovery is weaker than forecast last May, largely as a result of the worsened outlook for some emerging economies.Growth in the United States is projected at 2.9 per cent in 2014 and 3.4 per cent in 2015. The euro area is expected to witness a gradual recovery, with growth of 1 per cent in 2014 and 1.6 per cent in 2015. Growth has begun picking up in China but will remain weaker than previously projected in most other major emerging market economies.

German surplus under review THE European Commission has launched a review into whether Germany’s export surplus is undermining the European Union’s economic recovery, which has sparked outrage among German officials.

Fewer hols SPAIN will have fewer national holidays (nine) compared to Italy (12), Slovenia (17) and the rest of Europe in 2014, the government has stated in the Official State Gazette.

Exports rise EXPORTS to the Euro- zone grew with the best development in the last two years with a 14 per cent increase. This export upturn extends the trade deficit.

Looking better? FAMILIES’ net revenue fell 3.5 per cent to €23,123. But the number of households beneath the poverty line fell to 21.6 per cent as poverty is defined as a percentage of average income.

Google card GOOGLE will be offering credit cards for consumers to use in any establishment and withdraw money from any cash machine in the coming months as part of its online Google Wallet scheme.

Cheaper fuel PETROL and diesel prices dropped 0.3 and 0.2 per cent respectively last week. The prices registered their lowest point since December 2012, according to the European Petrol Gazette.

Here’s hoping! THE Spanish will spend an average €50 on the Christmas lottery, €4 less than last year.

Text advice to help keep people online I WOULD like to take issue with Gary Waite’s letter about Movistar/Telefonica (Issue 1481). I work for a group of companies and am responsible for the contacts we have with Movistar; faults, contracts, discounts and so on for both mobile and landline telephones. I have nothing but praise for Movistar. Their service and customer relations have improved enormously over the last couple of years. Last week was a typical example: I had a call to say that on two lines the ADSL wasn’t working. I texted 1002 with the telephone numbers and a brief description of the fault. Straight away, a reply was texted that they were looking into it. Within a few minutes, another text arrived, saying it was a local problem and that their engineers were working on it. About an hour-and-a-half later, another text arrived, saying that the problem had been resolved but the routers may need re-booting. A bit later, I had a call, asking if the problem had been resolved satisfactorily. We have many landlines and mobiles and Movistar also provide us with computers. If ever I have occasion to contact them their response is rapid and efficient. I would recommend that Mr Waite tries the texting way of reporting faults. Cherry Atkinson, La Nucía (Alicante)

No tea party IT is sad to witness the shutdown of a once great democracy, the USA, as it moves inevitably closer to a society governed by a small but influential minority. Lunch declined THANK YOU, Mike Thomas, for your lunch invitation and education. It was very sweet of you. My husband and I often enjoy tapas or ‘pa amb oli’ (Mallorcan bread and olive oil) at our local chiringuito. My initial letter (regarding nudists in everyday life) certainly did not intend to offend you or anyone, rather it was written with tongue in cheek or a light-hearted view of mine. Now history. Over 40 years ago having a drink at a chiringuito in Porto Cristo, Mallorca with my ‘now’ Mallorquin husband clad in 60s’ beachwear - longish shorts and full swimming costume - we were asked to put on shirt/blouse whilst we sat at the table. We apologised and did so. Just manners, no! In your nudist colony you have your rules and etiquette. And that’s fine. But in the real world we ‘hoi polloi’ are not ready for nudity

AT last a sensible suggestion regarding the dog owning problem in Spain. However, as in Germany, the tax or licence should be graded according to the type of dog, large aggressive types hundreds of euros, for example. This would provide employment and income which is especially needed in Spain, also ensuring appropriate veterinary checks and happy contented dogs! In dog house I DISAGREE with David the Dogman’s advice to parents to not get a dog if they have children. I, myself have grown up with dogs and my own children have grown up with rescue dogs. It would be better to advise parents to show caution when choosing a dog when you have children. For example, get a rescue ‘puppy’, or a breed that is good with children; rescue centres are full of them. I also think parents have a responsibility to teach their children how to treat the dog, and at the end of the day it teaches children to love and respect animals. Hundreds of thousands of dogs are re-homed every year, and most rescue centres do get it right. Don’t let the mistake of one rescue centre undermine the brilliant work most rescue centres do! Badults (Sitcom) BBC 3 from 3:35am to 4:05am Sitcom about outrageous flatmates Tom, Ben and Matthew. With the banks closed till Tuesday the boys attempt to keep their unauthorised withdrawal of £5,000 from burning a hole in their collective pocket. Matthew wants to lock the money away. Tom wants to speculate. Ben wants to order a mountain of takeaway food. Rachel has her own adventurous weekend planned. Andrew's work has arranged a murder mystery weekend and she's off to guess who done it, leaving the boys to protect the cash. The simple task of not spending money proves tricky for the badults. As the cash ebbs away Tom takes the advice of local bookie Aggressive Gary and turns to the gee-gees. Matthew draws up a business plan, but Ben spies an opportunity for riches in one of Tom's smellier ideas. Tensions rise and friendships unravel, eventually plunging the flat into civil war. Territory is divided, barriers erected, an aristocracy formed and peasants enslaved. All that remains is revolution.

Women can’t have it both ways LEAPY LEE SAYS IT OTHERS THINK IT

DUNNO, you girls really do want to have that bit of cake and eat it too. For years now, in fact ever since the railing chains and racecourse ‘suicide’, women’s libbers have fought tooth and nail to be accepted as equals to men. And what a success the whole exercise has turned out to be! We now have female church leaders, men-only organisations are basically illegal, women are 50 per cent partners in matrimony. Western women are now just about accepted in every field as the equals they have always yearned to be. And then what happens? A number of the ‘sexually equal’ military members sue the army because they hurt their backs when expected to take the same spaced marching step as the men! Give us a break, girls! You can’t have it both ways. The only reason you were a bit ‘stretched’ was because you were a bit short. Well, I’ve got news for you. There are plenty of short men who find it a mite uncomfortable to keep pace with their taller comrades in arms; you really don’t see them running to the authorities bleating about discrimination. I

suggest you just get used to it. Shame on the Ministry of Defence for actually paying out sums of money that in many cases exceeded those given to soldiers injured in Afghanistan. Disgraceful! I suppose Cameron and his European cronies really won’t be convinced that you simply cannot trust most of these ‘mid-beast’ leaders until Iran drops the biggest suicide bomb in history, right in the middle of Israel. Western leaders still don’t seem to understand that nobody fights fair any more. The Christmas Day ‘truce’, decent treatment of prisoners and suchlike are things of the past. I bet the Iranian hierarchies are Women in laughing up their sleeves at the the military ‘stupid infidels’ who actually should keep believed they would restrict their nuclear capabilities in return for the pace with lifting of sanctions. HE PSC, Cataluña’s Socialist party, merged with the PSOE in 1977. Like any Spanish bride, it kept its own name and cohabited without too many problems until the separatist question reared its head. Many PSC politicians and voters want a right-to-decide referendum but after much soul-searching, the PSC has abandoned the independence route. Pere Navarro, PSC Secretary General, announced that the party “will oppose any initiative in favour of Cataluña’s self-determination not first agreed with the Spanish institutions.” Navarro knows that agreement, amounting to permission, is unlikely to be forthcoming. His decision could lose votes for the PSC but backing independence

would lose the PSOE many more outside Cataluña where there is scant sympathy. The PSOE has enough on its plate just now. It cannot capitalise on the government’s unpopularity, its party image is no better than the PP’s and it needs a charismatic leader. If the PSOE is to have more problems to contend with, they should at least be of its own making, not Cataluña’s.

Good fun or just shallow? ‘Selfie’ is the word of the year 2013, according to Oxford Dictionaries. It describes a self-portrait taken with a hand-held digital camera or camera phone, often posted on social media internet sites. WOMEN who take selfies spend an average of 16 minutes to prepare themselves for a ‘spontaneous’ picture, according to a survey. Many take up to six pictures of themselves to check hair and make-up before going out. That, for many of our readers, seems a waste of time. Kirsten Van Barneveld, aged 38, works as a waitress at Digby’s Bar in Javea and has only taken selfies a couple of times in her life. She said: “It was just for fun, with some friends of mine and I didn’t like how I looked on them. I did not prepare at all to take both selfies.” Maria C Cano, a 20 year-old

There is a large number of varieties of bulbous plants (which includes bulbs, corms and rhizomes) which grow excellently even spectacularly in Spanish gardens. There are bulbs for all seasons but most are best planted in the autumn or early winter. However, the choice is often limited in Spanish garden centres, horticultural shops and general stores so over the years we have searched wider for interesting and

Why bulbs can be interesting There are bulbs for all seasons, some being very exotic. Since they grow well in pots as well as the open garden they are useful for covered terraces outside the kitchen or lounge, courtyards and patios, apartment/penthouse terraces, rockeries, flowerbeds or as natural plantings under trees and deciduous shrubs. Many will come up year after year and multiply. They can have a dramatic

effect as individual bulbs or as massed plantings. Once planted in the garden they need little care. They are therefore of special interest to absentee gardeners. Some choices to consider For late winter and spring: The most reliable in the garden are anemones, grape hyacinths, freesias, flag irises, Dutch and Spanish irises and miniature irises. Massplanted patches of each can give weeks of colour to flowerbeds and rockeries. Flag irises are particularly useful for semi-shaded corners where they can be left to multiply year after year. The others are best in full sun. For pots try clivias, anemones, tulips, rananculus and exotic species of daffodils and amaryllis, and for window boxes grape hyacinths and late-planted full-sized hyacinths. If you live in woodland, a spring carpet of naturalised daffodils can be spectacular. Equally if on a mountain top miniature jonquils and species tulips can brighten up otherwise barren rocky areas. Unfortunately slugs often eat tulip bulbs during the summer if planted in the open garden.

House sales in Spain recovering steadily HOUSE sales in Spain increased between October 2012 and September 2013, a report by the Ministry of Public Works has revealed. A total of 341,104 houses were bought in this period, a 1.4 per cent increase in relation to the same period the previous year. The regions of Murcia, Aragon and Catalu単a are the ones where more houses were sold, with a rise of 14.3, 9.4 and 7.6 per cent respectively. These figures contrast, however, with those corresponding to house sales during the third quarter of the year. According to the report, 70,196 houses were bought between July and September this year, a 6.8 per cent year-on-year decrease. Only four regions - The Canaries, Murcia and Catalu単a - registered positive year-on-year figures, with the remaining 13 Spanish regions registering negative ones.

Ready to roll, come rain or shine FIAT has designed a car to appeal to both lovers of adventure and drivers who simply want extra grip on slippery surfaces, the Panda 4x4. The 4x4 features a permanent all-wheel drive system that employs two differentials and an electronically controlled coupling governed by an electronic control unit. In normal dry conditions, 98 per cent of the engine torque is transferred to the front wheels. This means the car handles in a very similar way to a front-wheel drive model and there are no increases in petrol consumption and tyre wear. Under low grip conditions like snow, ice or mud, the electronically controlled coupling prevents wheel spin by progressively increasing the proportion of torque sent to the rear wheels. The Fiat Panda 4x4 features ELD (Electronic Locking Differential) as standard. This improves traction by braking wheels with poor grip on slippery terrain and transferring the driving force to those with greater purchase. The vehicle, available from â‚Ź11,650, is also equipped with an anti-skid system designed to maximise safety while negotiating descents or turning in low grip conditions. The successor to the car appeared more than 29 years ago, the Fiat Panda 4x4 offers a choice of two engines: one petrol and one diesel.

La Vila are good value IT was an entertaining home game at La Vila as they took on Les Arbelles in the fight for points to win the championship. La Vila opened the scoring after three minutes with a penalty by Nacho Luche, before a series of missed tackles and a quick counter attack from the away side led to the first try of the match. The home side responded by attacking the opposition line with numerous drives through the forwards, but they were unable to find a gap and get over the try line. After losing possession at the breakdown Javier Calvo scored a second breakaway for Les Arbelles, putting them further ahead at 3-10. La Vila refused to give in, and a superb counter attack from Matias Lamboblia in the 33rd minute brought the home side back into the game with a well deserved try. With the

first half about to end Juanma Quirante made a spectacular run through the field, resulting in a converted try to put Vila 15-10 ahead before half time. After the break the Vileros began to show more composure and control, Juanma Quirante scoring another penalty to put the home side further ahead. Les Abelles defended well, but another spectacular Vila break, this time from Fernando Lopez, gave the Vileros another try and a comfortable 2310 lead. With 10 minutes to go, Les Abelles were still attacking, in the hope of coming within a losing bonus point, and went over the try line again to bring the score to 23-15. A final score of 26-15 takes La Vila up to second in the table, and they now look forward to their next match against Poble Nou on December 1.

Washinkai Karate students strike gold LAWRENCE PHILLIPS and Taylor Brown last week became Spanish National Champions of Self Defence and Kata in a competition held at Javea Sports Centre. Washinkai Karate won an incredible 18 medals and three further awards. Lawrence Phillips

and Taylor Brown became Spanish champions by defending themselves against a series of attacks carried out with both bare hands and weapons while their instructor Geovanny Sanchez won the title of Spanish National Champion of Kata (forms).

With only seven competitors Washinkai still managed to finish in overall third place at the end of the championships The competition was staged by the Spanish National Association of Self Defence in collaboration with Javea Sports Council.

Chilly wind but warm hearts THERE was a strong, chilly wind blowing when 40 members of Ifach teed off for a team Stableford to support the people of the Philippines affected by Hurricane Hiatal. Tough task for BBC IT was another tough task this week as Benitachell Bowls Club (BBC) were away to league leaders San Luis in the Winter League. In a close, competitive game, where BBC led on four of the five rinks early in the second half of the game, San Luis were not to be denied and fought back to win on four of the rinks, resulting in a final score of 10-2. However, BBC’s Berleen team showed the

way, leading from start to finish in an impressive 22-9 victory. In the Northern League it was another great win for BBC Lions away to Bonalba, securing eight points and adding 23 shots. This was the Lions fifth 8-2 win in a row and they now top the table by 10 points. The BBC Tigers’ recent good run came to an end in a difficult away match against El Cid Spears,

where they managed just two points. Despite this setback they remain third in the league table. It was a disappointing week for the BBC Jaguars picking up just two points against an inform Javea Green Quartz. It was also a difficult week in the Challenger League where BBC’s three CAT Challenger teams came away empty-handed. In the Saturday Winter Fours League, Mavericks are still unbeaten and out in front by two points from Wishing Stars, followed by Whispering Cid and Rollin Stones who both have a game in hand, in the Winter Fours League, sponsored by Dragon Insurance Group and Direkt Optik.
