EUROVENT TECHNOLOGY
Both the continuous development of construction technologies and the increasing diversity of applications for high vapour-permeable membranes create the need to use multiple advanced production technologies. We would like to introduce them to you in more detail.
Eurovent® roof membranes are characterised by high durability and resistance to atmospheric factors. The high-quality polypropylene nonwoven fabrics we use feature a high-density and uniform distribution of ultra-fine fibres, which results in excellent mechanical performance – a key requirement in roofing applications.
THERMOBONDING
Thermal lamination technology – one of the oldest but also one of the best methods used in the production of three-layer roof membranes made from uniform raw materials.
Thermobonding consists of thermally bonding multiple plastic layers that form the laminate using high temperature and the pressure of lamination rollers. This technology uses no additional substances other than high temperature, making the resulting laminates very strong and durable. Most importantly, due to the high temperature used in the production process, the materials are to some extent heat-treated, which increases their resistance to extreme temperatures occurring in the roof and attic zone.

Hotmelt bonding technology, less common in construction, but indispensable for producing products with different chemical compositions and varying properties.
It consists of bonding laminate layers using melted hot glue, which is evenly applied to the individual layers and then pressed by lamination rollers. This method is most often used in the production of four-layer roof membranes, where polypropylene nonwovens, a functional film, and a reinforcing polyethylene mesh are combined to provide mechanical strength.

COATING
Coating technologies have been widely used in construction for many years and are continuously being improved.
One variation is FOAM COATING – it consists in applying a layer of polyacrylic or polyurethane foam to a nonwoven fabric, followed by thermal processing. The resulting coating forms a structure with open pores, which allows vapour permeability while maintaining water resistance. This method is primarily used in the production of pitched roof membranes.
Another method is EXTRUSION COATING – it involves applying a polymer layer (e.g. PE, PP) in a molten state onto a nonwoven fabric or another polymer layer. This allows for strong bonding and the creation of multilayer membranes, including reinforced versions.
Coating technologies make it possible to manufacture a wide range of products: reinforced foils, vapour-permeable and vapour barrier membranes, metalised foils, and UV-resistant housewraps.

MICROPOROUS FUNCTIONAL FILM
The heart of roof membranes is a microporous functional film – an extremely thin layer made of a stretched blend of polymer and CaCO3 chalk, in which more than 1 billion micropores per cm² are formed during the extrusion process.
These micropores ensure the product’s high waterproofness and vapour permeability based on capillary action. Water vapour molecules are able to pass through the micropores of the functional film to the outside.

VAPOUR PERMEABILITY – WDD
Vapour permeability is the ability of a building envelope to allow water vapour to pass through it from the inside of the building to the outside.
This parameter is expressed in [g/m²/24h] – it indicates the number of grams of water vapour that can pass through 1 m² of a given building envelope (in this case, a roof membrane or foil) within 24 hours.
Sufficiently high vapour permeability prevents excessive moisture accumulation in the roof structure and protects it from gradual degradation, which may lead to a decline in its performance or even structural failure.
Moreover, high vapour permeability allows for the elimination of the ventilation gap between the membrane and the thermal insulation. It also helps to prevent excessive cooling of the insulation layer, which contributes to reducing energy costs for heating the building.
› Important terms:
• The unit of WDD is [g/m²/24h].
• Characteristic: relative value.
• Vapour permeability value depends on air temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure.

UV RESISTANCE
It is the resistance of the material to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This is one of the key factors that determine the durability of a roof membrane, due to the use of polymers in its production, which are sensitive to UV radiation.
UV stabilising additives reduce the negative impact of radiation on the material. However, prolonged exposure without a roof covering, that is, continuous UV exposure, significantly weakens the material and may reduce the service life of the product. The absence of stabilising additives can lead to physical degradation and a faster decline in the technical properties of the roof membrane.
UV exposure on roof membranes can be divided into two types: direct, which affects the membrane during installation on the roof, and indirect, which occurs, for example, when UV radiation enters the attic through roof windows, hatches, or gaps in the load-bearing structure of the roof covering.
Depending on the duration and intensity of UV exposure, the final roof covering should be installed immediately or no later than 4 weeks after the roof membrane has been applied. Thanks to the UV-resistant additives used in production, this period does not significantly affect the performance of the membrane.
Within 12 weeks of installing the roof membrane, indirect UV exposure should be limited by fully covering the membrane with thermal insulation or by darkening the attic space. Otherwise, incoming UV radiation will negatively affect the properties of the membrane and lead to changes in its structure.
› Important terms:
• Lower UV exposure contributes to a longer-lasting roof membrane.
• To eliminate exposure to harmful UV radiation, the final roof covering should be installed immediately or no later than 4 weeks after the roof membrane has been applied.
• Within 12 weeks of installing the roof membrane, the attic should be darkened or thermal insulation should be installed to reduce the impact of indirect UV radiation on the membrane.

WATERTIGHTNESS
Watertightness is the ability of a material to resist water pressure acting on its surface. This is one of the key parameters defining the performance of a roof membrane. It is achieved through a special functional film placed in the middle layer of the membrane – the most important component.
Watertightness plays a crucial role both during the construction of the roof and throughout the building’s lifetime, as it protects the insulation and internal structure from the harmful effects of water – especially in autumn and spring, when large amounts of condensed water vapour tend to accumulate under the roof covering and drip onto the membrane surface.
n case of any roof damage, watertightness provides temporary protection of the thermal insulation and roof structure against moisture ingress. It is vital that the membrane maintains a high level of water resistance despite the effects of ageing.
According to the DIN standard, a roof membrane is considered watertight if it withstands at least 1.5 m of water column [H2O].
This is why it is recommended for the initial watertightness value to exceed 2–3 m H2O, to ensure durability and compensate for the natural ageing process. Even in conditions of long-term ageing, a 50% drop in watertightness would still keep the membrane within the DIN-compliant performance range.
› Important terms:
• The unit is metres [m] H2O
• DIN waterproofing standard – minimum 1.5 m H2O
TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE
This refers to a material’s ability to withstand extreme temperatures. On a roof, this includes high summer heat and sub-zero winter conditions.
In ventilated pitched roofs, the temperature under the roof covering typically does not exceed 80 °C. For this reason, the DIN standard defines the test range for roof membranes from –40 °C to +80 °C.
Eurovent® roof membranes are tested in a wider temperature range – up to +120 °C. Roof membranes made of polypropylene remain stable from –40 °C up to +100 °C, and high-performance membranes maintain their properties even at +120 °C in short-term conditions, with no significant changes observed in material behaviour.
The softening point of polypropylene is above 120 °C, while its melting point is ≥ 160 °C.
When it comes to temperature resistance, the key factor is a properly functioning roof ventilation system, which must be continuous from the eaves to the ridge. If the ventilation is installed correctly, the service life and thermal durability of the membrane are significantly improved over time.
› Important terms:
• Eurovent® membranes are tested in a wider range from –40 °C up to +120 °C.
• Ventilation in pitched roofs must be properly installed and unobstructed from eaves to ridge.
MONOLITHIC FUNCTIONAL FILM
In contrast to microporous films, a monolithic functional film has a uniform, non-porous structure.
It is a single layer of material with consistent density and evenly distributed properties throughout its volume. Vapour permeability is achieved through a chemical interaction with water molecules – the polymer becomes a breathable layer that enables vapour transmission.

VAPOUR-PERMEABLE ROOF FOILS
Low vapour-permeable roof foils are used as an underlay layer in ventilated, non-sarked pitched roofs — both insulated and non-insulated.
When used in insulated roofs, it is essential to maintain a ventilation gap of at least 5 cm between the foil and the thermal insulation — which means the foil must not come into direct contact with the insulation layer.
Thanks to the integrated PE reinforcing mesh, Eurovent® low vapour-permeable roof foils offer exceptionally high tear resistance and durability against mechanical damage.
Among the range of roof foils, Eurovent® ANTICON stands out by offering additional protection against condensation. It is recommended for roof renovations or thermal upgrades from the outside, especially when access to the attic is difficult or impossible.

VAPOUR DIFFUSION RESISTANCE
The Sd value (vapour diffusion resistance) defines the equivalent air layer thickness (in metres) that offers the same resistance to water vapour diffusion as the tested material.
The lower the Sd value, the more vapour-permeable the material is; the higher the value, the greater the resistance to vapour. For example, Sd = 40 m means the material provides the same resistance to vapour diffusion as 40 metres of air.
The Sd value is absolute, meaning it is not influenced by external factors such as temperature, air pressure, or humidity.
This makes it possible to clearly determine whether the product functions as a vapour-permeable layer or a vapour control layer.
› Important terms:
• The Sd unit is expressed in metres [m].
• Characteristic: absolute value – independent of external conditions.
CLASSIFICATION OF VCL
Eurovent® vapour control products are classified according to their Sd value (vapour diffusion resistance), which allows for precise selection based on the specific requirements of roof and wall assemblies.

COMPOSITION OF VAPOUR CONTROL LAYERS
The Eurovent® vapour control membrane line includes two structural types: two-layer membranes and reinforced three-layer membranes, characterised by increased tear resistance.
Eurovent® active vapour control layers are characterised by a vapour diffusion resistance (Sd value) ranging from 4 m to 10 m.
They feature a special functional film that prevents uncontrolled water vapour transmission while allowing controlled diffusion – small amounts of vapour are able to migrate, enabling the drying of the structure and preventing condensation. This unique property defines the membrane as “active” vapour control.
Active vapour control layers protect against vapour from the interior, preventing condensation and ensuring a healthy indoor climate.
This group includes the reinforced vapour control membrane Eurovent® CLIMA X, certified by the Passive House Institute, which ensures the highest quality and energy efficiency for passive construction.

CONDENSATION OF WATER VAPOUR
This phenomenon occurs when water vapour present in the air condenses and settles on surfaces as liquid water. Air contains a certain amount of humidity, and when environmental conditions change – for example, when the temperature drops or humidity increases – condensation occurs, resulting in the formation of water droplets. In building envelopes, the key factor is the location of the dew point – the point at which the temperature, air humidity, and pressure allow vapour to condense.
The simplest way to shift the dew point outside the building envelope is to maintain a consistently high temperature on the interior side (inside the building or attic) and to prevent excessive humidity by ensuring effective ventilation adjusted to the level of indoor moisture. This is especially important in closed buildings where finishing work involving wet processes (e.g., screeds, plasters) is still in progress.
Seasons like autumn, winter, and spring naturally reduce the indoor air temperature, increasing the risk of condensation. In extreme cases, it may be necessary not only to raise the indoor temperature but also to intensify ventilation by opening windows and doors, which generates significant heating costs.
For this reason, it is recommended to carry out interior finishing work in closed buildings during warmer months, when higher ambient temperatures naturally reduce condensation risks. In such conditions, opening windows and doors boosts ventilation, gradually evaporating moisture from plasters and screeds without the need for artificial heating.
In addition to these considerations, proper selection and installation of waterproofing and ventilation materials in the roof and attic areas are essential. Ensuring the airtightness and ventilation of the roof structure is crucial to maintain effective performance and avoid condensation-related problems.
This can be achieved using roof membranes and foils, ventilation and ridge protection elements, eaves accessories, and a variety of specialised sealing tapes for each of these areas.
› Important terms:
• Avoid wet construction work in buildings during winter.
• Ensure correct ventilation, especially in renovated or adapted areas.
VAPOUR-TIGHT BARRIERS
Vapour-tight membranes and foils with a water vapour diffusion resistance (Sd) of ≥ 100 m.
They serve as a barrier against the transfer of water vapour from the interior of the building towards the attic, ceiling, or walls.
Their exceptionally high vapour resistance makes them ideal for areas with a high risk of condensation, where full moisture protection is required.
One of the key products in this group is the Eurovent® AKTIV X 100 synthetic vapour control membrane, designed specifically for roof renovations carried out from the outside, where access to the attic interior is limited or entirely restricted.

PASSIVE HOUSE
Kaplityny, Poland | Eurovent® HOME PRO
A passive house was built in Kaplityny using the complete Eurovent® system.
The wall structure was protected with the Eurovent® HOME PRO SK2 wind barrier membrane, which, thanks to its two integrated adhesive strips, allows for fast and airtight installation of overlaps.
On the roof slope, the four-layer, highly vapour-permeable membrane Eurovent® STRONG was applied. It features exceptional mechanical resistance, which is especially valued in prefabricated roof constructions.
On the interior side, the Eurovent® CLIMA X reinforced active vapour control layer was used. It is certified by the Passive House Institute, confirming its effectiveness for energy-efficient and passive house applications.
A positive result in the Blower Door Test confirmed the building’s high air tightness and compliance with energy-efficient construction standards.
FACADE WITH STANDING SEAM
METAL CLADDING
Facades finished with standing seam metal cladding require special protection against moisture and condensation, especially when the cladding is installed directly onto a solid surface such as sarking.
In such applications, it is recommended to use a separation mat or a housewrap integrated with a separation mesh that creates a buffer layer between the metal and the wall assembly.
Eurovent® METALLIC – a highly vapour-permeable housewrap combined with an 8 mm separation mesh. It forms a separation layer that allows efficient drainage of condensation, ensures continuous ventilation, and dampens noise caused by facade movements – especially during wind or rainfall.
Eurovent® MATT – an 8 mm three-dimensional separation mat that can be combined with any Eurovent® membrane to create an independent drainage, ventilation, and separation layer.
Using these solutions effectively protects closed metal facade systems against moisture accumulation, condensation, corrosion, and noise, as well as thermal stress – significantly increasing the durability and reliability of standing seam metal cladding systems.

REACTION TO FIRE
Harmonised European fire safety standards form a unified set of regulations accepted across all EU member states. This enables the free circulation of construction products tested under the same standards, without the need for separate national testing.
Reaction to fire
If a fire finds enough combustible materials, it can rapidly spread across the affected area. Therefore, it is crucial to use materials with limited flammability on key interior surfaces such as ceilings and walls.
The use of flame-retardant materials significantly slows down fire spread and reduces the product’s contribution to the fire.
The European Standard EN 13501-1 defines the fire performance classification criteria for construction products, evaluating their behaviour in terms of flame spread, contribution to fire, smoke production, and flaming droplet formation.
Declaration of Performance
The “DoP” is the key document usually required by local authorities to confirm that a construction product meets the necessary fire performance criteria.

Tile clips for ceramic and concrete roof tiles ensure durable and reliable fixing of the roof covering.
They allow for stable placement of roof tiles, protecting them from being lifted by strong wind gusts. The use of clips significantly increases the roof’s resistance to wind suction forces, thereby extending the durability and reliability of the entire roof structure. They are indispensable in critical roof areas such as valleys, ridges, eaves, chimneys, and roof edges.
› Application of Eurovent® Tile fixing by roof tile clips
WIND ZONES IN POLAND
According to the PN-EN 1991-1-4 standard, the territory of Poland is divided into three wind zones that determine the intensity of wind impact on buildings.
Although the standard defines load values, it does not clearly specify the fastening rules for roof coverings such as roof tiles in relation to suction and lateral wind forces.
2
3
Wind load zones in Poland *schematic map
In roofing practice, the roof surface is divided into three installation areas, depending on the tile’s location on the roof and the building’s position within a given wind zone:
Central roof area:
1 Wind zone 1 - clip every 4 tiles
2 Wind zone 2 - clip every 3 tiles
3 Wind zone 3 - clip every 2 tiles
Intermediate area:
1 2 Wind zones 1 i 2 - clip every 3 tiles
3 Wind zone 3 - clip every 2 tiles
Edge / perimeter area:
1 2 Strefy wiatrowe 1 i 2 - clip every 2 dachówki
3 Wind zone 3 - każda Tile
Additional recommendations:
It is considered good practice to fasten each roof tile in critical roof areas such as:
Eaves and ridge zones; Roof edges; Areas around chimneys and roof windows; Roof valleys.
If the roof pitch is more than 55°, it is recommended to secure every roof tile with a clip – regardless of the wind zone, building location, or tile position on the roof surface.

STANDING SEAM CLIPS
Standing seam clips are fastening elements used for installing roof and facade coverings made of flat sheet metal finished with standing seams.
They provide durable, stable, and secure attachment of metal sheets to the substrate, protecting the structure against wind suction forces and snow loads. Proper selection and placement of clips are crucial for the reliability and long service life of the entire roof surface.
Two basic types of standing seam clips are defined:
Fixed clip – prevents any movement of the metal sheet relative to the substrate. It creates a so-called fixed fastening zone, usually located near the ridge or eaves, where complete immobilization of the covering is required.
Sliding clip – designed to allow limited movement along the length of the sheet, compensating for dimensional changes resulting from thermal expansion of the material. It is used in so-called sliding zones, typically in the central part of the roof surface, preventing the sheet from warping or deforming due to temperature variations.

*Size available on request.
ASSEMBLY OF STANDING SEAM CLIPS
Depending on the roof slope and technical requirements, two types of installation zones are used: fixed and sliding, arranged along the entire length of the roof covering.
Proper selection of clip types and their placement is crucial for the durability and reliability of the roofing, especially in relation to wind suction forces and snow loads. Correctly positioned clips ensure stable fastening of the metal sheets and eliminate the risk of damage caused by the thermal movement of the material.
Fixed zones – A strip 1–3 m wide where fixed clips are used. This zone provides permanent fastening of the roof covering.
Sliding zones – A strip where sliding clips are used, depending on the roof slope. This zone allows limited movement of the roof covering caused by the material’s thermal expansion.

EAVES
Ventilation and protection elements designed for proper construction and finishing of the eaves area in pitched roofs, as well as for securing ventilation inlets within the roof and facade.
These products play a key role in the correct operation of a ventilated roof, they allow free air circulation, which prevents water vapour condensation, lowers the temperature beneath the roof covering, and significantly extends the service life of the roof structure. In addition, they effectively protect the roof space from birds, rodents, insects, wind-blown leaves, and debris that may block the ventilation channels.
Ensuring effective air intake in the eaves area and free air exhaust at the ridge is fundamental to the durability and reliability of the entire roof system.

INSTALLATION GUIDELINES FOR SNOW GUARD SYSTEMS
Spacing of snow guard brackets:
The density of snow guard brackets should comply with the standards defined by snow load zones. In zones 1, 2, and 3 – spacing every 60 cm. In zones 4, 5, and at altitudes above 1000 m a.s.l. – spacing every 40 cm.
Spacing of snow guard brackets for individual snow load zones:
Spacing every 60 cm
Spacing every 40 cm
Maximum bracket spacing: 80 cm – allowed only if the distance to the ridge does not exceed 3 m on a roof slope with 40° inclination.
For roof slopes longer than 6.5 m, it is recommended to install two rows of snow guard grates or snow guard pipes.
For slopes over 8 m in length and an inclination of more than 40°, it is recommended to install two rows of Eurovent® SNOWSTOP snow breakers above the snow guard grates or pipes.
Snow guard barrier width 2 m – Metal roof tile

INSTALLATION GUIDELINES – SNOWSTOP
Snow splitters can serve as an alternative snow protection solution to traditional snow guard grates, pipes, or log systems.
To ensure their effectiveness, it is recommended that they are distributed across the entire roof slope. Their layout and quantity should be determined based on the roof pitch and the snow load zone where the building is located.
The table below specifies the exact number of snow guards required per square metre of roof surface, depending on the slope angle and the snow load acting on the roof.
Recommended number of snow splitters Eurovent® SNOWSTOP per 1 m² of roof surface (pcs/m²):

VENTOS X – A REAL ADVANTAGE
According to the latest guidelines, the minimum diameter of ventilation ducts for rooms such as bathrooms, kitchens, or toilets should not be less than 150 mm.
The Eurovent® VENTOS X roof vent provides efficient and safe ventilation, even in buildings with enhanced energy performance. Thanks to its 150 mm connection diameter, it ensures smooth and stable airflow without the risk of blockages or draft fluctuations.
It does not require additional insulation and effectively prevents condensation, moisture buildup inside the duct, and the development of mould or fungi, common issues associated with smaller-diameter roof vents.

VENTILATION IN BUILDINGS
Proper ventilation in houses and apartments ensures a comfortable indoor climate and high air quality.
It protects against mould growth and moisture-related damage. A well-functioning ventilation system effectively removes carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, excess humidity, kitchen odours, tobacco smoke, and chemical pollutants. As a result, it reduces the risk of health issues such as headaches, respiratory irritation, decreased concentration, and allergic reactions.
An efficient ventilation system provides continuous air exchange without causing drafts, while also supporting effective heat energy management within the building.
Modern ventilation solutions allow for precise airflow control, reducing heat loss and significantly improving the building’s energy efficiency—particularly important in low-energy and passive house construction.
Ineffective or poorly functioning ventilation leads to the accumulation of harmful substances in indoor air, which negatively affects the health of occupants and the technical condition of the building.
In poorly ventilated spaces, pollutants such as excess moisture, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), dust, allergens, and tobacco smoke accumulate. Their presence can cause discomfort, headaches, respiratory irritation, and reduced concentration. Over time, these pollutants may exacerbate allergy symptoms, and some have carcinogenic properties.
Excess humidity resulting from ineffective ventilation promotes moisture buildup in building partitions, deteriorates the insulation properties of materials, and leads to condensation of water vapor, creating ideal conditions for the growth of mould and fungi.
Fresh, oxygenated air free from unpleasant odours and pollutants.
Adjustable ventilation intensity, energy savings, and noise reduction.
No drafts or heat loss, proper air circulation.
Well-being, improved focus, and healthy indoor air quality.
Excessive amounts of water vapour, carbon dioxide, and other gases generated inside the building.
Formation of mould and fungi, accumulation of allergens and viruses.
Increased air humidity – excessive condensation of water vapour.
Chronic fatigue, lack of concentration, and illnesses.
TYPES OF VENTILATION
There are several fundamental ventilation systems used in construction:
Natural (Gravity) Ventilation
The simplest and most economical air exchange system used in residential buildings. It operates on the principle of natural draft – used air is removed from rooms due to the pressure difference between the indoor space and the top of the ventilation duct. Fresh air enters through window and door frame leaks or through special air inlets. This system does not allow regulation of ventilation intensity and is fully dependent on weather conditions (external temperature and wind strength).
1 Exhaust 2 Gaps
A solution that combines gravity ventilation with mechanical ventilation. Under normal conditions, the system operates passively – just like standard gravity ventilation. When weather conditions are unfavorable or when there’s a higher demand for air exchange, mechanical support is activated to boost airflow. Hybrid ventilation allows for partial control of air exchange intensity, offering better comfort and efficiency at a lower operating cost than full mechanical ventilation.
1 Exhaust 2 Supply 3 Gaps
Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery
An advanced supply and exhaust ventilation system equipped with a heat exchanger (recuperator) that recovers energy from the exhaust air. This solution ensures a constant supply of fresh, filtered air and significantly reduces heat loss. The system allows full control over air parameters – temperature, humidity, and cleanliness. Heat recovery ventilation is primarily used in airtight, modern energy-efficient and passive buildings.
