EUGENE MARATHON EVENT GUIDE

APRIL 2426, 2026

RUNNING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF LEGENDS

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS

WELCOME

Welcome to the Eugene Marathon Weekend!

This year, as the Eugene Marathon Weekend sets new participation and fundraising records, I want to recognize this event as an increasingly important point of connection for participants, volunteers, and our entire community.

In every aspect of the Eugene Marathon Weekend, you will see people supporting people. You will see hundreds of volunteers handing out race bibs and t-shirts, students and community groups passing out water and Gatorade, and a friendly face extending their arms to hang a welldeserved medal around your neck when you cross the finish line. You'll hear words of encouragement between runners, see tears and hugs and smiles at the finish, and spot signs — lots and lots of goofy, sincere, and funny signs that represent the overwhelming support of families and friends for those who have taken on this challenge.

Each of you has your own reasons for running, and this event has space for all of you. Whatever brought you to the starting line – a personal milestone, fundraising for one of our Charity Teams, a desire to push your own personal boundaries – that journey is already something to be proud of. And when you enter Hayward Field and stride toward the same finish line that has been crossed by more legends of our sport than any other, every mile of that journey will have been worth it.

Throughout this weekend, please join me in recognizing and thanking those who provide the critical services that allow this event to take place. Our law enforcement officers, traffic control teams, and medical services all work together to keep this event safe for everyone, and without the support of the City of Eugene, the City of Springfield, and the University of Oregon, this event would not be possible. We are deeply grateful for the support of these amazing partners.

On behalf of everyone at the Eugene Marathon, thank you for choosing to make this event part of your journey. Now go do something amazing!

START CORRALS

1

GET READY TO START 1

Head to the Start line on 15th Ave. and locate your Corral. Find the sign that corresponds with your age group: Fire Quackers (ages 10+); Quackers (ages 7-9); Waddlers (ages 6 and under, must run with adult chaperone). Direct your child to the appropriate Corral. All children running with a parent should be in the Waddlers Corral, regardless of age. There will be a staggered start with each corral starting a few minutes apart. After the start, head to the finish line through the North gates at Hayward Field.

2

CROSSING THE FINISH LINE

As participants cross the finish line, they will continue walking forward on the track to follow the path on the track toward the tunnel. They will be escorted by volunteers off of the track and through the tunnel to Finisher Field, where they will wait at one of the four color-coded towers that correspond with the color of their bib. Along the way, all participants will receive their finisher medals, water bottle and race bag. Kids who run with an adult will also exit through the tunnel onto Finisher Field.

3

PARENT REUNION AREA

Parents can watch their kids cross the finish line and receive their finisher medal on the track. As kids go through the tunnel, parents can make their way up to the concourse, then go down the staircase to Finisher Field. The staircase is located just behind Sections 120-121. Locate the specific color tower that matches your child's bib to reunify with your child. Parents will not be able to get onto the track from the stands. If you cannot locate your child, go to the information desk located on the concourse.

For any event-related questions, lost & found or if you are separated from your child, go to the Information Desk.

CELEBRATING THE JOURNEY

2026 Eugene Marathon Medals Commemorate Each Runner's Unique Path To The Finish Line

When each participant in the 2026 Eugene Marathon crosses the finish line at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon on the last weekend in April, that chapter in their running journey will be complete.

Whether it be their very first 5K, a PR-goal marathon, or a comeback half marathon; each training journey looks a little different now and will mean something different on race day.

And when they receive their finisher medal following the Marathon, Half Marathon, Eugene 5K or Kid’s Duck Dash presented by OCCU, a commemoration of that journey will hang around their necks; it will signify the commitment, perseverance and discipline they displayed during their training cycle.

The special design element of the 2026 medal is a subtle rolling wave to represent the Willamette River. Much like the river, each participant has a unique journey with winding paths both calm and consistent, at times tumultuous, and at times breathtaking. All marathon and half marathon runners cross the river twice, and the marathon course runs alongside the river for over half of the race. On the back of the marathon and half marathon medals is a detailed city map with the course following a raised outline above the city and the Willamette River.

The 2026 Eugene Marathon logo appears on the front of the medal as a nod to the individual runner’s accomplishment in completing the race; and a subtle Eugene Marathon footprint shines in the background, depicting those who have run in this place throughout history, and that each 2026 finisher has just Run in The Footsteps of Legends.

CELEBRATING THE JOURNEY

The remaining 2026 finisher medals — including the Eugene 5K and Kid’s Duck Dash presented by OCCU and the Krusteaz DoubleStack Challenge — keep with the same theme of focusing on the journey and the impact that running has on each person who finishes a race at the 2026 Eugene Marathon.

RUNNING FOR A REASON

Eugene Marathon’s Charity Program Doubles in Size and Fundraising Dollars

When the 2026 Eugene Marathon, Half Marathon and Eugene 5K presented by OCCU sold out in mid-January, there was only one way for participants to get into those races — by joining a charity team through the event’s charity program: Run for a Reason presented by Ronald McDonald House.

Immediately following the sell-out, all 20 charity teams had a sudden influx of runners and over the next few months, 1,000+ new runners signed up for a charity bib in exchange for their commitment to fundraise. Now, with two more weeks to go until race weekend, the teams have already raised over $535,000 with three more weeks to fundraise.

That is exponential growth since 2022, when the Eugene Marathon returned to Hayward Field at the University of Oregon after a threeyear hiatus and the Run for a Reason program returned as well: with 10 teams, 115 runners and a fundraising total of $75,000.

The program saw growth in both 2023 and 2024, raising over $175,000 in 2023 and $233,000 in 2024. Then, in 2025, the event sold out in March and a significant jump was made to 23 teams, 497 runners, and over $284,000 fundraised.

Enter 2026; following the January sell-out, runners from all over the US started learning about the charities and joining a team to get their bib. Combined with the runners who had already committed to a team prior to the January sell-out, a total of 1477 participants are signed up to Run for a Reason on the following teams: A Family for Every Child, Boys & Girls Club of Emerald Valley, CASA Lane County, Children’s Cancer Research, Circle of Friends, Community Supported Shelters, Fanconi Research, Functional Foundations, Girls on the Run Greater Oregon, Jhpiego, Kid’s First, Parkinson’s Foundation, Portland Rugby, Relief Nursery, Ronald McDonald House, Rose Women’s Choir, Sponsors Inc., Susan G Komen, and Two Daughters Foundation.

“The early sell out made a huge impact this year,” said Jess Ubel, Development Director at Heartfelt House, Ronald McDonald House Oregon. “And I would say the success of this year’s program for us, has been a combination of the sell out and that our team has such a dedicated group of returning runners along with supporting business partners.”

RUNNING FOR A REASON

Ubel’s team and fundraising numbers have also seen huge growth over the last five years, from $50,000 in 2022 to over $150,000 in 2024 and now with 325 members, she’s hoping her team will get close to $200K in 2026.

Boys & Girls Club of Emerald Valley has also seen huge growth since it joined the Run for a Reason program in 2023.

“When we first started we were seeing 30-50 runners sign up each year and raising about $15,000,” Boys & Girls Club of Emerald Valley Executive Director Shelley Ivey said. “This year has been very different for us. In January, when the marathon sold out, we had tons of interest and we now have over 170 runners who have already raised over $71,000, which will go toward summer camp scholarships.”

“It’s been really tremendous to see the national reach that the marathon has as a destination event,” Ivey continued. “We have runners from all over the US and many of them joined our team because they have connections to a Boys & Girls Club in their own area, so they were really excited to support our team.”

At Ronald McDonald House, we provide essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare. Click here to get involved locally today! This year, 320+ runners, 25 businesses, and more than 1,000 donors came together to ensure families have a place to stay strong at one of our four Ronald McDonald Houses in Oregon.
