FALL GUIDE 2021 The days are growing shorter and the nights are growing longer — it’s the perfect time to take in the plethora of arts and seasonal events happening right here in the City Beautiful. This year’s Fall Guide covers arts, seasonal and Halloween happenings from now through Nov. 16, which is when our Holiday Guide appears to pick up the thread of local fun. Though this time of year is usually associated with the year winding down and leaves falling from trees, our local arts scene is blooming brilliantly right about now. Theater, dance, classical music, opera and visual arts groups throughout the city are producing a wealth of new work and offering an autumnal taste of can’t-miss creativity. Though you’ll sweat yourself into dehydration if you try to wear a flannel and sip thoughtfully on hot apple cider or mulled wine, there are plenty of fall-themed events to get you in the spirit of the season that

don’t require sticking your head into the pumpkin-spice jar at a Starbucks. (But if that’s your jam, go for it. We’ve got nothing against nutmeg.) Oktoberfests, corn mazes and pumpkin patches aplenty will give you a much needed-seasonal jolt. And speaking of jolts, it’ll be Halloween before you know it and if spooks and scares appeal to you, you’re in the thick of it here in the land of the Skunk Ape. Local theme parks are going all out with Halloween Horror Nights and Howl-O-Scream; drive-through haunts have made a welcome return, and there are plenty of local frights to get the adrenaline pumping. As we head from summer to not-so-summer, there’s plenty to do and see, so enjoy it mindfully.
