America’s current most famous fragile man-child comedian stayed true to stereotypical form at his stand-up performance at UCF’s Addition Finanacial Arena, berating students for recording the show on their phones, calling them “embarrassing,” “morons” and “retarded,” and saying, “That’s why the world is gonna end in 25 years.” Orlando Weekly readers responded with a mix of LOLs, “whatev”s and tough love. @Cody Arkadie I think I just became a Pete Davidson fan. @Patrick Webb Is he wrong though? Local Democratic representative files ambitious renewable energy bill in the state legislature. Thirty years from now, maybe, just

maybe, Florida will be operating with 100 percent clean energy. That’s the goal of two lawmakers who are trying for the second time to push legislation calling for all renewable energy by 2050. Rep. Anna Eskamani, D-Orlando, filed HB 97 last week, basically refiling a bill she put out back in March. Eskamani, along with State Sen. José Javier Rodríguez, D-Miami, hopes the bill will become law this time around. The bill calls for public agencies to ditch fossil fuels and emphasizes the use of solar power as a renewable source instead. Its short-term goal is to have 40 percent of Florida’s electricity come from renewable energy sources by 2030.

Downtown public library to offer passport application services. Starting next month, you can apply for a passport at the downtown

Orlando Library. (That’s the location at 101 E. Central Blvd., to be exact.) Orange County Library System is offering the service for those who have more free time on evenings and weekends – Saturday will be one of the days offered for passport applications. The good news is you don’t need a library card to apply for a passport at the library. The bad news is there’s an additional $35 processing fee for using the library, in addition to the standard passport application fees. For more about passport applications, call the library’s main information line at 407-835-7323.

AT&T workers’ strikes come to Orlando. Hundreds of AT&T workers went on strike in Orlando, joining more than 20,000 workers across the southeastern United States represented by the Communications Workers of America union. Around 400 workers attended picket lines at nine central Florida locations: eight in Orlando and one in Lake Mary. Union officials did not discuss numbers, but said their main grievance is that the representatives AT&T has been sending to the bargaining table do not have the authority to make decisions. AT&T fired back saying they have been listening at the bargaining table and strongly disagree with union claims of unfair labor practices. The strike has garnered the support of presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

Disney sued over bugs found in food reportedly served at the Polynesian Village. Three South Florida residents are suing Disney

after they say they got food poisoning from bug-infested lettuce. A trip to the Polynesian Village resort in December 2018 ended with emergency room visits, according to a lawsuit filed in Orange County Circuit Court. The Broward residents claim they felt a green bug crawling in their mouths after eating from the buffet at the “Club Level Lounge.” Their lettuce wraps contained dozens of tiny insects, according to a court complaint. Their suit – which includes pictures of the bugs – claims they sustained permanent (although unspecified) injuries, but Disney officials say they don’t believe the food caused the illness.

Flippers pizza restaurants charged with labor violations by U.S. Department of Labor. Seven Orlando Flippers pizza locations

were part of a U.S. Department of Labor investigation. In total, 11 Central Florida locations were ordered to pay $27,425 in back wages to 70 employees, and pay $1,810 in child labor violation penalties, according U.S. labor officials. The other locations were in Kissimmee, Clermont and Windermere. Investigators determined assistant managers eligible for overtime got flat weekly salaries, overtime hours for tipped workers was calculated incorrectly, and the pizzeria had a 17-year-old minor operate a motor vehicle to make deliveries, which goes against Fair Labor Standards child labor requirements. orlandoweekly.com

INSANITY, HYPOCRISY AND POINTLESS CRUELTY As Trump flails toward the 2020 elections, his actions are becoming more dangerous, more spiteful, more extreme BY JE FFREY C. BILL M A N

Last week, Quinnipiac Univ-

ersity dropped a poll showing the top five Democrats besting Donald Trump by somewhere between nine and 16 points among registered voters. More important, no matter the match-up – whether Biden or Buttigieg – Trump can’t get above 40; his approval rating is stuck at 38 percent. Grain of salt: Quinnipiac, though a toprated pollster, tends to be one of Trump’s poorer-performing polls. As of Friday, FiveThirtyEight pegs the president’s approval rating at 42.2 percent among registered or likely voters, and 40.2 percent among all adults. Presidents don’t win re-election with those kinds of numbers. If you’re working Trump’s campaign, the silver lining is that he becomes a better politician when he has a clear enemy. The 2020 campaign will be defined by Trump’s efforts to make the Democratic nominee as despised – or at least feared – as he is. But what should keep his pollsters up at night is how static those numbers are; they’ve barely budged since January 2018, even amid a growing economy. Trump, pathologically craving the applause of diehards in crowds and on cable television, has always managed to trample on his own good news, whether through draconian immigration policies or crazy-making, headline-grabbing tweets. He’s dominated each and every news cycle of his 136 weeks in office – increasingly, it seems, to his own detriment. And all of a sudden, the economy no longer looks so rosy. The trade war with China, something he famously promised would be easy to win, looks like a massive own goal. The Department of Labor sharply rolled back its job-creation estimates. Economists are increasingly worried about a recession. And while Trump’s presidency has always been grueling, this past week was especially frenetic, especially frantic, especially cruel, carrying more than a whiff of resentment and cold-heartedness and desperation.

It’s almost as if Trump has figured out how fucked he really is. I tried to pin down one story that summed this up. But I think it’s more useful to focus on the forest than the trees. We could start with the not-so-unusual batch of insanity: the report about Trump wanting to nuke a hurricane, for instance; or the news that Trump had invented from whole cloth a story about “high-level” Chinese officials asking to restart trade talks in an effort to juice the flagging stock market. From there, we could jump into the parfor-the-course hypocrisy: his campaign’s fundraising email suggesting that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s call to abolish the Electoral College favored “Coastal Elites and Liberal Mega Donors” – with the special racist touch, “This is our country, not theirs” – though Trump himself had once called the Electoral College a “disaster for our democracy”; or Trump’s denigration of possible primary challenger Mark Sanford as “Mr. Appalachian Trail,” though Trump reportedly raw-dogged a porn star shortly after his third wife gave birth to their son; or Trump saying that “never in the history of our Country has someone been more thoroughly disgraced or excoriated than James Comey,” as if his Department of Justice weren’t targeting his enemies, as if Trump himself weren’t excoriated in the Mueller report. But let’s skip all that in favor of the pointless damage Trump will inflict on the world in service to his ego. Last week, the administration announced that it would seek to roll back rules limiting the emission of methane, even though fossil fuel companies themselves support those rules. To Trump’s EPA, methane should never have been regulated in the first place. But the rules were enacted under Barack Obama; Trump is eliminating them out of spite. He did the same with car emissions standards, then lashed out at automobile companies that agreed to abide by them anyway.

There’s also the pointless cruelty he’s fostered. Take Ismail B. Ajjawi, a Palestinian who was supposed to start at Harvard this fall but had his visa arbitrarily canceled at the Boston airport because a Border Patrol agent didn’t approve of his friends’ social media posts. Or Ixcell Perez, a 14-year-old who was born in the U.S. but was initially denied re-entry from Mexico to seek treatment for leukemia at Duke Hospital in North Carolina. Her mother wasn’t allowed to visit her until a newspaper reported on the situation last week. Lest you think these stories are outliers or bureaucratic screw-ups, consider this: On Aug. 26, the administration eliminated a protection that allows immigrants to avoid deportation while they or their relatives seek life-saving medical treatment. This is a policy change that will, quite literally, kill people. On Aug. 29, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services issued a separate policy change that will prevent the children of some naturalized citizens who are serving in the military or diplomatic corps and are born in U.S. facilities abroad from automatically becoming citizens – an escalation of Trump’s campaign against birthright citizenship. None of this, of course, will make Americans safer. That’s not the point. The point is to position Trump as a strongman for his supporters to rally around. That was made clear in an Aug. 27 story in the Washington Post, in which officials involved with Trump’s border wall said the president “directed aides to fast-track billions of dollars’ worth of construction contracts, aggressively seize private land and disregard environmental rules” to build hundreds of miles of the wall before the election. And if they need to break the law to do it, Trump reportedly promised to pardon his subordinates, even though “Trump conceded last year in an immigration meeting with lawmakers that a wall or barrier is not the most effective mechanism to curb illegal immigration. … Trump talked about the loud cheers the wall brought at rallies.” It’s no big leap from cruelty toward, well, whatever you call Trump’s reaction to Hurricane Dorian nearing Puerto Rico, which is still recovering after thousands died following his administration’s halfassed hurricane-recovery efforts in 2017: “Puerto Rico is one of the most corrupt places on earth. … And by the way, I’m the best thing that’s ever happened to Puerto Rico!” There are 60 more weeks until the 2020 election. n addition to supplying the world with contrivances of death and destruction, Lockheed Martin appears to be churning out a restaurateur or two as well. Isra Sunhachawi, a systems engineer at the defense firm, along with Quan Van, have made Kai Asian Street Fare a locus of pan-Asian legitimacy. Then there’s Hien Q. Pham, also a Lockheed systems engineer, who feels a need to bring a different Vietnamese restaurant-going experience to the city with Z Asian. “I’m a latecomer to the restaurant game,” he says, “so I have to be different … and better.” But beyond the modern, formica-free, gone-bamboo interior, Z also presents a focused menu of about 40 (not 400) options of nichey specialty fare. It’s part of Pham’s vision to bring “100 percent authentic Vietnamese food” to the masses and that, he most certainly does. He’s especially proud of the soups, all of which were engineered through the application of rigorous testing, analysis and quality control – skills he’s more than familiar with. They’re laboriously cooked for an average of 10 to 12 hours, and what it all boils down to are broths that strictly adhere to the “quality

is our business model” ethic Pham espouses. And like Lockheed’s Hellfire Missile, Z’s bún bò hué ($11.95) absolutely kills. There’s plenty of bovine inspiration (and slices of marinated beef ) in the lemongrass-scented, egg-noodled broth, but Vietnamese ham and pork knuckles manage to make a positively porcine gesture. As great a slurp as that was, the duck noodle soup ($12.95) may very well be Z’s signature dish. It’s another complicated broth the recipe of which both Pham and his wife, Huong Nguyen, closely guard (phishing attempts will be rebuffed). Chopsticking the meat off the duck leg may require a bit of dexterity (my stick skills are pretty basic), but sipping that soup juice was so damned easy – stringy egg noodles, shiitakes, bok choy and all. There were moments in between swigs when we gnawed on crispy chicken wings ($6.50 for five) glossed in sweet and sticky fish sauce and Thai chili. They may not have lived up to the standard of Kai’s Korean-style wings, but these flappers were worthy nonetheless. Gleefully heeding – mid-finger lick, no less – our server’s suggestion to sample the grilled

pork chop combo ($11.50) led to indifference. Textural diversity aside, the chop was a bit charred (oh but those luscious bites of fat!) and neither the eggy Vietnamese meatloaf nor the thin strands of pork skin dusted in seasoned rice powder aroused so much as a shrug. No slight to the dish’s preparation – it just wasn’t our thing. We did take slight issue with the bánh xèo ($11.95). The savory, turmeric-tinged pancake fashioned from rice flour was a beaut to look at, and the fillings of pork, shrimp and sprouts looked just as appealing. But biting into a mildly tough and chewy pancake wasn’t exactly an exercise in palatability. There’s a full bar with some luxe items – evidently some patrons like to pair their pho with high-end cognacs. Me? I’ll take a Vietnamese coffee ($4) anytime. I might even end with chè sâm bo luong ($4.50) – an herbal tea dessert beverage with Chinese dates, seaweed, red beans, jelly and longan fruit (think lychee) floating in the glass. It’s not for everyone, but it’s a lot more interesting than cheesecake. Lastly and, I suppose, fittingly, “Z” holds no place in the Vietnamese alphabet – rather, Pham chose the letter as a signifier for “Generation Z.” Which probably means they’re reading this on their iPhone X. OPENING WEDNESDAY, AUG. 28: Brittany Runs a Marathon It’s been a marathon indeed for actress Jillian Bell, whose TV and movie career up to now has largely consisted of playing supporting characters conveniently named Jillian. In her breakout role, she portrays a 20-something trainwreck who tries to put her life in order by slimming down and getting healthy. But if Brittany succeeds, will she really feel better about herself? Is outward appearance as important as inner character? At the end of the day, that’s for the audience to decide, I guess. But I do find it interesting that a Google search will tell you how much weight Bell lost for the film a whole lot quicker than anything she learned doing it. (R; opens Friday at Enzian Theater, Maitland) It Chapter Two In my mind, I’m pretending this conclusion to the two-part horror saga is actually a mashup of Stephen King’s original story and Neil Simon’s Chapter Two. Why oh why can’t the world ever give me what I really want? Instead, we’re all going to have to

settle for the final battle between the titular monster and the now grown-up members of the heroic Losers’ Club. As opposed to the 700 Club, but there I go writing a better movie again. (R)

MELVINS

Hard-touring sludge godfathers Melvins and glampunk bratfathers Redd Kross are two of the more uncompromising veterans of the alternative-music pantheon, with a healthy disdain for nostalgia and resting on laurels. The twosome are teaming up for a formidable co-headlining tour and they’ll be hitting Melvins’ favored haunt, the Social. The two bands will be swapping members back and forth on tour: Kross bassist Steve McDonald will be playing in Melvins, and fearsome Melvins drummer Dale Crover will sit in with Redd Kross nightly.

Pioneering Northern Irish punk outfit Stiff Little Fingers left an indelible impact on the U.K. music landscape. Their debut album, 1979’s Inflammable Material, was the first independent album to crack the U.K. Top 20, and they ended up influencing everyone from Green Day to Manu Chao. This will be one for the history books.

Pinch us, we must be dreaming! The king of metal has returned! Danish metal legend King Diamond, of Mercyful Fate fame, hit fans with the ol’ one-two this year, announcing both a new album, Institute – his first since 2007 – and a North American tour. And hold on to your monocles and fancy dress gowns, the only chance Florida fans have to pay homage is at the Dr. Phil! The King has been roadtesting new material and a brand-new stage show on the European festival circuit this summer, so expect to be shocked and awed. We’ve seen him live before and we assure you, this is worth it. Get your evil on.

There are few musicians touring today in the same class as Elvis Costello, a living legend whose breakthrough 1977 record, My Aim Is True, set the bar for the first wave of new wave. Four decades later, Costello is still pumping it up, watching the detectives and cleaning up the nation. The British punk turned Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and Officer of the Order of the British Empire (basically royalty) will be blessing Orlando with his presence along with his band, the Imposters. Expect an epic performance and loads of nostalgia meets holy-cow-this-musicis-timeless vibes.

This week, a local indie promoter really talks up a band ahead of their Orlando debut and one bill showcases a spectrum of emotion.

SUPERCRUSH, GAMMA WAVES, SAD HALEN AND PLEASE BE KIND, UNCLE LOU’S, AUG. 25

Orlando concert promoter Josiah Wess always does his due diligence in appropriately promoting all the shows he books under the Bad Balloon banner. But there was something a little extra about the way he hyped Seattle band Supercrush. His online urges on the show were especially gushing, personal even. If you’ve seen enough bills organized by him, you know the guy has good taste. So here’s a street-proven pro tip: If Wess glows about it, heed him. This Supercrush show cemented that. In their Florida debut, Supercrush arrived as a band that’s both aesthetically good and remarkably finished as a live ensemble. Stylistically, this high-functioning quartet take the sighing melodic vastness of Teenage Fanclub and filter it through the gusting haze of My Bloody Valentine. It’s an effective synthesis of power-pop appeal and shoegaze rush, all done with loving revivalist devotion. And it’s the splendor that happens when pretty songs come with jumbo jet power. The show also featured a strong local support cast studded with a couple of bands that have really impressed over the last year or so. I’ve already sung the praises of Sad Halen a couple times so far this year. But Gamma Waves, whom I first noticed at another Bad Balloon show, have gone from good to even better in the year since I last saw them. This band’s thick

Future Teens’ “bummer pop” has the requisite feels but is bent with just enough self-aware humor and levity of heart to not be a wet blanket of emo wallow

and thrilling hard rock is blessed with a Nirvana-esque range where clear melodic instinct comes with mud, volume and bite. And their muscularity now has even more tone and definition. This young Orlando band is one to watch. The only unfamiliar name on the bill was new local act Please Be Kind, the solo vehicle of Trina Perry. Still very much a developmental project, her simple songs are nonetheless feeling, moody and tender affairs.

OSO OSO, THE SIDEKICKS, FUTURE TEENS AND PALM TREE SQUARE, SOUNDBAR, AUG. 28

On the emo spectrum, New York’s Oso Oso occupies the decidedly pop end. In fact, at this point in their career, this vehicle for musician Jade Lilitri is almost beyond that tag with their commercial and open-hearted pop-rock. Although perhaps glossed beyond character to a faceless fault, their songs are nonetheless sturdy and were played with skill. The sparks, however, were elsewhere on the bill.

Like with Ohio’s the Sidekicks, for example, who went all superhero here last year when they completely upstaged their billmates on the Tigers Jaw show at the Abbey. That shine continues to serve this Epitaph Records band well – a band that does pop-punk with a wide, beaming horizon and a frontman who kicks it with stadium-sized flair, making them a perennially worthwhile spectacle. Boston tourmates Future Teens added their own electricity to the party. Although their music is aptly self-described as “bummer pop,” its execution is pure energy and bonhomie. It’s got the requisite feels but is bent with just enough self-aware humor and levity of heart to not be a wet blanket of emo wallow. Once you add in their live exuberance and the dimensionality of two leads and coed vocals, you’ve got a pretty exceptional group. Another reason to love Future Teens? They walk the walk when it comes to making their shows safe spaces. Guitaristsinger Amy Hoffman encouraged anyone who feels unsafe to come find any one of the band members for help. And taking a page out of the smart operating manual of fellow Massachusetts band Speedy Ortiz, Future Teens provide a number centrally displayed at their merch booth where concertgoers can text them on scene for aid. Good, conscientious people there. And finally, young Orlando band Palm Tree Square represented well. By all metrics, they’re a solid emo band. But with nice indie-rock sensibilities and some fancy math flourishes, they’re more than just that. Babymetal may have recently lost one of their three singers – Yuimetal, who headed off for a solo career – but the core duo of Su-metal and Moametal (and their backing band) continue on unbothered, as one of the most successful J-pop (J-metal?) bands currently going. Two of the U.K.’s many notable new wave bands, the Alarm and Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel, make a visit to the Social this week. The Alarm, a Welsh band that never quite made it to the top of the charts but nevertheless has a strong following, have a new album, Sigma, out on their own Twenty First Century Recording Co. label. Meanwhile, Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel – a qualified moniker resulting from Aston’s decades-long feud with his twin brother, Michael – haven’t put out anything new since 2017’s Dance Underwater, but are still able to tour on the strength of their back catalog. Earlier this summer, the Orlando underground music company lost a longtime mainstay, the inimitable Bobby Clock. He left behind countless shell-shocked loved ones, friends and collaborators, in particular one of his longest-running musical accomplices, Danny Feedback (of Crack Rock Opera infamy). The two had been making music together for over a decade, touring, recording and rampaging across local stages – one of Clock’s very last performances was in costume as a “replacement” Danny Feedback during a Crack Rock Opera set. Prior to that, on and off for much of 2019, Feedback was assisting Clock in recording and producing an album by Clock’s outfit the Soda Pops. As a means of processing grief and honoring his friend’s memory, Feedback threw himself into finishing and producing those final recordings and this Friday that album will make its way into the world. For a show that was originally supposed to be a Crack Rock Opera affair, Feedback has instead chosen to honor his friend, and indeed the night will see the release of the Soda Pops album as a free CD, and a Feedback-helmed Soda Pops tribute set to hear these songs once, live. We’re entering the final phase of the beloved Ivanhoe Village theater the Venue. The doors close permanently on Sept. 12 – at least at this location. There’s a full schedule this week, of course, anchored by a one-night-only doubleheader of two shows from VarieTease, the dance-theater hybrid troupe from the mind of Venue owner Blue Star. Spellbound and Rain, the first two installments of a thematic trilogy (along with the troupe’s 2019 Orlando Fringe contribution, Lilly Loses Everything) that draws inspiration from Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy – a technique used as treatment for PTSD. The surreal shows utilize music from the likes of Imogen Heap and Billie Eilish, along with evocative costumes and makeup, to tell a story about how we process trauma. Uncomfortable Brunch: Funny Games FILM

Uncomfortable Brunch makes no bones about what kind of movie you’ll be watching, and Funny Games is one of the most cringe-inducing flicks of the ’90s. A well-off couple and their child arrive at their summer lake house, where two creepy young men take them captive. The family is forced to play a sadistic series of games to stay alive, and the film doesn’t shy away from showcasing graphic violence or the psychic pain the boys inflict on the family. This movie feels like it was written by Bill Hader’s club-hopping Saturday Night Live character, Stefon: It’s got EVERYTHING. Hostages, broken eggs, barking sounds, bloody TVs, sailboats, white after Labor Day and a golf club to the leg. The only thing it doesn’t have is a fourth wall. Director Michael Haneke adds an extra layer of ew by letting his vile characters Peter and Paul acknowledge the audience and control the narrative in a way that leads to nothing a sane human being would expect. Haneke makes a strong statement about our cultural attitudes toward violent media – if you can tolerate the film long enough to stay in the theater. The Enzian un-ironically serves Bloody Mary specials at the Eden Bar, along with a tasty a la carte brunch menu. I don’t listen to your podcast religiously, but as soon as I told my best friend this story, she said, “That’s a question for Dan Savage!” Backstory: I have a monogamous partner who I live with. It’s a heterosexual relationship, but we are both bisexual. That little inkling of homosexuality really drew me to him when we first met. He also told me early on about his previous girlfriend, who looked like a “suicide girl” (tattoos, short skirts, dyed black hair, heavy eye makeup) but had serious issues (they had sex only 10 times in three years). I’m by no means a suicide girl. I’m pretty average looking with natural hair and no tattoos. I don’t wear makeup, and I have an affinity for baggy T-shirts and jeans. I love having sex but rarely do I present myself as “sexy.” Recently I learned that my boyfriend follows hundreds of women on Instagram, and 95 percent of them look absolutely nothing like me. (Remember the hot suicide-girl girlfriend? They mostly look like her.) It made me really upset. I felt insecure about myself. I felt distrustful of his positive comments about how I look, like he doesn’t actually think I’m sexy. It certainly doesn’t help that I want to have sex way more often than he does. He’s always “tired.” I was angry at him and instantly craving to go back to a sexual relationship with past partners who thought I was the bee’s knees. He has no idea why I would be upset. He says he feels like he’s supporting these women and that they feel “empowered” by all the men leaving comments like “Show me your boobs” and “I wanna shove my cock in you.” He says he deleted his Instagram just to make me happy, but I still feel shitty about the whole thing. Am I being oversensitive? Is he being insensitive? Could we be sexually incompatible? At this point, I’m ready to look outside of our relationship for sexual interactions. Your Very Ordinary Instagram Girl I don’t listen to your podcast, either, YVOIG, so that makes us even. (I assume you have a podcast. Everyone does these days.) Zooming out: If we’re going to tell people they shouldn’t be so shallow as to date only their “ideal” physical types and we’re going to tell people they can learn to find a broader array of people attractive and we’re going to tell people they can find a person’s insides so attractive that they warm to their outside – and it’s mostly men people we tell these things, as women people seem less hung up on/entitled to their physical ideals – then we also need to tell people not to freak the fuck out when they stumble over evidence that they aren’t their partner’s ideal physical type. Additionally, we need to tell people that just because their partner has a particular type, that doesn’t mean their partner isn’t also attracted to them. Zooming in: You don’t have a great sex life with your boyfriend, YVOIG, as you seem to 40

have mismatched libidos – and one partner “always” being tired isn’t a problem that gets better over time. These are both signs that you probably need to end this relationship. (Already looking outside your monogamous relationship for sexual interactions? Another sign.) But you can end things without having a meltdown about the fact that your soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend was also or usually or, hell, even exclusively with one notable exception (YOU!) attracted to “suicide girl” types. Instead of telling yourself that every compliment your soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend ever gave you was a lie, you could tell yourself that while your soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend definitely has a type, he also found you attractive. Because you are attractive. You’re so attractive that you caught his eye despite not being his usual type. In other words, YVOIG, you don’t have to feed your self-esteem into a shredder as you end this relationship. P.S. Your soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend may have deleted his old Instagram account, but I promise you he quickly created another one. And here’s hoping your soon-to-be-exboyfriend only directs “empowering” comments like “I wanna shove my cock in you” at the kind of people on Instagram who regard those types of comments as “supportive.” They’re out there – men and women – but there are fewer of them out there than too many men, gay and straight, seem to believe there are. I’m a 28-year-old straight guy with one kink: I want to be collared and on a leash. That’s it. In private. Basically, I just want to curl up at my girlfriend’s feet with the leash in her hand. Just me on the floor next to the couch while she watches television, or me on the floor next to the bed while she reads. I’ve had three serious girlfriends, and all three laughed in my face when I told them about this. I’m dating a girl now that I like a lot, and she actually asked me if I had any kinks, and I couldn’t bring myself to tell her. I’m worried about her laughing in my face, too. It would be better if people didn’t have this reaction, of course, but you should brace yourself for it, laugh/shrug it off, and then

proceed to explain why this is such a turnon for you and what’s in it for her. (It sounds like a pretty easy way for her to crank you up when she’s feeling horny.) First, they’ve assumed you have more power in this relationship because you’re older (as if youth and maleness don’t confer their own powers!). And, second, they seem to have assumed you have to be abusing your power somehow. It’s a legitimate concern – power is so often abused, and we should all be thoughtful about it. But “often abused” does not equal “always abused,” TOWNY, and in no way are you abusing this grown-ass 24-year-old man.
