Rodney Howard-Browne, the pastor who was arrested for holding services during the coronavirus pandemic, said last week that he will not reopen his megachurch this weekend so as to protect his congregation from “government tyranny.” However, his lawyer is now saying he also lost his insurance (“Orlando lawyer for pastor who held services during coronavirus outbreak says church lost its insurance,” April 3).

@Songaa Hassun It’s truly the upside-down world when the words “Thank goodness for this insurance company” come from my lips.
@Christopher Shreve How’s that free market treating you there, Rodney?
@Alan B. Borne But, wait. Won’t Jesus take care of this problem?
@John Klein Who needs insurance when you got thoughts and prayers?
@Carolyn Haffner Lewis He most certainly should not get insurance and not have services. Pray from home, people. God listens there as well. Corona is the devil and likes crowds. Stay HOME.
Word came down from on high that Disney, which had paid workers despite park closures, will lay off workers starting April 19 (“As parks stay vacant, Disney will furlough thousands of employees,” April 3). Annual passholders who made a monthly payment between March 14 and April 14 will get a refund, but pass expiration dates will not be extended.
@Simon Krane I’d say pay to the end of May or June, because nothing is going to open for many months.
@Chip Gaudreau They can pay them with the money I keep paying for a pass I can’t use.
@Kris Singh Expiring annual passholder dates will not be extended while the park is closed. I’m not renewing.
Last week we posted a story in which our governor admitted that our unemployment system – which, in fairness, he inherited from his predecessor, Rick Scott – is a trash fire (“DeSantis says he knows Florida’s unemployment assistance website sucks,” April 3). Florida’s rapidly growing ranks of out-of-work people have overwhelmed the poorly designed website so badly that paper applications for benefits will soon be accepted.
@Jacqueline Sergio I’ve been trying to get my application through since LAST SUNDAY. And I still can’t get to the end of the process. Six goddamned days and I’m trying at all times of the day and even into 11 p.m. and midnight. I had insomnia, so I tried at 2 a.m. and NOTHING.
@Christie Miga Those poor people that will have to touch and handle and process all those paper copies. This is going to make for a long process. Perhaps someone should have had the foresight to make a decent website and realize an automatic time-out built in to the site was a bad idea.
