MUSIC ‘I love aggressive music sung by a feminine voice’

Dana Foote, known as her
stage name Sir Chloe, exploded onto the scene last year with the single “Michelle o the debut P Party avors. The project came into existence during oote’s final year of studies at ennington College in Vermont, where she took inspiration from alkan folk music, indie alternative, and living a bicoastal life. ow, Sir hloe is taking its music on the road on a tour with alt- and Portugal. The an. e caught up with oote on becoming a TikTok sensation, going out on tour, and the ast coast music scene. Metro Times: What is it like suddenly n in ame erni eeme li e i elle a r lin i ere r a li le ile. a a i li e a ey r n a in ar n i a e i e in e ra i lay r Dana Foote: ell, songs don’t typically go to radio until they have a lot of momentum behind them, or unless you’re signed to a big label, and they’re trying to push a song from the get-go. It’s pretty hard to get a song on the radio, just randomly. So something organic, like TikTok, where the kids are excited about the song, and they want to listen to it and share it with each other, and explore di erent creative ways that they can visually express themselves with the song, was really great and really special. It was wonderful and really appreciated. a i li e a r a in e a e a er ein a ay r a ile e e an emi e’re definitely getting our sea legs. e played a lot at our college, and then we graduated, and shortly thereafter, the shutdown happened, and we didn’t really get to tour. So you know, it feels very fresh right now, for sure. ere in en e y ra i i nal Bal an l m i . i y ar li enin a ostly vocally, I found it because I was taking a class at my college. I can’t remember the title of the class, but the thesis of it was just exploring di erent vocal techni ues around the world, and one of the vocal styles that we studied was alkan folk music, which is very

broad, because it’s a large part of the world. It hits you in the chest as soon as you hear it. nd when it was a big class of people who were all singing together, we would try to learn the styles, we would bring people in who had either studied the vocal stop techni ues or were from the parts of the world where we were studying, and had grown up singing that way. nd when we were all singing the alkan songs, it was just very it’s like a lot of really close harmonies and you know, straight tone, a lot of like, singing that sounds like yelling. nd I just really love that. That music is really aggressive and intense, and especially, I love aggressive music sung by a feminine voice. a min ne e’re working on a new album. It’s mostly written, and we’re just starting to record, and we play with uite a few new songs in our set right now. So we’ve got a lot of the work, a good chunk of

the album that we’ve been playing live. a are y l in r ar m n e’ve been talking about maybe scheduling another headlining tour. eyond that, since live music has come back, I’ve been getting into a lot more of the music scene in ew ork, and a lot of the shows that go on in like the ast illage and rooklyn. There’s a really fabulous community of musicians here. It’s really fun. I’ve been playing just to keep things warm between tours and just because it’s fun. e’re playing shows with our friends, and we’ve got a show coming up next week, which is just like, my friend’s album release party, and we’re gonna open up for them.
