After-School Winter Classes: January 8 to April 6 Our exciting line-up of Winter After-School Classes begin on January 8. We have a wide range of old favorites coming back and new fresh classes such as Yoga+Mindfulness, Ukelele, Hip Hop dance class, a drawing and painting art class, tennis, and more. Winter classes go for ten weeks with Friday classes having nine. The French class goes through the Spring term with sixteen weeks. We invite you to go through this Guide listing all the classes by level with a brief description and a “Classes At A Glance” on the back cover for your convenience. Registration Policy Online (including payment) on a first come, first served basis via Eton School’s website. Opens Monday, December 11 at 7:00 a.m.. and closes when a class wait list is full or on January 12. Wait lists are created for all full classes in the order received and spots are filled in the order received. Upon completion of registration and payment, a confirmation email is sent to the person registering the student. If it does not arrive, please check junk mail/clutter folders. • If registering for an open spot from the wait list, the registration must be completed within the stated time frame or else the spot is offered to the next name on the wait list. • If an enrollment minimum is not met, a class may be canceled after the registration deadline and a refund is issued. All participants are informed of the class cancellation at the minimum of a week before the start of the class. No refunds are given for withdrawing from a class after January 12. • • • •

Each class studies movement and dance of cultures from around the world. Students develop flexibility and grow in their own artistic ability as they create dance. Ms. Alina Spektor enjoys encouraging dancers of all levels to reach their maximum potential and both boys and girls are welcome! At the end of each session, parents are invited to a mini-performance! This is the eighth year that Ms. Alina Spektor is offering the class at Eton School. Creative Dance, movement, music and performing have been her passion for sixteen years.
Yoga+Mindfulness: Class I

This fun and exciting yoga class offers an introduction to basic breathing, yoga postures, mindfulness techniques and relaxation to support the development of strength and flexibility. Students learn the value of movement and stillness by engaging in playful activities to promote self-awareness and improved social interactions with others.

Over the course of ten weeks, your young chef will have a chance to explore healthful foods and the kitchen in a fun, hands-on format. This cooking class is focused on exposing students to a variety of foods, valuable nutritional information, and basic cooking techniques in a fun way. We will cover everything from snacks, breakfast, lunch and dinner! Our class sizes are kept small so that chefs will have a rewarding and safe experience. All produce, meats and dairy are organic whenever possible. We commonly use wheat, dairy, and eggs in this class. Some substitutions can be made. We do not use peanuts or tree nuts. Join Karate-X this year for an awesome class that is disciplined, challenging and fun! Students learn and practice Karate skills with punching bags, breaking boards, blocking drills, kicking targets and more! For 17 years, Karate-X has been teaching in the Puget Sound area with a Martial Arts program specifically designed for preschool and elementary students. The professional instructor knows how to challenge and motivate students while building self-confidence and discipline. Belt rank testing is held at the end of each session, giving students goals to aim for and recognition of their accomplishments. For beginners who have never tried Karate, to athletes of any sport, Karate-X challenges and grows both bodies and minds!
Nature Storytelling

Through storytelling, music, movement, and science, students learn to connect with and understand Northwest plants and animals, which often live in our own backyards. Each class focuses on a different Northwest plant or animal and begins with a song followed by a spoken story, usually from a Native American nation. Books are read aloud with a short science lessons about the plant or animal being studied presented between stories. At the end of each class, students receive a fact sheet from the lesson to take home so that they can share what they have learned with their family.

Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as: Trains, Helicopters, Treehouses, and Beam Bridges. Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. There are no prerequisites for this course.

Students are introduced to new vocabulary with correct pronunciation through an approach that is communicative, which includes a simple question and answer in the theme of the week. Lessons are constructed around five elements for elementary students: total physical response activities, songs, games, crafts and culture. Groups are organized by language level and age for better interaction. Beginning and Intermediate French speakers are welcome!

In this class, students learn tactical chess ideas like pins, forks, and discoveries. Students work on puzzles learning how to checkmate the opponent in one or two moves and work on tactics. Students watch and learn from short master and grandmaster games. There is a lot of chess-playing time too.

Let’s build creative self-confidence that will last a lifetime! In this fun and welcoming class, students work with a variety of drawing and painting materials as they explore several fundamental processes and techniques in both disciplines. Through a series of step-by-step lessons, they’ll build an ability to more accurately draw and paint what they observe and also have an opportunity to illustrate concepts and ideas from their imaginations. Working with professional grade products, they will practice proper handling of the tools and materials as they learn about the elements of visual art through applied design principles.

Musicality, rhythm, and creative movement are key components of this fun, urban/street-style dance class that teaches boys and girls alike to step, stomp, and shake it out.

Create your favorite Minecraft objects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Whether you are new to Minecraft and LEGO® materials or a seasoned veteran, you’ll be hooked on the endless creative possibilities.

Soccer is great exercise and it is also a universally fun activity, which allows children to learn discipline and how to get along with others. Everyone enjoys the benefits of soccer and get into shape by increasing their cardiovascular capability as well as increase their muscular development and strength. Playing soccer is a way to make friends and being involved in a team sport promotes self-esteem. Each soccer class includes learning technical skills, improving physical conditions, learning to play as a team and becoming familiar with soccer rules/regulations. Students should dress in athletic clothes and running shoes as soccer cleats do not work well when it is rainy and class is in the undercover area. In addition, students should bring a light snack.

TGA Premier Youth Tennis brings tennis onto elementary and middle school campuses across America through enrichment programs that incorporate physical activity, character development and academic‑based lessons. All TGA programs serve as an extension of the classroom by incorporating the following components: Tennis instruction that is age-appropriate and effective; Character development lessons through our initiative “Play the fair way with TGA; Physical education and fitness; Rules and etiquette lessons; and Academic lessons in math, science, history and English.
Ukelele for Kids

The ukelele is an excellent instrument to learn how to play music. It’s relatively simple to learn, easy to tote around, inexpensive, super fun, and timelessly popular! In this ensemble, we will jump right into the fun stuff and learn how to play music on the ukulele. By the end of the course, students will know a few chord positions, will be able to play a couple of songs on the ukulele, and be able to sing along. Our instructors bring a classroom set of ukuleles with them to every class for the kids to use and we highly recommend that students also have a ukulele at home to practice.

Jump into the exciting world of sewing! In this class students use both their hands and handy machines to make oodles of fun projects that may include emojis, pajamas, aprons, messenger bags, zipper totes, infinity scarves, monsters and more. On the first day of class, the instructor surveys the young sewists to come up with projects that are both fun and challenging for their experience level and interest. No experience necessary and all supplies as well as fun are provided.
