Pre-elementary Clubhouse (childcare) provides several options for parents. Registration is limited to 60 students for June 19-23 then 20 students for all remaining weeks and is on a first come, first served basis. Pre-elementary students may register for a range of weeks (from one week to all six weeks). Lower Elementary students only have one week of class and if by June 1, less than five full day students are registered, the class will be canceled and tuition refunded. Morning Little Coders

June 19–23 Camps

The Little Coders camp is an opportunity for young students to develop their computational thinking skills, build their first programs, and have fun with new friends! The curriculum is designed specifically for early readers and takes into account cognitive abilities as well as attention span typical for students in Kindergarten through second grade. Students are introduced to basic coding concepts in a variety of ways, from playing coding board games like Robot Turtles to programming their first games or interactive stories. We use age appropriate online tools including code.org, Lightbot, Kodable, and/or Scratch.

Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 Morning Paint Away! Art Camp @ Eton School

Redmond Town Center’s very own Paint Away! is back at Eton School this summer. This camp is five fun-filled days of glass fusing, canvas painting, multiple crafts in different mediums, and of course, pottery painting!

Afternoon Pandemonium Players

Taught by Eton School’s very own Mary Springer, this class involves drama development through theatre games and process drama. Included in the session is work with musical numbers as well as fairy tales, poetry, and original material. The week culminates in a performance for family and friends on the last afternoon of class.

Our tech-savvy instructors introduce students to the core coding concepts at the heart of computer science. They guide small groups of campers in creating an interactive story and/or a game of their own using the block-based, online programming language Scratch. Children come to camp with a variety of backgrounds and beginner skill levels (from no experience to self-study of Scratch to some previous exposure to coding), so campers receive personalized instruction and progress at a pace that ensures they are appropriately challenged. Instructors serve as guides and coaches to small groups of campers as they build more complex games of their own. These games feature advanced concepts such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), game physics, or multi-player functionality. After the camp has ended, campers are able to share projects with family and friends and continue programming at home with their Coding with Kids Scratch account. *Students typically achieve this level of knowledge in one 8-week session of classes or one week of summer camps. Let your child dive into robotics, programming logic, and structural design with LEGO Education WeDo. Your child uses pulleys, levers, and sensors to construct snapping alligators and spinning robots, then program them with the WeDo visual drag-and-drop software. In addition, your child builds a strong foundation of coding and robotics skills for their tech future.

Does your child love Minecraft? Is your child ready to extend the game and build on this interest to learn coding? This camp is perfect! Students have access to their own Minecraft server where they customize the game with their own world maps and game features. They code mods to create new tools, items, environments, and non-playable characters, and then test out these features as they play the game. Students with previous experience create their own skin packs or even make multiplayer battle arenas. During this process, campers use their creativity and problem solving skills while learning programming and building mods.

Inspire the engineer in your child as he/she designs and builds awesome machines with the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 and software. Using visual drag-and-drop programming software, a range of sensors, and teamwork, your child can build anything from a drag racer to a guard robot that growls at nearby intruders. We get the creativity flowing right away in this hands-on, engaging course.

Full Day Felting

For this summer camp, we use felting needles and create a pillow with a fun felt design. Special felting needles are needles with very sharp barbed blades. Needle felting is a process that uses a barbed metal needle that is poked into a foam block that works to interlock fibers and form a design in countless ways. A felting kit is provided and the students will bring it home at the end of the week to continue their creative felting projects!

Prerequisites: Prior experience building programs (in Scratch or otherwise) and good understanding of basic coding concepts (variables, conditionals, debugging, etc). Basic typing skills needed. Is your emerging coder ready to learn a professional programming language? Python is a very versatile language that is widely used by software developers, as well as scientists or data analysts. Campers are introduced to Python, gain valuable experience with key concepts like data structures and algorithms, and build several projects. The projects may include terminal-based game, data analysis, or web scraping.

Destination Science: Journey into Space and Movie Making Fun

Build a Mars Rover and be a Star director! Attention all Astronauts! This is mission control. Your objective: build your own motorized Mars Rover, use solar power to collect Martian samples, and join the Mars rover race. Explore the moon telescopically, golf to our inner and outer planets, and dig into earth science. Use Mars facts and your imagination as you produce your own “Out of this World” stop motion movie and take home your own movie set to continue the fun. Coming this summer: a solar eclipse, be ready with Destination Science eclipse shades!
