English and Maths
These are skills that we take for granted, but we all use English and maths every day, often without thinking about it. That is why we believe it is important all of our students have a good grasp of the basics. We offer a range of part-time GCSE English, maths and functional skills courses to help you build these essential skills that all employers are looking for. We can help you make the grade!
How We’ll Support You
We want all of our students to enjoy their time with us, so we offer a range of services to make sure you’ll always feel comfortable and supported. If you need help in or out of the classroom, just ask.
Safeguarding and Welfare
We prioritise your safety at all times. We have a Safeguarding and Welfare Team with dedicated safeguarding roles at all of our college sites. We can offer advice and support to ensure that help can be sought from external agencies to enable the best outcomes for our students’ safety and overall wellbeing. If you should feel unsafe or feel you would benefit from support, we are here to make sure you are heard and safe at all times. Please speak to your tutor about any worries in the first instance. Alternatively, you can email: safe@the-etc.ac.uk
Equality and Diversity
We value the diversity of our college community and promote inclusion for all. We take steps to ensure that all of our students have equal access to our services. We encourage a culture of respect and commit to tackling prejudice at all levels. By encouraging students and staff to share their own experiences, we aim to promote mutual understanding.
SEND/EHCP
We are committed to supporting you to meet your individual goals and aspirations. We welcome applications from students with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). We will work with you to provide the right resources, support and services to meet your needs. To ensure we can provide the appropriate support, we will ask to see a copy of your Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or SEN Support Plan. This allows us to understand and determine how best to meet your support needs. We work closely with the local authorities and ensure we adhere to the special education needs code of practice.
Learning Support
Our Learning Support Team is dedicated to making sure our learners receive a support interview and make sure the appropriate support is put in place. Our aim is to make sure our learners are respected and cared for as individuals and are encouraged and supported to reach their potential at all times. Learning support services include support for students that are visually impaired, have a hearing impairment, those with mobility issues, dyslexia or any learning or physical difficulty and/or disability.

If eligible, you can apply for a loan to meet the upfront costs of your qualification, which will be paid directly to the college on your behalf. This is a great way to access courses, which previously may have been out of reach for financial reasons. Things you need to know:
• You need to be a UK resident and aged over 19
• Advanced Learner Loans are not means tested or credit checked
• Funds are paid directly to the learning provider
• Minimum amount of £300 (maximum depends upon the course chosen)

• Bursaries may be available for extra support for childcare, learning support and course related costs
• Applications for courses starting in September can be made online with the Student Loans Company once you receive your Learning and Funding Information letter from the college
• This loan application is a credit agreement between you and the Student Loans Company
If the loan is for an Access to Higher Education course and if you subsequently go on to successfully complete a higher education course, you won’t have to pay back your Advanced Learner Loan.
