PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D.

Friends, On a beautiful spring day in May 2017, I couldn’t have been more proud than to stand alongside members of the community, state legislators, our baseball and softball coaches, and leadership of the East Stroudsburg University Foundation, to break ground for new baseball and softball fields at the ESSA & Hughes Field Complex at Creekview Park in Stroudsburg. The new fields are the result of a $1.8 million fundraising campaign by the ESU Foundation, the department of athletics, and a grant from the Local Shareholders Account. What a tremendous illustration of teamwork displayed that afternoon, proving that working toward a mutual goal can lead to success. Breaking Ground – not only on the state-of-the-art fields that athletes of all ages will soon play upon – but also the dynamic way ESU, the community, our state government and the Foundation worked together to make it happen. The ESU Foundation’s 2017-2018 Annual Report and Honor Roll of Donors illustrates how we all collectively strive to break ground in all we do to ensure our students have the best we can offer in higher education while maintaining a reasonable cost. Every day at ESU, we put our students first and thanks to your support, we continue to place our focus on student success. Your generosity enabled the Foundation to raise $2,868,358 in support of ESU and its students. Those contributions are seen in the hundreds of scholarships provided to students to attend ESU in the academic programs and innovative technology from which they learn, and the first-class fields and courts on which they play. We want you to know your contribution – no matter the amount – makes an impact. Within these pages you will find the story of Jakwan Jones that takes you to the moment a talented athlete learns he can return to ESU thanks to available scholarship funds. You will see how your support gives students the opportunity to learn in the most sophisticated 3D or additive Manufacturing Lab in the Commonwealth with the addition of a desktop metal 3D printer. And those with a passion for entrepreneurship learn about the peaks and pitfalls from entrepreneurs as part of the President’s Distinguished Entrepreneur Speaker Series. We are also proud to say that, thanks to your support, we will rename the Northeast Wildlife DNA Laboratory after the professor who created it, Jane Huffman, Ph.D., M’07. In addition, the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Retired Faculties is well on its way to creating an endowed scholarship as a companion to its existing annual scholarship. We are grateful for all you have done, and ask you to stand ready to lend your support in 2018-2019. We are far from filling the needs of every student, every program, and every athlete. We will continue to push forward in our fundraising strategies and look to you to help spread our good news so that others will join in the cause. Only when we work together can we continue to break ground.

Dear Friends, Thank you for making 2017-2018 such an incredible success. In my four years of service on the Board of Directors for the East Stroudsburg University Foundation, it has been a pleasure to see the continual increase in support of all our programs. From the Warrior Fund, to scholarships, to ESU’s academic and athletic programs, every dollar you donate provides a direct impact on ESU and its students. I am pleased to report that in 2017-2018, the Foundation received a clean audit from its independent accounting firm, reassuring you – as our valued donor – that we strive for accuracy and transparency in all we do. Thanks to you, and the hard work of my fellow board members and the Foundation staff, we continue to provide much needed support to the university. This Annual Report and Honor Roll of Donors recognizes you and the many alumni, parents, businesses, organizations and friends who together made gifts of $2,868,358 between July 1, 2017, and June 30, 2018. I am particularly proud of the steady growth we have seen over the past seven years in our scholarship program. As you will read on page 30 of this report, the Foundation has jumped a whopping 105 percent in scholarship funds awarded since fiscal year 2010-2011. What an incredible testament of our mission to provide philanthropic support to ESU’s students through the gift of scholarship. As diligent stewards of your gifts, it’s our job to ensure we maximize investments for long-term growth and stability. Thanks to our Investment Committee, as of June 30, 2018, the Foundation’s endowed funds neared $18 million. The year also included the culmination of several special campaigns for which we are grateful for your support, including the baseball-softball field enhancement project at Creekview Park, the DNA Lab renaming, and the Track and Field scholarship campaign, just to name a few. So where do we go from here? It’s wonderful to bask in our successes, but we must stay focused and plan for the future. In 2018-2019, we look to continue positive investment strategies that increase our endowed funds. We continue to steward your gifts so your investment in ESU and its students goes as far as possible. We seek to engage more alumni across the globe and discover new friends, businesses and organizations who desire a partnership that meets the needs of all. We grow our number of annual and endowed scholarships created and dollars awarded, and we assure the university we can fill in their most pressing need through solid growth of the Warrior Fund. We can do all this, and more, but only with your continued support and your philanthropic commitment to the ESU Foundation. Working together, we will continue to provide for the education and well-being of all Warriors.

Dear Friends, Every spring, we enjoy one of the highlights of the East Stroudsburg University Foundation’s year – the annual Scholarship Dinner. It’s a celebration of giving and receiving, when donors and student scholarship recipients meet and get to know one another. Donors share about their lives and reasons for giving, and students impart their dreams and academic aspirations. That evening gives me pause to consider the very important work we do at the ESU Foundation, and why it’s crucial to thank our donors for the impact they make in the lives of others. Our scholarship program is always a source of pride for the Foundation. I’m thrilled to share that in fiscal year 2017-2018, we continued to see strong growth, establishing 28 new annual and seven new endowed scholarship funds. In total, the Foundation awarded 574 scholarships totaling more than $781,000, a five percent increase from the previous year. We couldn’t make strides in our scholarship program and the many other projects and initiatives we undertake without the generosity of donors. You are part of a community that cares and for that we thank you! All gifts, regardless of size, are significant and we are deeply grateful for your ongoing support of the academic success of all ESU students. I am excited to share the 2017-2018 ESU Foundation Annual Report and Honor Roll of Donors. It gives you a glimpse into yet another successful year at the Foundation as we continue to build upon our commitment to provide the best educational experience to our students at a reasonable cost. Specifically, thanks to you, some of our accomplishments in 2017-2018: • 2,927 supporters helped raise $2,868,358 in support of East Stroudsburg University. • $1.8 million fundraising campaign to build new baseball and softball fields at Creekview Park was completed. • Funding was secured so ESU’s Art + Design Department could add a 3D metal printer to its G3D Super Lab. • Alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends came together to show their support for the university on Giving Tuesday 2017, closing out the day with $81,510 in gifts. As you read through this report, you will learn how your gifts have opened doors to a new world, created stepping stones to a new future, and nurtured dreams for a better tomorrow. As stewards of your gift, we are called upon to share the new initiatives, projects, and programs made possible by your thoughtful generosity. I’d like to also thank the ESU Foundation Board of Directors and ESU President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., for their support in 2017-2018 and as we strategize our fundraising initiatives for the coming years. Scholarships enable Warrior athlete to play, help take the team all For all of his life, Jakwan Jones spent most of his time in two places, at home and on the basketball court. Then, five years ago, East Stroudsburg University knocked on his door. “Basketball is the only thing I’ve ever known. ESU is the only place that actually offered me a scholarship,” Jones said. “That showed how much they wanted me.” Now a fifth-year senior with a double major in sport management and business management, Jones was faced with rising tuition and ineligibility for a state grant before the 2018-2019 academic year began.

“I was scared for a while,” he said. “It was really stressful up until the first week of school.”

“My mother and my sister would do anything to help me. My sister just had a baby, but she was willing to put everything on hold for me. "They are always there for me, and that's why I love them," Jones said. Eventually, scholarship awards began showing up on Jones’ ESU student account.

Jones thought about trying to get a job to pay for his ESU meal plan. Jones’s mother Jennifer and his sister Taya called relatives to ask if they could help pay for books. Money was so tight at home, Jones would even try not to eat too much.

“I remember Coach Wilson calling me into the office to give me the news. I was speechless at first and frozen in the moment. I’m not quite sure how, but knowing what a great guy Coach is and how much he cares for his family, helped to get more donors on board,” said Jones.

Jones’s scholarship awards included the Athletic Hall of Fame Annual Scholarship, Eric Bryan ’14 Memorial Annual Scholarship, Dr. Patricia Graham Men’s Basketball Annual Scholarship, Andy Lee/Braveheart Pub Annual Scholarship, and Stem Family Men’s Basketball Annual Scholarship. “A lot of the donors are alumni who have a close relationship with the school and program, and the ones I don’t know mean a lot,” Jones said. Over the years, Jones has had the opportunity to build a mutually admirable relationship with one of his donors, retired ESU faculty member Dr. Patricia Graham. “I met Patricia Graham,” said Jones. “She knows people from back home in Philadelphia. She’s very caring. We share stories and experiences. She has an overall passion toward basketball and me, and she likes me as a person and a young man. She wants to see me do well.” Jones and Graham spent time together this past August 10 during the Jeff Dailey Memorial Golf Tournament, which supports the men's basketball program. “Every time we see each other, we get big smiles on our faces,” Jones said. Also, on that day, ESU men's basketball head coach Jeff Wilson asked Jones to speak to the tournament golfers about the impact scholarships have had on him. "Being honest, opening up to everybody, helping my story branch out to other studentathletes, and having them understand how important their donations are, I think the donors who didn’t know me were even more eager to give their support,” said Jones. “Hopefully, I’ll be in a position to provide scholarships for the next generation.” This year, Jones hopes to once again make the Dean's List, which he made his sophomore year, and resume his role as team captain. “Sophomore year, I had to sit out because of injury, which frustrated me. Once I came to grips that there was no shot of me stepping back on the court that year, I focused my energy and competitiveness into the classroom. I was determined to get on course, and I was in the library every day,” Jones said.

“It was an overwhelming feeling, being able to call my mom and let her know I was able to compete my last year. I had the opportunity to get a meal plan, I wouldn’t have to worry about finding a job, and I would be able to take the bill for books off my family. I felt a lot of pressure released.”

His drive carried over into the next year academically, but not athletically, which was disappointing to Jones. “I remember having a motivating conversation with Coach Wilson, and he finished with, ‘Get it done.’ From then on, I had a chip on my shoulder, and I was determined to prove myself right, meaning I knew what I was capable of, and I was going to show everyone else exactly what that was,” Jones said. Jones helped the Warriors to an Elite 8 appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament this past March. They also won their third PSAC championship in the last seven years, and Jones was named All-PSAC East and was selected to the Atlantic Regional AllTournament team. “Coach Wilson saw something different in me that he knew could be brought out, and for that, I thank him,” Jones said. “Making school history in basketball, the camaraderie skyrocketed on and off the court, and the group is still really strong.” Jones also hopes to continue to build his social skills this year. “ESU made me a more outgoing person. Overall, my social skills weren’t that good. I feel I present better in classes. It’s allowed me to carry conversations. I don’t want to leave anything on the table with my college experiences,” he said.

BREAKING GROUND $1.8 million raised, construction begins at Creekview Park

East Stroudsburg University, Stroud Township Board of Supervisors, Stroudsburg Little League and the ESU Foundation broke ground for new baseball and softball fields at the ESSA & Hughes Field Complex at Creekview Park on May 3, 2018. The new, state-of-the-art fields are expected to be ready in spring 2019 with the help of a $1.8 million fundraising campaign by the ESU Foundation, the department of athletics and a grant from the Local Shareholders Account. The enhancements to the baseball and softball fields will accommodate the ESU Warriors baseball and softball teams and Stroudsburg Little League. It will include the installation of artificial turf, two sets of bullpen mounds for each field, construction of home and away dugouts at both fields, permanent and accessible bleacher seating for fans, designated hitting cages for each field, and overhead netting to protect fans from foul balls. Troiani-Sweeney lecture focuses on concussion care

President’s Distinguished Entrepreneur Speaker Series

The Troiani-Sweeney Endowed Fund Lecture Series on March 22, 2018, featured Jane McDevitt ’01, Ph.D. titled “The Evidence Based Approach to Concussion Care.” The lecture also included a demonstration of the new Riddell InSite football helmets worn by the ESU Warriors.

The President’s Distinguished Entrepreneur Speaker Series brings entrepreneurs to ESU’s campus to talk about the various challenges they’ve faced in their careers as well as life experiences and educational opportunities that have guided them on their journey.

Now in its fourth year, the Troiani-Sweeney Endowed Fund Lecture Series at ESU was established by graduates Linda (Troiani) ’83 and Sam Niedbala ’82 to honor Linda’s sister, Yvonne Troiani Sweeney ’78. Yvonne dedicated her life to her nursing career that spanned 30 years until she was diagnosed with a form of early onset dementia called posterior cortical atrophy. Jane McDevitt ’01, Ph.D.

Sam Niedbala ’82 Dr. Sam Niedbala ’82, CEO of CryoConcepts, LP, was the featured speaker on October 24, 2017. Based in Bethlehem, Pa., CryoConcepts is one of the fastest growing technology companies in the field of cryo-based products for esthetics and medical use.

A graduate of ESU’s chemistry program, Dr. Niedbala began his entrepreneurial endeavors in 1979 by launching his former company, OraSure Technologies, Inc., which developed the first rapid HIV test in the United States that was approved for use with blood and saliva, as well as OraQuick, an over-the-counter version of the same test. He was responsible for development of new products and technologies as well as over 70 approvals of new medical devices by the FDA.

Located in East Stroudsburg, Vigon emerged as one of the flavor and fragrance industry’s fastest growing companies – expanding from a nine-person, $5-million company in 1998, to the 87-person, $100-million entity that it is today. The company has repeatedly been named One of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania and has been named one of the Nation’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For by the National Association for Business Resources. In 2016, Somers was selected as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Greater Philadelphia area.

Murphy lecture series features distinguished alumnus

President’s Tent/Box brings donors, friends to the field

The Murphy Alumni Science Lecture at East Stroudsburg University held on Nov. 9, 2017, featured Keynote Speaker Robert Flowers, Ph.D. ’86, Danser distinguished faculty chair in chemistry and deputy provost for faculty affairs at Lehigh University. Flowers spoke to students and faculty on Rare Earth Metals: Societal Importance and Applications in the Synthesis of Biologically Important Molecules.

The fall 2017 Warriors football season gave East Stroudsburg University President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., and the ESU Foundation the opportunity to meet and steward donors at the President’s Tent and the Dr. Jake Piatt ’61 President’s Box at Gregory-Douds Field at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The reception tent was an added feature in 2017, giving guests the opportunity to be field level prior to the game.

The event, hosted by the ESU chemistry department, was made possible through a gift to the ESU Foundation by Dr. Clarence J. Murphy.

Foundation grant enables ESU to purchase metal 3D printer

Warrior football scholarship recipients connect with donors

Through the generosity of the R. Dale and Frances M. Hughes Foundation, a $215,110 grant was awarded for the purchase of a Desktop Metal 3D printer and supplies to support the continuing success of East Stroudsburg University’s G3D Super Lab in the Art + Design Department.

Following the Nov. 11, 2017, home game, Warrior football scholarship recipients had the opportunity to meet their donors at Zimbar-Liljenstein Hall. Sponsored by the ESU Foundation, the Football Scholarship Reception allowed donors, student scholarship recipients and parents the chance to connect in an informal setting and share what it means to give and receive a scholarship.

The Desktop Metal 3D printer is the first safe, high-speed, and cost-effective 3D printer in the world that produces 3D prints in stainless steel, copper, iron, bronze, titanium, and other metals. This printer uses the same metal injection molding materials of high-end alloys and is not only capable of creating detailed and complex prints, but can do so in mass quantity with no loss of precision. This will accompany ESU’s Arts + Design Department’s Stratasys 3D printer, which was also purchased with a grant from the Hughes Foundation. Over the past four years, ESU’s continued acquisition of cutting edge 3D printers has enabled the university to add a product design concentration to the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Integrated Art and Design program.

Forty-four football scholarships were awarded and four new scholarships were established during the 2017–2018 academic year through the ESU Foundation – $71,570 was made available to student-athletes in football scholarships, an 11.5 percent increase over the previous year.

Celebrating a season of success: Donors connect with men’s basketball staff Donors congratulated the coaching staff of the Warriors men’s basketball team at a reception held at the president’s home at One College Circle on June 8, 2018. Hosted by ESU President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., Gary Gray, Ed.D., director of athletics, and the ESU Foundation, the reception gave supporters of the program the opportunity to connect with the coaching staff and celebrate the accomplishments of the 2017-2018 men’s basketball season. Under 16th-year head coach Jeff Wilson '86 M'92, the Warriors won their third PSAC championship in seven years and their firstever NCAA Division II Atlantic Region championship. The team then appeared in its first-ever NCAA Division II Elite 8 competition, playing Northern State at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. in the national quarterfinals.

In fiscal year 2017-2018, 28 awards totaling $33,370 were awarded to men’s basketball athletes. Three new scholarships were established: the Sandra K. Hogue ‘82 Men’s Basketball Annual Scholarship, the Potts Family Men’s Basketball Annual Scholarship, and the Josh ‘08 and Jullianna Wentz Men’s Basketball Annual Scholarship.

27th annual golf classic benefits Prince Hall Scholarship Fund The Educational Scholarship Golf Classic to benefit the Prince Hall Endowed Scholarship celebrated its 27th anniversary on August 28, 2017, welcoming nearly 70 golfers to Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort in Shawnee On Delaware, Pa. The golf outing benefits the Prince Hall Endowed Scholarship which enables students who attend the Prince Hall School in Philadelphia, Pa., the opportunity to further their education at ESU. Since the partnership with the Prince Hall School and ESU began in 1988, 17 Prince Hall scholars have graduated from ESU because of this scholarship. Honorary chair of the 2017 classic was Dr. Elzar Camper, Jr., distinguished professor emeritus and a founding member of the Prince Hall Scholar Program at ESU.

Adopt-A-Warrior provides support to football program Launched in April 2018, Adopt-A-Warrior is an initiative designed to provide essential support to the ESU Warrior football program and its student-athletes. Through a giving campaign administered by the East Stroudsburg University Foundation, donor contributions help assure an enduring legacy for Warrior football players. The program helps provide a vital link for ESU’s football coaches and players to connect with our past players, alumni and community of supporters. Gifts of support start at $250, providing student-athletes with access to high-performance training resources, apparel and equipment, competitions, travel and meals and academic support. Participants in the program receive personalized correspondence from a student-athlete, Warrior Football email updates, and recognition in the athletics annual report.

Track and Field Campaign crosses $60K mark with plans to continue the push A committee of 18 dedicated alumni and friends of East Stroudsburg University’s Track and Field program, led by Kurt Zwikl ’72 and Karen Gaita ’91, began a fundraising campaign in January 2018 with a goal of raising $100,000 to benefit athletic scholarships, operating expenses, and team travel. By the end of summer, the campaign had raised $60,991 and will continue in fiscal year 2018-2019 with the objective of reaching the original goal. ESU has a rich and respected intercollegiate track and field tradition. The men’s team, coached by Joe Koch M’88, and the women’s team, coached by Quanette Ford '01, placed nine student-athletes on the USTFCCCA All-Region team in spring 2018. In addition, the Warrior men claimed four PSAC titles in 2017-2018 while placing third in the team standings at the conference’s indoor and outdoor championships, and the Warrior women finished third out of 16 schools at the PSAC Indoor Championships, their highest finish since 2014. APSCURF takes strides in endowed scholarship campaign The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Retired Faculties (APSCURF) began a fundraising campaign in December 2017 to create an endowed scholarship to accompany their annual scholarship. Faith Waters, Quentin Currie, Suzanne Mueller MacIntyre, and Linda Rogers spearheaded the campaign in coordination with the ESU Foundation. The campaign has raised approximately $19,000 through face-to-face solicitation, newsletters, and an appeal. Plans for a phonathon are under way to help the organization reach its goal of $25,000 in the next fiscal year.

Giving Tuesday 2017 raises more than $81K for scholarship, Warrior Fund East Stroudsburg University alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends came together to show their support for the university on Giving Tuesday 2017. The ESU Foundation closed out Tuesday, November 28, 2017, with $81,510 in gifts. These gifts supported a combination of named scholarships and the Warrior Fund, as well as specific program and department funds. “Our Phonathon callers were excited to participate in the 2017 Giving Tuesday campaign. It gives them the opportunity to see the impact that can be made when people work together,” said Nancy Boyer, director of Annual Giving and Special Campaigns. It was this combined effort that helped make Giving Tuesday 2017 a success, with at least 17 members of the ESU Alumni Board helping to push information out over social media and 12 Phonathon callers reaching out to our alumni. According to the Giving Tuesday founding organization, 92Y − a cultural center in New York City, the purpose of Giving Tuesday is to “harness the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.” “It is important that we continue to show our donors the impact their participation, at any level, can have on our students,” said ESU Foundation Executive Director Rich Santoro. Generous members of the ESU Foundation Board helped incentivize donors to give by doubling the first $5,000 in gifts made to the Warrior Fund. “We are very fortunate to have so much support for this campaign from our Foundation Board,” said Santoro. “It is inspiring to see so many members of our community come together on this one day for our students.”

DNA Lab renaming campaign tops $134K A campaign to rename the Northeast Wildlife DNA Laboratory after the East Stroudsburg University biology professor who created it has reached $134,710. ESU will rename the lab in honor of Jane Huffman, Ph.D., M’07. Dr Huffman, who passed away in 2017, was a member of the ESU family for 29 years. She began her career at ESU in 1986 and established the Northeast Wildlife DNA Lab at ESU in 2005, which resulted in the development of the CutterTM Lyme Disease Tick Test, the first nationally-recognized brand-name product developed at ESU. Dr. Huffman was passionate about providing students with research opportunities and a hands-on learning experience. Located in the Innovation Center, the Northeast Wildlife DNA Laboratory is an extension of the Biological Sciences Department, providing training for undergraduate and graduate students. In the lab, students learn the application of technologies, methodologies and practices related to infectious disease diagnostics and wildlife population genetic studies. The lab has served the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for forensic analysis in state wildlife crimes and provided educational materials for Monroe County residents and surrounding counties.

President’s Gala 2017 Celebrating our President’s Circle donors and the 1893 Society East Stroudsburg University’s most generous donors and members of the 1893 Society were the guests of honor at the Annual President’s Gala held October 6, 2017, at Kemp Library. More than 100 guests attended and were thanked for their generous contributions in 2016-2017. Hosted by ESU President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., and the ESU Foundation, the gala celebrates individuals, businesses and organizations who have given at the President’s Circle level of $1,500 or more over the last fiscal year. Members of the 1893 Society - those who include the ESU Foundation in their estate plans - also attended. Financial support to annual and endowed scholarships, academic and athletic programs, and the Warrior Fund culminated in the third-highest fundraising total in the ESU Foundation’s 31-year history, said Executive Director Rich Santoro, raising nearly $3.2 million in support of ESU and its students in 2016-2017.

President Welsh provided updates on campus happenings to guests and expressed her pride in the philanthropic strides ESU and the Foundation have taken in the past several years. “We’re proud to know the philanthropic work done over the past year continues to grow the ESU Foundation Warrior Fund, that hundreds of student scholarship recipients are getting the resources they need to reach their academic goals, and that we have created partners on campus, and within the community, who value and support our mission,” said Welsh.

Tremendous growth was also seen in the ESU Foundation’s scholarship program, resulting in the creation of 27 new annual and seven endowed scholarships. In total, $1.4 million was received in scholarship support in 2016-2017.

Scholarship Report Scholarship donors were inspired to hear how student recipients would make their mark on the world during the 10th Annual Scholarship Dinner. Held April 19, 2018, at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, Pa., the East Stroudsburg University Foundation’s signature event drew more than 300 guests and gave students the opportunity to thank their donors in person.

Themed Through You, I Will, the celebration also gave students a chance to share their career dreams attainable through the gift of scholarship. Keynote speakers for the dinner were Misozi Houston and Vincent Gervasi, both of the Class of 2019, and Daniela Arango Zapata, Class of 2018. The master of ceremonies for the evening was Destinee Ward, Class of 2019. Event sponsors for the dinner were PSECU and The Haverford Trust Company.

Office of Alumni Engagement

Legacy pins given out to Legacy Family alumni during the Legacy Family Lunch and Pinning Ceremony held during Family Weekend 2017.

The ESU Office of Alumni Engagement serves more than 45,000 Warrior alumni, engaging and connecting them through collaborative efforts with other university departments, events, affinity and class reunions, regional chapters and networking opportunities. The office is also responsible for print and electronic communication to the alumni base. The Office of Alumni Engagement provided support to the ESU Alumni Association Board of Directors at its quarterly meetings. In 2017-2018, the alumni board obtained 100 percent participation from members toward their annual scholarship, raising $2,080. The board established a pilot program named Warrior Alumni Mentoring (WAM) in conjunction with the Office of Career Development, encouraging alumni and students to network with each other. The group also led the effort in the development of two new chapters in Bucks/Montgomery County and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, bringing the number of active alumni chapters to 10.

The Annual All-Alumni Tailgate during Homecoming Weekend 2017 brought Warriors of all generations together to celebrate.

Homecoming Hollywood Homecoming 2017, held October 18-22, was a week to remember as class and affinity reunions, campus tours, athletic events, tailgates and more filled the schedule that attracted more than 1,300 alumni back to campus. Other highlights during Homecoming Weekend included the launching of a $25,000 fundraising campaign for the Class of 1967 Endowed Scholarship. To date, $11,000 has been raised. The classmates enjoyed their 50th Class Reunion while the Class of 1957 celebrated their 60th anniversary.

Office of Alumni Engagement

Alumni and friends of ESU who have reached excellence in their field or have gone above and beyond in their support of the university were honored by the ESU Alumni Association Board of Directors on October 20, 2017, at the Annual Alumni Awards and All-Alumni Reunion Banquet held at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort at Shawnee On Delaware, Pa.

The Office of Alumni Engagement planned and executed off-campus events in Philadelphia, Valley Forge, Hoboken, Lehigh Valley, the east and west coasts of Florida, New York City, Washington, D.C., and in New England. Athletic and academic affinity groups, chapter events and volunteer opportunities drew 1,092 attendees throughout 2017-2018.

Men’s basketball alumni reconnect during a joint men’s and women’s basketball reception held in January 2018 in Koehler Fieldhouse.

Social Media/Communications Keeping alumni engaged, staff utilized various platforms to connect with Warriors across the globe. Social media outreach on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram saw a 10 percent increase in followers in 2017-2018. Outreach campaigns on social media were held on Valentine’s Day and Giving Tuesday, and alumni were invited to participate in feature events, including ‘share your graduation picture’ and ‘show your Warrior spirit.’ Digital media outreach included targeted emails based on geographic location and affinities, seeing an open rate on average of 13 percent, while the team also began early planning for navigation and site content for the upcoming relaunch of the alumni website, www.esualumni.edu. The Alumni Herald, the official magazine of ESU, increased its print run, with hard copies being sent to more than 31,000 alumni across the country. The magazine is published two times a year.
