Spotted: a serene black bear enjoying the quiet green of the Big Thompson Canyon. Black bears have an excellent sense of smell—seven times stronger than a bloodhound’s—which helps them locate ripe fruits and edible plants with astonishing precision. This one may be sitting, but its nose is always working.
