With a low camper to instructor ratio, learn basic techniques and water safety while progressing through skill levels under the guidance and supervision of our Red Cross-certified instructors and lifeguards. Campers receive weekly progress reports and are recognized with awards.

Sports Practice sportsmanship and teamwork while learning the fundamentals of soccer, basketball, baseball, track & field, street hockey, flag football, teeball, whiffle ball and Gaga. With fun weekly tournaments and recreational games.

Put on your apron, roll up your sleeves, and follow us into the kitchen for a week of mouthwatering fun. Guided by an executive chef, create and enjoy palate-pleasing dishes from various regions of Italy. Learn about food preparation and kitchen safety, explore helpful hints for measuring, chopping, mixing, and garnishing, and much more. The final course is “An Italian Food Festival,” including your delectable creations, Italian music, and, of course, a Bocce Tournament! Mangia Italiano!

Musical Theater (Peter Pan)

Learn everything from the fine art of stage performance to the behind-the-scenes basics of theater production for the big premiere performance of this Broadway hit for family and friends on the last day.

A unique, week-long overnight experience where ESF campers from PA, NJ, CT, NY & MD come together for fun, friendship, and leadership-based adventure programming. Highlights include: fishing, canoeing, hiking, biking, sports, art, swimming, high and low ropes course challenges, teambuilding initiatives, an introduction to outdoor living skills, special events and more. A challenging experience in a supportive and nurturing environment to develop the leader within. Overnight camp is held in Lawrenceville, NJ. Transportation to and from the overnight camp will be provided.

Teen Travel Camp (Age 10+ only)

Pack a lunch and let’s hit the road. Travel to a different destination each day for lots of new experiences, adventure, and fun including hiking, canoeing, biking and more.

Awaken creativity and imagination. Explore a variety of art techniques, including painting, sculpture, illustration, and more. Work as a team to conceive and create an installation project on campus. All masterpieces, large and small, will be displayed at the Major Camp Art Expo for family and friends.

Fashion Design

2 weeks

Create your own fashion line. Explore color theory, drawing and illustration, pattern and print creation, textile design, and forecasting and inspiration techniques. Form teams, build your own brand, design a logo, and create a marketing strategy and business plan for the grand reveal of your collection at the Major Camp Fashion Show for family and friends. Includes an on-site photo-shoot, portfolio development, garment and accessory construction, recycling, up-cycling and more.

Invention by Design

Learn about famous inventors, lifechanging inventions, Rube Goldberg devices and more. Experience the design process, collaborate with your team and transform your ideas into real inventions that improve the world we live in. Apply your ingenuity and innovative thinking to design, engineer, and refine prototypes of the world’s next great invention which will be featured the Major Camp Invention Convention for family and friends.

Learn how to communicate a product or message to the world. Discover the psychology behind commercials, the secrets of selling, and the power of words and images. Study some of the most popular advertising campaigns of all time and what made them successful. Create a sales pitch and multimedia advertising campaign including print, TV, radio, social media, and the internet and present it to family and friends on the last day.

Learn the skills to be a sports broadcaster and side line reporter. Anchor with a teleprompter in a mock-sports broadcast on unique field trips to Temple University’s School of Media and Communication. Announce the play-by-play at a camp sporting event; host a press conference; hone your interviewing techniques; and practice script-reading and writing. Highlights include a field trip to Citizens Bank Park (Philadelphia Phillies), to meet the front office staff and get exclusive behind-thescenes tours, as well as a Broadcast Expo for family and friends on the last day.

PERFORMING ARTS CAMPS

Music Studio (Rock Band) 1 week

Rock out and jam with fellow campers and professional musicians as part of a musical ensemble. Share your talents as a member of a rock band while also writing and performing original vocal tracks with the accompaniment of instruments that campers bring from home. Collaborate with a band of campers to blend all of your soundtracks into cohesive and unique songs to be performed at the Major Camp Rock Concert for family and friends. All camper instruments of choice are welcome.

Theater & Performing Arts

Open auditions start day one at the ESF Casting Call. Whether singer, dancer, or actor, showcase your unique talents and be cast in the role of your dreams. Discover the many facets of being on a theatrical team while exploring all aspects of dramatic and musical theater in preparation of the Major Camp Theatrical Production for family and friends on the last day.

SCIENCE CAMPS

Animal Advocacy: Big Cats

2 weeks

Take action for tigers and think critically about real-world issues that impact wildlife across the globe. Taught by experienced educators from The Philadelphia Zoo, with live animals in the classroom for up-close and personal wildlife encounters. Help safeguard tigers and reduce deforestation by forming advocacy teams and developing community action plans. Learn from expert CSI investigators about fingerprinting, forensic photography, casting, spatter analysis, ballistics and more. Unravel clues at an ESF Mock Crime Scene, through collection and preservation of physical evidence, crime scene reconstruction, surveillance, detailed reports, and witness interviews. Includes a field trip to the Philadelphia Forensic Science Building to meet forensic scientists and crime scene investigators. Family and friends are invited to a Mock Trial and simulated Crime lab on the last day.

Space & Rocketry:

1 week

Learn about US space history, famous astronauts, important missions and more. Explore the laws of motion and the physics of rocket flight including propulsion, lift, drag, velocity and aerodynamics. Construct your very own solidfuel propelled rocket and countdown to lift-off at the Great Major Camp Rocket Launch among friends on the last day. An out of this world experience for future astronauts or rocket scientists.

Super Cool Science:

1 week

Experience unique, hands-on science experiments that are as fun as they are educational. Discover answers to tantalizing questions by exploring the wonders of physical, life and earth sciences. From chemical reactions, potions, polymers and slime to solar powered devices, circuits and electronics, dissections and more. Family and friends are invited to the Super Science Expo on the last day.

TECHNOLOGY CAMPS

3D Design & Printing:

1 week

Dream it. Create it. Prototype it. Discover cutting edge technology and learn how to navigate 3D design software. Work with a team of innovators to engineer cool three-dimensional objects. Accelerate your design process as you print professional-quality prototypes of your creations right at your work station with a 3D printer. Amaze your family and friends with a display of your industrial designs and prototypes on the last day. No prior experience necessary.

Digital Animation: 1 week

Put your creativity into motion as you master fundamental animation principles while learning vector art design, digital animation techniques and how to animate your own creations. Provides an introduction to animation and the use of Adobe Flash. Celebrate your creative genius at the Animator’s Festival for family and friends on the last day. No prior experience with Adobe Flash necessary and all skill levels welcome.

Digital Photography & Graphic Design: 1 week

Learn to take photos like a pro. Explore photography and digital camera functionality as you capture photographs and digitally enhance them using Adobe Photoshop. Learn graphic design skills and create brochures, magazines, and more. Mount and display your collection at the Major Camp Gallery Exhibition for family and friends to view on the last day. No prior experience with Adobe Photoshop necessary and all skill levels welcome.

Digital Video Production: 1 week

Experience acting, directing, screenwriting, producing, and camera work. Collaborate with your production team to create a short film production — a movie trailer, a sitcom scene, or a short commercial. Learn how to write a script and use the necessary tools to direct and edit short-form video projects on an Android smart tablet or iOS device, using iMovie. Showcase your film for family and friends at the ESF big-screen event on the last day — the Major Camp Film Festival. No prior experience with iMovie necessary and all skill levels welcome.

Minecraft Video Game Design:

1 week

Use your imagination and learn how to design, build and explore exciting new 3D video game worlds. Get instruction in mods, programming (Redstone) and 3D Design. Fine-tune your problem-solving skills as you navigate the various construction challenges of this new environment. Showcase your 3D world to family and friends at the Major Camps Minecraft Convention. No prior experience with Redstone or Minecraft necessary and all skill levels welcome.

Robotics:

1 week

Learn how to design and build a robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS®. Program your robot to perform projectoriented tasks and challenges. For novices, start with the basics of construction and programming. For the more experienced, develop sophisticated programming and engineering skills. Showcase your robot’s unique abilities for family and friends at the R-BOTX Convention. No prior experience with Lego Mindstorms necessary and all skill levels welcome.

AQUATICS PROGRAM

SWIMMING IS ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING PARTS OF THE CAMP DAY. UNDER THE GUIDANCE AND WATCHFUL EYE OF OUR RED CROSS-CERTIFIED LIFEGUARDS AND INSTRUCTORS, CAMPERS DEVELOP LIFE SKILLS TOO VALUABLE TO MEASURE WHILE LEARNING TO SWIM CONFIDENTLY IN A SAFE AND FUN ENVIRONMENT.

Swimming at ESF

We develop swimmers utilizing the latest teaching techniques and coaching methods. Beginning with water safety skills and basic fundamentals, we then move on to progressive stroke development and refinement of techniques. Our well-established program is designed to be compatible with the unique and ever-changing abilities and skill levels of each camper. ESF also offers private swim instruction to campers who are interested in devoting more time to enhancing their skills.

Day Camp (Age 4-8)

With daily instructional swimming, campers receive an initial skill assessment and then progress at their own pace. Progress reports sent home weekly.

Sports Camp

Age 6-7: With daily instructional swimming, campers receive an initial skill assessment and then progress at their own pace. Progress reports sent home weekly.

Age 8-14:

Recreational swimming is offered daily. If campers choose to participate, they receive an initial deep water safety test to assess their skill level. Optional swimming instruction is also offered 2 days per week, at no extra charge.

After Camp

ESF also offers private swim instruction to campers who are interested in devoting more time to enhancing their skills.

Private Swim Instruction

Available under the guidance and direction of our Red Cross Certified Instructors and Lifeguards. Lessons are designed to be compatible with individual camper needs and skill levels. To enroll, please call the camp office. All lessons held at camp after 3:30pm.

ESF Aquatics Staff

Our all-adult staff is made up of certified lifeguards and instructors who are trained to teach our program and adhere to impeccable safety protocols. We maintain a low staff to camper ratio.

Seasoned leader who oversees the ESF swimming program as well as the overall quality and excellence in pool area.

ESF has established skill levels that campers progress through at their own pace.

Skill & Safety Testing

Campers are tested on their first day of camp for skill assessment and/or safety in deep water, depending on age and skill level.

Awards & Progress Reports

Campers receive awards as they progress through each skill level. We provide updates on camper progress on a weekly basis or upon request, depending on age and skill level.

CLUB OT

On a regular or a drop-in basis, start the day as early as 7:30am and stay as late as 6pm. Club OT campers are divided into groups by age and enjoy sports, games, crafts, chess, book club, drama, theater and much more. Afternoon snacks and refreshments provided. Flexible scheduling with no pre-payment or -registration required. Billing is done twice a month by mail.

Overnight Adventure Expedition Camp

A unique, week-long overnight experience where ESF campers from PA, NJ, CT, NY & MD come together for fun, friendship, and leadership-based adventure programming. Complete both sides of the application, sign the back, and return with a $300 deposit per camper. Once we receive and review your application, a confirmation/invoice will be mailed to verify your reservation(s). Balance is due by April 1, 2014. Grouping Requests

If you would like your child grouped with a specific friend, please write the friend’s name and home phone number on the application. Grouped campers MUST be entering the same grade next fall.

Health History Record

For the health and safety of all campers, no child will be allowed to attend camp without a completed ESF Health History Record on file. After enrollment, this form will be mailed to you and must be returned prior to camp.

Limited Enrollment

To maintain a low camper to staff ratio and to ensure a quality experience for your child, applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Transportation

If you’d like to organize your own car pool, please check the appropriate box on the application. In May, interested parents will receive a contact list of other families in their town who are also interested in carpooling.

Camp T-Shirt

All campers will receive an official camp t-shirt. Please circle your child’s shirt size on the attached application.

Optional Lunch Program

Campers may bring their lunch and drink to camp which we refrigerate, or they can participate in our lunch program for an additional cost of $35/week. To sign up, please check the appropriate box on the application.

Refreshments & Snacks

Campers are provided with a snack and juice each day. Water coolers and fountains are easily accessible to campers throughout the day.

Camp Orientation

All important camp-related materials will be distributed at Camp Orientation which will take place in late May or early June. Your attendance is highly recommended to help make your child’s transition into camp as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Orientation dates and times will be mailed in May.

Cancellations & Changes

All cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing by April 1, 2014, and are subject to a $50 processing fee per child. No refunds after April 1, 2014. Mix Major Camps with other ESF programs and enjoy multi-week savings! If combining enrollment with other ESF Camps for 6+ weeks, Major Camps’ weekly rates range from $505.56 to $585.00 (with the exception of Overnight Adventure Expedition Camp).

Family Discount

Save 5% on each child’s tuition after the first enrolled child in your family.

Group Savings

Tell friends about camp, send 3 or more applications in the same envelope or enroll online the same day, and receive a 5% savings on each camper’s tuition.

Flexibility & Multi-Week Savings

We offer program mixing and flexible scheduling with 1-9 week options. Your weeks do not need to be consecutive. Enroll for 6 weeks or more for reduced weekly rates.
