Located at Chapman University, the Sandi Simon Center for Dance reimagines a former orange-packing factory as a contemporary performance space. The historic exterior is preserved, while the interior is opened up to create new, connected volumes. Original structural elements remain visible alongside modern additions. At the center, a warm wood performance space contrasts with the surrounding white interior, highlighting the meeting of history and contemporary dance

Fall 2024

Professor: Cadence Bayley Eric Pineda

This project creates a vibrant, multi-layered community that reflects the energy of an urban village. By combining public spaces, shared amenities, diverse housing types, and commercial areas, the design encourages interaction between students, families, and the broader community. Views toward Mission Hill strengthen the connection to the surrounding context, while varied materials across buildings create a welcoming, human-scaled environment that fosters belonging.

San Francisco, CA

Studio 03

Fall 2024

Professor: Cadence Bayley Paulett Taggart Architects

Located in Bayview-Hunters Point, this 267unit public housing site built in 1956 faced deteriorating buildings, steep terrain, disconnected streets, and limited services, resulting in isolation and safety concerns. The redesign reconnects the neighborhood through linked streets and housing that steps with the hillside, reflecting San Francisco’s scale and rhythm. Sustainable strategies, including stormwater management and renewable energy, are integrated, while apartments are designed to resemble individual homes with private or shared stoops to foster community.

Summer 2025

Professor: Ernesto Carvajal

Eric Pineda & Srishti Sao Lowell, MA

Inspired by Lowell and its historic canal system, the project reflects the city’s legacy of industrial infrastructure, suspension, and flow. The existing masonry structure, once spatially restrictive, now houses enclosed functions like classrooms and offices. In contrast, a reinforced concrete addition creates large, open spans connected by bridges, promoting movement, collaboration, and visual connectivity.
