Beliefs and attitudes concerning death and its portrayal have changed throughout human history and there are all subject to cultural and religious influences. The one thing that hasn’t changed, even among different religions, is the belief of the afterlife. However, during the Enlightenment the human mind broke free from any kind of superstitions and myths and started to rely only on reason, which brought a lot of changes in the way man perceives the world around him.
The question that we will try to answer on this dissertation is:
What was the influence of the Enlightenment on the image and the attitude of man towards death and how was it illustrated?
