TIPS
Transportation The city is well-connected with a network of subways and buses. The subways is safe, clean, and reaches various areas of interest. To travel by metro, you need a BIP card, which costs $2.5 and can be loaded depending on the number of trips you need. It can be purchased at the metro station and is integrated with the bus system. Taxis cost approximately $2 per kilometer; ensure that you are not overcharged. Uber is also an option.
Entertainment We recommend visiting Cerro San Cristóbal. The panoramic views of the Andes mountains are wonderful. The entrance is near the Pedro de Valdivia metro station, and you can go up by cable car, funicular, or on walk. For bars, we recommend Barrio Italia and Barrio Lastarria. For shopping, visit Mercado Urbano Tobalaba and Parque Arauco. For outings, visit Pueblito Los Dominicos, the Museum of Memory, Mercado La Vega (to see different fruits and vegetables), and the Museum Precolombino.
Safety While Santiago de Chile is one of the safest cities in Latin America, you still need to take certain precautions, such as taking care of your belongings: cell phones and cameras. Avoid walking alone in isolated and poorly lit neighborhoods. In case of an incident, you can seek help from the Chilean police (Carabineros).
