Rap star Lil Wayne suffers seizures, is hospitalized
LOS ANGELES - Grammywinning rap star Lil Wayne was taken to hospital on Sunday after suffering a seizure and being found unconscious in his Chicago hotel room, TMZ said on its web site. Lil Wayne, 34, who has become one of the biggest names in rap music over a two-decade career, suffered a second seizure at the hospital, TMZ added, and his representative confirmed to the site that he had suffered multiple seizures. Reuters could not reach representatives of the rapper to confirm
the report. The incident comes more than a year after the rap star, whose Grammy wins include the best rap album award in 2008 for “Tha Carter III,” was treated after suffering what his representatives called two minor seizures. Four years ago Lil Wayne, whose given name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, spent several days
at a Los Angeles hospital, after which he told radio station Power 106 he was epileptic and prone to seizures. Lil Wayne had been set to perform in Las Vegas late on Sunday night. BERNE - Neutral Switzerland is prepared to act as mediator to help resolve the North Korea crisis, including by hosting ministerial talks, Swiss President Doris Leuthard said on Monday. Leuthard said Swiss troops were deployed on the demarcation zone between South Korea and North Korea and noted that her country - along with Sweden - had a long history of neutral and discreet diplomacy. But China and the United States had to take their share of responsibility, she added, warning of “over-reactions”. Sanctions “did not change many things” in terms of convincing Pyongyang to abandon its weapons programmes even though North Korea’s population had suffered, Leuthard said. A day after the North’s largest nuclear test yet, Seoul said on Monday it was talking to Washington about deploying aircraft carriers and strategic bombers to the Korean peninsula after signs Pyongyang might launch more missiles. “I think it really is time for dialogue,” Leuthard told a news conference in Berne. “...We are ready to offer our role for good services as a mediator. I think in the upcoming weeks a lot will depend on how the U.S. and China can have an influence in this crisis. That’s why I think Switzerland and Sweden can have a role behind the curtain.” Part of the task would be to find a suitable location for officials -- perhaps the
countries’ foreign ministers -- to meet, she said. “I think that’s our role to look at what kind of possibilities we find. Because, well, Twitter won’t be an adequate instrument... Dairy farm businesses have not developed in Bali.
DENPASAR — Bali’s dairy industry no longer exists. There used to be pasteurized cow milk that was packed in bottles and sold to households, however this has all but disappeared. “There is still a goat milk processing company in Singaraja. They pasteurize goat milk by heating it to 80 degrees Celsius to kill germs. This milk is sold in Denpasar”, said Prof. Dr. Nyoman Suparta, on Thursday (Aug. 31). This business operates on a small scale though nit on an industrial scale, despite the rather large potential market in Bali. There are currently no dairy cows here, explained Prof Suparta. There used to be dairy cows in Bangli and in Bedugul, but neither of these places are producing milk anymore. According to Prof Suparta studies on the matter, dairy businesses have not done well in Bali because Balinese people do not drink much if any milk. Unlike India and Bangladesh were people habitually drink milk, here only children under 5 years old really drink milk. Milk consumption in India and Bangladesh averages 38 liters per year per capita, while milk consumption in Bali averages 2 liters per capita per year. Prof. Suparta in tandem with lecturers from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry at Udayana University, have developed kefir milk dairy products after researching processing methods. Kefir milk is made by processing the kefir pro-bioti into pro-biotic milk. Kefir Milk tastes slightly sour but is very good for digestion and also functions as a rough fiber and anti-oxidant. “This product is popular with people who understand about health. Such people are eager for the dairy products that we produce in the livestock laboratory”, said Suparta. (kmb42)

People urged not to burn leaves and garbage
BANGLI —Communities living near forested areas in Kintamani are being urged not to set any fires near or in the forest as the forest is vulnerable to being set ablaze – especially during the dry season. Section Head of Emergency and Logistics at the Bangli Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Ketut Agus Sutapa, said on Sunday (Sep. 3) that forested areas in Kintamani are generally prone to forest fires. Almost every dry season, there are forest fires in Kintamani. The areas that are particularly prone to forests fires are Suter, Buahan, Terunyan and Pinggan villages. Most of the fires that have occurred in the forest areas of
Kintamani were started as a result of human error. According to information from the BPBD Bangli, almost all the fires in the area were caused by people deliberately burning their fields during the dry season so that they become more fertile during the rainy season. However all too often these fires burn out of control. Another common cause for forest fires is people throwing out their cigarette butts near the forest. “ It is very rare that fires are
cause by friction amongst the tree because the trees in Kintamani and not very big and are relatively from from each other”, he said. In order to prevent forest fires during this year’s dry season, the BPBD is urging the public to be vigilant and to participate actively in caring for the forest. One way to do this is by not throwing out cigarette butts carelessly near forested areas. Also anyone who lives near these forests and who uses the forest to look for animal feed for example are asked not to burn anything while they are in the forest. “We are asking that nothing be burned in the forest as such fires, though apparently
harmless often lead to large forest fires”, he said. As executive director of BPBD Bangli, Agus plans to hold a meeting with a number of forestry related agencies such as Kintamani forest authorities the KPH and BKSDA in order to coordinate efforts to prevent fires from occurring this dry season. a ditch with his hoe, when he hit a hard object at the bottom of the narrow ditch. Puzzled by what it could be tried to dig around his hoe kept hitting what appeared to be a stone. His curiosity changed to surprise as he found that the stone had a head. “After unearthing the strange object, the farmer realised that his hoe had been hitting the shell of a large turtle- like animal”, explained Jro Wayan Mas Suyasa. Nobody imagined that such an animal could be found at the bottom of a ditch and in fact such an animals had never bee seen before. Panicked with his finding, this farmer then asked other farmers to help him carry this mysterious animal out to the field. Because the animal looked somewhat like a turtle the farmers decided to release the beast into the sea near Bugbug Customary Village. However, a few hours after the turtle was released, some local fishermen found the mysterious black
animal on the beach. Confused about the situation, the incident was reported to the chief of Bugbug Customary Village and shortly thereafter the animal was brought to the chief’s home. According to Jro Wayan Mas Suyasa, the mysterious turtle-like animal is not commonplace . Although it looks like a turtle, both its shell and head are very different than other turtles. It’s mouth is pointed like the snoute of a pig and the whole beast is black. After hearing the story of the farmers and fishermen, Jro Mas Suyasa determined that it must be some kind of fresh water turtle and in order to protect the animal, he decided that the strange animal should be released in the water lilies filled pond at Candidasa. A special ritual was performed as the black animal was released into the pond and Bugbug customary villagers were asked not to hunt this animal. “Because of its strange shape
and color that resembles abedawang nala, that is the name we have given to this animal”, he added. Jro Wayan Mas Suyasa sees the emergence of such a mysterious animal as a good omen for the village. The bedawang nala animal symbolize the kurma avatar. In the story of Watugunung it is mentioned that bedawang nala is a turtle with strong nails, a chakra tongue, saber-toothed and mace stalk, a very terrible form of tortoise with a large body. Its emergence at Bugbug customary village is read as a sign that the village has been blessed with the grace of God for having maintained their religious traditions. Bugbug village is one of the oldest villages in Bali and has managed to maintain its unique traditions despite efforts to make religious rituals in every village in Bali uniform and the pressures of modernity. The reasons for making such changes are cited as being high costs and efficiency. However it is not the rituals or the materials that need to change rather it is only the extravagance and high costs that need to be changed. It is perfectly acceptable to keep things as simple as possible”, he said. Currently, the mysterious turtle animal has become a tourist attraction drawing visitors to the pond where it was released a few weeks ago. Many foreign and local tourists come to see this endangered animal that has not been seen in any other villages. To keep marine tourism safety, three watchtowers built
SEMARAPURA — The incident of tourist dragged by sea currents in the waters of Nusa Penida gets the attention of the government of Klungkung district. As an anticipation against similar incidents, the security will be tightened. It is done by the construction of watchtowers with the allocation of budget reaching billions of rupiahs. Similarly, this will be supported by the addition of lifeguard.

Head of the Klungkung Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), I Putu Widiada, said on Friday (Sep. 1) that Nusa Penida as a tourism area, especially marine tourism, has not been supported by watchtower. As a result, the monitoring of activity has not been able
to reach broad area. “Currently, there is no watchtower,” he said. Considering it is very important, the government allocates a budget of IDR 1.7 billion for the development. The installation will spread in three points, namely Nusa Gede, Nusa Lembongan and Klungkung
mainland. This project has already passed the tender and the process will start this Monday. “This project will be immediately started at three locations,” he explained. The watchtower will also be equipped with respectively five lifeguards, less than the regent’s
instruction requiring 10 people. This number is adjusted to budget availability. “The provision of lifeguards is adjusted to the budget availability and now each tower has five lifeguards. We will propose it gradually,” continued Widiada. The addition of rubber boats will also be proposed in the regional budget plan (APBD) 2018. Similarly, it is resumed with procurement of diving equipment. “So far, the number has not been determined yet and will be adjusted
to the budget. In essence, it is very necessary,” he said. Widiada confirmed that the addition of these facilities is not separated from the incident of tourists dragged away by sea currents when looking for fish. In August, four tourists were dragged by sea currents, where one of them died. “This is meant to improve security and speed up the handling. Moreover, a tourist was dragged by sea current recently,” he affirmed. (kmb45)
U.S. spacecraft readies for fiery plunge into Saturn after 13-year mission
WASHINGTON - The U.S. space agency’s Cassini spacecraft will end its 13-year mission to Saturn in midSeptember by transmitting data until the final moment before it plunges into the ringed planet’s atmosphere, officials said on Tuesday. Cassini, the first spacecraft to orbit Saturn, will make the last of 22 farewell dives between the planet’s rings and surface on Sept. 15. The spacecraft will then burn up as it heads straight into the gas giant’s crushing atmosphere.
Cassini’s final dive will end a mission that provided groundbreaking discoveries that included seasonal changes on Saturn, the moon Titan’s resemblance to a primordial Earth, and a global ocean on the moon Enceladus with ice plumes spouting from its surface. “The mission has been insanely, wildly, beautifully successful, and it’s coming to an end in about two weeks,” Curt Niebur, Cassini program scientist, said on a telephone conference call with reporters from
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California. Cassini’s final photo as it heads into Saturn’s atmosphere will likely be of propellers, or gaps in the rings caused by moonlets, said project scientist Linda Spilker. The spacecraft will provide near real-time data on the atmosphere until it loses contact with Earth at 4:54 a.m. PDT (1154 GMT) on Sept. 15, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration said. Spilker said Cassini’s latest data on
the rings had shown they had a lighter mass than forecast. That suggests they are younger than expected, at about 120 million years, and thus were created after the birth of the solar system, she said. During its final orbits between the atmosphere and the rings, Cassini also studied Saturn’s atmosphere and took measurements to determine the size of the planet’s rocky core. Cassini has been probing Saturn, the sixth planet from the sun, and its entourage of 62 known moons since
July 2004. It has provided enough data for almost 4,000 scientific papers. Since the craft is running low on fuel, NASA is crashing it into Saturn to avoid any chance Cassini could someday collide with Titan, Enceladus or any other moon that has the potential to support indigenous microbial life. By destroying the spacecraft, NASA will ensure that any hitchhiking Earth microbes still alive on Cassini will not contaminate the moons for future study. (rtr)

CAPE CANAVERAL - NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson left the International Space Station on Saturday, wrapping up a career-total 665 days in orbit, a U.S. record, as she and two crewmates headed for a parachute landing in Kazakhstan. Whitson, 57, ends an extended stay of more than nine months aboard the station, a $100 billion research laboratory that flies about 250 miles (400 km) above Earth. “I feel great,” the biochemist said during an inflight interview on Monday. “I love working up here. It’s one of the most gratifying jobs I’ve ever had.” During her third mission aboard the station Whitson spent much of her time on experiments, including studies of cancerous lung tissue and bone cells. She also completed four spacewalks, adding to her six previous outings, to set a record for the most time spent spacewalking by a woman. Two crewmates who launched with Whitson in November re-
turned to Earth three months ago. She stayed aboard to fill a vacancy after Russia scaled down its station staff from three to two cosmonauts. A thousand labors prepared for cruise ships annually
DENPASAR — Starting in 2018, a total of 1,000 job applicants on cruise ships will be departed each year. In this case, the Bali provincial government through the Manpower and Energy and Mineral Resources provides facilities such as training, cruise fees and visas. “Annually we target to send 1,000 workers that are ready to depart to cruise ship. It will start from 2018 and our target is to send 5,000 cruise ship workers within 5 years,” said Deputy Governor of Bali, Ketut Sudikerta, in Denpasar, on Sunday (Sep. 3). Sudikerta asked young generation in Bali, especially those who are in high school or vocational school, to prepare themselves and nurture the spirit of high learning from early on. So, later on the workers sent to cruise ship have a good quality and can compete in the international job market. When confirmed separately, the Head of the Bali Labor and Energy of Mineral Resources Agency, Ni Luh Made Wiratmi, said the job
opportunities to cruise ships are prioritized for poor students. The violence in Myanmar was set off by a coordinated attack on Aug. 25 on dozens of police posts and an army base by Rohingya insurgents. The ensuing clashes and a major military counter-offensive have killed at least 400 people. Myanmar officials blamed the Rohingya militants for the burning of homes and civilian deaths but rights monitors and Rohingya fleeing to neighbouring Bangladesh say a campaign of arson and killings by the Myanmar army aims to force them out. The treatment of Buddhistmajority Myanmar’s roughly 1.1 million Muslim Rohingya is the biggest challenge facing leader Aung San Suu Kyi, accused by Western critics of not speaking out for the minority that has long complained of persecution. The number of those crossing the border - 87,000 - surpassed the total of Rohingya who escaped Myanmar after a much smaller insurgent attack in October that set off a military operation beset by accusations of serious human rights abuses. The newest estimate, based on the calculations of United Nations’ aid workers in the Bangladeshi border district of Cox’s Bazar, takes to nearly 150,000 the total

If Eren were to lose her work eligibility it
would be a blow to his company, Metselaar said. But, he added, “it would be much more of a blow to her family, and to who we are as a country.” Trump is expected to announce a decision to end DACA on Tuesday, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation, but with a delay of up to six months to allow Congress to find a legislative solution. On the campaign trail, Trump promised to quickly repeal the program, but since taking office - even as he has stepped up immigration enforcement - he has at times taken a softer tone about DACA. “We love the Dreamers,” he told reporters on Friday. Im-
migration hard-liners within the Republican Party have pressured the president to scrap the program. Nine Republican state attorneys general have said they will file a legal challenge to the program if the Trump administration does not end it by Tuesday. Many business leaders have urged the president to keep DACA protections in place, including the heads of tech giants Microsoft , Apple and Facebook. They have generally cited a potential hit to the economy if the program were to end, although there is scant government data on Dreamers as a distinct economic group. Still, with the U.S. economy at
close to full employment, ending DACA would bring a net loss in productivity, said Giovanni Peri, an economics professor at the University of California, Davis who studies immigration. Groups that support stricter immigration enforcement say that eliminating the program would bring benefits, too. “The end of DACA would result in much-welcomed job openings for American college graduates and other American workers who are either unemployed or underemployed and feel completely locked out of the workforce and blocked from achieving their American dream,” said Dave Ray, communications director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which favors reduced immigration. In interviews with Reuters, DACA recipients and their employers emphasized another aspect of what it would mean to end the program: The holes such a move would leave in lives and workplaces. “I KNEW SHE WOULD BE SOMEONE” Georgina Lepe, who runs a real estate law and probate practice from her office in Rancho Cucamonga, California, liked Karla Martinez so much she hired her twice. She first met Martinez when she was busing tables at a Mexican restaurant owned by Lepe’s family and was impressed with her work ethic. When Martinez graduated from the University of Southern California in December 2016, Lepe hired her to help temporarily with marketing. Martinez left after a few months to work elsewhere. Lepe later tracked her down and asked her to come back, this time as a full-time legal assistant. “Even when she was working at the restaurant, I knew she would be someone,” said Lepe, who is 30 and, like Martinez, from a Mexican family. “The difference between (us) is, my family was able to help me out financially to achieve my goals.” Martinez, who came to the United States with her mother when she was four, helps pay the bills in the home she shares with her mother and two younger siblings. Lepe says if Martinez’s work permit is rescinded, “I would keep Karla until the very last second” and probably wouldn’t hire a replacement. “I don’t think anyone can compare,” she says. “IT REALLY EMPOWERS YOU” Chuck Rocha, the founder of Solidarity Strategies, employs DACA recipient Luis Alcauter at his Washington D.C.-based political consulting firm, which specializes in outreach to Latinos. Losing Alcauter “would be devastating,” Rocha said. Alcauter, 27, came to the United States from Mexico when he was 13, and attended California State University, Fresno, where he developed an interest in politics, which led to his interning on Capitol Hill. The internship was possible, he said, because of his DACA status. “To be able to have the documents and be able to apply wherever you want, it really empowers you to think beyond the place you were,” Alcauter said. “It just empowers people to be able to find a job, to get a car, to buy a house, to move around, to contribute to their families.” “I ACTUALLY HAVE A GOOD CAR” Juan Ochoa, CEO of Miramar Group, an Illinois-based facilities management company that oversees 1,200 buildings nationwide, said his company will hire an attorney to try to keep DACA employee Jay Meza, 23, if the program ends. “I have a good job now,” said Meza, who came to the United States from Mexico with his parents and brother when he was 3 years old. “I actually am looking forward to buying my first house. Fascinating and very photogenic. You cannot swim here at low tide. Note that much of the immediate off-beach area here is used for drying seaweed and it has a very distinct, well, seaweedy smell. You get used to it after a while, but some find it gag-worthy. Although the beach at Jungut Batu may not be the best place to swim due to all the boats anchored off shore, it’s still possible to find a small stretch
to take a dip and cool off in. Just look at the village kids who do this on a daily basis and see how much fun they have! The beach also offers stunning views across to Mount Agung in Bali on a clear day, and the sunsets from this side of the island are some of the best we reckon. Heading south from the main beach, there’s a lovely little walkway that takes you up to the bukit or hill, where more upmarket accommodation is available. Los Angeles ‘turns corner’ on largest wildfire in city history LOS ANGELES - A smattering of rain and easing temperatures helped more than 1,000 firefighters battling the largest wildfire in Los Angeles history gain the upper hand on the blaze on Sunday, but officials warned that danger remains. “We’ve turned the corner, but this is not over,” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti told reporters. “With winds this strong, anything can happen.” Shifting winds could cause burning embers to spread the fire once more through the rugged northern edge of Los Angeles, said Garcetti. The nearly 5,900-acre (2400-hectare) La Tuna Fire, named after the canyon area where it erupted on Friday, has destroyed three homes and damaged one. More than 700 homes were evacuated as the blaze tore through thick brush that has not burned in decades. Of the 1,400 people evacuated from their homes, 90 percent had returned by Sunday afternoon and Garcetti said nearly all would be back before the day was over. The wildfire is the largest in terms of acreage in the city’s history, Garcetti said. It was considered 30 percent contained by late Sunday night, up from 10 percent Sunday morning. “We do not have this fire contained,” Garcetti said, “but we do have a good sense of, in the next day or two, how we can bring this fire to rest.” The stretch of the 210 freeway, a major thoroughfare that has been closed for several days, will reopen either Sunday night or Monday morning, Garcetti said. Los Angeles County, home to 10 million people and vast tracts of undeveloped mountainous land, has suffered much larger wildfires that have burned for weeks. California Governor Jerry Brown on Sunday declared a state of emergency for Los Angeles County, which will ease the path for state and federal help to fight the fire. Temperatures in the area have hovered around 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) in recent days. But the mercury was in the low 90s on Sunday, and the temperatures are expected to be moderate and the humidity higher in the coming days, positive signs for containing the fire, said Los Angeles Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas. Garcetti said four firefighters had suffered dehydration or minor burns. More than 400 miles (644 km) to the north, the so-called Ponderosa Fire has burned 4,000 acres, or 1,620 hectares, and destroyed 32 homes in Butte County since it started on Tuesday, prompting evacuation orders to residents of about 500 homes. The blaze was 64 percent contained on Sunday evening, up from 56 percent earlier in the day. (rtr)

BERLIN - Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared to hold her ground in a television debate ahead of German elections, under attack from her Social Democrat (SPD) rival on refugee policy, ties with Turkey and her handling of U.S. President Donald Trump. Merkel was some 14 points ahead of Martin Schulz in opinion polls before the debate. A survey by Infratest Dimap for ARD television showed her overall performance was viewed as more convincing by 55 percent, compared to 35 percent for Schulz. Three weeks from voting day, centre-left contender Schulz went on the offensive from the outset of the 97-minute debate - his only televised duel with Merkel, who looked rattled at times but showed enough authority to win. Schulz, 61, outfoxed Merkel on ties with Turkey and bounced her into beefing up her rhetoric by vowing to stop Ankara’s bid to join the European Union if he was elected chancellor. JAKARTA - A former Indonesian Constitutional Court judge was jailed for eight years on Monday for accepting bribes to influence court rulings, the state news agency Antara reported. Patrialis Akbar, the second constitutional court judge to be convicted of corruption in three years, was also fined 300 million rupiah ($22,500). Akbar was accused of accepting $10,000 in bribes and causing losses to the state. He denied wrongdoing but a lawyer representing him said he was not sure if Akbar would appeal against the sentence. “The state did not suffer losses in this case,” said the lawyer, Indra Sahnun Lubis, adding that the legal team would decide in a few days whether or not to appeal. Corruption in widespread in Southeast Asia’s biggest economy and the judiciary is consistently perceived by the public to be among its most corrupt institutions, according to Transparency International. The Constitutional Court, once regarded as a model of integrity, has been rocked by bribery scandals in recent years. Its former chief justice was in 2014 jailed for life for accepting bribes and money laundering in connection with an election dispute. It was the heaviest sentence ever handed out for graft in Indonesia. The Constitutional Court hears cases regarding election disputes and challenges to laws.(rtr)
Rohingya tragedy violated humanitarian principles: Minister DEPOK - Indonesias Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly has expressed regret over the tragedy striking the Rohingya community in Myanmar that had violated humanitarian principles. “I deeply regret the tragedy affecting the Rohingya community that has violated the principles of human rights,” Laoly noted on the sidelines of the International Conference themed “1st ASEAN Symposium of Criminology” held at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences in the University of Indonesia in Depok, Monday. He also said President Joko Widodo had instructed Foreign Affairs Minister Retno P. Marsudi to visit Myanmar to provide assistance to settle the Rohingya issue. “Long before the event took place, we have paid greater attention to the Rohingya community by building schools and offering humanitarian aid,” he pointed out. “It is now time to not merely speak about it but to take tangible action in helping the Rohingya community,” he reiterated. The minister also expressed regret over the circulation of fake photographs on the Rohingya tragedy, for instance, images from a completely different disaster that were being portrayed as though they were pictures depicting the Rohingya victims, when in reality, they had nothing to do with it. “Several pictures that were being circulated clearly were not of the Rohingya community,” he confirmed. To this end, he encouraged the community to not be easily provoked or take actions that may trigger mass unrest through the circulation of false pictures or hoax news.(ant)

Indonesian minister to meet Suu Kyi amid protests over Rohingya
JAKARTA - Indonesia’s foreign minister is due to meet Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday to discuss delivering humanitarian aid to members of Myanmar’s Rohingya minority, as Indonesian protesters urged their government to take a tougher line. Dozens of Indonesians protested outside the Myanmar embassy in Jakarta on Monday, calling for a cut in diplomatic ties with Myanmar over violence against its Rohingya Muslim minority. Aid agencies estimate that about 90,000 Rohingya have fled from Myanmar into neighbouring Bangladesh since violence erupted in the north of Rakhine state last week. “We will discuss in detail Indonesia’s proposal on how Indonesia can give humanitarian aid to Rakhine state,” Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said in a video statement from the Myanmar city of Yangon. She is also scheduled to travel to Bangladesh to urge authorities there to protect fleeing Rohingya refugees. In a sign of mounting public anger in Jakarta, a petrol bomb was
thrown at the Myanmar embassy on Sunday, causing a small fire. The protests follow demonstrations in Malaysia and condemnation from world leaders such as President Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, who on Friday said the violence against Muslims amounted to genocide. The Rohingya are denied citizenship in Myanmar and regarded as illegal immigrants, despite claiming roots that date back centuries. Bangladesh is also growing increasingly hostile to Rohingya, more than 400,000 of whom live in the poor South Asian country after fleeing Myanmar since the early 1990s. Indonesia is home to the world’s largest population of Muslims. Its government has been actively involved in providing aid for Myan-
mar to develop Rakhine state and protect the rights of the Rohingya, alongside the majority Buddhist community. Ifah Rohma, an activist from a Jakarta-based organisation called Muslim Friends of Rohingya, said many Indonesians as fellow Muslims were concerned about the fate of Rohingya. “Indonesia should not be engaging in soft diplomacy,” Rohma said outside the Myanmar embassy, which was surrounded by heavy security and barbed wire. “Now is the time to cut ties, recall our ambassador and expel their ambassador,” she said. NEW YORK - Sam Querrey, the last American man standing at the U.S. Open, would not be knocked off his feet as he strolled into the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows with a 6-2 6-2 6-1 demolition of Germany’s Mischa Zverev on Sunday. What looked an intriguing matchup of styles between the big-hitting American and Zverev, a left-handed serve-volleyer, was rendered a one-sided show for a delighted capacity crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Querrey, looking to followup his semi-final run at Wimbledon with an even better effort at Flushing Meadows, needed just 77 minutes to dismiss the German to become the first American to reach the U.S.

It was a ruthless performance by Querrey as he bombarded Zverev with 18 aces and avenged the German’s victory over top seeded American John Isner in the third round. “I really could not have done anything much better out there, I was kind of in the zone. It’s my first time playing out here at night and I wanted to make the most of it,” said Querrey. “I came out of the chute hot and once I broke early I felt I was off to the races and I felt comfortable three minutes into the match and I think that was the key.” Querrey stormed out of the gate breaking his 30-year-old opponent

NEW YORK - Sam Querrey, the last American man standing at the U.S. Open, would not be knocked off his feet as he strolled into the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows with a 6-2 6-2 6-1 demolition of Germany’s Mischa Zverev on Sunday. What looked an intriguing matchup of styles between the big-hitting American and Zverev, a left-handed serve-volleyer, was rendered a one-sided show for a delighted capacity crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Querrey, looking to followup his semi-final run at Wimbledon with an even better effort at Flushing Meadows, needed just 77 minutes to dismiss the German to become the first American to reach the U.S.

It was a ruthless performance by Querrey as he bombarded Zverev with 18 aces and avenged the German’s victory over top seeded American John Isner in the third round. “I really could not have done anything much better out there, I was kind of in the zone. Los Angeles ‘turns corner’ on largest wildfire in city history LOS ANGELES - A smattering of rain and easing temperatures helped more than 1,000 firefighters battling the largest wildfire in Los Angeles history gain the upper hand on the blaze on Sunday, but officials warned that danger remains. “We’ve turned the corner, but this is not over,” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti told reporters. “With winds this strong, anything can happen.” Shifting winds could cause burning embers to spread the fire once more through the rugged northern edge of Los Angeles, said Garcetti. The nearly 5,900-acre (2400-hectare) La Tuna Fire, named after the canyon area where it erupted on Friday, has destroyed three homes and damaged one. More than 700 homes were evacuated as the blaze tore through thick brush that has not burned in decades. Of the 1,400 people evacuated from their homes, 90 percent had returned by Sunday afternoon and Garcetti said nearly all would be back before the day was over. The wildfire is the largest in terms of acreage in the city’s history, Garcetti said. It was considered 30 percent contained by late Sunday night, up from 10 percent Sunday morning. “We do not have this fire contained,” Garcetti said, “but we do have a good sense of, in the next day or two, how we can bring this fire to rest.” The stretch of the 210 freeway, a major thoroughfare that has been closed for several days, will reopen either Sunday night or Monday morning, Garcetti said. Los Angeles County, home to 10 million people and vast tracts of undeveloped mountainous land, has suffered much larger wildfires that have burned for weeks. California Governor Jerry Brown on Sunday declared a state of emergency for Los Angeles County, which will ease the path for state and federal help to fight the fire. Temperatures in the area have hovered around 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) in recent days. But the mercury was in the low 90s on Sunday, and the temperatures are expected to be moderate and the humidity higher in the coming days, positive signs for containing the fire, said Los Angeles Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas. Garcetti said four firefighters had suffered dehydration or minor burns. More than 400 miles (644 km) to the north, the so-called Ponderosa Fire has burned 4,000 acres, or 1,620 hectares, and destroyed 32 homes in Butte County since it started on Tuesday, prompting evacuation orders to residents of about 500 homes. BERLIN - Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared to hold her ground in a television debate ahead of German elections, under attack from her Social Democrat (SPD) rival on refugee policy, ties with Turkey and her handling of U.S. President Donald Trump. Merkel was some 14 points ahead of Martin Schulz in opinion polls before the debate. A survey by Infratest Dimap for ARD television showed her overall performance was viewed as more convincing by 55 percent, compared to 35 percent for Schulz. Three weeks from voting day, centre-left contender Schulz went on the offensive from the outset of the 97-minute debate - his only televised duel with Merkel, who looked rattled at times but showed enough authority to win. JAKARTA - A former Indonesian Constitutional Court judge was jailed for eight years on Monday for accepting bribes to influence court rulings, the state news agency Antara reported. Patrialis Akbar, the second constitutional court judge to be convicted of corruption in three years, was also fined 300 million rupiah ($22,500). Akbar was accused of accepting $10,000 in bribes and causing losses to the state. He denied wrongdoing but a lawyer representing him said he was not sure if Akbar would appeal against the sentence. “The state did not suffer losses in this case,” said the lawyer, Indra Sahnun Lubis, adding that the legal team would decide in a few days whether or not to appeal. Corruption in widespread in Southeast Asia’s biggest economy and the judiciary is consistently perceived by the public to be among its most corrupt institutions, according to Transparency International. The Constitutional Court, once regarded as a model of integrity, has been rocked by bribery scandals in recent years. Its former chief justice was in 2014 jailed for life for accepting bribes and money laundering in connection with an election dispute. Rohingya tragedy violated humanitarian principles: Minister DEPOK - Indonesias Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly has expressed regret over the tragedy striking the Rohingya community in Myanmar that had violated humanitarian principles. “I deeply regret the tragedy affecting the Rohingya community that has violated the principles of human rights,” Laoly noted on the sidelines of the International Conference themed “1st ASEAN Symposium of Criminology” held at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences in the University of Indonesia in Depok, Monday. He also said President Joko Widodo had instructed Foreign Affairs Minister Retno P. Marsudi to visit Myanmar to provide assistance to settle the Rohingya issue. “Long before the event took place, we have paid greater attention to the Rohingya community by building schools and offering humanitarian aid,” he pointed out. “It is now time to not merely speak about it but to take tangible action in helping the Rohingya community,” he reiterated. The minister also expressed regret over the circulation of fake photographs on the Rohingya tragedy, for instance, images from a completely different disaster that were being portrayed as though they were pictures depicting the Rohingya victims, when in reality, they had nothing to do with it. “Several pictures that were being circulated clearly were not of the Rohingya community,” he confirmed. JAKARTA - Indonesia’s foreign minister is due to meet Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday to discuss delivering humanitarian aid to members of Myanmar’s Rohingya minority, as Indonesian protesters urged their government to take a tougher line. Dozens of Indonesians protested outside the Myanmar embassy in Jakarta on Monday, calling for a cut in diplomatic ties with Myanmar over violence against its Rohingya Muslim minority. Aid agencies estimate that about 90,000 Rohingya have fled from Myanmar into neighbouring Bangladesh since violence erupted in the north of Rakhine state last week. “We will discuss in detail Indonesia’s proposal on how Indonesia can give humanitarian aid to Rakhine state,” Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said in a video statement from the Myanmar city of Yangon. Bangladesh is also growing increasingly hostile to Rohingya, more than 400,000 of whom live in the poor South Asian country after fleeing Myanmar since the early 1990s. Indonesia is home to the world’s largest population of Muslims. Its government has been actively involved in providing aid for Myan-
mar to develop Rakhine state and protect the rights of the Rohingya, alongside the majority Buddhist community. Ifah Rohma, an activist from a Jakarta-based organisation called Muslim Friends of Rohingya, said many Indonesians as fellow Muslims were concerned about the fate of Rohingya. “Indonesia should not be engaging in soft diplomacy,” Rohma said outside the Myanmar embassy, which was surrounded by heavy security and barbed wire. “Now is the time to cut ties, recall our ambassador and expel their ambassador,” she said. On the campaign trail, Trump promised to quickly repeal the program, but since taking office - even as he has stepped up immigration enforcement - he has at times taken a softer tone about DACA. “We love the Dreamers,” he told reporters on Friday. migration hard-liners within the Republican Party have pressured the president to scrap the program. Nine Republican state attorneys general have said they will file a legal challenge to the program if the Trump administration does not end it by Tuesday. Many business leaders have urged the president to keep DACA protections in place, including the heads of tech giants Microsoft , Apple and Facebook. They have generally cited a potential hit to the economy if the program were to end, although there is scant government data on Dreamers as a distinct economic group. Still, with the U.S. economy at
close to full employment, ending DACA would bring a net loss in productivity, said Giovanni Peri, an economics professor at the University of California, Davis who studies immigration. Groups that support stricter immigration enforcement say that eliminating the program would bring benefits, too. “The end of DACA would result in much-welcomed job openings for American college graduates and other American workers who are either unemployed or underemployed and feel completely locked out of the workforce and blocked from achieving their American dream,” said Dave Ray, communications director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which favors reduced immigration. In interviews with Reuters, DACA recipients and their employers emphasized another aspect of what it would mean to end the program: The holes such a move would leave in lives and workplaces. “I KNEW SHE WOULD BE SOMEONE” Georgina Lepe, who runs a real estate law and probate practice from her office in Rancho Cucamonga, California, liked Karla Martinez so much she hired her twice. She first met Martinez when she was busing tables at a Mexican restaurant owned by Lepe’s family and was impressed with her work ethic. When Martinez graduated from the University of Southern California in December 2016, Lepe hired her to help temporarily with marketing. Martinez left after a few months to work elsewhere. Lepe later tracked her down and asked her to come back, this time as a full-time legal assistant. “Even when she was working at the restaurant, I knew she would be someone,” said Lepe, who is 30 and, like Martinez, from a Mexican family. “The difference between (us) is, my family was able to help me out financially to achieve my goals.” Martinez, who came to the United States with her mother when she was four, helps pay the bills in the home she shares with her mother and two younger siblings. Lepe says if Martinez’s work permit is rescinded, “I would keep Karla until the very last second” and probably wouldn’t hire a replacement. “I don’t think anyone can compare,” she says. “IT REALLY EMPOWERS YOU” Chuck Rocha, the founder of Solidarity Strategies, employs DACA recipient Luis Alcauter at his Washington D.C.-based political consulting firm, which specializes in outreach to Latinos. Losing Alcauter “would be devastating,” Rocha said. Alcauter, 27, came to the United States from Mexico when he was 13, and attended California State University, Fresno, where he developed an interest in politics, which led to his interning on Capitol Hill. The internship was possible, he said, because of his DACA status. “To be able to have the documents and be able to apply wherever you want, it really empowers you to think beyond the place you were,” Alcauter said. “It just empowers people to be able to find a job, to get a car, to buy a house, to move around, to contribute to their families.” “I ACTUALLY HAVE A GOOD CAR” Juan Ochoa, CEO of Miramar Group, an Illinois-based facilities management company that oversees 1,200 buildings nationwide, said his company will hire an attorney to try to keep DACA employee Jay Meza, 23, if the program ends. “I have a good job now,” said Meza, who came to the United States from Mexico with his parents and brother when he was 3 years old. “I actually am looking forward to buying my first house. I actually have a good car.” Ochoa said Meza started at Miramar doing data entry and analyzing spreadsheets and went on to help the company build a system allowing it to track its buildings and employees. “We have invested a lot of time and money in training Jay, and so it would be a significant loss to us,” he said.(rtr)

The waterfall with a height of approximately 20 meters flows from five springs namely the Kibul, Besi, Belatuk, Pasucian Bathara Pucak Sari and Getar. people swimming here. That’s not to say it isn’t a pretty beach though. The sunsets can be fabulous and at low tide the entire seaweed industry will be laid out for you to observe. Fascinating and very photogenic. You cannot swim here at low tide. Note that much of the immediate off-beach area here is used for drying seaweed and it has a very distinct, well, seaweedy smell. You get used to it after a while, but some find it gag-worthy. Although the beach at Jungut Batu may not be the best place to swim due to all the boats anchored off shore, it’s still possible to find a small stretch
to take a dip and cool off in. Just look at the village kids who do this on a daily basis and see how much fun they have! The beach also offers stunning views across to Mount Agung in Bali on a clear day, and the sunsets from this side of the island are some of the best we reckon. Heading south from the main beach, there’s a lovely little walkway that takes you up to the bukit or hill, where more upmarket accommodation is available. A thousand labors prepared for cruise ships annually
DENPASAR — Starting in 2018, a total of 1,000 job applicants on cruise ships will be departed each year. In this case, the Bali provincial government through the Manpower and Energy and Mineral Resources provides facilities such as training, cruise fees and visas. “Annually we target to send 1,000 workers that are ready to depart to cruise ship. It will start from 2018 and our target is to send 5,000 cruise ship workers within 5 years,” said Deputy Governor of Bali, Ketut Sudikerta, in Denpasar, on Sunday (Sep. 3). Sudikerta asked young generation in Bali, especially those who are in high school or vocational school, to prepare themselves and nurture the spirit of high learning from early on. So, later on the workers sent to cruise ship have a good quality and can compete in the international job market. When confirmed separately, the Head of the Bali Labor and Energy of Mineral Resources Agency, Ni Luh Made Wiratmi, said the job
opportunities to cruise ships are prioritized for poor students. In the draft of the Regional Budget Plan 2018 has even been allocated a budget for 100 poor students of high school and vocational school. S.Korea, U.S. plan more drills after N.Korea nuclear test rattles globe
SEOUL - South Korea said on Monday it was preparing fresh military drills with its ally the United States and ramping up its ballistic missile defences in response to North Korea’s sixth and most powerful nuclear test a day earlier. The United Nations Security Council was set to meet later on Monday to discuss fresh sanctions against the isolated regime. The South’s environment ministry will also announce on Monday its approval of an environmental assessment report for the deployment of a controversial U.S. anti-missile defence system, a ministry official told Reuters. Seoul said in June it would hold off installing the remaining components of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system until it completed an assessment of its impact on the environment. North Korea said an advanced hydrogen bomb for a long-range missile was tested on Sunday, prompting the warning of a “mas-
sive” military response from the United States if it or its allies were threatened. “We are not looking to the total annihilation of a country, namely North Korea,” U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said after meeting Trump and his national security team. “But as I said, we have many options to do so.” Trump has previously vowed to stop North Korea developing nuclear weapons and said he would unleash “fire and fury” if it threatened U.S. territory. In a series of tweets on Sunday, Trump appeared to rebuke South Korea for that approach. “South Korea is finding, as I have told them, that their talk of appeasement with North Korea will not work, they only understand one thing!” Trump said on Twitter. The violence in Myanmar was set off by a coordinated attack on Aug. 25 on dozens of police posts and an army base by Rohingya insurgents. The ensuing clashes and a major military counter-offensive have killed at least 400 people. Myanmar officials blamed the Rohingya militants for the burning of homes and civilian deaths but rights monitors and Rohingya fleeing to neighbouring Bangladesh say a campaign of arson and killings by the Myanmar army aims to force them out. The treatment of Buddhistmajority Myanmar’s roughly 1.1 million Muslim Rohingya is the biggest challenge facing leader Aung San Suu Kyi, accused by Western critics of not speaking out for the minority that has long complained of persecution. The number of those crossing the border - 87,000 - surpassed the total of Rohingya who escaped Myanmar after a much smaller insurgent attack in October that set off a military operation beset by accusations of serious human rights abuses. The newest estimate, based on the calculations of United Nations’ aid workers in the Bangladeshi border district of Cox’s Bazar, takes to nearly 150,000 the total

Head of the Klungkung Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), I Putu Widiada, said on Friday (Sep. 1) that Nusa Penida as a tourism area, especially marine tourism, has not been supported by watchtower. As a result, the monitoring of activity has not been able
to reach broad area. “Currently, there is no watchtower,” he said. Considering it is very important, the government allocates a budget of IDR 1.7 billion for the development. The installation will spread in three points, namely Nusa Gede, Nusa Lembongan and Klungkung
mainland. This project has already passed the tender and the process will start this Monday. “This project will be immediately started at three locations,” he explained. The watchtower will also be equipped with respectively five lifeguards, less than the regent’s

U.S. spacecraft readies for fiery plunge into Saturn after 13-year mission
WASHINGTON - The U.S. space agency’s Cassini spacecraft will end its 13-year mission to Saturn in midSeptember by transmitting data until the final moment before it plunges into the ringed planet’s atmosphere, officials said on Tuesday. Cassini, the first spacecraft to orbit Saturn, will make the last of 22 farewell dives between the planet’s rings and surface on Sept. 15. The spacecraft will then burn up as it heads straight into the gas giant’s crushing atmosphere.
Cassini’s final dive will end a mission that provided groundbreaking discoveries that included seasonal changes on Saturn, the moon Titan’s resemblance to a primordial Earth, and a global ocean on the moon Enceladus with ice plumes spouting from its surface. “The mission has been insanely, wildly, beautifully successful, and it’s coming to an end in about two weeks,” Curt Niebur, Cassini program scientist, said on a telephone conference call with reporters from
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California. Cassini’s final photo as it heads into Saturn’s atmosphere will likely be of propellers, or gaps in the rings caused by moonlets, said project scientist Linda Spilker. The spacecraft will provide near real-time data on the atmosphere until it loses contact with Earth at 4:54 a.m. PDT (1154 GMT) on Sept. 15, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration said. Spilker said Cassini’s latest data on
the rings had shown they had a lighter mass than forecast. That suggests they are younger than expected, at about 120 million years, and thus were created after the birth of the solar system, she said. During its final orbits between the atmosphere and the rings, Cassini also studied Saturn’s atmosphere and took measurements to determine the size of the planet’s rocky core. Cassini has been probing Saturn, the sixth planet from the sun, and its entourage of 62 known moons since
July 2004. It has provided enough data for almost 4,000 scientific papers. Since the craft is running low on fuel, NASA is crashing it into Saturn to avoid any chance Cassini could someday collide with Titan, Enceladus or any other moon that has the potential to support indigenous microbial life. By destroying the spacecraft, NASA will ensure that any hitchhiking Earth microbes still alive on Cassini will not contaminate the moons for future study. (rtr)

CAPE CANAVERAL - NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson left the International Space Station on Saturday, wrapping up a career-total 665 days in orbit, a U.S. record, as she and two crewmates headed for a parachute landing in Kazakhstan. Whitson, 57, ends an extended stay of more than nine months aboard the station, a $100 billion research laboratory that flies about 250 miles (400 km) above Earth. “I feel great,” the biochemist said during an inflight interview on Monday. “I love working up here. It’s one of the most gratifying jobs I’ve ever had.” During her third mission aboard the station Whitson spent much of her time on experiments, including studies of cancerous lung tissue and bone cells. She also completed four spacewalks, adding to her six previous outings, to set a record for the most time spent spacewalking by a woman. Two crewmates who launched with Whitson in November re-
turned to Earth three months ago. She stayed aboard to fill a vacancy after Russia scaled down its station staff from three to two cosmonauts. Whitson returns to Earth with Jack Fischer, also with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Russian cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin, who arrived in June. The crew’s Russian Soyuz capsule was expected to make a parachute touchdown in Kazakhstan at 9:22 p.m. EDT Saturday (0122 GMT Sunday). “I’m looking forward to seeing friends and family,” Whitson said during another interview. “But the thing I’ve been thinking about the most, kind of been fantasizing about a little bit, are foods that I want to make,

At that time, she admitted that her lifestyle was unhealthy, lacking of exercise and eating just for the sake of satiety. “Since then, I tried to change my routine, doing regular exercise with a relaxing run or exercise at a gym or at home, and start eating a healthy diet,” she explained. Actually by going to traditional market just to buy vegetables is much cheaper and healthier. “My healthy capital is to drink fruit juice and vegetables once a day. In the afternoon, I eat rice as usual,” she added. As a woman as well as a wife, doing exercise also provides a plus in the form of slim body. Amid her busy works, she always takes time to exercise. “If my work gets late at night, I will not do any exercise,” she concluded. In a week, Melinda can have exercise 3-4 times. She also loves to consume vegetable juice and various fruits to increase endurance. In addition to vegetables and fruits, she also prefers to eat fish. To smooth digestion, she sometimes also combines juice with yogurt. “In essence, it is the balance of life. Sometimes I want to eat delicious food, but must still be

Dairy farm businesses have not developed in Bali.
DENPASAR — Bali’s dairy industry no longer exists. There used to be pasteurized cow milk that was packed in bottles and sold to households, however this has all but disappeared. “There is still a goat milk processing company in Singaraja. They pasteurize goat milk by heating it to 80 degrees Celsius to kill germs. This milk is sold in Denpasar”, said Prof. Dr. Nyoman Suparta, on Thursday (Aug. 31). This business operates on a small scale though nit on an industrial scale, despite the rather large potential market in Bali. There are currently no dairy cows here, explained Prof Suparta. There used to be dairy cows in Bangli and in Bedugul, but neither of these places are producing milk anymore. According to Prof Suparta studies on the matter, dairy businesses have not done well in Bali because Balinese people do not drink much if any milk. Unlike India and Bangladesh were people habitually drink milk, here only children under 5 years old really drink milk. Milk consumption in India and Bangladesh averages 38 liters per year per capita, while milk consumption in Bali averages 2 liters per capita per year. Prof. Suparta in tandem with lecturers from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry at Udayana University, have developed kefir milk dairy products after researching processing methods. Kefir milk is made by processing the kefir pro-bioti into pro-biotic milk. Kefir Milk tastes slightly sour but is very good for digestion and also functions as a rough fiber and anti-oxidant. “This product is popular with people who understand about health. Such people are eager for the dairy products that we produce in the livestock laboratory”, said Suparta. (kmb42)

People urged not to burn leaves and garbage
BANGLI —Communities living near forested areas in Kintamani are being urged not to set any fires near or in the forest as the forest is vulnerable to being set ablaze – especially during the dry season. Section Head of Emergency and Logistics at the Bangli Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Ketut Agus Sutapa, said on Sunday (Sep. 3) that forested areas in Kintamani are generally prone to forest fires. Almost every dry season, there are forest fires in Kintamani. The areas that are particularly prone to forests fires are Suter, Buahan, Terunyan and Pinggan villages. Most of the fires that have occurred in the forest areas of
Kintamani were started as a result of human error. According to information from the BPBD Bangli, almost all the fires in the area were caused by people deliberately burning their fields during the dry season so that they become more fertile during the rainy season. However all too often these fires burn out of control. Another common cause for forest fires is people throwing out their cigarette butts near the forest. “ It is very rare that fires are
cause by friction amongst the tree because the trees in Kintamani and not very big and are relatively from from each other”, he said. In order to prevent forest fires during this year’s dry season, the BPBD is urging the public to be vigilant and to participate actively in caring for the forest. One way to do this is by not throwing out cigarette butts carelessly near forested areas. Also anyone who lives near these forests and who uses the forest to look for animal feed for example are asked not to burn anything while they are in the forest. “We are asking that nothing be burned in the forest as such fires, though apparently
harmless often lead to large forest fires”, he said. As executive director of BPBD Bangli, Agus plans to hold a meeting with a number of forestry related agencies such as Kintamani forest authorities the KPH and BKSDA in order to coordinate efforts to prevent fires from occurring this dry season. His curiosity changed to surprise as he found that the stone had a head. “After unearthing the strange object, the farmer realised that his hoe had been hitting the shell of a large turtle- like animal”, explained Jro Wayan Mas Suyasa. Nobody imagined that such an animal could be found at the bottom of a ditch and in fact such an animals had never bee seen before. Panicked with his finding, this farmer then asked other farmers to help him carry this mysterious animal out to the field. Because the animal looked somewhat like a turtle the farmers decided to release the beast into the sea near Bugbug Customary Village. However, a few hours after the turtle was released, some local fishermen found the mysterious black
animal on the beach. Confused about the situation, the incident was reported to the chief of Bugbug Customary Village and shortly thereafter the animal was brought to the chief’s home. According to Jro Wayan Mas Suyasa, the mysterious turtle-like animal is not commonplace . Although it looks like a turtle, both its shell and head are very different than other turtles. It’s mouth is pointed like the snoute of a pig and the whole beast is black. After hearing the story of the farmers and fishermen, Jro Mas Suyasa determined that it must be some kind of fresh water turtle and in order to protect the animal, he decided that the strange animal should be released in the water lilies filled pond at Candidasa. A special ritual was performed as the black animal was released into the pond and Bugbug customary villagers were asked not to hunt this animal. “Because of its strange shape
and color that resembles abedawang nala, that is the name we have given to this animal”, he added. Jro Wayan Mas Suyasa sees the emergence of such a mysterious animal as a good omen for the village. The bedawang nala animal symbolize the kurma avatar. In the story of Watugunung it is mentioned that bedawang nala is a turtle with strong nails, a chakra tongue, saber-toothed and mace stalk, a very terrible form of tortoise with a large body. Its emergence at Bugbug customary village is read as a sign that the village has been blessed with the grace of God for having maintained their religious traditions. Bugbug village is one of the oldest villages in Bali and has managed to maintain its unique traditions despite efforts to make religious rituals in every village in Bali uniform and the pressures of modernity. LOS ANGELES - Grammywinning rap star Lil Wayne was taken to hospital on Sunday after suffering a seizure and being found unconscious in his Chicago hotel room, TMZ said on its web site. Lil Wayne, 34, who has become one of the biggest names in rap music over a two-decade career, suffered a second seizure at the hospital, TMZ added, and his representative confirmed to the site that he had suffered multiple seizures. BERNE - Neutral Switzerland is prepared to act as mediator to help resolve the North Korea crisis, including by hosting ministerial talks, Swiss President Doris Leuthard said on Monday. Leuthard said Swiss troops were deployed on the demarcation zone between South Korea and North Korea and noted that her country - along with Sweden - had a long history of neutral and discreet diplomacy. But China and the United States had to take their share of responsibility, she added, warning of “over-reactions”. Sanctions “did not change many things” in terms of convincing Pyongyang to abandon its weapons programmes even though North Korea’s population had suffered, Leuthard said. A day after the North’s largest nuclear test yet, Seoul said on Monday it was talking to Washington about deploying aircraft carriers and strategic bombers to the Korean peninsula after signs Pyongyang might launch more missiles. “I think it really is time for dialogue,” Leuthard told a news conference in Berne. “...We are ready to offer our role for good services as a mediator.
