It will be a pity if now the green hill is suddenly dredged. Moreover, the activity is not completed with license,� added Dwija Wibawa. Meanwhile, the land owner, Gede Arya, acknowledged if the dredging taking place on the hills of his land had been taking place since last Monday had no license. However, he admitted to have informed the Headman of Pesinggahan. “I was indeed advised by the Headman to report to the Klungkung Environment Agency,� said Arya. The dredging was carried out on the area of 1,500 square meters and intended to re-arrange the land on the hill to be used for terraced farmland. To that end, Arya then made cooperation with the owner of heavy equipment through ex-

In other words, Arya did not pay for the dredging services as requested, while the owner of heavy equipment got compensation to sell the soil obtained from the dredging activities. “I decided to use heavy equipment rather than manual dredging because of my previous experience. Conversely, if working with the owner of heavy equipment, I should pay nothing,� he said. Moreover, the dredging was carried out just for the arrangement. He would not let the hill look in tatters like the dredging at several other locations. “I want to change my land to be more economically valuable so that it will turn productive and I do not pay taxes in vain,� he said. ARV therapy improves quality of life of HIV/AIDS sufferers Denpasar (Bali Post)—
Currently, HIV/AIDS indeed has no a cure. So far there has been no drug that can kill this virus. However, it has been found a drug that can weaken the virus and suppress the amount in the body infected so that immunity of cells becoming the main target of the virus will not decrease in amount so that they remain to protect the body from the disease. The drug is called Anti Retro Viral (ARV). According to the Section Head of Special Medical Treatment Service of Sanglah Hospital, Dayu Miswarihati, when met on Monday (Nov 28) said that HIV/AIDS virus attacked the cells of human body immunity to decline in number until reaching a very drastic amount. Decline in the number of bodily immunity cells or commonly known as CD4 (cluster of differentiation 4) made the body of HIV/AIDS sufferers vulnerable to disease. “Any minor disease can be serious for people with HIV/AIDS,� she said. In 2010, approximately 90 people living with HIV/AIDS died in Sanglah Hospital and in the past three months of 2011 was recorded that 13 people living with HIV died. Most of them died of tuberculosis. “People living with HIV/AIDS who died had been in serious condition,� said Dayu.
If detected and got antiretroviral treatment early, the HIV/AIDS sufferers could live a normal life.According to Dayu, the voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) clinic of Sanglah Hospital recorded 800 people with HIV undergoing the antiretroviral therapy and some had been in the therapy for 15-10 years. “The patients are undergoing therapy for life. If implemented on a regular basis then they can live like a normal person and not easily fall ill,� explained Dayu. Antiretroviral drug was given to patients if their CD4 reached 250,000. For the administration, it was needed a counseling and assistance so the patients could take the medicine regularly. Antiretroviral administration to people living with HIV, added Dayu, was provided free of charge by the central government. (san)

Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Police deploy 2,819 personnel for Indonesia-LA Galaxy match Antara
JAKARTA - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police will deploy 2,819 personnel to ensure security during a friendly match between the U-23 national team and LA Galaxy on Wednesday (Nov 30). “Police officers will check every spectator`s belongings,” operations chief Senior Commissioner Agung Budi Maryoto said here on Monday. He said he would station 15 police personnel in addition to five personnel from the committee at every entrance gate.He said the police would also send personnel to secure the teams and also to control traffic. He said however that the Jakarta police would not provide security personnel to guard LA Galaxy players including David Beckham because they have carried their own security guards. “The organizing committee may ask for a special security (for them) but so far no request has made to
us,” he said. Agung said he hoped the committee would be transparent in selling tickets to prevent possible chaos in the stadium. He said the organizing committee must inform the police about the number of tickets to be sold and the time of ticket sales in each counter so that the police could monitor to assure security. The committee predicts the number of spectators may reach 40,000 but the police have urged the committee to also provide some large screen tvs outside the stadium in case more people would come to see the match and the stadium could not accomodate them all. JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted that heavy rains will fall in Jakarta during the next one week starting Tuesday. The heavy rains would have the potential of causing floods, the agency said on Monday. Four areas that would be flooded on Tuesday were Kalideres, Cengkareng, Kembangan and Penjaringan, it said. Head of the BMKG`s Information Service Hari Tirto said the agency had issued a notification about the flood-prone areas in the capital and potential rains on Tuesday (Nov 29).
“Yet Jakarta will remain safe from large flood because the rainfall will not be too high,” he said. He said the agency had analyzed rainfall that would happen in Jakarta on Tuesday. Light rains would fall in some parts of North Jakarta, West Jakarta, South Jakarta and East Jakarta, while mild rains would fall in some parts of West Jakarta, South Jakarta, East Jakarta and North Jakarta. “Based on the results of the rainfall analysis, BMKG predicts that four areas have the potential of being flooded tomorrow (Tuesday). BMKG also has analyzed among the areas that have the low potential of being flooded will be small parts of Kalideres, Cengkareng, Kembangan and Penjaringan,” he said.

New York — Award season kicked off with a tie for Best feature at the annual Gotham Independent Film Awards as Terrence Malick’s highly imaginative “The Tree of Life” shared the night’s high honor with Mike Mills’s flashback comedy, “Beginners.” Presenter Tilda Swinton introduced the nominees, but before opening the envelope, deferred to a prerecorded message on the venue’s large video screens. The unprecedented ruling was then announced by jury member Natalie Portman who explained her peers were faced with the extraordinary dilemma of being “stuck” when it came to selecting a winner, so they “made a bold and independent decision” and “chose to honor both.” Swinton then read off the winner’s names live, and presented the award. “The Tree of Life” starred Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, and also won the Palm d’Or at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. “Beginners” was released last year and stars Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer. LOS ANGELES — Harvard scientists have built a new type of flexible robot that is limber enough to wiggle and worm through tight spaces. It’s the latest prototype in the growing field of soft-bodied robots. Researchers are increasingly drawing inspiration from nature to create machines that are more bendable and versatile than those made of metal. The Harvard team, led by chemist George M. Whitesides, borrowed from squids, starfish and other animals without hard skeletons to fashion a small, four-legged rubber robot that calls to mind the clay animation character Gumby. In recent years, scientists have been tinkering with squishy — sometimes oddlooking — robots designed to squeeze through hard-to-reach cracks after a disaster like an earthquake or navigate rough terrain in the battlefield. “The unique ability for soft robots to deform allows them to go places that traditional rigid-body robots cannot,” Matthew Walter, a roboticist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said in an email. A team from Tufts University earlier this year showed off a 4-inch (10centimeter) caterpillar-shaped robot made of silicone rubber that can curl into a ball and propel itself forward. The Harvard project, funded by the Pentagon’s research arm, was described online Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The new robot, which took two months to construct, is 5 inches (12.7 centimeters) long. Its four legs can be separately controlled by pumping air into the limbs, either manually or via computer. Raikkonen, who had left Formula 1 at the end of the 2009 season after being dropped by Ferrari, had been in talks with the Williams team about a possible return next year, but the deal fell through. That promted speculation of a Renault tie-up, with team principal Eric Boullier confirming in Brazil last weekend that the Finn was on the shortlist of candidates for 2012 - when his outfit will be renamed Lotus. Speaking about his return, Raikkonen said: “I’m delighted to be coming back to Formula 1 after a two-
year break, and I’m grateful to Lotus Renault GP for offering me this opportunity. My time in the World Rally Championship has been a useful stage in my career as a driver, but I can’t deny the fact that my hunger for F1 has recently become overwhelming. “It was an easy choice to return with Lotus Renault GP as I have been impressed by the scope of the team’s ambition. Now I’m looking forward to playing an important role in pushing the team to the very front of the grid.” Team owner Gerard Lopez added: “All year long, we kept saying that our team was at the start of a brand new cycle. Backstage we’ve been working hard to build the foundations of a successful structure and to ensure that
we would soon be able to fight at the highest level. “Kimi’s decision to come back to Formula 1 with us is the first step of several announcements which should turn us into an even more serious contender in the future. Of course, we are all looking forward to working with a world champion. On behalf of our staff, I’d like to welcome Kimi to Enstone, a setting that has always been known for its human approach to Formula 1.” Raikkonen, 32, moved from Formula 1 to the World Rally Championship in 2010, where he spent the last two seasons while also competing in one race of the NASCAR Truck series and one Nationwide event.

Hamilton’s current deal with McLaren runs out at the end of next season, and there has been speculation he could then be in the frame for a switch to Red Bull Racing ever since he held secret talks with its team principal Christian Horner at the Canadian Grand Prix. But even though McLaren has already tied down Jenson Button’s long-term future, it appears that a decision on Hamilton’s plight will now wait until the 2012 campaign is under way. When asked by AUTOSPORT about
the Hamilton contract situation going forward, Whitmarsh said: “We will see. Lewis and ourselves are in a really good place, and he is in a good place. He loves the team, we know him well, so we are not putting any timeframe on it. “We will see what happens in the course of the next year. There is plenty of time.” Hamilton was widely quoted by the British media on Tuesday as saying that he was happy to wait too - so both parties would have a better idea of how much they have recovered from the trials of
this season. “I am in no rush,” he said. “I don’t think there is any real pressure about my commitment to the team so there is no rush to have to do anything. Just focus on the next stage. “Martin [Whitmarsh, McLaren’s team principal] has spoken to me about resigning already. I know it is there. At some stage, when we have time, we will sit down and discuss it. Again, the most important thing is to focus on the season ahead. “I feel positive about it. I feel fortunate to be in the position I am in. I still feel very, very fortunate about the opportunities I have ahead of me and I feel fortunate I have still got a year left on my contract.”
