Doctor not around and Puskesmas closed PUBLIC Health Center (Puskesmas) is not attracting the attention of the people in Bali to get medical assistance. One of the reasons is the lack of equipment and the doctor often is not available. The patient only wants to come to the Puskesmas only for minor disease such as headache. If the sickness is hard then they prefer go the hospital. One of the residents stay near the puskesmas in Nyambu Village, Kediri, Tabanan,
Ni Ketut Wirati said that she prefer to go to the hospital because if she go to the public health center, she will be transferred again to the hospital. Wirati explained that the existence of public health center in the village is very helpful but the people are rarely wants to go there. It only has one officer so the service will be not maximum. Not only the facilities but the service in the puskesmas is also complained. This can be seen in Puskesmas
Pupuan I, on May 23, 2011. Since early in the morning, there were no doctors and there were only nurse. They even had to consult the sickness of the patients through the phone. Because of this, the families were taking the patients to the Tabana Hospital which is very far. The lack of facilities and services in the puskesmas is also stated by one of the member of Tabanan House of Representative,
Made Yasa. He said that the program of Healthy Tabanan which was announced in 2007 is not done yet. “Ideally, there are two doctors and nurse and also complete medical tools,” Yasa said. The Head of Tabanan Health Department, Ketut Sumiarta, said that the department indeed needs more doctor and medical staff. However, he can assure that the service of the puskemas is still good. Dalem Mengening Temple at Renon A Sanctum to Invoke Clear Holy Water [Dalem Mengening Temple at Renon] ONE of the temples in Bali whose piodalan or temple anniversary falling on Banyupinaruh, Sunday Pahing Wuku Sinta—a day after Sarasvati Day, is the Dalem Mangening Temple at Renon, Denpasar. An old well lies in the temple whose water is crystal clear and never dries, even though in the dry season. It is said the well poses the relic of Ida Pedanda Sakti Bahu Rauh or Danghyang Nirartha when he performed his dharma yatra. Other than the well, the temple has the chamber shrine, anglurah shrine, tajuk and piasan pavilion. Then, a Padmasana shrine with Bedawang Nala sits in the east of the well serves as the representative shrine of the deity at Semeru Agung Lumajang, East Java. Meanwhile, in the west of the well lies the shrine used to venerate the Lord Dalem Mangening. In general, it is the shrine where the Hindu devotees invoke holy water for the interest of Pancha Yajna ritual. According to the priest of Dalem Mangening Temple, Nyoman Majawan, the well had existed since the ancient times. Smiling Prince Philip leaves hospital after heart op Agence France Presse
Prince Philip was reunited with his wife Queen Elizabeth II and other family members for a late Christmas on Tuesday when he left hospital four days after having heart surgery. The outspoken 90-year-old smiled and waved from the open window of his Range Rover vehicle as he was driven away from the specialist Papworth hospital near Cambridge, eastern England. Trailed by police protection officers, he was driven to the royal Sandringham estate where the queen, the couple’s children and their grandchildren have spent the Christmas holiday without him. The health scare was the most serious yet for the prince, the longest serving royal consort in British history, and comes as the queen prepares to celebrate her
diamond jubilee year marking 60 years on the throne. “On departure, Prince Philip thanked the staff at Papworth for the excellent care he has received during his stay,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement. “He is very much looking forward to rejoining his family.” A palace spokesman said no decision had been taken on how soon the prince would resume public engagements or whether he would attend church on Sunday. The prince had a coronary stent fitted on Friday night after doctors diagnosed a blocked coronary artery. A stent is a mesh sleeve fitted over a sausage-shaped balloon which is inserted into the artery and then inflated. It remains fixed in position inside the body when the balloon is removed and opens up the artery to remove the blockage.

Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Head of the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) Moh Jumhur Hidayat was slated to pick them up at the airport, Antara learned here Wednesday. Bayanah binti Banhawi,29, from Kemiri sub-district, Tangerang district, Banten province was expected to arrive at the airport at 11.00 am Wednesday after flying Saudi Airlines SV 822 from the King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh on Tuesday (Dec 27). Chairman of the Migrant Workers Protection Task Force in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Maftuh Basyuni, who accompanied Bayanah from Saudi Arabia, would hand over Bayanah to Jumhur to continue her journey home. Meanwhile Jamilah was scheduled to leave Riyadh on Wednesday (Dec.28) and Neneng Sunengsih would also leave Riyadh a week or two weeks later pending the issuance of her “exit permit” involving her employer. According to Jumhur, Bayanah, the passport holder with identification number AA 988735 was sent by the workers supplying company PT Amanah Putera Pertama, Jakarta to Saudi Arabia as a house maid at Abdullah Umar Al Munthairi`s house. Bayanah received forgiveness from her employer for accidentally causing the child`s death and was fined 55,000 reals. The fine was paid by the Indonesian embassy in Riyadh. In the meantime, Jamilah was scheduled to return to Indonesia from Jidda on Wednesday (Dec 28) in the accompany of an official of the Indonesian Consulate General in Jidda. Jamilah was accused of killing her employer, Salim Al Ruqi (80) but Salim`s son, Ali Seha Al Ruqi, forgave her before King Abdullah, and did not ask Jamilah to pay a fine. She was accused of causing the death of her employer`s fourmonth-old child while feeding it with milk. The accusation could not be proven and she was freed without paying a fine.

JAKARTA - State electricity company PT PLN has set itself the target of lowering its power plants` fuel oil consumption in 2012 by 30 percent to 7.49 million kiloliters from the estimate of fuel consumption this year. “The decline in the use of fuel oil in 2012 is in line with the increasing target of fuel mix usage and gas supply,” PLN President Director Nur Pamuji said after attending a meeting at the State Enterprises Ministry here on Tuesday. He said the company had set the target of fuel mix for 2012 at 17.73 percent, down significantly from this year`s 27.4 percent. The tight target of fuel mix would support the effort to achieve the production cost target of
Rp1,166/kWh for 2012, down 13.2 percent from the estimate of realized production cost for this year, he said. He said the target of coal consumption for 2012 had been set at 39.6 million tons, up 34 percent from the 2011 forecast and the target of gas consumption at 356.36 TBTU, up 25 percent from the estimate of gas consumption in 2011. One of PLN`s priority programs in 2012 was to lower production cost by focusing on maximizing the electricity production of non-fuel oil power plants, he said. The company`s sales target for 2012 was 172.17 kWh, with power consumption growth projected at 9.78 percent for 2012, he said. PLN has set the target of total income for 2012 at Rp150 trillion for 2012.

JUKUT KAKUL (Snail Soup) OVERVIEW: The French are not the only ones to have a liking for snails. The Balinese gather snails in the rice ďŹ elds. But you can use the canned variety. Cucumber, zucchini or any other summer squash can be used instead of green papaya. INGREDIENTS: 200 gr unripe green papaya 1 liter chicken stock ½ cup spice paste for seafood 1 stalk lemon grass bruised 2 salam leaves 1 tbsp oil 48 canned snails, washed and drained 1 tsp salt Freshly ground black pepper Fried shallots to garnish PREPARATION: Peel the papaya, cut in half lengthwise and remove the seeds, then cut it lengthwise in 4 or 6 slices. Cut crosswise into slices about 0.5 cm thick. Combine stock, spice paste, lemon grass, salam leaves and oil in a large pot. Bring to boil, and then simmer for 5 minutes. Add papayas and simmer until almost tender. Add the snails and continue cooking until the papaya softens. Season with salt and pepper to taste and garnish with fried shallots. Helpful hint: If you do not care for snails. You can substitute 12 dried black Chinese mushroom. Washed and soaked I warm water for 20minutes. Add them together with the papaya to ensure they will be tender by the time the papaya is cooked.

“Fast Five,” “Hangover II” among most pirated in 2011 Reuters
LOS ANGELES - “Fast Five,” “Hangover II” and “Thor” were among the most-pirated movies of 2011, according to a new list from the blog TorrentFreak. But some of the year’s other biggest grossers at the global box office -- including the latest “Pirates” movie -- are notably absent from the top 10.

“Fast Five,” which grossed $626.1 million worldwide, was downloaded nearly 9.3 million times on BitTorrent, according to TorrentFreak. That’s a far cry from last year’s chart-topper, “Avatar,” which was downloaded more than 16 million times. “The Hangover Part II,” which had a worldwide gross of $581.5 million, was downloaded 8.8 million times. The thirdmost-pirated movie, “Thor” -- which grossed $448.5 million worldwide -- was downloaded 8.3 million times. Next on the list are six films that were not among the year’s top grossers. They include “Source Code” (7.9 million downloads); “I Am Number Four” (7.7 million); and “Sucker Punch” (7.2 million). The No. 7 spot is even more surprising: It’s occupied by “127 Hours,” the James Franco thriller that only made $60.7 worldwide. The film was downloaded 6.9 million times. “Rango,” which grossed $245.2 worldwide, was
downloaded 6.5 million times, earning it the No. 8 spot. “The King’s Speech,” which won the Oscar for Best Picture and grossed $414.2 million worldwide, was downloaded nearly 6.3 million times. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2” -- the biggest movie of the year with a $1.33 billion worldwide gross -- capped off the list with just over 6 million downloads. The total number of downloads among this year’s top 10 was lower than in 2010, which could be attributed to more legal alternatives, and new piracy alternatives to BitTorrent, like Cyberlockers, according to TorrentFreak. The number of active BitTorrent users, however, hasn’t gone down. In compiling the list of most-pirated movies in 2011, TorrentFreak used data from sources including thousands of BitTorrent trackers. All release formats, including camera-bootleg recordings, were counted.

Irish singer Sinead O’Connor has ended her fourth marriage after just 16 days, blaming pressure and disapproval from the family and friends of her new husband Barry Herridge. O’Connor, 46, said on her blog that the marriage went wrong three hours after the Dec 8. ceremony in Las Vegas and that the pair had lived together for only seven days before splitting on Christmas Eve. “Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed (ruined) by the behavior of certain people in my husband’s life. And also by a bit of a wild ride I took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me wedding night as I don’t drink,” the controversial singer wrote. O’Connor, who found fame in the late 1980s with her shaved head and original voice on songs like “Nothing Compares 2 U”, said that Herridge was “enormously wounded and very badly affected by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage. It became apparent to me that if he were to stay with me he would be losing too much to bear.” She added that she had decided to end the marriage, and said the couple had made a mistake “rushing into getting married” without being prepared for the consequences on his life. “The marriage was 16 days. We lived together for 7 days only. Until Xmas eve. And we haven’t been awful to each other,” she wrote. O’Connor has been married three times previously. 1st US museum dedicated to Greek culture opens Associated Press Writer
CHICAGO — Dolls a Greek woman made during World War II. Ice cream bowls and wooden spoons from a 1940s Greek candy store. Thousands of record albums filled with Greek music. These items and many other beloved objects and family heirlooms have found their way from around the country to the National Hellenic Museum in Chicago, which has a new place to store and exhibit them all, in a four-story 40,000-squarefoot environmentally friendly building of limestone and glass that opened in early December. The $20 million project in the city’s Greektown neighborhood, which includes temporary and permanent exhibition space, classrooms, oral history archives, a library and roof patio overlooking downtown, replaces the museum’s
previous space a few blocks away on one floor of a four-story building. “This museum became by default the repository for artifacts from the Greek American experience because there was no other place people felt secure donating their items,” said Stephanie Vlahakis, the museum’s executive director. Outside the museum, the street bustles with diners at Greek restaurants like The Parthenon, Athena or Santorini. A group of men speak Greek during an animated game of backgammon at the Panhellenic Pastry Shop with mounds of powdered sugar almond cookies and baklava piled in
the glass cases behind the counter. “We are telling the story of Greek America,” Vlahakis said. “We just start from the beginning, from ancient times and bring it to the modern times.” The museum is a work in progress, with a skeleton version of the permanent exhibit on the second floor. Curators have scribbled design concepts in colored marker on the walls, like “absolutely want mosaic work” or “look into etching on glass?” The hope is to raise enough money to fill the displays out in a year. But there is still plenty to see: shelves filled with items from a Greek family in New York, a wall of black and white pictures that chronicles the story of Greek immigrants in America and an area to learn the Greek alphabet. Visitors can watch a short introductory video narrated by, who else, George Stephanopoulos.

Scientists test sick Alaska seals for radiation Reuters
SEATTLE - Scientists in Alaska are investigating whether local seals are being sickened by radiation from Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear plant. Scores of ring seals have washed up on Alaska’s Arctic coastline since July, suffering or killed by a mysterious disease marked by bleeding lesions on the hind flippers, irritated skin around the nose and eyes and patchy hair loss on the animals’ fur coats. Biologists at first thought the seals were suffering from a virus, but they have so far been unable to identify one, and tests are now underway to find out if radiation is a factor. “We recently received samples of seal tissue from diseased animals captured near St. Lawrence Island with a request to examine the material for radioactivity,” said John Kelley, Professor Emeritus
at the Institute of Marine Science at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. “There is concern expressed by some members of the local communities that there may be some relationship to the Fukushima nuclear reactor’s damage,” he said. The results of the tests would not be available for “several weeks,” Kelley said. Water tests have not picked up any evidence of elevated radiation in U.S. Pacific waters since the March earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which caused multiple fuel meltdowns at the Fukushima plant and forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate the surrounding area. Scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have been seeking the cause of the diseased seals for weeks, but have so far found no answers.

Around 1,000 Dutch women were given potentially risky breast implants made by a French company and should see their doctors, a health watchdog said Tuesday. Sold under the brand name “M-Implants” the product was made by Poly Implant Prothese (PIP), Dutch health authority inspectorate spokeswoman Diane Bouhuijs said. “We estimate that around 1,000 women in the Netherlands received these implants,” she told AFP, referring to PIP’s products, which were found to contain industrial rather than medical quality silicone.
“Although there is no reason to panic, we again advise women with these breast implants to consult their doctors,” Bouhuijs added. France’s health ministry on Friday advised 30,000 women with breast implants made by the now-bankrupt PIP to have them removed, saying that while there was no proven cancer risk, they could rupture. Bouhuijs said the Dutch health authorities’ inspectorate (IGZ) had already last year banned the use of PIP’s implants and in September 2010 issued an advisory for women to consult physicians or local clinics for an examination. “The reason for this
is because the implants stand a greater chance of rupturing or leaking and that it is not possible to say whether it will have a detrimental effect on the human body over the longer term,” the IGZ said on its website. PIP was shut down and its products banned in April last year after it was revealed to have been using nonauthorised silicone gel that caused abnormally high implant rupture rates. On Friday, Interpol issued a “red notice” for the arrest of Frenchman Jean-Claude Mas, the company’s founder, after Costa Rica said they wanted him for offences concerning “life and health.”

Kubica’s absence a bigger blow to Renault in 2011 Renault team boss Eric Boullier believes the absence of Robert Kubica was a bigger factor in the squad’s poor 2011 season than the unsuccessful forward-facing exhaust layout. After a promising start to the year, with two podiums in the opening two grands prix, Renault’s season tailed off dramatically and by the end of 2011 it was often struggling to even get into the points, leaving its technical chiefs to admit that the radical exhaust arrangement had hampered the car. But Boullier says the loss of erstwhile lead driver Kubica’s services after the Pole was seriously injured in a pre-season rally crash was the main cause of Renault’s slump. MotoGP keen to keep Jerez on calendar through 2016 MotoGP is keen to keep its Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez until at least 2016 after completing a deal to secure the 2012 race at the venue. Financial issues at the Jerez circuit had cast doubt over whether it would retain its place on next year’s calendar, but motorcycling’s governing body released an updated schedule just before Christmas which confirmed that the event would go ahead.
