LOS ANGELES - Taylor Swift ruled at the top of the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart on Monday as her latest release “Reputation” easily beat off new entries from country music stars Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks. “Reputation,” which entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 1 last week with 1.2 million album units, sold another 256,000 units across album and song sales and streaming, according to figures from Nielsen Music. It is the year’s biggest album debut. McGraw’s “Rest of Our Life” debuted at No. 2 this week with

104,000 album units. Brooks’ “Anthology: The First Five Years” sold 53,000 album units and debuted at No. 4, just below British singer Sam Smith’s “The Thrill of it All,” which dropped one spot to No. 3 this week. Tourists, authorities feel the heat as Bali volcano keeps airport closed

KARANGASEM - Indonesia on Tuesday extended the closure of the airport on Bali as ash from a volcano swept the island, stranding thousands of tourists as authorities tried to persuade villagers to leave their homes near the erupting mountain. “Aircraft flight channels are covered with volcanic ash,” the transport ministry said in a statement, citing aviation navigation authorities. Bali’s airport, about 60 km (37 miles) from the Mount Agung volcano, will be closed until 7 a.m. on Wednesday (2300 GMT on Tuesday), it said. Frustration at the country’s second-busiest airport were starting to boil over, with an estimated 2,000 people attempting to get refunds and reschedule tickets. “There are thousands of people stranded here at the airport,” said Nitin Sheth, a tourist from India. “They have to go to some other airport and they are trying to do that, but the government or authorities here are not helping.” Others were more relaxed. “No, there’s not a lot of information ...

While the population in the area has been estimated at anywhere between 63,000 and 140,000, just over 29,000 people were registered at emergency centres, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman for the Disaster Mitigation Agency. “Not all people in the danger zone are prepared to take refuge,” he said. “There are still a lot of residents staying in their homes.” Indonesia’s Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Centre has warned that an eruption of a size similar to that seen in 1963 could send rocks bigger than a fist flying a distance of up to 8 km (5 miles), and volcanic gas a distance of 10 km (6 miles) within three minutes.

Monitoring has shown the northeastern part of Agung’s peak had swollen in recent weeks “indicating there is fairly strong pressure toward the surface”, the centre said. MANGUPURA - After Ngurah Rai Airport was declared to be closed at 07:15 on Monday (Nov. 27), outgoing passengers were seen to be queuing at airline counters trying to make new flight arrangements. As of Monday at 14:00 there had been some eight buses carrying 176 passengers to Mengwi bus terminal, 3 cars carrying seven passengers to Padagbai and another 3 buses carrying 111 passengers headed for Juanda Airport in Surabaya, East Java.

Head of Communications and Legal Section of Ngurah Rai International Airport, Ari Ahsanurrohim, said that the aiport provided free shuttle service to Mengwi and Padangbai. “ The other transportation to different destinations was borne by the passengers themselves. Some passengers requested transport service to Surabaya based on the unexpected conditions”, said Ashsanurrohim. Following coordination with the local immigration office, international passengers who have gone through immigration will be given one-week exit passes. Subsequently, a onemonth extension can be arranged at the Immigration Office. “For international passengers who have not passed through immigration, they can get a one-month visa extension directly form the immigration office” he added. Some airline passengers chose to stay in hotels and others have chosen to wait at the ariport. Chairman of the Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Bali, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati, said that all PHRI members have committed to providing a free nights stay to guests who were unable to depart on Monday. Many tourist groups cancel their trip to Denpasar DENPASAR - Mount Agung’S magmatic eruption has started to affect tourism. For example, a number of tour groups scheduled to visit Denpasar have cancelled, although there are still many individual travellers. Head of Denpasar Tourism Office, Maria Antonia Dezire Mulyani, when met at the Mayor’s Office on Monday (Nov. 27) said that the eruption of Mount Agung has had a major impact on tourism in Denpasar especially since the airport was shut down. “ This will surely have an impact” , she said.

“We continuously collect data about tourist visits to Denpasar and have already seen a decrease in the number of people visiting Denpasar. However, we have been discussing mitigation strategies with the Bali Tourism Board and Minister of Tourism Arif Yahya will be visiting the Bali Tourism Board’s office in Denpasar. The Municipality of Denpasar, said Mulyani have already taken steps to deal with the negative impact on tourism and are currently evaluating what the next steps should be. Some

large tourist groups cancelled their visits, but visitors wanting to fly out of Ngurah Rai airport have also been delayed. “ We continue to evaluate conditions related to the eruption of Mount Agung”, she said. Tourist are now being directed to nearby airports in Banywangi and Surabaya so that people wanting to come to Denpasar can still do so. “ We are trying to get the information about other airports options to tourists”, she explained. Tourism affected by Mount Agung smoke NEGARA - Mount Agung’s eruptions over the past few days has started to have an impact on tourism in Bali. Even places like Jembrana that are well within the safe zone are seeing decreases in the number of tourist visits. Hotel occupancy rates have suddenly declined as people cancel their trips. Jimbarwana Hotel in Negara had several guests suddenly

cancel their bookings. Operations Manager of Jimbarwana Hotel, Kade Agus Diarta, said on Monday (Nov. 27): “We are being directly affected by the eruptions – yesterday (Sunday), we had cancellations”, he explained. The hotel was fully booked for Tuesday (Nov. 28) and Wednesday (Nov. 29) as a group of over 70 people from the

Ministry of Health in Jakarta were scheduled to be in Bali. Their trip however was suddenly cancelled after smoke started coming out of Mount Agung’s crater. The number of foreign visitors have also dropped in the past month. And not with Ngurah Rai airport closed, Diarta said he expects that this will have a significant impact. (olo)

Hawaii to resume Cold War-era nuclear siren tests amid North Korea threat

HAWAII - Hawaii this week will resume monthly statewide testing of its Cold War-era nuclear attack warning sirens for the first time in about 30 years, in preparation for a potential missile launch from North Korea, emergency management officials said on Monday.

Wailing air-raid sirens will be sounded for about 60 seconds from more than 400 locations across the central Pacific islands starting at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, in a test that will be repeated on the first business day of each month thereafter, state officials said. Monthly tests of the nuclear attack siren are being reintroduced in Hawaii in conjunction with public service announcements urging residents of the islands to “get inside, stay inside and stay tuned” if they should hear the warning. “Emergency preparedness is knowing what to expect and what to do for all hazards,” Hawaii Emergency Management Agency chief Vern Miyagi said in one video message posted online. He did not mention North Korea specifically. But the nuclear attack sirens, discontinued since the 1980s when the Cold War drew to a close, are being reactivated in light of recent test launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles from North Korea deemed capable of reaching the state, agency spokeswoman Arlina Agbayani told Reuters. A single 150-kiloton weapon detonated over Pearl Harbor on the main island of Oahu would be expected to kill 18,000 people outright and leave 50,000 to 120,000 others injured across a blast zone several miles wide, agency spokesman Richard Rapoza said, citing projections based on assessments of North Korea’s

nuclear weapons technology. While casualties on that scale would be unprecedented on U.S. soil, a fact sheet issued by the agency stressed that 90 percent of Hawaii’s 1.4 million-plus residents would survive “the direct effects of such an explosion.” Oahu, home to a heavy concentration of the U.S. military command structure, as well as the state capital, Honolulu, and about two-thirds of the state’s population, is seen as an especially likely target for potential North Korean nuclear aggression against the United States. In the event of an actual nuclear missile launch at Hawaii from North Korea, the U.S. Pacific Command would alert state emergency officials to sound the attack sirens, giving island residents just 12 to 15 minutes of warning before impact, according to the state’s fact sheet. In that case, residents are advised to take cover “in a building or other substantial structure.” Although no designated nuclear shelters exist, staying indoors offers the best chance of limiting exposure to radioactive fallout. The siren tests are being added to existing monthly tests of Hawaii’s steady-tone siren warnings for hurricanes, tsunamis and other natural disasters. Those alerts also undergo monthly tests on radio, TV and cellphone networks. When emergency management officials initiated the new warning campaign, “there were concerns we would scare the public,” Miyagi said in a recent presentation. “What we are putting out is information based on the best science that we have on what would happen if that weapon hit Honolulu or the assumed targets.” (rtr)

Rejoice: Sonos Speakers are finally voice-controllable IF you’re among the millions who own Sonos speakers, then you don’t need a paragraph explaining how great they are (the speakers, not the owners). A Sonos is an internet-connected speaker. It can deliver music from 50 music sources (Spotify, Pandora, Amazon, Apple, Google, etc.)— and you control it from an app on your phone or computer. These speakers sound amazing for their size and cost. They’re entirely wireless, and they’re easy to name and group—Kitchen, Living Room, etc. In other words, they let you create a whole-home audio system for a fraction of what a professional installation would cost. Well, fine—until the Amazon Echo came out. The Echo sounds flat and tinny compared to a Sonos speaker, but it overtook Sonos in sales last year (5 million sold vs. 4 million) for one key reason: The Echo lets you ask for music by voice. “Alexa: Play ‘The White Album.’” “Alexa, play some cooking music.” “Alexa—play ‘Mr. Blue Sky.’” This is what’s known as a killer app, people. It feels like “Star Trek,” like “The Jetsons,” like magic. You come home, you throw your keys in the bowl, you say, “Play some classical music,” and there it is. But over on Planet Sonos, people still had to haul out their phones to start music, stop music, change tracks, or change the volume. I realize how first-worldly that sounds, but trust me: Sonos owners looked with longing over the fence at their Echo-owning neighbors.

People came up with all kinds of hacks to connect an Alexa to a Sonos (buying a Dot and using a wire, for example)—but in general, this was a missed opportunity the size of Texas. The end of the era of suffering

Well, it took Sonos some time, but I’m happy—really happy—to report that it has finally come to its senses. The Sonos One ($200) speaker looks, sounds, and costs the same as its predecessor, the Sonos Play:1. (Who comes up with these confusing names—someone from Microsoft?) There are two tiny differences: The new speaker doesn’t have a mounting bracket on the back, and its top buttons are touch-sensitive spots instead of physical switches. And there’s one huge difference: the new speaker is an Amazon Echo. It has Alexa built in. TABANAN — After being hospitalized for 15 days, 70 year old I Nengah Ririg a Mount Agung evacuees from Telungbuana hamlet, Sebudi, Bebandem, Karangasem, died from age related ilness complications at Tabanan Hospital on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 25). Because of Mount Agung’s most recent volcanic activity, Nengah Ririg’s body will be buried in Kembang Merta hamlet, Candikuning, Baturiti. Headman of Candikuning, I Made Mudita, confirmed that Ririg’s body is still being entrusted to Tabana hospital. Ririg’s family had planned to bring their relatives body to Telungbuana on Satruday night, however because of the ashfall from Mount Agung, they cancelled this plan. Chief of Kembang Merta customary village suggested that Nengah Ririg’s body instead be buried in Kembang Merta, Candikuning. “ The burial ceremony will be held on Tuesday (NOV 28)”, explained Mudita. This decision was made in view of the unfavourable conditions in the evacuee’s home village and to ease the burden of the family. Local residents and customary village authorities have agreed with this decision. “We are obliged to help, especially as the family is grieving”, he said. The Regent of Karangasem, I Gusti Ayu Mas Sumantri is said to be planning to attend the burial

service personally. “Later we will discuss plans for further tritual processes in Karangsem once conditions in the area are conducive to such activities”, added Mudita. Meanwhile, the ash that has started to rain down as a result of Mount Agung erupting has not been accompanied by an increase in the number of people evacuating to Tabanan’s Kembang Merta evacuation post in Baturiti. Most of the evacuees who are still in Tabanan are staying with relatives. “ Most of the evacuees who are still here are from villages wihin the disaster-prone areas (KBR). Although most returned hoem for the holidays, they returned to the evacuation posts in Baturiti”, explained Mudita. Meanwhile, Section Head of Disbursement and Logistics for the Tabanan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), I Putu Trisna Widiatmika, with permission from Head of BPBD Tabanan, I Gusti Ngurah Sucita, confirmed that there have been no additional evacuees in Tabanan since the latest phreatic eruptions and ash-fall from Mount Agung. Revenue Service awaits The Tanjung Benoa Beach Resort in good faith

MANGUPURA — Apparently, The Tanjung Benoa Beach Resort has not paid their obligatory Hotel and Restaurant Tax (PHR) collected from the public since 2001. A letter of ‘forced effort’ was delivered to the resort by the Regional Revenue Service (Bapenda) of Badung on Thursday (Nov. 23) asking that this tax be paid receivable within 2 x 24 hours.

Head of Bapenda Badung, Made Sutama, when contacted on Sunday (Nov. 26) said that his agency is still waiting for a response from the that has been owner of The Tanjung Benoa Beach Resort that has been renamed to Ramada Resort Benoa. The resort located on Jalan Pratama, Tanjung Benoa, South Kuta, is in arrears of Hotel and Restaurant Tax payments worth IDR 14,085,503,822.33. “The management has been given 2x 24 hours to settle their payment, but they have asked to have a meeting with us on Wednesday. We’ll see on Wednesday whether they wants to pay or not”, he said. Made Sutama explained that the letter of ‘forced effort’ was preceded by several letters of reprimand delivered by the Revenue Service. If the resort belonging to PT Usaha Pariwisata Sukses does not heed the reprimands, the Revenue Services will confiscate the business. “If there is no follow-up, well…we will be forced to resort to confiscation. We will also block all the companies bank accounts”, said Sutama, adding that the resort will own up to their unpaid taxes from 2001 to May 2017. Separately, Chairman of Commission III of the Badung House of Representatives, Putu Alit Yandinata, asked the executive branch of the assembly to thoroughly investigate taxpayers, including The Tanjung Benoa Beach Resort which has not paid their taxes since 2001 that are valued at approximately IDR 14 billion. “By not depositing the public money that has been entrusted to the management of the resort, they are in fact committing embezzlement. Taxes do not belong to busineess owners and should not be considered as income”, said Yandinata. This PDI-P politician from Dauh Yeh Cani village, Abiansemal, also asked the executive branch of the assembly to thoroughly investigate the management that has committed tax delinquency. Hotel and restaurant taxes belongs to the public and are entrusted to entrepreneurs who must pay tax to the government. There is no reason for business owner to avoide payign their taxes for years on end, he explained. Yandinata further explained that if the letter of ‘forced effort’ is ignored, Commision III of the Badung House of Representatives will encourage the government to take firm legal action against this company. “Given that this company has not paid their taxes for so long, we suspect deliberate attempted embezzlement. If the evasion of tax paying continues, we then move to forcible collection and the closing of said companies ”, he emphasised. The regent asserted that decisive action in being taken with regards to tax payments. The government of Badung is now targeting regionally generated revenue (PAD) to increase the success of development in Badung. The regent therefor plans to impose a Regional Taxpayer Registration Number (NPWPD) on all types of tourism sector businesses headquartered in Jakarta. “For instance, we have imposed a NPWPD on a hotel that has its main office in Jakarta, but makes transaction in Badung. This is to increase our regionally generated revenue”, he said. Meanwhile, Corporate Secretary of the hotel, I Gusti Ayu Susilawati, representing the management of The Tanjung Benoa Beach Resort said that they would pay their tax arrears. However, the management of the resort has requested concession because all transactions are deposited to the central management. “We will bring this to the attention of the management and do our best to pay off the debt”, she said. The payment of hotel and restaurant receivables had apparently been discussed by the resort internally after their land lease was extended for another 10 years. “We had discussed the matter of our taxes and we will encourage our head office to make the payments”, she concluded. 10,000 heads of livestock still not evacuated since latest eruption

AMLAPURA - The Livestock and Animal Health Taskforce (PKH) is facing new challenges in trying to rescue people’s livestock from Mount Agung’s disaster-prone areas. Before the alert level was raised for the area, livestock could simply be picked up and brought to safety. However, now the threat of volcanic ash in theses areas means they have to think twice about how to conduct the rescue mission. Head of the PKH Taskforce for the Ministry of Agriculture, Nata Kusuma, when met at the Tanah Ampo Command Post, in Manggis on Monday night (Nov. 27) said that the initial target is to evacuate 12,000 livestock. Previously – between september and November, some 1,667 livestock were evacuated (1,535 coes, 116 goats and 16 pigs). The cattle have been brought to shelters in Buleleng, Klungkung, Karangasem and Gianyar. Following the stream of evacuees after the eruption on November 26-27, there were an additional 386 heads of livestock that were evacuated ) 341 cows, 3 pigs and 38 goats). Currently, there are still some 10, 333 cattle, goat and pigs that need to be evacuated. However because of the ash fall in the disaster-prone areas the rescue operation has been stalled. The people who own these livestock have not dared to approach the area that has become very dangerous, especially since the lava induced flooding. Without food and water, these animals can only survive for about three days.

“If they are not evacuated immediately, they will run out of food and water”, explained Nata Kusuma. Besides, finding fodder in the area near where the animals are is no longer possible as the grass and trees are covered in volcanic ash. If the animals perish, their carcasses will become a source of disease” added Kusuma. IN order to overcome this challenge, Nata Kusuma said that the PKH Task-force needs to form a Quick Response Team (TGC) composed of related agencies such as the Health Office, Public Works and Housing and the Transportation Agency. However, given the hazardous situation on the ground, the TGC will only be able to work once the mountain has stopped erupting. Nobody knows how long that will take. If livestock do perish, the TGc will have to move quickly to dispose of the carcasses to prevent the speead of disease. Jehem, famous for its wooden shrine crafting was then made into a tourism village featuring a platform on the Melangit River in 2015. “The in 2016, Tembuku village was developed for tourism centered around Cepung River”, said Purnama. residents, including income. The subdistrict of Tembuku is now targeting the other three villages in the area for tourism development. Peninjoan, Bangbang and Yangapi each have uniwue features that will be highlighted. Peninjoan village is home to the beautiful Dukuh Hill and agri-tourism at Mahapuraja and a place for bathing is being created in Blutbut. And this can only happen if we live in peace, and peace is constructed in a chorus of differences.” Aye Lwin, a prominent Muslim leader who was at the meeting, told Reuters he had asked the pope to appeal to Myanmar’s political leaders “to rescue the religion that we cherish, which could be hijacked by a hidden agenda”. Japan detects radio signals pointing to possible N.Korea missile test

TOKYO - Japan has detected radio signals suggesting North Korea may be preparing another ballistic missile launch, although such signals are not unusual and satellite images did not show fresh activity, a Japanese government source said on Tuesday. After firing missiles at a pace of about two or three a month since April, North Korean missile launches paused in September, after it fired a rocket that passed over Japan’s northern Hokkaido island. “This is not enough to determine (if a launch is likely soon),” the source told Reuters. Japan’s Kyodo news agency reported late on Monday that the Japanese government was on alert after catching such radio signals, suggesting a launch could come in a few days. The report also said the signals might be related to winter military training by the North Korean military. North Korea is pursuing its nuclear weapons and missile programmes in defiance of U.N. Security Council sanctions and has made no secret of

its plans to develop a missile capable of hitting the U.S. mainland. It has fired two missiles over Japan. South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, citing a South Korean government source, also reported that intelligence officials of the United States, South Korea and Japan had recently detected signs of a possible missile launch and have been on higher alert. BUSINESS Egypt economy likely to remain unshaken by Sinai attack

CAIRO - The mosque attack in Egypt’s Sinai may only strengthen the view that the country needs continued IMF support as agreed a year ago and the economy is likely to quickly shake off any negative repercussions, economists say. Gunmen carrying the flag of Islamic State killed more than 300 worshippers in the attack on the mosque, the worst such attack by militants in Egypt’s modern history. Tourists and investors seem unlikely to be much deterred by the attack, which took place in an isolated spot far away from Egypt’s main tourist resorts and economic centres. “It won’t have an impact,” said Reham Eldesoki, a senior economist at regional investment bank Arqaam Capital. “It’s so far away from South Sinai. There have already been other terrorist attacks in northern Sinai and they haven’t impacted European tourism or any other sort of tourism.” The tourist industry is gradually recovering from the turmoil of a popular uprising in 2011 and the 2015 downing of a Russian airplane over Sinai that killed all 224 passengers and crew on board and devastated the industry. An official at one of Egypt’s larger tourist companies, who asked not to be named, said it was too early to judge the impact of last week’s attack. “We haven’t felt it in our reservations. After some attacks, we have had cancellations and reduced bookings. But until now we haven’t felt anything this time because it was the weekend,” he said. “Until now it has been smooth, without problems.” A spokesman for Thomas Cook said that there had been no noticeable

impact from the attack on demand for holidays in Egypt, and that sales to Egypt on Monday were trending ahead of last year’s sales. The state statistics agency CAPMAS said 826,000 tourists arrived in October, the highest number in two years but still well below the 1.49 million who visited Egypt in October 2010. Economists said shortterm money market investors were similarly unlikely to be put off by the Sinai attack. Egypt has put a mechanism in place that guarantees foreign exchange availability for foreign buyers of Egyptian pound treasury bills at the time of redemption. Foreign exchange and economic risk is at their lowest in years, Eldesoki said. Airlines scramble to minimise losses as Bali volcano costs grow

SINGAPORE - As a shutdown of Bali’s airport is extended due to volcanic ash, airlines bracing for millions of dollars of lost revenue per day are scrambling to minimise damage by offering travel to other destinations and alternative transport off the island. The airport on the Indonesian tourist island was closed for a second day on Tuesday because of ash from the eruption of the Mount Agung volcano, which has already disrupted several hundred flights and tens of thousands of passengers. With no immediate sign of the eruption ending any time soon, industry experts say airlines may consider making longer-term flight frequency adjustments to Bali as forward bookings collapse and risks of ash damaging aircraft linger. AirAsia will look to redeploy capacity elsewhere in its network, the airline group’s chief executive Tony Fernandes tweeted on Tuesday, without providing details of any adjustment. Most airlines are for now offering various options to minimise the short-term impact, preparing customers to expect scheduled disruptions until at least Dec. 4. “If this situation is prolonged for 2 to 3 months, it is possible that the airlines could reduce their Bali flights in the upcoming northern summer schedule that starts from end-March,” said Corrine Png, chief executive of transport research firm Crucial Perspective, although she said they would be wary of losing airport slots when demand eventually returned. Australia’s Jetstar is allowing passengers to re-route to other holiday destinations like Phuket in Thailand, while Singapore Airlines Ltd budget offshoot Scoot said it would transport stranded passengers by bus and ferry from Bali to the city of Surabaya on the neighbouring island of Java for flights back to

Singapore. Png said each day that the Bali airport was closed meant about $5 million in combined lost flight revenue for the 42 airlines that fly there. “This comes at a bad time for the airlines as we are in peak travel season right now and the Bali route is highly lucrative,” she said. “Forward bookings to Bali will collapse as a result and the airlines will have to re-deploy their excess capacity to alternative destinations which are less profitable and may even have to discount more to fill up their planes.” Alicia Seah, an official at Singapore-based travel agency Dynasty Travel, said bookings and inquiries for travel to Bali had dropped by half in the past two months following warnings that the volcano could erupt. “Those departing this week and early December are asking for diversion to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia and we are now assisting them to do that. But those departing mid- to late-December are adopting a wait-and-see attitude,” Seah said. But on those occasions, the volcano spewing ash was on a neighbouring island rather than Bali itself, making this a more serious threat to tourism. Airlines avoid flying with volcanic ash in the air because it can cause significant damage to aircraft engines, clogging fuel and cooling systems, hampering pilot visibility and even causing engine failure. In 1982, a British Airways 747 suffered severe damage and had all four engines flame out after flying through ash from Mount Galunggung in Indonesia.

Flight cancellations cost airlines in terms of refunds to passengers and paying fixed costs of aircraft and crew that are not flying, as well as for “relief” flights to return stranded travellers home. Airline insurance usually covers physical damage to aircraft from ash but not the lost revenue, Png said. In 2010, when a volcanic eruption in Iceland brought flights to, from and within much of Europe to a halt, the International Air Transport Association estimated airlines lost $1.7 billion in lost revenue in the first six days.

The ash cloud from the Bali volcano, however, is smaller and in an area far less frequented by major airline routes and it has for now been contained mostly to the airspace around Bali and neighbouring Lombok island, both of which are primarily tourist destinations rather than key business travel points. The wind direction could change, pushing ash away from the airport. An Indonesian disaster mitigation official said ash rose an estimated 20 km in 1963, during Agung’s last major series of deadly eruptions that lasted about a year.(rtr)

Director of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Maria Kristi Endah Murni noted during a press conference here on Monday that the increase in volcanic activity of Mount Agung has prompted the officials to temporary close the Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali.

“The assumption is that each flight carries some 200 passengers,” Murni remarked. Moreover, Mount Agung`s eruption has affected 51 flights, or some 2,900 passengers, at the Lombok International Airport. The Lombok International Airport, which was also closed temporarily due to the rise in activity of Mount Agung, has been reopened at 6 a.m. local time on Monday. The government will continue to coordinate and monitor the situation for the next 24

hours, she remarked. On the same occasion, Secretary General of the Ministry of Transportation Sugiharjo noted that the airports will be kept open or shut down based on the direction of the wind carrying volcanic ash from Mount Agung. The government has readied some 100 shuttle buses in Bali and West Nusa Tenggara to provide alternative means of transportation to the passengers affected by Mount Agung`s eruption.

Irish deputy PM under pressure to quit and avoid election

DUBLIN - Irish Deputy Prime Minister Frances Fitzgerald was under intense pressure from her own party to resign on Tuesday to avoid a snap election that is hours away from being called, a crisis that is casting a shadow over next month’s Brexit summit.

Opposition party Fianna Fail, which has been propping up the Fine Gael minority government, said the deputy prime minister’s refusal to quit would force the country to the polls in December, a position that hardened on Monday. Ireland will play a major role in the Brexit summit, telling European Union leaders whether it believes sufficient progress has been made on the future of the border between EU-member Ireland and the British province of Northern Ireland. BEIJING - In Xinjiancun, a ramshackle village of migrant workers on the far southern fringe of Beijing, demolition machinery tears into buildings as residents drag out the last of their belongings under the gaze of police and security staff. A citywide fire safety blitz prompted by a deadly blaze this month is forcing thousands of migrant workers out of their homes and businesses, igniting unusually direct criticism of city government measures seen by some people as unfairly targeting the vulnerable underclass. Beijing’s municipal government launched the 40-day “special operation” targeting fire code and building safety violations after a Nov. 18 apartment fire in Xinjiancun killed 19, almost all of them migrants. The Beijing government said it had acted on more than 25,000 violations in the operation’s first week, which it described as purely “for the lives and safety of the people”. Judge orders U.S. to delay deporting Indonesians in immigration fight

BOSTON - A federal judge on Monday ordered U.S. immigration officials to delay any efforts to deport 51 Indonesians living illegally in New Hampshire so the group can have time to argue that changing conditions in that country would make it dangerous to return. The order affects a group of Indonesian Christians who fled violence in that country two decades ago and had been living openly for years in New England under an informal deal. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in August began ordering them to prepare to leave the country within two months.

Most members of the group covered by the 2010 deal with ICE entered the United States legally but overstayed their visas and failed to seek asylum on time. Beginning in August, members of the group who showed up for ICE check-ins were told to prepare to leave the country, in keeping with U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign promise to crack down on illegal immigration. Members of the group have said in interviews with Reuters that they fear they would face persecution or violence for their Christian faith and Chinese ethnicity if they were returned to the world’s largest majorityMuslim country.

Federal law gives authority over immigration matters to the executive branch, not the courts. Chief U.S. District Judge Patti Saris in Boston found she had authority to ensure the Indonesians have a chance to argue that conditions in their home country had deteriorated significantly enough to reopen their cases for trying to stay in the United State. She worried that without the order, ICE officials could deport some of the Indonesians covered by the suit, at which time they would lose the opportunity to have their cases reopened. “The government shall inform the court whether petitioners, who are not detained, will have access to emergency procedures if they must file their original motions to reopen,” Saris wrote. “We are reviewing the decision and will comply with the court order,” ICE spokesman Shawn Neudauer said in an email. ICE officials said in federal court filings that they would appeal an earlier decision by Saris telling the agency to hold off deporting any of the Indonesians covered by the agreement. The Indonesians are part of an ethnic community of about 2,000 people clustered around the city of Dover, New Hampshire. Their cause has drawn the support of the state’s all-Democratic congressional delegation, including U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Republican Governor Chris Sununu. (rtr)

Russia toppled from Sochi 2014 medals first place but final count unknown

BERLIN - Russia have been knocked off the medals top spot for the 2014 Sochi winter Olympics after five more athletes received lifetime Games bans on Monday over doping violations at those Olympics, but the final medal count could be months or even years away. This month a total of 19 Russians have been banned from the Games for life as a result of an International Olympic Committee (IOC) investigation into allegations of widespread doping among Russian competitors and sample tampering by laboratory and security officials at the Sochi Games. Gold medal-winning bobsledders Dmitrii Trunenkov and Aleksei Negodailo, members of the winning four-man team, as well as biathlon relay silver medallists Yana Romanova and Olga Vilukhina, who also won silver in the 7.5 km event, were the latest to be sanctioned by the IOC on Monday. Russia, a winter sports powerhouse, were top of the medals table at the end of the Games on home soil in 2014 but the latest IOC decision now brings their number of gold medals at events down to eight. Those already banned include double gold medallist bobsledder Alexander Zubkov, Olympic skeleton champion Alexander Tretyakov as well as six cross-country skiers. While the IOC has ordered the return of the medals, Russian sports officials have pledged to appeal the bans and take their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

is most busy at lunchtime during the week, and at sunset most days, with office workers, Denpasar youths and families. Sports and fitness classes occur regularly, and there are a number of oversized chess boards to play on. Puputan Park is located very centrally in Denpasar, and within a short walk visitors will find a number of other tourist and cultural attractions worth exploring. These include the Bandung Market (Bali’s largest produce market), Jagatnata Temple, offering unlimited access even to foreign visitors, and the Bali Museum, where the full history of the Balinese can be better explored.
