Such very severe abrasion happens on the coastal area of Les Village in Tejakula Subdistrict. The pounding of sea waves have eroded the land owned by local
residents. Even, the productive land utilized for traditional salt farming is also eroded by sea waves. As a result, the traditional salt farming ultimately goes bank-
rupt because the land has been eroded. Though the abrasion on the east coast of Buleleng is severe enough to discontinue the traditional salt farming, local government has not made any efforts to prevent the abrasion from getting worse. Government argues there is no sufficient budget to address the shoreline experiencing the abrasion. A resident of Les Village, Sunday (Nov 27), said that many local residents were forced to
sell their land to investors as they worried if their land would run out due to such abrasion. Having been sold, the investors then built concrete levee to prevent the abrasion. Meanwhile, the landowners during this time were unable to safeguard their land by concrete levee due to financial reason and only expected the help of government. “Hopefully, in 2012 our coastal areas could be repaired to avoid abrasion,” hoped the resident. However, the inferior quality of progeny, application of technology, supply, feed and selling price of cattle were the factors triggering the failure of cow breeding business. “The success of cow breeding business has something to do with the quality of breeder human resources such as their capability in applying technology, creativity and agribusiness innovation as well as the ability to obtain superior progeny,� said Chairman of the Center for Bali Cow Studies, Udayana University, Prof. Nyoman Suparta, Sunday (Nov 27) in Denpasar. He further said the powerlessness of breeder human resources resulted in low incentives for breeders. “Similarly, the policy of cattle imports has bad impact on the low price of domestic cattle. Even, the policy of Bali Government to
ban the inter-island (female) cow trade has an impact on the increasing population of cows, but the price turns lower. Similar condition also encourages the slaughter of many cows,� he explained. Additionally, Suparta said the policy governing the shipment of bull whose weight exceeding 350 kilograms had led to the negative selection. “Such structural policies should be re-examined because it has a negative impact on the existence of Bali cow breeding, especially in Bali. Attitudes and motivation of breeders will be weakening and making farmers more helpless. On the other hand, the genuine germ plasm of Bali cow is believed to only exist in Bali,� he said. According to him, behavioral changes of the breeders could be realized faster when accompanied by mentoring activities. LONDON — Prince William joined a frantic search and rescue mission Sunday after a cargo ship sank in the Irish Sea, leaving several members of the Russian crew missing. The second in line to the British throne, who is a Royal Air Force helicopter and known professionally as Flight Lt. William Wales, was aboard an aircraft which rescued two crew members early Sunday, after their vessel’s hull cracked in gale force winds off the coast of north Wales. Britain’s defense ministry said William had been co-pilot of the helicopter, which carried two people back to his base RAF Valley, on the Welsh island of Anglesey. Authorities said five people remain missing after the Cook Islandsregistered Swanland cargo ship, which had eight people on board and was carrying thousands of tons of limestone, sent a mayday call. Holyhead Coastguard said one body had been recovered from the sea, but that the fate of the other crew members was not yet known. “We know that at least some of them are wearing immersion suits and have strobe lighting with them, however sea conditions are challenging at best,” said Jim Green, a coastguard spokesman. Rescue helicopters from RAF Valley and from Dublin coastguard base in Ireland were initially sent to the scene, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northwest of the Llyn peninsula in north Wales. Helicopters from RAF Chivenor, in southwest England, and the Irish Coastguard are continuing to search for the missing crew, along with boats from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. “Two RNLI lifeboats, along with four search and rescue helicopters and two other commercial boats, are searching for the remaining six crew,” the RNLI said in a statement. for secular and liberal Egyptians eager to keep religion and politics separate. Voters stood in long lines outside some polling centers in Cairo well before they opened at 8 a.m. local time (0600GMT), a rare sign of interest in political participation after decades of apathy created by the mass rigging of almost every election. Putin stepped down in 2008 after two presidential terms, but kept his hold on power. He announced in September that he intended to return to the top job next year and was formally nominated Sunday by his United Russia party. “All our foreign partners need to understand this: Russia is a democratic country, it’s a reliable and predictable partner with which
they can and must reach agreement, but on which they cannot impose anything from the outside,” Putin told his audience. The party congress, which was televised live, was aimed at boosting support for Putin and his party before parliamentary elections one week away. Increasingly seen as representing the interests of a corrupt bureaucracy, United Russia has watched its public approval ratings plummet in recent months. The party is still certain to win the Dec. 4 election, but is expected to lose the current two-thirds majority that has allowed it to change the constitution at will. Putin’s decision to swap jobs
with President Dmitry Medvedev after the presidential vote in March, presented as a done deal at the party congress in September, also has soured the public mood. Many Russians are wary of Putin’s authoritarian tendencies and fear he will remain in power for 12 more years to become the longest-serving leader since Communist times. Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

JAKARTA - The House of Representatives (DPR) is planning to revise Law No. 7 of 1996 on Food on the ground it is no longer relevant to the effort to meet the public`s food needs. The law only focused on food consumption and did not cover food production and distribution, Deputy House Commission IV Herman Khaeron said here on Sunday. “The House Commission IV deems it necessary to amend several clauses in Law No. 7 of 1996. Hopefully, (after being revised) the law can better meet the people`s food needs, increase institutional functions, ensure food security, and provide safe and nutritious food for the Indonesian people,” he said. The substance of clauses on the fulfillment of food needs in the law was very general so that there were still many obstacles to implement the law, he said. “The concept of food security in the law only concerns food consumption and distribution. It has not yet been able to answer the issue of domestic food supplies and production because institutional problems remain unsolved,” he said. The revision would affect article 23 to article 60 of the law concerning food reserves, food imports and exports, food diversification, and food crisis. “In addition, articles 67, 70, 71, 79, 82 and 84 concerning administrative sanctions will also be revised,” he added.

JAKARTA - Vice P President Boediono said the nation needed to w work harder to prevent the achi spread of AIDS to achieve the target of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2015. “Based on a report from Bappenas (national development planning board) on MDGs, the prevention of HIV/AIDS has not been on the right track to achieve the target of MDGs in 2015 and therefore, there need to be harder work from all of us,” he said in his address marking the World AIDS Day 2011 here on Sunday. Although the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in Indonesia was still low or 0.17 percent of its population, statistical data suggested that the number of new HIV/AIDS-affected cases in the country was still on the increase, he said. It seemed that the mortality rate of HIV/AIDSaffected people had begun to decline. In 2007, 21 percent of HIV/AIDS-affected people died but the figure fell to 17 percent in 2008, he said. Despite the drop, the vice president said the number of people dying of AIDS was still significant, ranging between 3,000 and 5,000 per year. This meant that 10 people died of AIDS every day, he said. AIDS sufferers who had access to anti retroviral medicines had not reached 40 percent of the entire AIDS sufferers, he said. He noted that harder work was badly needed to prevent the spread of AIDS. There were at least five steps to prevent the spread of AIDS; firstly, expanding service facility networks for HIV/AIDS sufferers; secondly, promoting the public participation in the prevention and handling of AIDS sufferers, and thirdly, improving coordination and management involving all parties and institutions handling HIV/AIDS-related problem. The fourth thing was improving the information system and the fifth was mobilizing funds to handle HIV/AIDS case across the country, he said.

BUBUH INJIN Black Rice Pudding OVERVIEW: Different versions of this Balinese snack are a great favorite with visitors to Bali. INGREDIENTS: 1 cup black glutinous rice ž cup white glutinous rice 2 pandan leaves 5 cups water ½ cup palm sugar syrup 1½ cup freshly squeezed thick coconut milk PREPARATION: 1. Rinse both lots of rice well for 2 minutes under running water. Drain 2. Put 5 cups water, both lots of rice and pandan leaf into heavy stockpot. Simmer over medium heat approximately 40 minutes. 3. Add palm sugar syrup and continue to cook until most liquid has evaporated. Season with a pinch of salt. Remove from heat and allow cooling. 4. Serve at room temperature, topped with freshly squeezed coconut milk. Helpful hints: As fresh coconut milk turns rancid fairly quickly, a pinch of salt is usually added to the milk to help preserve it for few hours. A more effective alternative is to cook the coconut milk with 1 teaspoon of cornstarch diluted in a little water: heat gently, stirring constantly for a couple of minutes. This coconut sauce will keep overnight. Milk made from instant powdered coconut will not turn rancid, although the avor is not as good as fresh coconut milk.

Combine all ingredients except salam leafs and Lemon grass, salt and water in food processor and grind coarsely. 2. Place ground ingredients in heavy saucepan, add remaining ingredients and simmer over medium heat for approximately 60 minutes or until water is evaporated and marinade changes to golden color.

MUMBAI — India’s new open door policy for foreign retailers is stirring a backlash from some state governments who fear the move will be unpopular with their constituencies of small traders and shop owners. The new regulations don’t require Parliamentary approval, but to set up shop, foreign retailers such as Wal-Mart and Tesco must get a green light from the government of the state where they want to do business. Five state leaders made clear over the weekend their unwillingness to let foreign companies in. Parliament adjourned Monday in an uproar over the issue and Communist Party controlled trade unions have pledged to strike on Dec. . The central government has taken out advertisements to quell critics, championing the new rules as a way to make food cheaper for everyone, eliminate waste that claims up to 40 percent of all fresh produce, and create millions of jobs. The leaders of the states of Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Orissa and West Bengal have all publicly opposed the ruling Congress Party’s move to let foreign retailers own up to 5 percent of supermarkets and 00 percent of singlebrand stores, according to the Press Trust of India. LOS ANGELES - Less than a third of the $16 million gathered in 2010 by hip-hop star Wyclef Jean for earthquake relief in Haiti actually made it to emergency efforts in the country, the New York Post reported on Sunday. According to the exclusive report, Jean’s charity, Yele Haiti, doled out millions in questionable contracts -- in fact, $1 million was paid to a Florida firm that doesn’t seem to exist. The Post also reported that a company called P&A Construction -- which is run by Warnel Pierre, Jean’s brother-in-law -- received $353,983 from the group. Founded in 2005 with his cousin Jerry Duplessis, Jean’s charity was troubled before the disastrous January 2010 earthquake struck his native country. In
2008, it was revealed that the organization had never filed required tax forms detailing its spending to the IRS. The charity lost $244,000 in 2009. But almost immediately after the January 12, 2010, quake, Jean took to Twitter asking for $5 donations, which quickly rolled in. Soon after, it was reported that Yele Haiti had given $250,000 to a Haitian TV station controlled by Jean and Duplessis. “Have we made mistakes before? Yes,” said a tearful Jean, a former Haitian presidential candidate, holding a January 2010 press conference to defend his charity against that charge. “Did I ever use Yele money for personal benefits? Absolutely not. Yele’s books are open and transparent.” Yele Haiti has not yet issued a statement to respond to the new charges. GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A young wolf from Oregon has become a media celebrity while looking for love, tracing a zigzag path that has carried him hundreds of miles nearly to California, while his alpha male sire and a sibling that stayed home near the Idaho border are under a death warrant for killing cattle. Backcountry lodge owner Liz Parrish thinks she locked eyes with the wolf called OR-7 on the edge of the meadow in front of her Crystalwood Lodge, on the western shore of Upper Klamath Lake, and hopes someday she will hear his howls coming out of the tall timber. “I was stunned — it was such a huge animal,” said Parrish, who has seen her share of wolves while racing dog sleds in Alaska and Minnesota. “He just stopped and stared. I stopped and stared. We had a stare-down that seemed like a long time, but was probably just a few seconds. “He just evaporated into the trees. I
stayed there awhile, hoping he might come back. He didn’t.” Cattle rancher Nathan Jackson has not seen or heard the wolf, and hopes he never does. “In this country, we worked really hard to exterminate wolves 50 years ago or so, and there was a reason,” said Jackson, who ranches on the other side of Upper Klamath Lake from Parrish’s lodge. “A lot of people who don’t have a direct tie to the agricultural community tend to view wolves as majestic, beautiful creatures. They don’t seem so majestic and beautiful when they are ripping apart calves and colts.”
Last February, y, OR-7 was in a snowy canyon in northeastern Oregon, when a state biologist shot him with a tranquilizer dart from a helicopter, then fitted him with a tracking collar and blue ear tags. State biologists have been able to chart his journey from GPS positions transmitted from the collar. They show he has traveled 730 miles on his meandering route, getting as far as 320 miles from home. And each time he crosses a county line, OR-7 makes it into the newspapers and on TV news. The conservation group Oregon Wild has begun a contest to give OR-7 a different name, hoping to make him too famous to be shot, either by a poacher, rancher or government hunter. One entry came from as far away as Finland. The first came from a little girl in OR-7’s home territory of Wallowa County, who suggested “Whoseafraida.”

Since he was 14, Al-Amin has tapped gum arabic, the resin of an acacia tree that thrives in Sudan’s conflict states -- “manna” from heaven for some, a key ingredient in Coca-Cola for others. But the low price he gets has made the 40-year-old farmer from North Kordofan consider cutting his trees down and selling the wood as charcoal to feed his wife and seven children, despite such actions contributing to the desertification of central Sudan. “The producer has needs ... He doesn’t have any alternative but to look to his farm and think about how much he will get if he chops down his trees,” said Al-Amin. Sudan’s vast woodland savanna, or gum arabic belt, stretches from the border with Ethiopia in the east to Chad in the west, providing the ideal habitat for the two gum arabic producing acacia trees, known as Talha and Hashab. They are most prevalent in the war-torn states of Blue Nile, South Kordofan and South Dar-
fur. Issam Siddig, a pioneer of Sudan’s gum arabic industry, has a messianic belief in the medicinal properties of this little-known commodity. He says it could transform the lives of Sudanese farmers, reverse the march of the desert and even halt the conflict in South Darfur, by persuading fighters to swap their guns for tapping tools, if only its real value was recognised. Abdelmagid Ghadir, the secretary general of Sudan’s Gum Arabic Board, agrees. “We believe gum arabic is the manna given by God, bread from heaven... But our people, the farmers, consider it to be a very marginal crop,” he said. Around 13 million people are thought to live in Sudan’s savanna belt, five million of whom are directly active in the business of the forest, whether collecting gum arabic, or chopping down the trees and growing crops in their place. Siddig blames four Western companies, which he claims have a stranglehold over the business, for marginalising the crop.

SYDNEY—Australia’s soccer chief isn’t convinced the 2022 World Cup will go ahead as planned in Qatar. Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy said on Monday that the “last word hasn’t been heard yetâ€? on the FIFA vote that awarded the event to Qatar over bids from countries including the United States and Australia. Lowy did not elaborate on how or why Qatar would lose the rights, but said it related to “the state of the FIFA executive committee.â€? “I don’t know whether you recall when I came back from that fateful day (after losing the bid) and I said ‘this is not the last word about awarding the World Cup,’ â€? Lowy said after he was formally re-elected as FFA chairman on Monday. “Well, it wasn’t the last word. “Don’t ask me to elaborate because I don’t have a crystal ball ‌ but the media all over the world is talking about that, the awarding particularly of ’22, the state of the FIFA executive

Hamilton ends feud with Massa LEWIS Hamilton ended his recent standoff with Felipe Massa after embracing his Ferrari rival immediately after the Brazilian Grand Prix. The Briton has experienced several run-ins with his Brazilian rival over the course of the campaign - which has included collisions in Monaco, Britain, Singapore, Japan, and India. The pair had never spoken about their situation, with Massa claiming Hamilton had
snubbed him in Singapore and the McLaren driver suggesting he saw no need to speak to his rival. But in a bid to draw a line under the tensions that have developed this season, Hamilton visited Massa at the Ferrari motorhome while he was speaking to Brazilian journalists. Speaking about what happened, Massa said: “I never had anything against him. I always respected him, even this year after
everything that has happened. “I think it is nice of him to come here because it was never going to come from me because I did nothing wrong during the year.” Hamilton said about the moment: “It’s been a long hard year for all the drivers, and I hope they all have a good winter. It was good to have a nice chat with Felipe after the race. I have great respect for him and I’m already looking forward to racing
him again next year.” Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali also praised Hamilton for going to see Massa after the race. “I think that I was pleased today to see Lewis Hamilton coming here today and hugging Felipe, because at the end of the day that is what it is all about,” he explained. “It was a good gesture and I am happy it is pretty cleared up. SAO PAULO - Mark Webber led a Red Bull one-two in the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday to celebrate his first victory of the year in the last race of the Formula One season. The Australian, second on the starting grid, passed world champion Sebastian Vettel for the lead after 30 of the 71 laps when his team mate was apparently wrestling with a gearbox problem.
German Vettel, who wrapped up his second title last month with four races to spare, finished second -- 16.9 seconds behind -- and ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button. The win was Webber’s first since Hungary in August 2010, 26 races ago, and the seventh of his career. “Fantastic Mark, well done. You’ve won the Brazilian Grand Prix again,” team boss Christian Horner told the 35-year-old, a winner at anti-clockwise Interlagos in 2009, over the team radio after he took the chequered flag. “Yep, thanks guys,” was Webber’s deadpan response, in marked contrast to the excited whoops and screams that have marked every Vettel win this year. Vettel, who started from a record 15th pole of the season and was chasing a 12th win in 19 races, posted a series of fastest laps after Webber had gone past but the Australian would not let victory slip through his hands. He turned the timing screens purple on the penultimate lap and then went even faster on the last, despite his race engineer telling him he had the quickest lap in the bag and “you don’t need any more”. “It would have been nice to have had a race with Sebastian all the way through,” said Webber who sprayed the champagne with genuine enthusiasm nonetheless. “It’s a win that you’ll take. That’s how motorsport goes sometimes.” Button, the 2009 world champion, sealed second place in the overall standings ahead of Webber after being passed by Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso with a breathtaking move early on but seizing back the place with nine laps to go. “Bring on 2012,” said Button after thanking his team for all their efforts. Alonso, who won both his titles with Renault at Interlagos, finished fourth.
