Kevin Spacey to sing in Washington concert Associated Press

NEW YORK — He has lied, cheated and killed, but “House of Cards” President Frank Underwood isn’t done yet. Next he’s going to sing. Two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey will take time out from filming the third season of the Netflix hit series to show off his vocal talents at a one-night-only gala concert Sept. 29 at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C. The concert will benefit scholarships and grants for emerging artists. Spacey, who played singer Bobby Darin in “Beyond the Sea,” promises some Billy Joel songs, some Simon & Garfunkel, a bit of Sinatra, plenty of swing, a few stories and a surprise guest or two, all backed by a 40-piece orchestra. “You never know what I might come up with,” he said. Tickets, still available, are $104. Proceeds from the show will help fund the Kevin Spacey Foundation, which recently chose Pace University in New York to be the first institution of higher education in the United States to receive its scholarships and funding support.

Five incoming Pace students who received the first U.S. scholarships will start this fall and 10 others will receive funds to support travel expenses to perform abroad. Spacey’s foundation, with $500,000 in scholarships and $200,000 in grants, also helps students at Regent’s University London. “We’re hoping to expand these scholarships in lots of universities and drama schools around the country. Our intention is to continue to grow and expand our reach,” Spacey said. “In large measure it’s because I’m a recipient of these kinds of things.”

Spacey, who won Oscars for the movies “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty,” was also the star of “Pay It Forward,” and the Juilliard-trained actor said he remembers as a middle-class student struggling to pay tuition. “I was on a couple of scholarships. I had a job in the school administrative office. I had a job as a hat-check boy in a restaurant. I had another job as an assistant to a casting director. It took a lot to get myself enough money to put myself through Juilliard,” he said. “I know how difficult it can be. Presidential Special Staff for International Relations Teuku Faizasyah noted that during the meeting, the Indonesian head of state and UN chief will discuss, among other things, the continuation of the UNAOC forum themed “Unity in Diversity” and the developments related to regional and global issues.

“Yudhoyono and Ki-moon meeting this time is unique because they will discuss things related to unity in diversity,” Faizasyah remarked. He noted that in the national framework, Indonesia became a role model in the development of unity in diversity. Besides the bilateral meeting

with the UN chief, President Yudhoyono is also scheduled to receive an honorary visit by Iyad Ameen Madani, the secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, and Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.

VENICE - The Venice film festival opened with a bang on Wednesday with a brilliant superhero dark comedy that delves into the cinema and theatre worlds to explore the drug that is fame. The first flick to compete at the world’s oldest film festival, Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance”, stars Michael Keaton of “Beetlejuice” and “Batman” fame.

In one of 20 films vying for the coveted Golden Lion award, Keaton plays a washed-up actor who was once famous for playing the “Birdman” superhero but is now struggling to stage a Broadway play in a bid to regain his former glory. Bali News TABANAN - Responding to road damage complained by residents of Nyambu village, the Regent of Tabanan, Ni Putu Eka Wiryastuti, visited and saw in person the damaged road at the village, Wednesday (Aug 27). Headman of Nyambu, Putu Sumarbawa, on the occasion hoped the damaged road could be repaired. Eka promised to repair the damaged road at Nyambu village along 4.6 kilometers. Funding for the road repair sourced from the province. She continued that the damaged road was one of the main problems in Tabanan. Surely the damaged roads would require a large amount of funds. “Hot mix asphalt pavement along one kilometer requires the fund worth IDR 1 billion,” she said. Meanwhile, the revenue of Tabanan County amounted

to IDR 65 billion. Eka hoped that people could wait because the revenue of Tabanan alone was insufficient to repair the whole damaged roads in Tabanan so that it was undertaken in stages. On that account, she invited the residents of Tabanan to participate in the development of their village. Participation of Tabanan community in improving their road could be seen from the road along 700 meters having been repaired with independent fund collected from the community as well as 140 meters of road funded with rural infrastructure improvement and empowerment program (PPIP). DENPASAR - Denpasar Police Narcotics Unit will target mushroom (of cow dung) drug users as it belongs to first class narcotic. However, police will make socialization first related to the hazards of the mushroom. “The mushroom belongs to the first class narcotic as set forth in the Narcotic Law No. 35/2009 in the Appendix Number 46. Maximal punishment can be charged for 12 years,” said Denpasar Police Narcotics Unit, Gede Ganefo, Wednesday (Aug 27). According to this former Chief of Denpasar Police Intelligence and Security, many people still did not know if the mushroom belonging to narcotic. MANGUPURA - Entrepreneurs of water sports in Tanjung Benoa, South Kuta, started to take real action to reject the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. The organization of water sport entrepreneurs in what the so-called the Alliance of the Tanjung Benoa Water Sports Entrepreneurs, started to put up billboards containing the rejection against the reclamation in front of their business premises, at Tanjung Benoa, Wednesday (Aug 27). Installation of that billboard started around 4:00 p.m. The installation began from the area of Bayu Sutha Water Sport on Jalan Pratama, Tanjung Benoa, and then was followed by BMR Water Sport and other places. While installing billboards, dozens of people coalesced into the action shouted the rejection against the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. Chairman of the Alliance of the Tanjung Benoa Water Sports Entrepreneurs, Nyoman Karjaya, revealed that a total of 18 of 20 water sport businesses at Tanjung Benoa had joined the alliance and agreed to reject the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. The 18 businesses included the Pandawa, BMR, Bayu Sutha, Siwa Sempurna, Mawar Kuning,

Bali Dolphin, NBC, Bali Indah, Sea-Track, Mekar Sari, Kanaka, Water Mark, Bali Pacific, Batara, Wibisana, Jet- set, Zooka and the North Coast. According to him, the movement posed the beginning of a struggle to reject the reclamation plan. Through the movement, his party hoped the new government led by Jokowi would be willing to hear the people’s aspirations. “It is the beginning of our movement. This alliance will strive to reject reclamation. Hopefully, Jokowi and the new government would be willing to hear people’s aspirations. Besides, we also appeal to the President SBY to revoke the Presidential Decree No. 51/2014,”

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

AUSTIN — At the age of 9, Isabella Rose Taylor — a painter since she was 3 — took a weeklong sewing class with an eye toward incorporating textiles into her artwork. She quickly discovered a love for fashion design as well, taking the class twice more that summer. Now, at 13, her line is debuting at Nordstrom stores this fall and she’s set to hold her first show at New York Fashion Week. “It just started out as a really fun hobby and it grew into a business over the years,” Taylor said at her Austin, Texas, home, where she’s converted one room into a studio and another into an office. She added, “I just really fell in love with it the way I fell in love with art, and I realized that I just had so much fun connecting the two.” With inspiration from an abstract mixed media painting she did when she was younger that includes reds, grays, blues, mustard yellow and neutral earthy tones, Taylor created a fall line with a “street grunge vibe” and “modern hippie” inspiration. “It all started with the colors of the painting for me,” Taylor said. Jennifer Jackson Brown, a corporate merchandise manager for Nordstrom, said Taylor’s line was a good fit for their juniors section. She said that at the same time she was contacted by Taylor’s camp, her team had been trying to track Taylor down after seeing her on a television appearance. “What we really liked about her is that she is actually the age of customer so there’s that relatability factor that she has,” Jackson Brown said. Taylor’s fall collection includes “shorties,” high-waisted shorts made of a soft knit that can be paired with leggings and boots. There’s also a flannel jacket featuring one of the details she likes to include: a tiny American flag button on the pocket. A jersey baby doll dress and a henley tunic dress feature the painting that inspired the collection. Taylor said that after taking the sewing classes, she gradually got more serious about fashion, making clothes for friends, designing a collection and eventually getting a handful of items produced and selling them online and at trunk shows. Her line is now produced in Los Angeles. Taylor went to school on an accelerated schedule, graduating from high school at 11 and now attending community college. Sherri Taylor said it was apparent early on that her daughter had an aptitude for art. “When she was really young we really noticed how she played with colors and it was just very unusual,” she said. “We knew that something was happening so we just kept buying her more colors.” Jennifer LaTorre-Daly, a 20-year veteran of the fashion industry, joined Taylor’s team last fall as the New Yorkbased strategic planning director, focusing on getting Taylor’s clothes in major retail outlets. “It’s a great concept: She’s designing for her peers,” LaTorre-Daly said.

Two human skulls Frighten Banjar villagers Bali Post

SINGARAJA - Residents of Ambengan hamlet, Banjar village, Banjar subdistrict, were suddenly excited. They found two human skulls in a plot of land belonging to a resident who was building a villa. The findings were reported to local police station for further investigation. As information collected in the field on Wednesday (Aug 27), the two skulls, skeletons and jaw remaining to contain human teeth were found in two days successively. At first, a skull was found on

Saturday (Aug 23). On the following day, Sunday (Aug 24), it was then found another human skull. The finding of human skull began when construction workers were building villas. Previously,

this land was owned by Putu Suardana, a local resident, spreading across an area of approximately 0.20 hectares. The land had been sold to a foreigner from Australia, Mr. Asley, for building a villa. When digging the land for a swimming pool, the workers found an object resembling to a small jug made of clay. Finding of the object did not make the workers suspicious, so that they kept digging. When the excavation reached a depth of about two meters, they

found two human skulls. Condition of the human skulls when found had shattered, while their jaws were still intact. In addition, they also found about 30 human bone fragments. Definitely the findings made the workers shocked. Not long after, the information on the finding of human skulls spread and residents thronged to visit the excavation site. He said the results of examination against witnesses as well as testimony of the administrative and customary village officials indicated if the land where the foreigner built the villas was formerly used to bury people dying from hazardous disease in 1950 to 1960. Referring to above description, his party concluded if the findings of human skulls and bone fragments originated from the human bodies buried at that time. “Well, it is true there is a finding of human skulls and bone fragments. We’ve witnessed and asked for an explanation to administrative and customary village officers. The land from that location to the radius of Segara Temple was often used to bury the bodies of residents suffering hazardous diseases like leprosy. So, we come to conclusion if the skulls belong to the bodies buried in the past,” he said. Following the findings of two human skulls and bones, added Hendrik, the village officials agreed to hold a ritual for the human skull and bones pursuant to tradition of Banjar hamlet. While waiting for an auspicious day, the human skulls and bones were left at the site of finding and guarded by police. “The officials of administrative and customary village have agreed to organize a ritual according to local tradition. DENPASAR - Denpasar Police made a raid to a boarding house on Jalan Gunung Lumut, West Denpasar, Monday (Aug 25). At the scene, police secured a book modified into a safe containing 8 packages of crystal meth weighing 151.35 grams, 62 ecstasy pills, two packages of heroin weighing 6.68 grams and a package of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) or ecstasy powder weighing 20.33 grams. Related to the case, police arrested the suspects identified as DA, 35, and JS, 30. “The suspects (DA and JS) alleged to be drug dealers also mixed ecstasy alone. Under the driver’s seat was found 5.31 grams of crystal meth. In addition, around 6:00 p.m., the Denpasar Police Narcotics Unit arrested BPS, 32, because the suspect was caught carrying two packages of marijuana weighing 0.64 gram and 8.21 grams. WASHINGTON - The US Congressional Budget Office raised its forecast for the US fiscal deficit this year on Wednesday, but said it would still be much lower than last year’s. The CBO also reiterated its medium-term view that the US deficit will begin accelerating at the end of this decade, gaining size in real terms and as a percentage of gross domestic product. The agency’s new estimate for the deficit for the year ending September 30 is $506 billion, out of a $3.5 trillion budget, slightly higher than the $492 billion in its April estimate. The CBO said lower-than-expected tax payments by businesses forced it to cut its forecast for total government receipts. Even so, the total deficit would be $174 billion less than last year’s, and come in at 2.9 percent of GDP, down from almost 10 percent in fiscal 2009, when the crisis-period deficit hit $1.4 trillion. That trend was projected to continue over the next three years as the impact of the 2008-2009 Great Recession ebbs, with businesses boosting investment and consumers spending more. Even so, the persistent deficit will continue to push US debt to higher levels, the CBO forecasted. Total debt held by the public would rise from 72.0 percent of GDP last year to 74.4 percent this year, and continue to push to more than 77 percent in 2024, when the annual deficit would again approach $1 trillion, on a $4.9 trillion budget. That rise would come with the rapid increase in Social Security and government medical insurance payments required by an aging population. The surge in debt needed to finance the deficit over the longer term “would have serious negative consequences,” the CBO said, including higher costs for debt service, slower economic growth, and, eventually, an increase in the risk of another fiscal crisis.

Previously, the Regent of Tabanan, Ni Putu Eka Wiryastuti, had reasserted through the Regent Regulation No.74/2013 regarding the tightening of land plotting to suppress farmland conversion in Tabanan County. The regulation also specified the land plotting for the construction of housing complex and settlement in Tabanan County where the land plotting should be made at least on an area of 0.60 hectares. CANBERRA — The massive undersea search area for a missing Malaysian airliner in the southern Indian Ocean could be extended farther south based on new satellite analysis, only weeks before the multimillion dollar, yearlong sonar hunt for wreckage is due to begin, officials said Thursday. Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss said analysis of a failed attempted satellite phone call from Malaysia Airlines to Flight 370 “suggests to us that the aircraft might have turned south a little earlier than we had previously expected.” The Boeing 777 disappeared off radar after veering off its northerly course from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, and is thought to have crashed 1,800 kilometers (1,100 miles) off Australia’s west coast. commissioner Martin Dolan said he would meet with international experts next week to decide whether the 60,000 square kilometer (23,000 square mile) targeted search area should be extended or shifted farther south based on the new analysis. “We think we may extend that area farther south; that’s the thing we’re currently considering,” Dolan told The Associated Press. The new analysis applies to satellite data from the first of two satellite phone calls Malaysia Airlines ground staff attempted to make to Flight 370’s crew. By the time the calls were attempted, the plane had become invisible to civilian radar. It had flown west without communications past Sumatra and beyond the range of Malaysian military radar. Dolan said the new analysis suggested the jet was already flying south when the first phone call was attempted less than 20 minutes after the plane dropped off military radar. “Previously, there was the possibility that it could have been quite a bit later, so we had to do our modeling based on a range of possibilities as to where the aircraft turned,” Dolan said. “We’re now more confident that it turned comparatively early. That does make a difference to how we prioritize the search along the 7th arc,” he added, referring to the 60,000 square kilometer (23,000 square mile) area where satellite information from a jet engine transmitter suggests the plane ran out of fuel and crashed. The current search area covers a swath of ocean 700 kilometers (435 miles) long and 80 kilometers (50 miles) wide. An initial search of 850 square kilometers (330 square miles) of seabed to the north ended with officials concluding that they were focusing their efforts in the wrong place. Truss and Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai signed an agreement Thursday sharing the ongoing costs between the two countries as the search progresses to the expensive next phase, which could take up to a year and cost 52 million Australian dollars ($48 million). Until now, each country involved in the search has been bearing its own costs.

Tens of thousands have already lined up to open accounts since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the campaign in his Independence Day speech to the nation on Aug. 15, bank managers said Thursday. Modi urged banks in a recent letter to “try your best to ensure that no one is left without a bank account.” The goal is to sign up 150 million people by 2018. About half of India’s 1.2 billion people lack bank accounts. “This is a national priority and we must rise to meet this challenge,” Modi’s letter said, according to his web site. “There is an urgency to this exercise, as all other development activities are hindered by this single disability.” The four-year program may also help beat back the endemic corruption affecting almost every level of Indian bureaucracy, by channeling

government welfare and work payments directly into the accounts of individuals rather than through regional and local offices. “Any help the government provides will be deposited ... that is why I opened this account,” said Ramesh Singh, a 27-year-old chauffeur, as he lined up to submit his paperwork at a bank branch in the southern suburbs of New Delhi. The accounts are unique in that they would stay open even if empty, a key condition for keeping enrolled the hundreds of millions of impoverished Indians earning about a dollar a day or less. As an incentive, the federal government is providing 100,000 rupees ($1,650) in life insurance to every account holder. Dozens of state banks with more than 100,000 branches countrywide are participating.

BANGKOK — A Thai court has dismissed a murder case against former premier Abhisit Vejjajiva and his deputy, who were indicted for their role in ordering a deadly crackdown on anti-government protesters in 2010. The judges ruled Thursday the Criminal Court has no authority to handle the case because the two accused were holders of political office at the time they gave the order. The ruling comes three months after Thailand’s army chief overthrew the country’s elected government in a bloodless coup. Abhisit had opposed the ousted government along with his No. 2, Suthep Thaugsuban, who had served as deputy prime minister. Dozens of people were killed in the 2010 crackdown, during which demonstrators who occupied downtown Bangkok for nine weeks were violently dispersed.

JAKARTA — Four janitors charged with raping a kindergartner at a prestigious international school in Indonesia retracted their confessions Wednesday, saying they were tortured by police during questioning. They made the retractions on the second day of the closeddoor trials of five custodians at the Jakarta International School, which is facing a storm of controversy following allegations of additional abuse. The school was shaken earlier this year in an unrelated case after news surfaced that William Vahey, an American who taught there from 1992 to 2002, killed himself as the FBI was investigating evidence that he may have sexually abused scores of teenage boys during a 40-year career at 10 international schools across four continents. However, there have been no allegations that he molested any students in Indonesia. Six custodians — five men and a woman — were arrested in April. However, one man committed suicide by drinking bathroom cleanser while in police custody. Their trials began Tuesday at the South Jakarta District Court with

the first male defendant. Patra M. Zen, one of their lawyers, said the defendants insisted Wednesday they were innocent and retracted the confessions they had given investigators, saying they could not withstand the alleged torture. The defendants are Virgiawan Amir, Syahrial, Zainal Abidin and Afrischa Setyani. Setyani, the only woman, is accused of being an accomplice. The first hearing on Tuesday was for the fifth defendant, Agun Iskandar. They could face up to 15 years in jail if found guilty of raping the 6-year-old boy, whose parents are seeking $125 million in compensation from the school. Since the case of the janitors surfaced, two other families of young male students have come forward, leading to the arrests in July of Canadian school administrator Neil Bantleman and Indonesia teaching assistant Ferdinant Tjiong. A campaign on social media has called for the release of the staff members, who have denied the allegations. The school is attended by the children of foreign diplomats, businesspeople and Indonesia’s elite. It has 2,400 students aged 3 to 18 from about 60 different countries.

Public confidence level in Jokowi reaches 71 percent

LSI’s surveyor Rully Akbar noted that the survey was conducted on August 23-27 and involved 1.2 thousand respondents across Indonesia. The survey was held using multistage random sampling system. “However, Jokowi must be aware that higher the expectations are, the more likely it is for people to get disappointed,” remarked Rully. Rully pointed out four issues

that Jokowi needs to address, which are possible failure in realizing his campaign promises, the pressure to implement a fuel price hike, issues with members of the parliament and political compromise with his allies during election. He also cited the example of the people’s expectations towards President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono during the initial six months of him leading the government. At the time, the people’s trust on his government was recorded at 51.30 percent. However, a year later, the number decreased to 45.70 percent. “Let us hope that Jokowi and his running mate Jusuf Kalla can find a solution to these problems,” Rully stressed.

NUSA DUA - Indonesia and Australia on Thursday signed an agreement aimed at drawing a line under a damaging espionage row and paving the way for the resumption of full cooperation on issues such as defence. Ties between the neighbours sank to their lowest point in years in November after reports that Australian spies tried to tap the phones of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his inner circle. Jakarta recalled its ambassador from Canberra and suspended cooperation in several areas over the incident, including efforts to stop people-smuggling boats reaching Australia. Yudhoyono called for a code of conduct to govern behaviour and, after months of talks on the issue, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and her Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa on Thursday signed an agreement. With Yudhoyono looking on, the pair inked the deal, named the “Joint Understanding on a Code of Conduct between the Republic of Indonesia and Australia”, at a ceremony on the Indonesian resort island of Bali. In the agreement, Indonesia and Australia pledge to not use their intelligence agencies to harm one another and to increase cooperation at a time fears are growing about the threat posed by home-grown Islamic militants returning from Middle East conflicts.

“We are back to where we should have been in terms of IndonesiaAustralia relations,” Natalegawa said, adding that he believed cooperation would be “even more enhanced in the future in front of us”. Bishop said: “Despite some recent challenges in our relationship -- as there can be between neighbours, even strategic partners as close as Australia and Indonesia -- we have proven that our two countries can keep working together across the board.” She added the agreement was “the most effective way to defeat those who would do harm to the people of Australia and Indonesia”. Both countries have expressed alarm that home-grown extremists are heading in increasing numbers to fight with violent groups such as the Islamic State overseas, and have stepped up counter terrorism efforts. Yudhoyono said he hoped relations would be strengthened by the accord: “I am hoping, personally, that we could go back to our strong relations and effective cooperation.”

Allegations that Australian spies tried to tap the phones of Yudhoyono, his wife and several top officials in 2009 sparked one of the worst diplomatic crises between the two strategic allies in years. Reports at the time said that Australia’s electronic intelligence agency tracked Yudhoyono’s activity on his mobile phone for 15 days in August 2009, when Labor’s Kevin Rudd was prime minister. The list of tracking targets also included his wife Ani, the foreign affairs spokesman, the security minister and the information minister. Jakarta responded furiously to the reports, which were based on documents leaked by US intelligence fugitive Edward Snowden, by suspending bilateral cooperation in key areas. Ties were further strained by Australia’s policy of pushing people-smuggling boats carrying asylum-seekers back to Indonesia. Indonesia and Australia are close strategic and trading partners and have traditionally worked together in many areas, including on anti-terrorism initiatives and on the sensitive issue of would-be refugees.

Maria Sharapova comes through in 3 sets at US Open Associated Press

NEW YORK — A year ago at this time, Maria Sharapova was sitting out the U.S. Open, getting checked by doctors and having tests on the surgically repaired right shoulder that has troubled her off and on. On Wednesday, Sharapova found herself down by a set and facing a break point early in the second at Flushing Meadows, bothered by the whipping wind, her own off-target strokes and an opponent who wasn’t backing down. As dusk fell and the Arthur Ashe Stadium lights came on, Sharapova came through the way she so often does in the crucible of a third set, beating 95th-ranked Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the Grand Slam tournament she won in 2006 but has missed twice in the past six years. Sharapova won in part because of her big shots, yes, but also because she had more in the tank when it mattered. “Overall I felt like in the end I was in much better shape than she was, and I could have played another few sets,” Sharapova said. “Mentally that helped me a lot.” It helped that Dulgheru had played one set over the past five weeks because of inflammation in her right wrist, which was operated on in May 2013 and flared up recently. Dulgheru, though, pointed to Sharapova’s grit as a key factor, too. “The thing is that she’s smacking the ball and she’s a fighter. ... It can seem that she’s down, that she’s tired, but she’s there,” Dulgheru said. “She can get mentally really tough. She hangs in there with you

Jorge Lorenzo reckons Marc Marquez will surpass Valentino Rossi’s statistics and become the greatest MotoGP rider of all time. Marquez won the MotoGP title at the first attempt in 2013, and became the series’ youngest champion too at the age of 20. The Honda rider began his title defence with 10 straight wins before the streak ended with a muted fourth in the Czech Grand Prix earlier this month. Rossi set new records in premier class grand prix motorcycle racing during his heyday, but his Yamaha team-­mate Lorenzo believes Marquez has every chance to outstrip those achievements. “He can get it if he doesn’t get injured and if he keeps a very strong bike like he has now, if he keeps on training like he is training now and with the motivation that he has in racing now,” Lorenzo told the Australian Grand Prix podcast. “He’s very talented and he’s not scared of anything, still. “He has everything. He’s young, talented, ambitious and has a good bike and a good team.” Marquez has beaten Rossi’s early ­career statistics already, with Rossi not winning his first top­-class title until 21 ­years ­old, and Marquez already on course for his second MotoGP crown at that age. Although the 2010 and ‘12 MotoGP world champion has been overshadowed by Marquez of late, Lorenzo believes he still has time to add plenty more success to his CV, having recently extended his Yamaha deal by another two years, ­taking him into the new technical rules era in 2016. “It’s important to stay in the same team for 2016 because you’ll be making an evolution of the bike without your own electronics. 2016 will be a completely different year,” said Lorenzo. “I still want to end my career with Yamaha.”

Maria Sharapova comes through in 3 sets at US Open Associated Press

NEW YORK — A year ago at this time, Maria Sharapova was sitting out the U.S. Open, getting checked by doctors and having tests on the surgically repaired right shoulder that has troubled her off and on. On Wednesday, Sharapova found herself down by a set and facing a break point early in the second at Flushing Meadows, bothered by the whipping wind, her own off-target strokes and an opponent who wasn’t backing down. As dusk fell and the Arthur Ashe Stadium lights came on, Sharapova came through the way she so often does in the crucible of a third set, beating 95th-ranked Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the Grand Slam tournament she won in 2006 but has missed twice in the past six years. Sharapova won in part because of her big shots, yes, but also because she had more in the tank when it mattered. “Overall I felt like in the end I was in much better shape than she was, and I could have played another few sets,” Sharapova said. “Mentally that helped me a lot.” It helped that Dulgheru had played one set over the past five weeks because of inflammation in her right wrist, which was operated on in May 2013 and flared up recently. Dulgheru, though, pointed to Sharapova’s grit as a key factor, too. “The thing is that she’s smacking the ball and she’s a fighter. ... It can seem that she’s down, that she’s tired, but she’s there,” Dulgheru said. “She can get mentally really tough. She hangs in there with you

Jorge Lorenzo reckons Marc Marquez will surpass Valentino Rossi’s statistics and become the greatest MotoGP rider of all time. Marquez won the MotoGP title at the first attempt in 2013, and became the series’ youngest champion too at the age of 20. The Honda rider began his title defence with 10 straight wins before the streak ended with a muted fourth in the Czech Grand Prix earlier this month. Rossi set new records in premier class grand prix motorcycle racing during his heyday, but his Yamaha team-­mate Lorenzo believes Marquez has every chance to outstrip those achievements. “He can get it if he doesn’t get injured and if he keeps a very strong bike like he has now, if he keeps on training like he is training now and with the motivation that he has in racing now,” Lorenzo told the Australian Grand Prix podcast. “He’s very talented and he’s not scared of anything, still. “He has everything. He’s young, talented, ambitious and has a good bike and a good team.” Marquez has beaten Rossi’s early ­career statistics already, with Rossi not winning his first top­-class title until 21 ­years ­old, and Marquez already on course for his second MotoGP crown at that age. commissioner Martin Dolan said he would meet with international experts next week to decide whether the 60,000 square kilometer (23,000 square mile) targeted search area should be extended or shifted farther south based on the new analysis. “We think we may extend that area farther south; that’s the thing we’re currently considering,” Dolan told The Associated Press. The new analysis applies to satellite data from the first of two satellite phone calls Malaysia Airlines ground staff attempted to make to Flight 370’s crew. By the time the calls were attempted, the plane had become invisible to civilian radar. It had flown west without communications past Sumatra and beyond the range of Malaysian military radar. Dolan said the new analysis suggested the jet was already flying south when the first phone call was attempted less than 20 minutes after the plane dropped off military radar. “Previously, there was the possibility that it could have been quite a bit later, so we had to do our modeling based on a range of possibilities as to where the aircraft turned,” Dolan said. “We’re now more confident that it turned comparatively early. That does make a difference to how we prioritize the search along the 7th arc,” he added, referring to the 60,000 square kilometer (23,000 square mile) area where satellite information from a jet engine transmitter suggests the plane ran out of fuel and crashed. The current search area covers a swath of ocean 700 kilometers (435 miles) long and 80 kilometers (50 miles) wide. An initial search of 850 square kilometers (330 square miles) of seabed to the north ended with officials concluding that they were focusing their efforts in the wrong place. Truss and Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai signed an agreement Thursday sharing the ongoing costs between the two countries as the search progresses to the expensive next phase, which could take up to a year and cost 52 million Australian dollars ($48 million). Until now, each country involved in the search has been bearing its own costs.

Tens of thousands have already lined up to open accounts since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the campaign in his Independence Day speech to the nation on Aug. 15, bank managers said Thursday. Modi urged banks in a recent letter to “try your best to ensure that no one is left without a bank account.” The goal is to sign up 150 million people by 2018. Thai court drops murder case against ex-PM

JAKARTA — Four janitors charged with raping a kindergartner at a prestigious international school in Indonesia retracted their confessions Wednesday, saying they were tortured by police during questioning. They made the retractions on the second day of the closeddoor trials of five custodians at the Jakarta International School, which is facing a storm of controversy following allegations of additional abuse. The school was shaken earlier this year in an unrelated case after news surfaced that William Vahey, an American who taught there from 1992 to 2002, killed himself as the FBI was investigating evidence that he may have sexually abused scores of teenage boys during a 40-year career at 10 international schools across four continents. However, there have been no allegations that he molested any students in Indonesia. Six custodians — five men and a woman — were arrested in April. However, one man committed suicide by drinking bathroom cleanser while in police custody. Their trials began Tuesday at the South Jakarta District Court with

the first male defendant. Patra M. Zen, one of their lawyers, said the defendants insisted Wednesday they were innocent and retracted the confessions they had given investigators, saying they could not withstand the alleged torture. The defendants are Virgiawan Amir, Syahrial, Zainal Abidin and Afrischa Setyani. Setyani, the only woman, is accused of being an accomplice. The first hearing on Tuesday was for the fifth defendant, Agun Iskandar. They could face up to 15 years in jail if found guilty of raping the 6-year-old boy, whose parents are seeking $125 million in compensation from the school. Since the case of the janitors surfaced, two other families of young male students have come forward, leading to the arrests in July of Canadian school administrator Neil Bantleman and Indonesia teaching assistant Ferdinant Tjiong. A campaign on social media has called for the release of the staff members, who have denied the allegations. The school is attended by the children of foreign diplomats, businesspeople and Indonesia’s elite. It has 2,400 students aged 3 to 18 from about 60 different countries.

Indonesia, Australia sign deal to end spying row

NUSA DUA - Indonesia and Australia on Thursday signed an agreement aimed at drawing a line under a damaging espionage row and paving the way for the resumption of full cooperation on issues such as defence. Ties between the neighbours sank to their lowest point in years in November after reports that Australian spies tried to tap the phones of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his inner circle. Jakarta recalled its ambassador from Canberra and suspended cooperation in several areas over the incident, including efforts to stop people-smuggling boats reaching Australia. Yudhoyono called for a code of conduct to govern behaviour and, after months of talks on the issue, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and her Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa on Thursday signed an agreement. With Yudhoyono looking on, the pair inked the deal, named the “Joint Understanding on a Code of Conduct between the Republic of Indonesia and Australia”, at a ceremony on the Indonesian resort island of Bali. In the agreement, Indonesia and Australia pledge to not use their intelligence agencies to harm one another and to increase cooperation at a time fears are growing about the threat posed by home-grown Islamic militants returning from Middle East conflicts.

“We are back to where we should have been in terms of IndonesiaAustralia relations,” Natalegawa said, adding that he believed cooperation would be “even more enhanced in the future in front of us”. Bishop said: “Despite some recent challenges in our relationship -- as there can be between neighbours, even strategic partners as close as Australia and Indonesia -- we have proven that our two countries can keep working together across the board.” She added the agreement was “the most effective way to defeat those who would do harm to the people of Australia and Indonesia”. Both countries have expressed alarm that home-grown extremists are heading in increasing numbers to fight with violent groups such as the Islamic State overseas, and have stepped up counter terrorism efforts. Yudhoyono said he hoped relations would be strengthened by the accord: “I am hoping, personally, that we could go back to our strong relations and effective cooperation.”

Allegations that Australian spies tried to tap the phones of Yudhoyono, his wife and several top officials in 2009 sparked one of the worst diplomatic crises between the two strategic allies in years. Reports at the time said that Australia’s electronic intelligence agency tracked Yudhoyono’s activity on his mobile phone for 15 days in August 2009, when Labor’s Kevin Rudd was prime minister. The list of tracking targets also included his wife Ani, the foreign affairs spokesman, the security minister and the information minister. Jakarta responded furiously to the reports, which were based on documents leaked by US intelligence fugitive Edward Snowden, by suspending bilateral cooperation in key areas. Ties were further strained by Australia’s policy of pushing people-smuggling boats carrying asylum-seekers back to Indonesia. WASHINGTON - The US Congressional Budget Office raised its forecast for the US fiscal deficit this year on Wednesday, but said it would still be much lower than last year’s. The CBO also reiterated its medium-term view that the US deficit will begin accelerating at the end of this decade, gaining size in real terms and as a percentage of gross domestic product. The agency’s new estimate for the deficit for the year ending September 30 is $506 billion, out of a $3.5 trillion budget, slightly higher than the $492 billion in its April estimate. The CBO said lower-than-expected tax payments by businesses forced it to cut its forecast for total government receipts. Even so, the total deficit would be $174 billion less than last year’s, and come in at 2.9 percent of GDP, down from almost 10 percent in fiscal 2009, when the crisis-period deficit hit $1.4 trillion. That trend was projected to continue over the next three years as the impact of the 2008-2009 Great Recession ebbs, with businesses boosting investment and consumers spending more. Even so, the persistent deficit will continue to push US debt to higher levels, the CBO forecasted. Total debt held by the public would rise from 72.0 percent of GDP last year to 74.4 percent this year, and continue to push to more than 77 percent in 2024, when the annual deficit would again approach $1 trillion, on a $4.9 trillion budget. That rise would come with the rapid increase in Social Security and government medical insurance payments required by an aging population. The surge in debt needed to finance the deficit over the longer term “would have serious negative consequences,” the CBO said, including higher costs for debt service, slower economic growth, and, eventually, an increase in the risk of another fiscal crisis.

The regulation also specified the land plotting for the construction of housing complex and settlement in Tabanan County where the land plotting should be made at least on an area of 0.60 hectares. SINGARAJA - Residents of Ambengan hamlet, Banjar village, Banjar subdistrict, were suddenly excited. They found two human skulls in a plot of land belonging to a resident who was building a villa. The findings were reported to local police station for further investigation. As information collected in the field on Wednesday (Aug 27), the two skulls, skeletons and jaw remaining to contain human teeth were found in two days successively. At first, a skull was found on

Saturday (Aug 23). On the following day, Sunday (Aug 24), it was then found another human skull. The finding of human skull began when construction workers were building villas. Previously,

this land was owned by Putu Suardana, a local resident, spreading across an area of approximately 0.20 hectares. The land had been sold to a foreigner from Australia, Mr. Asley, for building a villa. When digging the land for a swimming pool, the workers found an object resembling to a small jug made of clay. Finding of the object did not make the workers suspicious, so that they kept digging. When the excavation reached a depth of about two meters, they

found two human skulls. Condition of the human skulls when found had shattered, while their jaws were still intact. In addition, they also found about 30 human bone fragments. Definitely the findings made the workers shocked. Not long after, the information on the finding of human skulls spread and residents thronged to visit the excavation site. He said the results of examination against witnesses as well as testimony of the administrative and customary village officials indicated if the land where the foreigner built the villas was formerly used to bury people dying from hazardous disease in 1950 to 1960. Referring to above description, his party concluded if the findings of human skulls and bone fragments originated from the human bodies buried at that time. “Well, it is true there is a finding of human skulls and bone fragments. We’ve witnessed and asked for an explanation to administrative and customary village officers. The land from that location to the radius of Segara Temple was often used to bury the bodies of residents suffering hazardous diseases like leprosy. So, we come to conclusion if the skulls belong to the bodies buried in the past,” he said. Following the findings of two human skulls and bones, added Hendrik, the village officials agreed to hold a ritual for the human skull and bones pursuant to tradition of Banjar hamlet. While waiting for an auspicious day, the human skulls and bones were left at the site of finding and guarded by police. “The officials of administrative and customary village have agreed to organize a ritual according to local tradition. DENPASAR - Denpasar Police made a raid to a boarding house on Jalan Gunung Lumut, West Denpasar, Monday (Aug 25). At the scene, police secured a book modified into a safe containing 8 packages of crystal meth weighing 151.35 grams, 62 ecstasy pills, two packages of heroin weighing 6.68 grams and a package of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) or ecstasy powder weighing 20.33 grams. Related to the case, police arrested the suspects identified as DA, 35, and JS, 30. “The suspects (DA and JS) alleged to be drug dealers also mixed ecstasy alone. However, we are still making further investigation and

The suspect JS is a recidivist belonging to the same syndicate as DA,” said Chief of Denpasar Police, Djoko Hariutomo, accompanied by Chief of Narcotics Unit Gede Ganefo, Wednesday (Aug 27). Initially police raided the boarding house of the suspect DA on Monday (Aug 25) approximately at one o’clock in the afternoon. Disclosure of this case began after the officers got information if drug transaction often occurred at the scene. From the hand of suspect from Jakarta, police secured a package of crystal meth. “Afterward, police officers did a

On Wednesday (Aug 20) at 2:30 p.m., it was the turn for the suspect TMY, 36, and JJ, 41, to be arrested. They were arrested while in the Daihatsu Xenia vehicle on Jalan Teuku Umar Barat, Denpasar. Under the driver’s seat was found 5.31 grams of crystal meth. In addition, around 6:00 p.m., the Denpasar Police Narcotics Unit arrested BPS, 32, because the suspect was caught carrying two packages of marijuana weighing 0.64 gram and 8.21 grams. AUSTIN — At the age of 9, Isabella Rose Taylor — a painter since she was 3 — took a weeklong sewing class with an eye toward incorporating textiles into her artwork. She quickly discovered a love for fashion design as well, taking the class twice more that summer. Now, at 13, her line is debuting at Nordstrom stores this fall and she’s set to hold her first show at New York Fashion Week. “It just started out as a really fun hobby and it grew into a business over the years,” Taylor said at her Austin, Texas, home, where she’s converted one room into a studio and another into an office. She added, “I just really fell in love with it the way I fell in love with art, and I realized that I just had so much fun connecting the two.” With inspiration from an abstract mixed media painting she did when she was younger that includes reds, grays, blues, mustard yellow and neutral earthy tones, Taylor created a fall line with a “street grunge vibe” and “modern hippie” inspiration. “It all started with the colors of the painting for me,” Taylor said. Jennifer Jackson Brown, a corporate merchandise manager for Nordstrom, said Taylor’s line was a good fit for their juniors section. She said that at the same time she was contacted by Taylor’s camp, her team had been trying to track Taylor down after seeing her on a television appearance. “What we really liked about her is that she is actually the age of customer so there’s that relatability factor that she has,” Jackson Brown said. Taylor’s fall collection includes “shorties,” high-waisted shorts made of a soft knit that can be paired with leggings and boots. UNAOC promotes youth role as world’s agents of change

The UNAOC Youth Event was inaugurated by High Representative of the UNAOC Nassir Abdulaziz AlNasser and Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawa on Thursday at the Bali Nusa Dua

Convention Center (BNDCC) on Thursday. As many as 100 youth aged between 18 and 30 years from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds were selected from around three thousand applicants from across the world. Of the total, 40 are international participants and 60 are Indonesians. During his opening remark, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser noted that although the youth were in majority, yet their contributions had yet to be fully recognized.

“You are what the world needs. But, the world sometimes does not recognize the role you are playing in the society,” Al-Nasser affirmed. The topic of the Youth Event focused on “The Role of Youth in Promoting ‘Unity in Diversity’ through Education, Media, and Migration.” The Youth Event will be outputoriented and will focus on collective reflection rather than on presentations of individual projects implemented by youth organizations at the event. In addition, it will help youth establish contacts and actively

exchange and explore how they can collaborate together, before and after the forum. Bali News TABANAN - Responding to road damage complained by residents of Nyambu village, the Regent of Tabanan, Ni Putu Eka Wiryastuti, visited and saw in person the damaged road at the village, Wednesday (Aug 27). Headman of Nyambu, Putu Sumarbawa, on the occasion hoped the damaged road could be repaired. Eka promised to repair the damaged road at Nyambu village along 4.6 kilometers. Funding for the road repair sourced from the province. She continued that the damaged road was one of the main problems in Tabanan. Surely the damaged roads would require a large amount of funds. “Hot mix asphalt pavement along one kilometer requires the fund worth IDR 1 billion,” she said. Meanwhile, the revenue of Tabanan County amounted

to IDR 65 billion. Eka hoped that people could wait because the revenue of Tabanan alone was insufficient to repair the whole damaged roads in Tabanan so that it was undertaken in stages. On that account, she invited the residents of Tabanan to participate in the development of their village. Participation of Tabanan community in improving their road could be seen from the road along 700 meters having been repaired with independent fund collected from the community as well as 140 meters of road funded with rural infrastructure improvement and empowerment program (PPIP). However, police will make socialization first related to the hazards of the mushroom. “The mushroom belongs to the first class narcotic as set forth in the Narcotic Law No. 35/2009 in the Appendix Number 46. MANGUPURA - Entrepreneurs of water sports in Tanjung Benoa, South Kuta, started to take real action to reject the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. The organization of water sport entrepreneurs in what the so-called the Alliance of the Tanjung Benoa Water Sports Entrepreneurs, started to put up billboards containing the rejection against the reclamation in front of their business premises, at Tanjung Benoa, Wednesday (Aug 27). Installation of that billboard started around 4:00 p.m. The installation began from the area of Bayu Sutha Water Sport on Jalan Pratama, Tanjung Benoa, and then was followed by BMR Water Sport and other places. While installing billboards, dozens of people coalesced into the action shouted the rejection against the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. Chairman of the Alliance of the Tanjung Benoa Water Sports Entrepreneurs, Nyoman Karjaya, revealed that a total of 18 of 20 water sport businesses at Tanjung Benoa had joined the alliance and agreed to reject the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. The 18 businesses included the Pandawa, BMR, Bayu Sutha, Siwa Sempurna, Mawar Kuning,

Bali Dolphin, NBC, Bali Indah, Sea-Track, Mekar Sari, Kanaka, Water Mark, Bali Pacific, Batara, Wibisana, Jet- set, Zooka and the North Coast. According to him, the movement posed the beginning of a struggle to reject the reclamation plan. Through the movement, his party hoped the new government led by Jokowi would be willing to hear the people’s aspirations. “It is the beginning of our movement. This alliance will strive to reject reclamation. Hopefully, Jokowi and the new government would be willing to hear people’s aspirations. Besides, we also appeal to the President SBY to revoke the Presidential Decree No. 51/2014,”

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Kevin Spacey to sing in Washington concert Associated Press

NEW YORK — He has lied, cheated and killed, but “House of Cards” President Frank Underwood isn’t done yet. Next he’s going to sing. Two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey will take time out from filming the third season of the Netflix hit series to show off his vocal talents at a one-night-only gala concert Sept. 29 at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C. The concert will benefit scholarships and grants for emerging artists. Spacey, who played singer Bobby Darin in “Beyond the Sea,” promises some Billy Joel songs, some Simon & Garfunkel, a bit of Sinatra, plenty of swing, a few stories and a surprise guest or two, all backed by a 40-piece orchestra. “You never know what I might come up with,” he said. Tickets, still available, are $104. Proceeds from the show will help fund the Kevin Spacey Foundation, which recently chose Pace University in New York to be the first institution of higher education in the United States to receive its scholarships and funding support.

Five incoming Pace students who received the first U.S. scholarships will start this fall and 10 others will receive funds to support travel expenses to perform abroad. Spacey’s foundation, with $500,000 in scholarships and $200,000 in grants, also helps students at Regent’s University London. “We’re hoping to expand these scholarships in lots of universities and drama schools around the country. Our intention is to continue to grow and expand our reach,” Spacey said. “In large measure it’s because I’m a recipient of these kinds of things.”

Spacey, who won Oscars for the movies “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty,” was also the star of “Pay It Forward,” and the Juilliard-trained actor said he remembers as a middle-class student struggling to pay tuition. “I was on a couple of scholarships. I had a job in the school administrative office. I had a job as a hat-check boy in a restaurant. I had another job as an assistant to a casting director. It took a lot to get myself enough money to put myself through Juilliard,” he said. “I know how difficult it can be. VENICE - The Venice film festival opened with a bang on Wednesday with a brilliant superhero dark comedy that delves into the cinema and theatre worlds to explore the drug that is fame. The first flick to compete at the world’s oldest film festival, Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance”, stars Michael Keaton of “Beetlejuice” and “Batman” fame.

In one of 20 films vying for the coveted Golden Lion award, Keaton plays a washed-up actor who was once famous for playing the “Birdman” superhero but is now struggling to stage a Broadway play in a bid to regain his former glory. Unlike his Don Quixote-style character here, Keaton said he was not haunted by his “Batman” films -- but that everyone is by their own personal “Birdman”. “I love the idea of Birdman following you around. You all got a Birdman in your life, it’s your negative ego, so you either make peace with him or kick his arse or make him sit in the back seat, but you have to drive a car,” he said. The film pokes fun at both actors and critics, such as the tweed-wearing interviewer who references philosopher Roland Barthes, or one of the actresses who asks her co-star “Why don’t I have any self respect?”, to which the reply is: “Because you’re an actress, honey.” Crowd-pleaser Gonzalez Inarritu, best known for his films “21 Grams” and “Babel”, brought on board other superhero veterans for the movie, including Emma Stone from “The Amazing Spiderman” and Edward Norton, star of “The Incredible Hulk”. “After so many films, dramatic films that in a way has a lot of enfrijoladas, enchiladas, and spicy mexican chilli, I wanted a little dessert!” Gonzalez Inarritu told a press conference on Venice’s Lido island.
