Muse’s ‘Survival’ is London 2012 Olympics song Associated Press Writer

LONDON — The British rock trio Muse has the official song for the 2012 London Games. The song, “Survival,” is a thundering rock anthem that was being broadcast for the first time Wednesday on BBC radio. It will be played during the July 27-Aug. 12 games as athletes enter the venues and before medal ceremonies. Muse frontman Matt Bellamy says the song was written with the Olympics in mind and “expresses a sense of conviction and determination to win.” Muse was formed in 1994 and has sold 15 million copies of five studio albums. Last month the trio carried the Olympic torch through their hometown of Teignmouth

in southwest England as part of the flame’s 8,000-mile (12,900-kilometer) journey to the games. Four other songs have been specially composed for the games, and recorded by Elton John vs. Pnau, Delphic, Chemical Brothers and Dizzee Rascal. They are due for release between July 16 and Aug. 6.

Thriller and her brother Sabu were born on Nov. 20, 1998, and lived with Jackson until May 4, 2006, Hedren said. When Jackson left Neverland for good, his veterinarian asked Hedren to take the cats at her Shambala Preserve in Acton, about 50 miles north of Los Angeles. Other Neverland animals, including giraffes, flamingos, orangutans, elephants and dozens of reptiles, were sent to other sanctuaries in other parts of the country. Shambala didn’t have a lot of room, but Hedren built a $79,000 habitat next to the preserve’s lake and there were trees and a hill and Thriller had a great life with Sabu, she said. “Thriller was a real piece of work, one gutsy girl. She ruled Sabu’s life. It was humorous to watch the whole relationship. She did things to him that male tigers would normally never allow. She would steal food from him. That’s unheard of. She ruled the roost, was very independent and tough,” Hedren said. Unlike many of the animals at the preserve, Thriller and Sabu arrived at the compound in excellent health physically and emotionally, Hedren said. There are 15 tigers at the compound, but Sabu is now alone in the habitat he shared with Thriller and he’ll probably stay that way, Hedren said. Tigers are loners in the wild, she explained.

DENPASAR - Surge in the arrival of foreign tourists to Bali did not have much impact on the visit to the water sport attractions. Such sluggish visit rate was alleged to have been caused by diversion of tourist visit. Wayan Dharma, an owner of water sport business in the region, acknowledged the arrival of foreign tourists to enjoy the water sport attractions such as snorkeling, parasailing, banana boat and other sports had decreased 30 percent. Even, the number was steadily declining. “We do not know for sure why this condition occurs. Probably, the decrease was caused by the transfer of visit by foreign tourists,” said Wayan Dharma. He said, the arrival of foreign tourists to the object was just a visit and did not take any water sports activities. “Those who come here were just having an excursion, not taking any attraction of the water sport,” said the man who also served as the board of the Indonesian Marine Tourism Association (Gahawisri) of Bali. Meanwhile, related to accidents afflicting tourists during taking the water sports, Wayan Dharma stated that accident was not the cause of decline in the tourist visit. At the moment, the standard of safety and security had been very good. “Even, the accident has been getting rarer and even zero,” he said. Decline in foreign tourists who took water sport activities was an anomalous phenomenon whereas the number of foreign tourists visiting Bali increased. Nevertheless, the decline in foreign tourist was slightly boosted by domestic tourists showing a slight increase. “There is a slight increase in domestic tourist visit during this school holiday. But, overall the number remains stagnant,” he said. To re-boost the number of foreign tourist visit to Tanjung Benoa, the perpetrators of water sport industry would be going to perform an overseas promotion. “We from the industry under the Gahawisri will soon conduct a campaign to Hong Kong with about 20 people in next December,” he said.

High rise building at Pebuahan demolished Negara (Bali Post) –

The building had no building permit built on the lines of relax sit restaurants (warung lesehan) of barbequed fish

Lobster famine season in the waters of Tabanan is believed to end soon. Next month, the great harvest season is predicted to begin. Ahead of the harvest season, a number of fishermen on Pasut Beach, Tibubiu village, Kerambitan, held a blessing ceremony for their boat on Wednesday (Jun 27). Such an activity was to invoke blessings of salvation after going to sea. A figure of local fishermen, Ketut Arsana Yasa (Sadam), said the ceremony posed a regular tradition after going to sea. Having been safe, fishermen always made a small ritual for their boat. “It is an expression of thanksgiving,” he said last Wednesday. The ceremony involved local priest and boat owners. According to Sadam, the ceremony before the great harvest would also be specifically held on the upcoming full moon. After that, he said, fishermen would simultaneously come down to sea. “The great harvest is about to begin,” he said. During the harvest sea-

son, it was expected the sea waves would be friendly. On that account, fishermen could enjoy the lobster harvest season during next July-August. He added that within the past few weeks local fishermen chose to take day-off. Such decision was triggered by hazard waves and decline in lobster catches. Due to losing out, fishermen preferred to take a day-off. “Now, we prepare the boat as well as fishing tools,” he said. More happily, ahead of the great harvest, the price of lobster started rising. Price of this commodity had reached over IDR 200,000 per

kilogram. Earlier, the price only touched IDR 150,000 per kilogram. At the moment, Sadam said the movement of lobster would range from Pasut to Selabih Beach. On that account, farmers would focus to sail around the region. Last Wednesday, a number of fishermen dared to go down to sea and set up lobster traps or bubu. During the harvest season, fishermen could catch at least 3 kilograms of lobster per day. If the price was high, fishermen could cover the operating costs of going to sea and earn a profit. (kmb30)

Few years ago, drug syringe was the highest risk factor transmitting HIV/AIDS in Bali. At that time, the Methadone Clinic established in 2003 intensely suppressed the rate of transmission through drug syringe by providing therapy and treatment for heroin users consuming such hazardous substance through a syringe. Having run for nine years, the Methadone Clinic in Sanglah Hospital could have cured 16 percent of patient with addiction and the amount of risk factor of HIV/AIDS through drug syringe could have been suppressed. The Head of Methadone Clinic in Sanglah Hospital, Nyoman Hanati, explained that at first the patients getting treatment in Methadone Clinic should meet requirements where no other therapies could overcome their addiction and they had used heroin for a year. “With the rising cases of HIV due to drug syringe risk factor, the term of one year was shortened to six months. In the long run, this program could slow down the transmission of HIV/AIDS through drugs syringe. Now, the drug syringe no longer becomes the highest risk factor,” said Hanati. Today, the risk factor of HIV/ AIDS through heterosexual intercourse approximately reached 73.22 percent, while through Injection Drug Users (IDU) or drug syringe approximately reached 14.08 percent. Methadone therapy was a therapeutic drug administration whose dosage was progressively reduced until the patients were able to escape from the drug addiction. Administration of the drug was carried out through oral. Such method, added Hanati, was conducted in order that patients could gradually escape from the addiction and

the desire to do the injection through a syringe. “HIV transmission happens because they use non-sterile syringe and do it in turns. We also attempt to diminish this matter,” said Hanati. However, treatment for patients with drug addiction, added Hanati, was not just by treating their addiction. Before initiating the therapy with drug, the source of disease of the addicted patients should be treated first. “For drug addicted patients, the disease lies in the brain. They mostly live through a disorder process in their brain. It will be more difficult if they have a mental disorder. The ‘disease’ existing in the brain must be addressed first,” explained Hanati. Healing process of brain disorder was usually performed in psychiatric therapy because most patients experienced depression, hallucination, obsession and other mental disorders. If the cerebral process had been good, the healing process for their addiction would definitely be more quickly. Currently, the Methadone Clinic in Sanglah Hospital received approximately 60-70 patient visits. Based on the data within the first six months of 2012, the monthly average visit in January approximately reached 73 patients including four new patients, 69 patients with a new patient in February, 57 patients with three new patients in March, 59 patients with a new patient in April and respectively 61 and 66 patients with two and three additional new patients in May and June. Among the patients undergoing therapy and screening in the Methadone Clinic, approximately 10.4 percent were exposed to hepatitis B; 93.83 percent to hepatitis C and 54.03 percent to HIV/AIDS. Meanwhile, a total of 16 percent of patients treated in Methadone Clinic since 2003 could recover from the addiction. (san)

Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

PHILADELPHIA — Occupy Wall Street went after them and now, too, a mismatched pair of heroes are doing the same. Whereas the so-called One Percent is blamed for having a majority of wealth at the expense of the other 99 percent, in Valiant Comics’ upcoming “Archer & Armstrong,” it’s a secretive and sinister cabal of money managers and financiers willing to sacrifice more than jobs for profit — human lives, too — to steer the fate of the world for their own gain. Archer and Armstrong — an ancient immortal and a home-schooled, combat-trained teenager acting as a fist of God — find themselves at the cabal’s mercy deep under Wall Street in ancient crypt where they find out about a plot to stabilize the euro — and boost profits — by destroying Greece. Writer Fred Van Lente said “The One Percent” makes its first appearance in the final page of the first issue of “Armstrong & Archer,” which is in comic shops Aug. 8, followed by the second issue out Sept. 5. “American comics have a long tradition of ripping social issues from the headlines so the heroes can punch them in the face,” Van Lente said of the title that is illustrated by Clayton Henry. “Superman went after lynch mobs and war profiteers in his first adventure in 1938, so ‘Archer & Armstrong’ is much in the same vein.” The team, who previously worked together on Marvel’s “Incredible Hercules,” said the story line is taut and brisk, but imbued with a subtle sense of humor, sarcasm and a nod to conspiracy theories no matter how outlandish they may seem. “What we’re really trying to do is make fun of the hyper-polarized world we live in, which is reflected in our leads, one of whom is this cloistered martial artist and the other a hedonistic strongman,” said Van Lente. “It’s not your traditional superhero comic, although I’m pretty sure Armstrong could pound the stuffing out of most mainstream superheroes and villains,” said Henry of the odd couple team. Archer is an immortal with a proclivity for inebriation and Archer is “highly-trained, well-intentioned, brainwashed, naive teenager who is on a mission ordained by God,” said Henry. “They team up, but Armstrong also spends a lot of time showing Archer that the world is lot different than what he was raised to believe,” he added.

Thomas Edison didn’t just have telegraphs and light bulbs on his mind — the U.S. innovator marketed an electric car battery in the early 20th century. The same nickel-iron battery technology could soon make its return as a fast-charging power source for the 21st century. The modern makeover of Edison’s battery can fully charge in about 2 minutes and dump its energy load in less than 30 seconds — about 1,000 times faster compared with the original. Existing prototypes can only hold enough power for a flashlight, but Stanford University hope to scale up the fastcharging battery to make Edison’s dream competitive once more in electric cars. “The Edison battery is very durable, but it has a number of drawbacks,” said Hongjie Dai, a professor of chemistry at Stanford

University. “A typical battery can take hours to charge, and the rate of discharge is also very slow.” Edison’s battery got its needed boost in charging speed with the help of nanotechnology. Researchers bonded the battery’s metal particles with carbon nanomaterials — graphene (sheets of carbon just 1-atom thick) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes — that can increase electrical conductivity. “Our battery probably won’t be able to power an electric car by itself because the energy density is not ideal,” said Hailiang Wang,

a graduate student at Stanford University and lead author on the group’s new paper. “But it could assist lithium-ion batteries by giving them a real power boost for faster acceleration and regenerative braking.” Edison first unveiled the nickeliron battery around 1900 as a cheap alternative to lead-acid batteries with long life and reliability. The battery only saw use in early electric cars until 1920, but it became a popular backup power source for the railroad and mining industries until the mid-20th century.

This woman said that harvesting red rice was not as easy as harvesting regular rice. Farmers had to use rice cutter to cut the rice grain. If the stem was still wet, it was feared of triggering decay. Aside from inhibiting the process of harvesting, the rain also disturbed farmers to dry out the grain of brown rice. Typically, farmers dried out their grain in paddy field by using a tarp. If it rained, the grain would be covered up. It took them longer time to dry up the grain. If the weather was hot, the grain could be dried up in three to four days. “If it rains, it will take me more than a week,” said Rati. Today, the price of brown rice started rising from IDR

4,000 to IDR 5,000 per kilogram. She said that farmers were not difficult to look for a buyer because many collectors coming during the harvest season. This year, said Rati, her harvest yield was also maximal. She could produce 17 quintals per 100 square meters. The harvested grain was tied and then dried up traditionally. Such a way, she said, had become a tradition through generations. Complaint about the weather was also revealed by another farmer, Semarajaya. He said the harvest could not run smoothly due to constraint of rain. Moreover, it rained erratically, sometimes in early morning or late afternoon. As a result, farmers had to wait for warm weather to harvest. “We must be clever to set the time for harvest so as not to be showered by rain,” he said. After collapsing, left unrepaired for four years Road access to Yeh Pulu relief at Bedulu village, Blahbatuh subdistrict, is in apprehensive condition. The road of one-meter width leading to the relief attraction has been eroded by water and collapsed. Ironically, it is broken at four points, but has not been repaired so far. Based on observation and information compiled on Wednesday (Jun 27), it was admitted if the road had been damaged for a long time, namely since three to four years ago. Such damage happened because triggered by the collapse of existing revetment on the creek located on the west side of the road.

As consequence, the pathway to the object then collapsed. Indeed, the damage did not cut off the road. It is clarified that Denpasar City Council did place these schools as a priority and in this year’s Bali Budget and Expenses, the City Council have allocated IDR 17.5 billion with details IDR 215 million for medium and heavy rehabilitation for elementary schools and IDR 16.2 billion to build schools for 5 junior high and 34 elementary schools. Besides that another IDR 500 million for medium and heavy rehabilitation for mid schools were allocated for sanitation at SMAN 5 Denapsar also IDR 661 million for constructing a building at SMKN 2 Denpasar. “For the rehab of all 117 heavily damaged schools needs IDR 119 billion,” Merta clarified. A Right Place to Ask for Knowledge Dalem Ped Temple has been famous and venerated as well as sanctified by the community of Nusa Penida. Moreover, those who glorify knowledge (kewisesan) will surely know the temple which is also called as Penataran Agung. Due to request of the subject and his father, Ngurah Batuan was made a king. Such appointment made Ngurah Mecaling uneasy, hatred and jealousy, so that he fled to Tegenungan Hamlet. There, he deepened his spiritual knowledge by doing

penance and finally acquired a blessing from Goddess Durga. Being proud of his supernatural power, Ngurah Mecaling then challenged and fought against Ngurah Batuan. In the struggle, Ngurah Mecaling was defeated. Ultimately, he left Batuan and departed to an island on the southeast of Bali known as Nusa Penida. There, Ngurah Mecaling who was accompanied by some guards and faithful people did a penance on the peak of Mount Giri Putri at Batukandik Village. He got a ‘license to kill and prey on the guilty man’ on the Island of Bali during the sixth to the mid of eight month in Balinese calendar (Dec-Jan). Then, he received an approval from the King Waturenggong where if the royal kulkul or wooden split drum sounded loudly, Ngurah Mecaling along with his followers was allowed to carry out grandiose debauchery against the guilty men. If such behavior was persistently allowed, it could become a disaster for the kingdom. In response to such condition, Waturenggong gave a mandate to Danghyang Nirartha and

Arya Sentong to stop his bad habit. As consequence, it kindled a silent war among them. Apparently, their supernatural power was balanced, so no one lost out and won. However, in the midst of the struggle, the daughter of I Gusti Ngurah Mecaling fell in love with Arya Sentong. It raised a question in him. Having been described by Danghyang Nirartha that Arya Sentong and his daughter indeed had a close relationship in the previous life, I Gusti Ngurah Mecaling realized if it was time for him to come back to Sunya Loka (heaven). Prior to leaving, he handed over all his supernatural powers and his daughter to Arya Sentong. Up to these days, it has become a myth that when the wooden split bell sounded loudly it indicated a plague spread at a village. At first, it only applied to East and Central Bali, but due to diffusion process of the story (mythology), it then even spread to other regions. On that account, most Balinese people venerated Ratu Gde Nusa (Dalem Ped) on Kajeng Kliwon (falling every 15 days) to beg salvation.

Dharmika said, so far the deity in the Dalem Ped Temple really put himself into function as a rwa bhineda, black and white and the essence of life. He had compassionate, generous and very sacred qualities. For those who wanted to invoke blessing, promotion in career, health and knowledge, he always gave them. On the other hand, if there were devotees who invoked supernatural power and knowledge, he would also meet them. However, whatever given by him should be implemented consequently. Otherwise, he would take decisive and severe action against the violators. In this case, Ratu Gde Nusa had about 500 wong samar (invisible beings) to maintain the security of the temple and its surroundings. “When we do wrong and are not in accordance with the applicable norms, such invisible beings will take decisive action. MEXICO CITY — Four days before Mexico’s presidential election, much of the nation’s attention is focused on a man who appears certain to lose. That man is Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the fiery, feisty leftist who shut down the heart of Mexico City after the last election with massive protests against a narrow loss that he blamed on electoral fraud. Lopez Obrador drew hundreds of thousands back downtown Wednesday night for a massive end-of-campaign rally to hail what he called his imminent victory. The only problem is that final polls released Wednesday show Lopez Obrador well in second place, with the candidate of Mexico’s former ruling party, Enrique Pena Nieto, anywhere from 8 to 17 percentage points in the lead. As a result, few expect anything other than a Pena Nieto victory that will return the Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, to the presidency after 12 years out of the nation’s highest office. What remains in doubt for

millions of Mexicans is whether Lopez Obrador will quietly accept defeat? Or will he call his followers back to the streets for a repeat of the 2006 protests that shut down the capital’s center for six weeks and shook the faith of many, at home and abroad, in the stability of Mexico’s young democracy? In that election race, Lopez Obrador led until the final days and his backers could not believe the official result showing him less than 1 percentage point short of victor Felipe Calderon, though electoral courts upheld it. Rescue workers removed two bodies from a collapsed shopping mall in the northern Ontario town of Elliot Lake on Wednesday and said they didn’t believe there was anyone else in the rubble, all but ending a four-day search for survivors. The head of the rescue effort said he was “99 percent” certain no other victims will be found in the debris that rained down on shoppers when a rooftop parking lot collapsed into the two-story mall on Saturday afternoon. “I believe there is nobody else in there,” said Bill Neadles, who led his team through the rescue effort in the former mining town, now a retirement community of about 11,000 people, about 335 miles northwest of Toronto. Police said there are 12 names on a list of people who are unaccounted for in the community, but Neadles said dogs trained to detect both the living and the dead had found no scent of bodies in the wreckage other than the two already located. He expressed optimism the economic growth was still relevant to the assumed economic growth rate of 6.5 percent in the revised 2012 state budget and would not be affected by the lingering European economic crisis. “We hope that the economic growth of 6.5 percent could still be achieved,” he said.

He said the state and fiscal budget remained sound although the average Indonesian crude oil production did not exceed the assumed budget and the global crude price was also declining. He said the government remained optimistic a deficit of state budget would increase at a range of 2.3-2.4 percent. “There have not been significant developments. BENGKULU - Five foreign students from different countries are learning to care for the Sumatran elephants (Elephas maximus sumatrae) at the Seblat Elephant Conservation Centre in North Bengkulu, Bengkulu province. The coordinator of Elephant Conservation Centre (PKG), Erni Suyanti, stated here on Wednesday that the foreign students were part of a wildlife conservation program of Dejavato, a volunteer-based organization in Semarang, Central Java province. “Dejavato recently started the volunteer program for wildlife conservation and PKG Seblat is the only site recommended,” she said. Erni added that the volunteers were from France, Russia, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Belgium. The organization does not recruit students and professionals from abroad only; it also accepts Indonesian volunteers. “In addition to the six foreign students, there are two Indonesian students who want to work and learn together,” Erni said. For seven days in PKG Seblat, the foreign students will study how the elephant tamer, or mahout, takes care of the elephants. They will also assist the mahout in feeding, bathing and other activities revolving around the 19 elephants in PKG Seblat. “They are also taking care of Bona, a two-year-old elephant calf, which is still feeding on milk,” Erni added. The present batch of students is the third since the conservation program began. In July 2012, PKG Seblat will receive the next group of volunteers. In addition to learning how to care for elephants, the foreign students also provide foreign language courses for PKG Seblat staff. Erni said such courses would particularly benefit the forest police and PKG Seblat mahout. “We are targeting this area as one of the ecotourism areas in Bengkulu, so foreign language skills will be necessary for the mahout and forest police,” she added. The present batch of the foreign students would also indirectly promote PKG Seblat as a conservation area for endangered wildlife. After they return to their respective countries, they will prepare a report about conservation programs in Indonesia, including the one in PKG Seblat.

The holders clinched a place in Sunday’s title decider against Germany or Italy in part thanks to a Casillas save in the 4-2 penalty shootout win over Portugal on Wednesday and he said Spaniards should enjoy the moment while it lasts. “It’s strange what happens in life sometimes,” the 31-year-old known as “Saint Iker” told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. “However badly things are going for the country in terms of the crisis and all that, football has been a kind of oasis that has allowed people to forget everything a little bit,” he added. Spain has suffered from soaring borrowing costs amidst a debt crisis and economic downturn that has hit much of Europe. “Football has been a source of joy and we are happy and excited about that and we want people to make the most of it as it will be difficult to repeat,” added Casillas.
