Year End’s note for trade for economy and trade
2012 will not be an easy year THE economic development of Bali in 2011 which reach 6.54% is exceeding the target of 6.36%. The achievement is very surprising and it is above the national average which is 6.5%. However, the positive development is predicted will not happen in 2012. This is because next year will not be an easy year for the island. The economic development of Bali is supported by hotels and restaurant business which contributed 32%, followed by
transportation and service sector with 25%. However, the farming sector only grows 19%. While from the demand, Bali economic is supported by the consumption sector followed by investment. This year’s achievement in the macro economics is very good and need to be maintained. “However, next year will not be an easy year for Bali. The export pressure for Bali is getting bigger and it will continue until next year. We predicted that the
economy in Bali will grow around 6% through 6.3%,” said the Head of Indonesian Bank branch Denpasar, Jeffrey Kairupan. He said that the decrease of the economic development is due to the global financial crisis and it will highly affect the export. However, Bali is very fortunate because most of Bali’s export is not the primary product. “In the inflation level, Bali is still on the level of 5% or 1% higher than 2011. Next year, there will be
also the pressure from administered prices which are the increase in electrical fee, cigarette taxes and the price of fuel,” Jeffrey explained. Even it is predicted to be very hard but the banking sector in Bali is very optimist next year. The credit will develop especially for the small and middle class industry. Coastal abrasion at Pebuahan Hamlet, Banyubiru Village, Negara Subdistrict, increasingly expanded. Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Presidential spokesman Julian Adrin Pasa said on Tuesday that the president has received a report from the National Police chief about the violence in Bima that, according to Human Rights Commission (Komnas Ham), claimed the lives of three civilians.
“Therefore the president has ordered the Police chief to coordinate with Bima police to investigate into the case,” Julian said. According to the presidential spokesman, the investigation was intended to find out if the bloody violence in Bima was provoked by certain party. “If it is true that last Saturday`s clash was masterminded by a particular party, the provocateurs should be arrested and brought to the court,” Julian said. The clash happened when security forces consisting of police and military personnel resorted to force to drive away thousands of local residents who
had been occupying Sape port since December 19 in protest against PT SMN`s presence in the region. The local community had for some time been demanding the revocation of a district administration permit for PT SMN to mine gold in the region but local authorities, including the disrict`s legislative council, had continued to ignore their aspiration. Under a mining operation permit issued by Bima District Chief Ferry Zulkarnaen in 2010, PT SMN had been conducting mining operations on 24,980 hectares of land located in the sub-districts of Lambu, Sape and Langgudu.

He says villagers have threatened to kill the elephants if authorities fail to protect their farms. Only 3,000 Sumatran elephants are believed to remain in the wild. They’re threatened by their shrinking habitat, with jungles being cleared for commercial farming or felled for lumber. The elephants sometimes venture into inhabited areas in search of food.

Mix well for 5 minutes. Tie one end of pork intestines with string. Insert large round nozzle into pastry piping bag and ďŹ ll it with the meat mixture. Place open end of intestine over nozzle of piping bag and ďŹ ll intestine tightly. Tie end with string. Dry sausage for 8 hours on wire rack in oven at very low heat. MUMBAI - Bollywood struck gold in 2011, revving up lacklustre box offices in India with help from its leading men who wooed audiences back to cinemas after a dismal 2010. Domestic revenues hit 19.25 billion rupees ($363.2 million) this year, up from 14.5 billion rupees in 2010, and an unprecedented four films crossed the billion rupee milestone. Two of those blockbusters starred actor Salman Khan. The solid performance contrasted sharply to the previous year when there were hardly any hits. “Audiences and filmmakers have gone back and discovered stories that are close to our Indian roots,” said Sanjeev Lamba, Chief executive of Reliance Entertainment, which produced two of the year’s biggest blockbusters -- “Bodyguard” and “Singham”. “Bodyguard”, in which Khan plays a personal security guard to a rich man’s daughter and ends up falling in love with her, was the most successful Bollywood film, raking in more than 1.5 billion rupees ($28 million) at domestic box offices. “Singham” told the story of a right-minded police officer who stands up to a corrupt politician and was accompanied by romance, drama and high-octane action. Both “Bodyguard” and “Singham” were panned by critics but loved by audiences. And both featured strong
central characters, harkening back to the 1980s and early ‘90s in Bollywood when films were centred on the hero and his defeat of a villain in a battle of good versus evil. “Audiences have always loved the dilemmas of the hero, a little bit of action, some drama and some romance,” Lamba said. “We had a lot of that this year.” Other themes were successful, too. Offbeat films like “The Dirty Picture”, based on the life of a soft-core porn star, proved to be sleeper hits and took industry analysts by surprise. The same problems that plagued “La Vie en Rose,” starring Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf, exist in “The Iron Lady,” a biopic about Margaret Thatcher starring Meryl Streep as the former British prime minister. While both films feature strong performances from strong actresses playing strong, real-life women, the scripts are weakened by going strictly by the numbers. Sure, Streep reliably nails her impression of Thatcher — that swoop of big ‘80s hair, the measured voice, the steely demeanor. Her impeccable ear for accents and detailed mimicry of mannerisms is well-documented at this point — who better to play this role? And there’s fire beneath the reserved exterior: The way she dresses down her deputy during a crowded cabinet meeting, for example, is just withering. But the film from Phyllida Lloyd (who previously directed Streep in the giddy ABBA musical “Mamma Mia!”), based on a script by Abi Morgan (“Shame”), reduces this high-profile life to a greatest-hits collection of historic moments. You just know that if Thatcher is by herself in her lonely, empty home, Denis will pop up to amuse and cajole her, if only in her imagination. It happens so often you can predict it, which erodes its emotional impact and the deep sense of loss it’s meant to convey. “The Iron Lady” focuses more on Maggie the woman and only superficially explores her global political influence; the inclusion of archival footage makes the film feel especially cursory. As it traces her rise from grocer’s daughter and young wife (when she’s played by Alexandra Roach) to titanic, divisive figure, it pays a great deal of lip service to the importance of public service but leaves you feeling dissatisfied. You never truly get a chance to learn what motivated and drove her, especially given the gender gap she had to cross. And the idea that her family relationships suffered as a result of her political aspirations is something that’s hinted at in passing and glossed over, rather than explored. And yet, there is Streep, in an array of prim blue suits and those ever-present pearls. But even the greatest actress of our time can only do so much when the figure she’s playing just isn’t on the page.

Food giant Kraft recently teamed up with Intel to produce the iSample vending machine, capable of studying what kinds of people are buying their goods. The technology comprises an optical sensor fitted at the top of the machine that sends information about the shopper’s face to a computer running software capable of working out the person’s gender and age. The iSample machine being trialed by the two companies does as its name suggests – offers samples of products. In this case, it’s a jelly-based dessert called Temptations, marketed with the strapline “the first Jell-O that’s just for adults.” That’s right, an adult-only jelly-based dessert. Children that attempt to obtain a dessert from the machine will be out of luck. The on-board computer will detect that a non-adult is pressing the buttons and politeley refuse to hand over a sample. This is all going to end in tears, isn’t it. The computer will ‘read’
the adult’s face and place them in one of four age groups before serving the appropriate dessert, though how Kraft have matched age with particular types of jelly dessert isn’t entirely clear. Kraft’s Ed Kaczmarek told the BBC that the company is currently testing out two iSample machines – at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and South Street Seaport in New York. If it’s a success the company hopes to introduce more. Kaczmarek added, “We can do so much more with the iSample program. Tied to specific marketing campaigns,
we can customize the experience in order to reach out to consumers more efficiently.” The smart vending machine could also be used to provide data about which consumers are buying which products, and could prevent the sale of age-restricted goods to children. Intel’s Michelle Tinsley suggested other ways in which the technology could be used. “We can measure dwell time. Doctors in a domed laboratory in Canada are designing a virtual world where they hope to one day treat traumatized children with colorful avatars using toy-like medical gadgets. Three-dimensional images of a child’s bedroom at home could make him forget he is in a hospital. “You could take a child suffering from burns and put him in a polar environment, crossing the threshold of reality, to dull his pain,” said Patrick Dube, who is leading a team of medics from Montreal’s SainteJustine hospital and software engineers at the Society for Arts and Technology. “We know that cognitive illusions have an effect on the perception of pain,” he said. MOSCOW — A Soyuz spacecraft safely delivered a Russian, an American and a Dutchman to the International Space Station on Friday, restoring the permanent crew to six members for the first time since September. But just as concerns over the reliability of the Soyuz have eased, a different version of the Soyuz rocket failed Friday during an unmanned launch. It was the latest in a string of spectacular launch failures that have raised questions about the state of Russia’s space industry. The craft carrying mission commander Oleg Kononenko, NASA’s Don Pettit and European Space Agency astronaut Andre Kuipers had traveled through space for two days after blasting off from Baikonur, the Russian-operated cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The ship docked at the orbiting station at 5:19 p.m. (1319GMT) Friday. About two and half hours later, the three new crew members floated through an opened hatch to join NASA’s Dan Burbank and Russians Anton Shkaplerov and Anatoly Ivanishin, who had arrived on the station in November. “I can’t think of a prettier picture than seeing all six back on board the space station,” NASA’s William Gerstenmaier told the assembled crew during a video linkup with Russian Mission Control outside Moscow. Families of crew members, who had joined space officials to watch the docking, also sent their greetings, with Kuipers’ young child singing him a song in Dutch. The six crew members will work together on the International Space Station until mid-March. The failed launch of an unmanned Progress cargo ship in August had raised doubts about future missions to the station, because the Soyuz rocket that crashed used the same upper stage as the booster rockets carrying Soyuz ships to orbit. The next manned launch was delayed until Russian space officials could determine the cause of the Progress failure and it went off without a
hitch in November. The crew on that mission overlapped for eight days with the three crew members remaining on the station, who then returned to Earth later that month. However, on Friday, a newer version of the Soyuz failed to put a Meridian communications satellite into orbit when launched from Russia’s Plesetsk cosmodrome. Space agency head Vladimir Popovkin said the cause was engine failure. “What happened today was a highly unpleasant situation,” Popovkin was quoted by state news agencies as saying. “It confirms that the (aerospace) industry is in crisis and its weakest link is engine building.”

LISBON - Former Benfica and Portugal striker Eusebio is shaking off pneumonia and is likely to leave Lisbon’s Luz hospital by the end of this week. “Our perspective is that he might be discharged from hospital between Thursday and Friday. Damon Hill reckons Raikkonen could become world champion DAMON Hill believes Kimi Raikkonen has “a couple of more world championships” in him, and reckons returning to the sport at the age of 32 should not be a problem for the Finn. Raikkonen left Formula 1 at the end of the 2009 season to compete in the World Rally Championship, but he will make his comeback next year after signing a two-year deal with the Lotus Renault team. The Finn, regarded as one of the quickest drivers of his era, won the title in 2007 with Ferrari and has 18 grand prix victories to his name. Former world champion Hill thinks Raikkonen’s return is good for Formula 1, and he believes the Finn can still be champion again. “It is great - and good luck to him,” Hill told AUTOSPORT. “He is going to have to show that he has still got it,
which he has got a good team to show that in, and he is still young. “He has won a world championship already, and I had only just got into F1 at his age, so he has definitely got a couple of more world championships in him.” Hill, who retired from the sport at the end of the 1999 season, said he would also like to see a “titanic” battle for the titles next year, the Briton hoping Red Bull’s rivals can push the team harder in 2012 after a dominant 2011. “We want to see someone upset the applecart, although I think Adrian [Newey] is fantastic, and [Sebastian] Vettel, [Mark] Webber and Red Bull Racing is a great team at the front – and they seem to be fun loving,” he said. “It is good to have that – but I know that they want to fight for it. They don’t
want it too easy. So a good titanic battle between three top teams would be fantastic to see.” Hill, however, said that despite Sebastian Vettel’s dominance, the past season was thrilling. He feels 2011 showed Formula 1 is in good shape, but he stressed the need to recognise the importance Europe has for the sport. “Yes, I thought it was very exciting. It was a brilliant season. The sport is good, but there is still a lot that needs discussing. It is fantastic entertainment, but I just know that Europe and Great Britain is important to the sport. “I think that is worth emphasising – it is not all about the bottom line. It is about going to place where people understand and appreciate the sport and they should not be denied access to it.”
Trulli says Caterham is ready to score Jarno Trulli is adamant that Caterham can break into the Formula 1 midfield and challenge for a maiden points finish in 2012 - and insists he is ‘110 per cent motivated’ on helping the team achieve the goal. Well documented struggles with the handling of the team’s 2011 challenger and particularly with the power steering system - led to speculation that Trulli could be replaced for 2012. The Italian, a veteran of 252 grand prix starts, said that even in the worst moments of 2011 however he was focussed on helping the team to prepare for its third season of competition, as Caterham bids to realise its goal of breaking into the F1 midfield. He insisted that changes to the technical team and the introduction of KERS have made the team’s target of a maiden points finish an entirely legitimate goal for 2012. “Things are getting really promising,” Trulli told La Repubblica after a recent visit to the Caterham factory. “We’ll finally have the KERS we didn’t have last year, and that’s a big help. I remember that when I didn’t have it, in
Toyota, it was a problem that made the difference. “The team’s technical structure will improve too: new engineers are coming in all the times and the hiring of John Iley confirms the team’s ambitions. “I don’t want to say I’m going to win races but I think the ambition to leave the group of newcomers and to get into the midfielders one is legitimate. We’ll begin showing what we’re capable of in the races and score our maiden points.” Trulli also spoke of his ‘110 per cent motivation’ to help the team and win a further renewal to his contract, saying that he was confident his struggles this year could be identified and rectified. “To be honest it wasn’t the entire car I didn’t like: I had many problems with our power steering and the feeling I’d get from it,” he explained. “But I’m certain this problem will be solved next year and
that the car will improve a lot. “I was comforted by the fact that in the team everybody knew the technical problem I had, it was evident and the telemetry would show it. Heikki was able to adapt with his driving style, while because of my clean driving I wasn’t able to at all. “In the races I think I did a fine job for my team. You just need to look at the points table: the best results of the season came from me. I scored the two 13th places that ensured the team the 10th spot in the constructors’ championship, a result worth plenty of money for us in F1 for only the past two years.” Trulli said that such prize money proved both his and team-mate Heikki Kovalainen’s worth as professional drivers and rewarded the team’s decision not to take a pay driver. “Some teams are small and to survive they need to count the beans and so are forced to put the seat up for rent,” he said. “These are economic decision. In my opinion it’s not worth it.
