Paramount’s “mother!” added WASHINGTON - Spy comedy “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” dominated North American box offices on its debut just $3.3 million to last weekend’s weekend, industry figures showed Monday. It ousted horror $7.5 million, itself the lowest opening gross for a Jennifer Lawrence hit “It”, which had held the crown for two weeks. With a star-studded cast featuring Colin Firth, Channing Tatum, Halle Berry and even Elton John, “Kingsman” raked in $39 million for the weekend, according to box office monitor Exhibitor Relations. The sequel to “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” “The Golden Circle” sees British spy organization Kingsman join forces with American counterpart Statesman to take on a new global threat. “It,” based on a Stephen King novel and starring Bill Skarsgard as a creepy clown who menaces a sleepy Maine town, earned $29.8 million -- half its take from last weekend. But having stormed the

box office in its opening weekend with revenue of $123 million, “It” still boasts impressive earnings of $266.1 million in only three weeks. In at third was new animation “The Lego Ninjago Movie”, the third installment of Warner Bros.’ “The Lego Movie” franchise, which made $20.4 million. Trailing far behind in fourth was “American Assassin,” starring Dylan O’Brien as a CIA “black ops” recruit who teams up with crusty veteran agent Michael Keaton to fight terrorists. The film took in just $6.3 million, bringing its total earnings to $26.2 million in two weeks.

film in wide release. Darren Aronofsky’s movie follows Lawrence and her husband, played by Javier Bardem, as their tranquil lives are upended when strangers (Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer) show up at their country home. Rounding out the top 10 were: “Home Again” ($3.2 million) “Friend Request” ($2 million) “Stronger” ($1.611 million) “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” ($1.608 million) “Wind River” ($1.3 million)(afp)

Brigitte Bardot to get a statue in Saint-Tropez

NICE - French screen goddess Brigitte Bardot will be be honoured Thursday in the Riviera resort of St Tropez, where a 2.5-metre (eight-foot) statue of the actress will be unveiled on her 83rd birthday. Bardot became synonymous with the town after she helped put it on the map in her breakthrough role as a semi-naked seductress in the 1956 film “And God Created Woman”. The film was shot in St Tropez when it was still a bohemian fishing village. Bardot moved there in 1958, with international jet-setters in hot pursuit. She gave up her film career in 1973 and withdrew to her secluded home on the outskirts of the town to devote herself to promoting animal rights. The bronze statue commissioned by St Tropez is based on an Italian illustrator’s drawings of a curvaceous young Bardot -- the muse of such filmmakers as Roger Vadim (her first husband), Jean-Luc Godard and Louis Malle. The reclusive Bardot is not expected to attend the unveiling ceremony. In a hand-written note, she thanked the town for the “immense honour” of the “magnificent statue immortalising the woman that God created in Saint-Tropez!!” “I’m sending you all huge thanks, with tears in my eyes,” she wrote.(afp)

Mount Agung looms in the background at dawn as locals sit near huts and fishing boats at Amed beach, one of the nearest tourist resorts from the volcano, in Karangasem on the island of Bali on September 27, 2017. Vehicles laden with food, facemasks and bedding have been sent to help more than 75,000 people who have fled a volcano on the tourist island of Bali, as the Indonesian president flew in to visit crowded aid centres.

Indonesia ready to divert tourists as Bali volcano rumbles

KARANGASEM - Indonesian authorities are on standby to divert flights destined for the holiday island of Bali as increasingly frequent tremors from a rumbling volcano stoke fears an eruption could be imminent. Mount Agung, 75 kilometres (47 miles) from the tourist hub of Kuta, has been shaking since August, threatening to erupt for the first time in more than 50 years and forcing more than 80,000 people to flee their homes. Bali attracts millions of foreign visitors every year to its palmfringed beaches and an eruption would be a blow to its tourismdependent economy. The airport in Bali’s capital Denpasar has not been affected, but several countries including Australia and Singapore have is-

sued advisories warning travellers to exercise caution. In the case of an eruption, Indonesia plans to divert flights headed for Bali to ten other airports, including on nearby Lombok and the capital Jakarta. “The planes will be diverted to their nearest location or where it originally took off from,” transport minister Budi Karya Sumadi said. Airlines are watching the situation closely and 100 buses have been prepared to evacuate tourists. Virgin Australia said it would be making an extra fuel stop in Darwin

for some of its flights between Australia and Bali in case it is forced to turn back. Singapore Airlines said customers travelling between September 23 and October 2 could rebook flights or ask for a refund.
