Rapper Meek Mill freed after uproar over harsh term NEW YORK - Rapper Meek Mill won freedom from prison Tuesday after an unusually harsh sentence triggered protests that pointed to racial biases in US probation laws. The 30-year-old Philadelphia rapper, who was jailed in November over a case from his teenage years, was ordered out on bail by Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court. As he walked at least temporarily free, Mill thanked supporters who campaigned for him as well as the Philadelphia district attorney’s office that sided with him. “I understand that many people of color across the country don’t have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues,” Mill wrote on Twitter. “In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career,” said Mill, whose last album “Wins and Losses” reached number three on the US chart. Mill, raised by a single mother after his father was killed, was thrown into jail over his arrest on drug and gun possession charges in 2008, well before the rapper born as Robert Rihmeek Williams achieved stardom. At what had looked like a routine hearing,

Philadelphia judge Genece Brinkley handed Mill a term of between two and four years for violating terms of parole, including scheduling shows that conflicted with the court schedule and entering a publicized scuffle in St. Louis. Ordering Mill out on bail, the state’s Supreme Court cited “credibility issues” over a police officer who was a witness. Mill has said he was badly beaten during the 2008 arrest and placed a bloody mugshot of himself as the cover of his “DC4” mixtape. The Supreme Court did not throw out the case but asked the local court to reach a resolution within 60 days. It also did not remove Brinkley but noted she “may opt to remove herself from presiding over this matter.” In addition to street rallies, Mill enjoyed the support of celebrities including hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, whose Roc Nation management signed Mill. In an op-ed last year for The New York Times, Jay-Z said that Mill’s case was “just one example of how our criminal justice system entraps and harasses hundreds of thousands of black people every day.” Probation, which dates from English common law, was initially seen as a compassionate way for courts to grant freedom to people who pose little risk. LOS ANGELES - More than two dozen superheroes. One big baddie. Let the mega-battle begin -- and watch the box office receipts pile up. This week, Marvel Studios unleashes the highly-anticipated “Avengers: Infinity War” on theaters worldwide, almost 10 years to the day that it introduced movie fans to its ever-expanding comic book world with “Iron Man.” The film, set to hit US theaters on Thursday night, is sure to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year -- and the unofficial kick-off to the summer movie season. “Infinity War” is the 19th film in the so-called Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) -- it combines a whopping nine franchises, and the cast list reads like a who’s who of Hollywood’s A-list. Robert Downey Jr will don the red and yellow metal suit once again as Iron Man; Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange; Scarlett Johansson is back as Black Widow; and Australia’s Chris Hemsworth is Thor.

Also back for more? Black Panther -- the Marvel breakout of the year after the massive opening of the standalone pic in February, Captain America, the Hulk, Spider-Man, Hawkeye, the Guardians of the Galaxy and their assorted allies. Their mission? To prevent the powerful purple alien Thanos (Josh Brolin) from destroying the universe. “We took a picture of every single person whose character has been in the MCU. We hung it up on a wall all around us,” co-director Anthony Russo, who helms the pic with his brother Joe, told reporters ahead of the film’s release. “We basically spent months and months and months talking about where we could go with each character, how we could draw them through the story,” he added. “Every one of these characters... has been on a very specific journey through the MCU to arrive at this

moment.” This is the third “Avengers” film, with the final, untitled saga set for next year. At the press conference in Beverly Hills, the directors and stars were careful not to reveal too many details about the film’s plot. But expectations are high after the massive success of “Black Panther,” which so far has raked in more than $1.3 billion worldwide and has broken the all-time North American record set by “Titanic,” with more than $680 million in the US and Canada. Some projections have it opening at more than $235 million, and even higher, according to Variety -- the record opening weekend of $248 million for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is within reach. “It was great to go from what we did with ‘Black Panther’, and bringing some of that into ‘Avengers’,” said Chadwick Boseman, who portrays the character -- the first black superhero to front a movie. EU tells tech giants to tackle fake news by end-year

The EU warned US tech giants Thursday to crack down on the spread of “fake news” by the end of the year or face regulation in the wake of a scandal involving the illegal harvesting of Facebook users’ data. Brussels called for the creation of a network of “independent factcheckers” and a code of conduct amid growing concerns over election meddling involving the use of the internet and personal data. “We are giving social networks and online platforms a chance to resolve the problem once and for all,” EU digital commissioner Mariya Gabriel told a news conference. As a first step, the Bulgarian commissioner called on tech firms to draw up a code of conduct by July, and proposed the creation of a secure online platform to tackle “disinformation”. “We will closely monitor the progress made and may

propose further actions by December, including measures of regulatory nature, should the results prove unsatisfactory,” she warned. A European Commission statement explicitly referenced the scandal over the massive leak of Facebook user data to British consultancy Cambridge Analytica for use in the election campaign of US President Donald Trump. “The recent Facebook/Cambridge

Analytica revelations demonstrated exactly how personal data can be exploited in electoral contexts, and are a timely reminder that more is needed to secure resilient democratic processes,” the statement said. Revival of mass media industry

MANGUPURA - The mass media industry in the Asia-Pacific region, has begun to show signs of revival after stagnating as a result of audiences and advertisers shifting to online platforms and social media. One of the factors leading to this revival is increasing public interest in news stories, as revealed during Publish Asia 2018 held in Nusa Dua on Wednesday (Apr. 25) by the World Association Newspaper and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA). According to WAN-IFRA APAC Committee Chairman, Patrick Daniel, the atmosphere of the mass media industry is improving. Last year, when the meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, mass media companies were experiencing stagnant growth and most were doing a lot of restructuring. “This year, the atmosphere was better because there is optimism as the mass media industry is seeing growth”, he said. Several reasons have caused excitement in the mass media industry this year including increased numbers of people wanting to read news stories as well as new sources of income for the mass media industry. Many mass media outlets have started to find their rhythm in generating revenue from ads on online platforms such as Facebook and Google. “Trens show that more and more people are

willing to pay to read news online”, he explained. Efforts added Daniel are still required in order to increase public interest in paying for news. There is clearly a market, he said as seen from the significant year to year increases of revenue for entertainment platforms such as Netflix, Spotify as such. The younger generation is clearly willing to spend money to buy videos, music, movies and other paid content. Number of mass media portals are already applying a pay to read system for articles and news videos such as the New York Times who have a large base of online customers who pay for their content. A number of media outlets in the Asia Pacific region also show similarly inspiring trends. Chief Operating Officer of WANIFRA, Germany, Thomas Jacob explained that mass media trends

are developing including new sources of income that publishers can access through paird content and online customers. “There is a tendency for print media to remain stable because of the widespread distribution of fake news stories circulating online through social media sites.. Print media are considered more reliable than other platforms”, ??said Jacob. However, he cautioned that a number of factors need to be considered as guidelines for repeating profits from content such as quality of news, trust, and collaboration. “Publishers with strong brand and a long history are more trusted by readers”, he said. Wrong planning to deliver 500 workers overseas

DENPASAR - Until now there are no indications of realization on the plan of delivering 500 workers overseas either for working in hospitality, spa or cruise ship. Having been investigated, there seems a little mistake in the planning made by the Bali Manpower and Energy and Mineral Resources Agency. It is chiefly related to budget, so it becomes an obstacle in the implementation. “In the process, there is a mistake in budget planning because this is the first time. It is the first program in Bali and in Indonesia, I admit (there is a wrong planning—Ed),” said the Head of Bali Manpower and Energy and Mineral Resources, Ni Luh Made Wiratmi, in Denpasar, recently. According to Wiratmi, the budget of training and delivery of workers was formerly combined into single post. Actually, the budget of the two activities is separated so that it needs revising. The revision process must also go through a number of meetings with relevant parties. Nevertheless, her agency ensured the program of delivering 500 workers overseas will continue

to run. “In short, the implementation must be correct. Otherwise, we’ll go wrong. Later there are examinations and so on,” she said. Wiratmi added the allocated budget remains IDR 10 billion for the 500 workers in 2018. Her agency targets the issue can be resolved in May considering there have been many people, especially the younger generations that are interested in this program. Previously, Chairman of Commission IV of the Bali House of Representatives, I Nyoman Parta, requested the Manpower and Energy and Mineral Resources Agency to work seriously so the program can be realized properly. Thus, the budget allocated worth IDR 10 billion can be on target. Primarily, it can target workers from poor families. In addition, the budget issued by the Bali Regional Budget does not result in legal problems. Apart from that, the breakthrough of the Bali provincial government is considered good so the parliament fully supports it. “This program must be successful no matter what the reason is. Health Agency returns to hold food inspection TABANAN -After being inactive for two years due to device damage, in 2018 the Health Agency returns to carry out food inspection program to identify harmful substances in the community. For the first time in 2018, the examination was conducted at the school cafeteria on Wednesday (Apr. 25), precisely at SMKN 3 Tabanan and SMK Triatmaja vocational school. Hazardous substances in the food examined are formalin, borax, Rhodamine and methyl yellow. The examination conducted at both vocational schools showed negative result or the food sold at the school canteen does not contain any hazardous substances. Head of the Tabanan Health Agency, Nyoman Suratmika, said the activities funded by the Tabanan Regional Budget (APBD) in the future will be carried out regularly. It will not only target high schools and vocational schools, but also all the schools throughout Tabanan. “The examination will also be extended to markets targeting merchants of foods being vulnerable to hazardous ingredients such as salted fish or tofu and meatballs,” said Suramika.

He explained this program is continuation of the program of the Health Agency which had been inactive for two years due to damages of the examination device. “During the inactive period all this time, food inspection is performed by National Agency for Food and Drug Control (BPOM),” he said. The device was then procured in 2017 along with the substances for inspection and is then relaunched in 2018. He added, the program is resumed because it poses the tasks of the Health Agency in assisting the National Agency for Food and Drug Control so that people will not consume food containing hazardous substances. If later on during the passage is found positive results, according to Suratmika, the measures to be taken by the Health Agency is providing coaching. The results can also be used as a basis by the BPOM to conduct guidance in Tabanan district. “To handle positive results, we do not crack down on the violators but just provide coaching. Traffic Affairs distribute safety vest to sweepers DENPASAR — Various ways are done by the ranks of traffic police to maintain safety on highway. Habitually traffic police often distribute helmets to motorcycle riders. However, this time is very different from the usual. They target sweepers on the highway around Denpasar to distribute safety vest on Wednesday (Apr. 25). This is carried out to keep their safety from accident. Director of Bali Police Traffic Affairs, A.A. Made Sudana, explained that he got the innovation to distribute safety vest to sweepers on the highway spontaneously. While going around Denpasar, he saw many sweepers working from dawn till night. “In the middle of heavy traffic, I see the conditions are very dangerous. They only put on usual clothes, green shirts and pants. In other words, there are no signs on their body indicating if they are working on the road,”

said Sudana. Inspired by what he has seen, this former Chief of Denpasar Police has an idea to distribute safety vests to them. With the vests, they can be seen by riders if they are sweeping or cleaning the garbage on highway. “By wearing the safety vest, they can be avoided from the threat of accidents because the vest comes with a florescent sticker. Moreover, the sticker is shining brightly at night,” he said. Safety vest provision has been done since Wednesday (Apr. 25). A number of traffic affair officers were deployed to distribute as well as other officers such as Chief of Highway Patrol, Directorate of Traffic Affairs of Bali Police, Suva Sujadi. “We came down to the field and when encountering sweepers working on the street we directly gave it to them while also giving an appeal. The standard hotel room amenities have not been replaced since 2005 or since the establishment of this hotel. Operations Manager of Jimbarwana Hotel, Kade Agus Diarta, when asked for his confirmation last Wednesday did not dismiss the complaints from hotel guests. As the manager, he continued to coordinate periodically. Some hotel facilities have been replaced. “For the three-year contract, many facilities have been changed including the bed of almost 46 standard rooms and 4 suite rooms. A chicken meat dealer at Bangli Market, Ni Nyoman Gabung, said on Wednesday (Apr. 25) the increase in chicken meat has occurred since the past few days. Previously, the price of chicken meat was only in the range of IDR 18,000 to IDR 18,500, but now skyrocketed to IDR 38,000 per kg. “Now, the price is the most expensive. Previously, the most expensive was only at the price of IDR 25,000. But now, it soared to IDR 38,000 per kg,” she said. Ford and Telstra were each ordered by an Australian court to pay Aus$10 million (US$7.6 million) in penalties Thursday following separate legal proceedings launched by the country’s consumer watchdog. Car giant Ford was slugged with the record fine for its “unconscionable” handling of gearbox complaints. In a separate case Thursday leading Australian telecom company Telstra was penalised after more than 100,000 customers unknowingly bought extra content, such as ring tones or games. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) began legal action against Ford last year after the car manufacturer failed to properly deal with thousands of complaints about shuddering in PowerShift transmissions fitted to its Fiesta, Focus and EcoSport models. “Despite knowing that shuddering was a symptom of the quality issues with the vehicles, Ford frequently told customers that shuddering was the result of the customer’s driving style,” ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said in a statement. “Ford knew that the symptoms of the quality issues with the vehicles were experienced intermittently, but required customers to demonstrate them on demand in the presence of a dealer in order for repairs to be undertaken.” The payout matches the largestever handed down under Australian consumer law, the ACCC said, equalling a $10-million penalty against supermarket chain Coles in 2014 for misusing its bargaining powers against suppliers.

“Ford knew that its vehicles had three separate quality issues, but dealt with affected customers in a way which the Court has declared to be unconscionable,” Sims said. Finally, the gamelan players and dancers could instantly move again. Spectators were stunned at the time,” said chief of Kerta customary village, Made Witarjana, when accompanying the Joged Pingit art troupe of Penyabangan hamlet in the performance at the Bali Arts Festival 2016, Friday (Jun. 24). Witarjana believed that the miracle came because the troupe members always ask for approval to the Dalem Pingit Temple at local hamlet prior to making performance. Since that incident, the single joged dancer has been getting popular as joged pingit. Furthermore, the joged pingit was only performed at certain times because the pingit here means sacred.

The original headdress of the joged pingit has even been put in a shrine at the Dalem Temple. Nevertheless, the joged pingit can still be staged for entertainment. However, the headdress used by the dancer is a duplicate of the original one. Before making performance, the audience of the BAF was also invited to see the procession of picking up the Dalem Deity on stage. “Necessarily each joged performance should indeed begin with a ritual. First of all, we present a pejati offerings to ask for permission to deity that the headdress of the joged will be staged like this time (BAF— Ed) or when performing as sacred dance. It is meant to plead so as to be allowed to perform, given divine vibration and safety for the dancers, gamelan players and general public,” he said. Also known as the “East Area Rapist” and the “Original Nightstalker,” the Golden State Killer has been linked to at least 12 murders, 51 rapes and 120 home burglaries in California between 1976 and 1986. Armed with a handgun, the masked assailant would break into homes during the night and tie up and rape his female victims, who ranged in age from 13 to 41. Critically endangered Javan Rhino dies in Indonesia

A Javan rhino has died in Indonesia, the environment ministry said Thursday, bringing the critically endangered mammals closer to extinction with just 60 believed to be still living in the wild. The body of the male rhino was found inside West Java’s Ujung Kulon national park, the creature’s last remaining habitat.

Its death was believed to be from old age rather than poaching. The animal has been driven to the brink of extinction as their horns are highly valued in traditional Chinese and Korean medicine, although most countries in the region have banned the trade. “We found it on (Monday) and are now performing an autopsy,” said environment ministry spokesman Djati Witjaksono Hadi. The 40-year-old rhino didn’t had any offspring, he added. Javan and Sumatran rhinos are classified as “critically endangered” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Javan rhino is distinguished from African rhinos by its smaller size, single horn and loose skin folds which give it the appearance of wearing armour plating.(afp)

Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi won a legal battle Thursday to register his name as a trademark to sell sports goods after an EU court ruled that he is too famous to be confused with other businesses. The Argentine star, the world’s highest earning footballer, rode out a challenge by a Spanish cycling gear manufacturer called Massi, which had challenged his trademark on the grounds that it was too similar to its own. “Lionel Messi may register his trade mark ‘MESSI’ for sports equipment and clothing,” said a ruling by the General Court of the European Union, the bloc’s second-highest court. “The football player’s fame counteracts the visual and phonetic similarities between his trade mark and the trade mark ‘MASSI’ belonging to a Spanish company,” the Luxembourg-based court said. Battered by air strikes, the main stadium in the rebel-held Syrian city of Idlib hosted a soccer friendly on Wednesday, re-opening after three years of closure. Idlib has been hit by heavy aerial bombardments by President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. The city is largely controlled by Tahrir al-Sham, a rebel coalition dominated by a former branch of Al-Qaeda. It is the capital of Idlib province, home to a patchwork of other rebel groups. The stadium restoration is only a superficial one -- just enough to allow informal matches. Wednesday’s game pitched the White Helmets, rescuers in rebelheld zones, against a team from the University of Idlib. Both groups helped carry out basic repairs on

the municipal facility. The stadium had been heavily damaged by “the strikes that systematically targeted it, but we cleared the ground of wire, re-installed windows and doors and removed rubble,” Yahya Arja, head of the White Helmets’ Idlib branch, told AFP. Ex-cop arrested for ‘Golden State Killer’ murders, rapes after 40-year chase LOS ANGELES - California authorities, after a 40-year manhunt, on Wednesday announced the arrest of a 72-year-old former police officer on suspicion of being the notorious “Golden State Killer,” a serial rapist and murderer who terrorized the state in the 1970s and 1980s. Joseph James DeAngelo, of Citrus Heights, California, was arrested without incident on Tuesday, officials said at a press conference in the state capital Sacramento. Also known as the “East Area Rapist” and the “Original Nightstalker,” the Golden State Killer has been linked to at least 12 murders, 51 rapes and 120 home burglaries in California between 1976 and 1986. Armed with a handgun, the masked assailant would break into homes during the night and tie up and rape his female victims, who ranged in age from 13 to 41. Sacramento County district attorney Anne Marie Schubert said DeAngelo had been charged with two counts of murder with further charges to come. “They just haven’t been charged yet,” Schubert told reporters. “This has happened at lightning speed.” She said DeAngelo had been identified through DNA technology but declined to provide any more details about what led to his arrest after all these years. “The answer was and always was going to be in the DNA,” Schubert said. “We found the needle in the haystack and it was right here in Sacramento.” “The magnitude of this case demanded that it be solved,” the district attorney added. “This case deeply affected this entire state.” (afp)

Critically endangered Javan Rhino dies in Indonesia

A Javan rhino has died in Indonesia, the environment ministry said Thursday, bringing the critically endangered mammals closer to extinction with just 60 believed to be still living in the wild. The body of the male rhino was found inside West Java’s Ujung Kulon national park, the creature’s last remaining habitat.

Its death was believed to be from old age rather than poaching. The animal has been driven to the brink of extinction as their horns are highly valued in traditional Chinese and Korean medicine, although most countries in the region have banned the trade. “We found it on (Monday) and are now performing an autopsy,” said environment ministry spokesman Djati Witjaksono Hadi. The 40-year-old rhino didn’t had any offspring, he added. Javan and Sumatran rhinos are classified as “critically endangered” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Javan rhino is distinguished from African rhinos by its smaller size, single horn and loose skin folds which give it the appearance of wearing armour plating.(afp)

The men were arrested during raids last July, when the drug network’s suspected leader was killed in a shootout with Indonesian police. “The defendants have been found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of colluding and smuggling narcotics,” presiding judge Haruno Patriadi said as he passed sentence at the South Jakarta District Court. Tipped off by their Taiwanese counterparts, Indonesian police said they discovered some 1,000 kilograms (2,200 pounds) of crystal meth -- shipped by boat from China -- packed inside about 50 boxes. The haul was reportedly worth some $144 million. Some of the suspects were arrested at a beach where the drugs

were delivered some 125 kilometres (77 miles) west of Jakarta, while others were apprehended in the suspected drug boat near Singaporean waters. The sentence passed on the men -- Liao Guan-Yu, Chen Wei-Cyuan, Hsu Yung-Li, Juang Jin Sheng, Sun Kuo Tai, Sun Chih-Feng, Kuo Chun Yuan, and Tsai Chih Hung -- comes after 11 other Taiwanese drug smugglers were condemned to death in Indonesia in recent years. Ford and Telstra were each ordered by an Australian court to pay Aus$10 million (US$7.6 million) in penalties Thursday following separate legal proceedings launched by the country’s consumer watchdog. Car giant Ford was slugged with the record fine for its “unconscionable” handling of gearbox complaints. In a separate case Thursday leading Australian telecom company Telstra was penalised after more than 100,000 customers unknowingly bought extra content, such as ring tones or games. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) began legal action against Ford last year after the car manufacturer failed to properly deal with thousands of complaints about shuddering in PowerShift transmissions fitted to its Fiesta, Focus and EcoSport models. “Despite knowing that shuddering was a symptom of the quality issues with the vehicles, Ford frequently told customers that shuddering was the result of the customer’s driving style,” ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said in a statement. “Ford knew that the symptoms of the quality issues with the vehicles were experienced intermittently, but required customers to demonstrate them on demand in the presence of a dealer in order for repairs to be undertaken.” The payout matches the largestever handed down under Australian consumer law, the ACCC said, equalling a $10-million penalty against supermarket chain Coles in 2014 for misusing its bargaining powers against suppliers.

“Ford knew that its vehicles had three separate quality issues, but dealt with affected customers in a way which the Court has declared to be unconscionable,” Sims said. About 75,000 cars fitted with the PowerShift transmission have been sold in Australia and over 10,000 people may be eligible for remediation after making complaints between May 2015 and November 2016. “We were overwhelmed with the volume of complaints and, while it was not intended, over a ten-month period our processes were inadequate and information provided was either inaccurate or incomplete,” ?President of Ford Motor Company Australia Graeme Whickman said. “We let our customers down and for that we are sorry,” he said in a statement. The dancers and gamelan players were suddenly stiff and unable to do any activities, including dancing and playing their gamelan instrument. “However, suddenly there was a miracle in the form of rays coming down and embedding in the headdress of the joged dancer. Finally, the gamelan players and dancers could instantly move again. Spectators were stunned at the time,” said chief of Kerta customary village, Made Witarjana, when accompanying the Joged Pingit art troupe of Penyabangan hamlet in the performance at the Bali Arts Festival 2016, Friday (Jun. 24). Witarjana believed that the miracle came because the troupe members always ask for approval to the Dalem Pingit Temple at local hamlet prior to making performance. Since that incident, the single joged dancer has been getting popular as joged pingit. Furthermore, the joged pingit was only performed at certain times because the pingit here means sacred.

The original headdress of the joged pingit has even been put in a shrine at the Dalem Temple. Nevertheless, the joged pingit can still be staged for entertainment. However, the headdress used by the dancer is a duplicate of the original one. Before making performance, the audience of the BAF was also invited to see the procession of picking up the Dalem Deity on stage. “Necessarily each joged performance should indeed begin with a ritual. First of all, we present a pejati offerings to ask for permission to deity that the headdress of the joged will be staged like this time (BAF— Ed) or when performing as sacred dance. It is meant to plead so as to be allowed to perform, given divine vibration and safety for the dancers, gamelan players and general public,” he said. Chicken meat price skyrockets due to sluggish supplies BANGLI - Due to sluggish supplies, the price of chicken meat in Kidul Market Bangli skyrocketed. Currently, the price of chicken meat is IDR 38,000 per kg. The price is the highest, considering it has never been as expensive as it. This condition also makes merchants of chicken meat complain due to drastic decrease of buyers. A chicken meat dealer at Bangli Market, Ni Nyoman Gabung, said on Wednesday (Apr. 25) the increase in chicken meat has occurred since the past few days. Previously, the price of chicken meat was only in the range of IDR 18,000 to IDR 18,500, but now skyrocketed to IDR 38,000 per kg. “Now, the price is the most expensive. Previously, the most expensive was only at the price of IDR 25,000. But now, it soared to IDR 38,000 per kg,” she said. According to Gabung, the soaring price of chicken meat in the market happened due to sluggish supplies. Only few breeders remain to breed chicken considering the chick is scarce and a little. She said this condition made her dizzy as her buyers experienced a significant decline. “My regular customer previously purchasing chicken here dropped drastically. Although there are some customers staying loyal to purchase here, the amount of meat purchased is decreasing. Previously when remaining stable, they usually looked for 5 kg of chicken, while now only 2 kg,” she explained. Further, she predicted such condition will last until several

weeks ahead. Moreover, in the near future there will be the month of Ramadan and various religious holidays including Galungan and Kuningan. Usually when there is a big ceremony, the price of meat will increase from the usual price. “Now, all the prices have increased. Hopefully, the price of meat can return to normal soon. So, the price will no longer burden people and the price is more affordable,” she explained. Meanwhile, chicken breeder from Jeruk Mancingan hamlet, Tiga, Susut, Ni Made Jelih, revealed the price of chicken is indeed expensive. She said the expensive price happened due to being a little and rare supply of chick. “Right now, I only raise 800 chickens due to getting a small number of chick,” she explained. She explained that by raising such number she also gets a little gain. Moreover, it is now not recommended to use drugs to speed up the chicken enlargement because it is hazardous. On the condition, the operating costs also increases because the chicken raising period is a little longer than before. Previous the raising period reached 35 days, but now it can reach 40 to 50 days. “If harvested before 35 days, the quality of chicken meat is less good because the chicken harvest time must be at least 35 days. We are not closing establishments but tourists cannot enter. We are implementing the instruction of the president,” Binag said. About 600 policemen were deployed, with some performing life-like drills including riot officers battling bottle-hurling protesters and mock hostage taking of sunbathers -- all before startled locals. “My nephews and nieces were afraid,” Filipino tourist Tara Calcetas told AFP. “It was scary because there were people swimming yesterday (at the beach) and the police were firing guns as if there was a

criminal here.” The government conceded on Thursday there was no real threat, with interior ministry assistant secretary Epimaco Densing telling AFP the security presence was “just part of preparing for the worst”. Traffic Affairs distribute safety vest to sweepers DENPASAR — Various ways are done by the ranks of traffic police to maintain safety on highway. Habitually traffic police often distribute helmets to motorcycle riders. However, this time is very different from the usual. They target sweepers on the highway around Denpasar to distribute safety vest on Wednesday (Apr. 25). This is carried out to keep their safety from accident. Director of Bali Police Traffic Affairs, A.A. Made Sudana, explained that he got the innovation to distribute safety vest to sweepers on the highway spontaneously. While going around Denpasar, he saw many sweepers working from dawn till night. “In the middle of heavy traffic, I see the conditions are very dangerous. They only put on usual clothes, green shirts and pants. In other words, there are no signs on their body indicating if they are working on the road,”

said Sudana. Inspired by what he has seen, this former Chief of Denpasar Police has an idea to distribute safety vests to them. With the vests, they can be seen by riders if they are sweeping or cleaning the garbage on highway. “By wearing the safety vest, they can be avoided from the threat of accidents because the vest comes with a florescent sticker. Moreover, the sticker is shining brightly at night,” he said. Safety vest provision has been done since Wednesday (Apr. 25). MANGUPURA - The mass media industry in the Asia-Pacific region, has begun to show signs of revival after stagnating as a result of audiences and advertisers shifting to online platforms and social media. One of the factors leading to this revival is increasing public interest in news stories, as revealed during Publish Asia 2018 held in Nusa Dua on Wednesday (Apr. 25) by the World Association Newspaper and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA). According to WAN-IFRA APAC Committee Chairman, Patrick Daniel, the atmosphere of the mass media industry is improving. Last year, when the meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, mass media companies were experiencing stagnant growth and most were doing a lot of restructuring. “This year, the atmosphere was better because there is optimism as the mass media industry is seeing growth”, he said. Several reasons have caused excitement in the mass media industry this year including increased numbers of people wanting to read news stories as well as new sources of income for the mass media industry. Many mass media outlets have started to find their rhythm in generating revenue from ads on online platforms such as Facebook and Google. “Trens show that more and more people are

In addition, the budget issued by the Bali Regional Budget does not result in legal problems. Apart from that, the breakthrough of the Bali provincial government is considered good so the parliament fully supports it. “This program must be successful no matter what the reason is. Health Agency returns to hold food inspection TABANAN -After being inactive for two years due to device damage, in 2018 the Health Agency returns to carry out food inspection program to identify harmful substances in the community. For the first time in 2018, the examination was conducted at the school cafeteria on Wednesday (Apr. 25), precisely at SMKN 3 Tabanan and SMK Triatmaja vocational school. Hazardous substances in the food examined are formalin, borax, Rhodamine and methyl yellow. The examination conducted at both vocational schools showed negative result or the food sold at the school canteen does not contain any hazardous substances. Head of the Tabanan Health Agency, Nyoman Suratmika, said the activities funded by the Tabanan Regional Budget (APBD) in the future will be carried out regularly. It will not only target high schools and vocational schools, but also all the schools throughout Tabanan. “The examination will also be extended to markets targeting merchants of foods being vulnerable to hazardous ingredients such as salted fish or tofu and meatballs,” said Suramika.

He explained this program is continuation of the program of the Health Agency which had been inactive for two years due to damages of the examination device. “During the inactive period all this time, food inspection is performed by National Agency for Food and Drug Control (BPOM),” he said. The device was then procured in 2017 along with the substances for inspection and is then relaunched in 2018. He added, the program is resumed because it poses the tasks of the Health Agency in assisting the National Agency for Food and Drug Control so that people will not consume food containing hazardous substances. LOS ANGELES - More than two dozen superheroes. One big baddie. Let the mega-battle begin -- and watch the box office receipts pile up. This week, Marvel Studios unleashes the highly-anticipated “Avengers: Infinity War” on theaters worldwide, almost 10 years to the day that it introduced movie fans to its ever-expanding comic book world with “Iron Man.” The film, set to hit US theaters on Thursday night, is sure to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year -- and the unofficial kick-off to the summer movie season. “Infinity War” is the 19th film in the so-called Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) -- it combines a whopping nine franchises, and the cast list reads like a who’s who of Hollywood’s A-list. Robert Downey Jr will don the red and yellow metal suit once again as Iron Man; Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange; Scarlett Johansson is back as Black Widow; and Australia’s Chris Hemsworth is Thor.

Black Panther -- the Marvel breakout of the year after the massive opening of the standalone pic in February, Captain America, the Hulk, Spider-Man, Hawkeye, the Guardians of the Galaxy and their assorted allies. Their mission? To prevent the powerful purple alien Thanos (Josh Brolin) from destroying the universe. “We took a picture of every single person whose character has been in the MCU. We hung it up on a wall all around us,” co-director Anthony Russo, who helms the pic with his brother Joe, told reporters ahead of the film’s release. “We basically spent months and months and months talking about where we could go with each character, how we could draw them through the story,” he added. “Every one of these characters... has been on a very specific journey through the MCU to arrive at this

moment.” This is the third “Avengers” film, with the final, untitled saga set for next year. At the press conference in Beverly Hills, the directors and stars were careful not to reveal too many details about the film’s plot. But expectations are high after the massive success of “Black Panther,” which so far has raked in more than $1.3 billion worldwide and has broken the all-time North American record set by “Titanic,” with more than $680 million in the US and Canada. Some projections have it opening at more than $235 million, and even higher, according to Variety -- the record opening weekend of $248 million for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is within reach. “It was great to go from what we did with ‘Black Panther’, and bringing some of that into ‘Avengers’,” said Chadwick Boseman, who portrays the character -- the first black superhero to front a movie. EU tells tech giants to tackle fake news by end-year

The EU warned US tech giants Thursday to crack down on the spread of “fake news” by the end of the year or face regulation in the wake of a scandal involving the illegal harvesting of Facebook users’ data. Brussels called for the creation of a network of “independent factcheckers” and a code of conduct amid growing concerns over election meddling involving the use of the internet and personal data. “We are giving social networks and online platforms a chance to resolve the problem once and for all,” EU digital commissioner Mariya Gabriel told a news conference. As a first step, the Bulgarian commissioner called on tech firms to draw up a code of conduct by July, and proposed the creation of a secure online platform to tackle “disinformation”. “We will closely monitor the progress made and may

propose further actions by December, including measures of regulatory nature, should the results prove unsatisfactory,” she warned.
