ERCIS — A survivor of the 7.2-magnitude quake that has killed at least 239 people in eastern Turkey was pulled from the rubble with three other people on Monday after he managed to call for help on his cell phone. Dozens of people were trapped in hills of debris, but authorities offered hope that the death toll may not rise as high as initially feared. Rescuers searched throughout the night among pancaked buildings as families members waited outside, some in tears. Cranes and other heavy equipment lifted slabs of concrete and residents searched for the missing with shovels. Denpasar Municipality is urged to make laws governing the venture of Internet cafĂŠs as soon as possible, particularly the cafes providing the content of online gaming. If the business is allowed to continuously operate without the support of decisive laws, it is feared as potentially bringing in aftermath to students and young people. A member of Commission D in the Denpasar House, I Ketut Nuada, revealed the matter on Sunday (Oct 23). According to Nuada, the absence of laws governing the Internet cafe business was an example of tardiness of Denpasar Municipality in anticipating the advancement of information technology (IT). Meanwhile, the facts in the ÂżHOG VKRZHG LI WKH EXVLQHVV ZDV growing very rapidly due to a great demand among the public, especially young people. “To suppress the negative impact of the Internet cafe business, all parties must play an active role. Many parents were overwhelmed controlling their children not to play online gaming. “Other than cost aspect, negative impact of the game is the most hazardous. It has taken their time to learn. of government and employers could not be ignored. Government should initiate the legislation to organize and discipline the existence of those online gaming businesses. Meanwhile, employers should also have a moral responsibility to prevent the negative impact of the IT advances. “At least, operational hours of the Internet CafĂŠ should be limited. Meanwhile, prohibition for students from entering the cafe in school uniforms, in my opinion, will not help much because the activity is usually carried out after school hours,â€? he said. BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — President Cristina Fernandez was re-elected in a landslide Sunday, winning with the widest victory margin in Argentina’s history after her government spread the wealth of a booming economy. Fernandez had 53 percent of the vote after 58 percent of the polling stations reported nationwide. Her nearest challenger got just 17 percent. Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo predicted the president’s share would rise as polls reported from her party’s stronghold of densely populated Buenos Aires province. “Count on me to continue pursuing the project,” Fernandez vowed in her victory speech. “All I want is to keep collaborating ... to keep Argentina growing. I want to keep changing history.” Fernandez is Latin America’s first woman to be re-elected as president, but the victory was personally bittersweet — the first without her husband and predecessor, Nestor Kirchner, who died of a heart attack last Oct. 27. “This is a strange night for me,” she said, describing her mix of emotions. “This man who transformed Argentina led us all and gave everything he had and more ... Geneva - North Korean and US negotiators are meeting in Geneva on Monday for direct talks aimed at reviving long-stalled nuclear disarmament negotiations. While analysts expect no breakthrough during the two-day meeting, they see engagement between the two parties as a positive development and a way to stop Pyongyang from making rash moves. “The view is that while they are talking, they are not provoking -- it’s jaw-jaw rather than war-war,” Mark Fitzpatrick, who heads the nonproliferation programme at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, told AFP.
“I don’t think that people will say this is a disaster because there is nothing concrete in terms of results,” he added. North Korea’s delegation led by first vice foreign minister Kim Kye Gwan arrived on Saturday, while the US team represented by outgoing special respresentative Stephen Bosworth, as well as his replacement Glyn Davies, checked in on Sunday. Sarkozy ‘sick’ of Cameron’s EU interference: reports Agence France Presse
French President Nicolas Sarkozy launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister David Cameron at Sunday’s EU summit, saying he was “sick of him telling us what to do,” Britain’s press reported. During talks in Brussels to resolve the eurozone debt crisis, the French leader accused Cameron of “interfering in our meetings”, newspapers The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph reported, citing diplomatic sources. “We’re sick of you criticising us and telling us what to do,” Sarkozy reportedly told Cameron. “You say you hate the euro, you didn’t want to join and now you want to interfere in our meetings,” he added. Another newspaper, The Times, also reported that a row had erupted, but did not give exact details. Tempers frayed over Sarkozy’s insistence that only the 17 members of the eurozone attend a bank rescue summit meeting hastily arranged for Wednesday, according to the Telegraph. Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

JAKARTA - A US economist has advised Indonesia not to be taken off-guard by the current world crisis although its economy this year had remained positive. “Economic uncertainties continue to haunt almost all regions including Asian countries such as China, India and Indonesia. Therefore. all countries including the developing ones, must continue to strive to get out of these uncertainties,” economic Nouriel Roubini, a professor at the Stern School of Business of New York University, said in his lecture at the National Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Building here on Monday. The economic lecture titled “Global Economic Challenges and Its Impact on Indonesia” was attended by Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan and a number of national economists as panelists such as Rizal Ramli, Emil Salim, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Aviliani, Mirza Adityaswara and Fauzi Ichsan. Roubini said until now the impact of the current global crisis had not yet affected Indonesia directly due to its strong domestic market. Indonesia`s debt-to-GDP ratio in 2011 was still healthy at 25.2 percent but lower than in 2010 and 2009 when it was 27.4 percent and 28.6 percent
respectively. Indonesia`s economic growth was also still positive and even tending to rise. The IMF had predicted Indonesia`s economy may grow 6.2 percent in 2011, up from 6.1 percent in 2010 and 4.6 percent in 2009. He said the impact of the economic uncertainties as a result of the crises in Europe and the US had started to be felt in the share market, state-owned corporate and private sectors but it was not yet serious. However, he suggested that anticipatarory measures be taken in case no immediate solutions to the crisis were found so as to minimize the effects on investment, company capitals and economic growth. “On the other hand positive decisions for European and US markets would have the potential of mobilizing developing countries` economies, manufacturing sector, trade, information technology services and boost direct foreign investment,” he said. Roubini acknowledged that Indonesia`s economy was good enough to weather a crisis, supported by domestic consumption and widening export markets. “Indonesia and India are two countries that have managed to do relatively well because 60 to 70 percent of their economies are supported by public consumption. This may be used to measure a country`s economic
resilience,” he said. In response to Roubino`s views, Minister Gita Wirjawan said that although Indonesia`s domestic consumption was high, a policy was needed to maintain the rate of export growth. “Under current conditions we must strengthen the domestic market and safeguard export markets so that they will not be eroded,” he said. He confirmed that the current crisis has not yet affected the country`s export markets.

The State Audit Board (BPK) has issued an opinion that the transaction on the acquisition of seven percent of the divestment shares had used funds from the state budget. “The BPK said in its opinion on the results
of its auditing that there was a violation in the purchase of the shares. So, we will soon summon the minister,” he said. He said that there were two points in the opinion of the state audit board that had to become the government attention. “BPK said an investment by the government using the state money needs a special government regulation. The same is true to state participation funds given to state firms which also needs a special government regulation,” he said. The second thing, he said, is that the government needs approval from the House if it wants to make the investment. “The House must approve it in the first place because the funds to purchase the stake came from the state budget. So far, the finance minister has never asked the House`s approval,” he said.

‘Paranormal 3’ scares up record $54 million debut Associated Press Writer
LOS ANGELES — “Paranormal Activity 3” didn’t just go bump in the night. It made a ton of noise at the box office with a record-setting, $54 million opening. The third film in Paramount Pictures’ lowbudget fright franchise, which was No. 1 at the box office, had the biggest debut ever for a horror movie, according to Sunday studio estimates. It broke the previous record part two set a year ago with $40.7 million. It’s also the biggest opening ever for an October release, topping the $50.35 million Paramount’s “Jackass 3D” made last year. “Paranormal Activity 3” is actually a prequel, with the discovery of disturbing home-movie footage from 1988. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who made the creepy documentary “Catfish,” took over directing duties this time. Don Harris, Paramount’s president of distribution, said the studio hoped part three would simply perform better than part two. The first “Paranormal Activity,” with its reported $15,000 budget, became a phenomenon in 2009 through midnight screenings and word of mouth. Harris believes this installment did so well because it’s actually the best movie of
the three. He noted that it appealed to an older crowd, with 47 percent over the age of 25 compared to 40 percent for “Paranormal Activity 2.” Strong reviews also helped, he said, including a rave from Time magazine. And fundamentally, horror movies simply play better in a packed theater. “Ultimately, it gets back to why there’s still a theatrical business, why people still go to the movies,” Harris said. “We want to laugh in a group, we want to be scared in a group, people like to cry in a group in the dark where nobody can see them crying. An inflamed growth known as a granuloma was removed from just above Mayer’s vocal cord, the Grammy-winning performer said Thursday on Tumblr. “It’s been a very long process in waiting to see if time was an alternative to surgery, but ... there was no change for the better,” Mayer wrote. NEW YORK — Janet Jackson is rescheduling part of her Australian tour so she can support her family during the trial of the doctor accused of involuntary manslaughter in her brother Michael’s death. Dr. Conrad Murray is on trial in Los Angeles. He is accused of being negligent in his care of the superstar, who died in 2009 of an overdose of the anesthetic propofol at age 50. The prosecution is wrapping up its case this week, and the defense is about to present its case. The Jacksons have been a regular presence at the trial; Janet Jackson was there at the beginning. “When I planned these shows, the schedule in California was completely different,” she said in a Sunday statement to The Associated Press. “After talking with my family last night, I decided we must be together right now. .... This saddens me in so many ways.” The shows for her “Number Ones” tour were scheduled in Melbourne on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday; to make them up, she’ll perform one night, on Nov. 3, in Rod Laver Arena. She thanked her fans for their support and understanding.Jackson also has the support of her promoter. “It is important that Janet is with her family at this critical point in the hearing. SAN JOSE, Calif. — When a computer attack hobbled Iran’s unfinished nuclear power plant last year, it was assumed to be a military-grade strike, the handiwork of elite hacking professionals with nation-state backing. Yet for all its science fiction sophistication, key elements have now been replicated in laboratory settings by security experts with little time, money or specialized skill. It is an alarming development that shows how technical advances are eroding the barrier that has long prevented computer assaults from leaping from the digital to the physical world. The techniques demonstrated in recent months highlight the danger to operators of power plants, water
systems and other critical infrastructure around the world. “Things that sounded extremely unlikely a few years ago are now coming along,” said Scott Borg, director of the U.S. Cyber Consequences Unit, a nonprofit group that helps the U.S. government prepare for future attacks. While the experiments have been performed in laboratory settings, and the findings presented at security conferences or in technical papers, the danger of another real-world attack
such as the one on Iran is profound. The team behind the so-called Stuxnet worm that was used to attack the Iranian nuclear facility may still be active. New malicious software with some of Stuxnet’s original code and behavior has surfaced, suggesting ongoing reconnaissance against industrial control systems. And attacks on critical infrastructure are increasing. The Idaho National Laboratory, home to secretive defense labs intended to protect the nation’s power grids, water systems and other critical infrastructure, has responded to triple the number of computer attacks from clients this year over last, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has revealed.
The first shoes with built-in GPS devices -- to help track down dementia-suffering seniors who wander off and get lost -- are set to hit the US market this month, the manufacturer says. GTX Corp said the first batch of 3,000 pairs of shoes has been shipped to the footwear firm Aetrex Worldwide, two years after plans were announced to develop the product. The shoes will sell at around $300 a pair and buyers will be able to set up a monitoring service to locate “wandering” seniors suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. Andrew Carle, a professor at George Mason University’s College of Health and Human Services who was an adviser on the project, said the shoes are likely to save lives and avoid embarrassing and costly incidents with the elderly. “It’s especially important for people in the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s who are at the highest risk,” Carle told AFP. “They might be living in their home but they’re confused. They go for a walk and
they can get lost for days.” Carle said studies indicate more than five million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s, a number expected to quadruple in the coming years. He said 60 percent of sufferers will wander and become lost and up to half of those lost who are not found within 24 hours may die, from dehydration, exposure or injury. Other devices such as bracelets or pendants can provide similar protection but seniors often reject these. “The primary reason is that paranoia is a manifestation of the disease,” Carle said. “If you put something on someone with Alzeheimer’s that they don’t recognize, they remove it. If it’s a wristwatch and it’s not their wristwatch, they will take it off. So you have to hide it.” The GPS system, which is implanted in the heel of what appears to be a normal walking shoe, allows family members or carers to monitor the wearer and to set up a “geofence” that would trigger an alert if the person strays beyond a certain area.

The fossil of a python dating from about 15 million years ago has been discovered in southern Germany, first time proof that the reptile lived so far north, German palaeontologists said Monday. They deduced from a group of
seven vertebrae that the python had measured three and a half metres (11.5 feet). The fossil of the python, normally found in tropical regions of Africa and Asia, was found about 80 kilometres (50 miles) northwest of Munich by a team of German and Czech researchers.
“With the sudden fall in temperatures 14 million years ago, the destiny of this python... was sealed,” Madeleine Boehme, of the palaeontologist working group at Tuebingen University said. They worked with colleagues from Masaryk University in the Czech city of Brno.

Gresini team to miss Valencia? THE San Carlo Honda Gresini team looks set to withdraw from the season-ending Valencia MotoGP, following the tragic death of Marco Simoncelli in Sunday’s Malaysian race. “The only certain thing is that my team will not participate in the next Grand Prix in Valencia, or the tests scheduled after the race,” GPone.com reports team principal Fausto Gresini as saying. The Italian, a former double 125cc world champion, has experienced the pain of losing a rider before - Gresini Honda running Daijiro Kato when the Japanese lost his life at Suzuka in 2003. Simoncelli’s death is the first in the premier-class since Kato. Speaking of Simoncelli, who had raced for Gresini since his MotoGP debut at the start of 2010 and had recently re-signed for 2012, Fausto said:
“I have so many images that come to mind of these two years together. Marco was spontaneous, always did what he thought was right, with a heart of gold and always happy. I do not remember seeing him angry once... “A special boy who came from a special family. He and his father were particularly close, like brothers.” Simoncelli, the 2008 250cc world champion, finished eighth in his rookie MotoGP and had progressed rapidly in his second, scoring two poles and two podiums. The 24-year-old Italian had claimed his best MotoGP finish of second just one week earlier in Australia. The Valencia Grand Prix will be held from November 4-6, which would be Hiroshi Aoyama’s last ride for Gresini before switching to the World Superbike Championship.
