LOS ANGELES — The adult film industry announced a moratorium on the making of porn films Wednesday after an actor tested positive for HIV. The performer was not immediately identified and officials didn’t say when the positive test was recorded. The actor’s sex partners are currently being tested by doctors with Adult Production Health and Safety Services, which works with the porn industry. “The moratorium will be lifted once the risk of transmission has been eliminated,” Diane Duke, executive director of the industry trade group the Free Speech Coalition, told The Associated Press in an email. She added that the actor is not believed to

have been infected on a film set. The industry briefly put a similar moratorium in place last year after nearly a dozen performers were infected during a syphilis outbreak. Word of the latest moratorium quickly drew critical responses from porn industry opponents. Among them was Michael Weinstein, whose group the AIDS Healthcare Foundation success-

fully lobbied voters last year to adopt an ordinance requiring actors use condoms in the making of most porn films. “How many adult film performers have to become infected with an array of preventable sexually transmitted diseases — including HIV, which is not curable — before the porn industry actually complies with the law requiring condom use,” he said in a statement. Since the ordinance’s adoption, county officials have said they are investigating one violation. The expectation of most of the Balinese to stop the reclamation plan seems to be flushed away. The effort done by the people is still not resulting in a good end product. The Governor is issuing a new permit to PT TWBI to continue the study of reclamation. The letter is dated on August 16, 2013 and the permit is given 2 years prior to the issuing date. In

the letter, the Governor also evoked his own letter regarding the use of the coastal area. Stated in the letter

that the decision made by the government is based on the need of the area, the study is needed to make the use of the coastal area is more efficient, economical, environmentally friendly and appreciating the local decency. There is also statement that explaining that the government can cancel a regulation regarding the city plan and the use of the area in

the city. In the letter, PT TWBI is given the right to use the coastal area on Benoa Bay in Southern Denpasar, Denpasar and some part which is located in Badung Regency. The permit owner must follow the rule and regulation and cooperate with the local university in carrying out the study. The PT TWBI must also gather the opinion of the

The paddy plants facing harvest failure were mostly located at Subak Pegayaman covering three hamlets, namely the Labuan Aji, Tengah hamlet and Pegayaman hamlet. Virtually all the attacked-plants could not be harvested. To anticipate the wider attack by the leafhopper to other location, farmers began to burn down their rice crops. Some farmers at Temukus area said on Wednesday (Aug 21) the leafhoppers began attacking the area since the rice plant was 1.5 months old. The attack was estimated to occur continuously so the ready-to-harvest rice turned damaged. Some farmers claimed to suffer substantial losses. “We lost about IDR 7 million because the cost of fertilizer is quite expensive,” said a farmer. Chief of Subak Pegayaman, Made Srinata, said the

Traffic flows downtown Singaraja underwent a change because a number of road section were closed due to a series of events related to the Buleleng Festival (Bulfest) opened on Friday (Aug 23). Trucks usually banned from entering the city were then allowed to pass downtown during the event. The Head of the Buleleng Transportation Agency, Made Arya Sukerta, accompanied by the Spokesperson of Buleleng government, Gede Sugiartha, said on Wednesday (Aug 21) that his party had made coordination on the change of the traffic flows. The change came into effect on Thursday (Aug 22). A number of road sections would be closed, namely starting from the intersection of Jalan Veteran at Paket Agung village to Lion Monument and Jalan Ngurah Rai starting from the intersection of Jalan Kresna and the intersection of Jalan Pahlawan starting from Jalan Gunung Agung. Friday afternoon (Aug 23), Jalan Ngurah Rai would be totally closed from the intersection of Jalan Udayana. According to Arya Sukerta, during the road closure, the traffic flows would be diverted to particular road section. Meanwhile, the trucks from the east, which usually passed through Jalan Gempol Banyuning would be diverted to the town through Jalan Surapati, Jalan Hassanudin and Jalan Sutomo heading for Jalan Ahmad Yani. Interestingly, to minimize the traffic congestion during the Buleleng Festival visitors would be directed to ride public transport for free. “The public transport whose operation has been subsidized by the committee will be alerted at three terminals, namely the Penarukan, Banyuasri and Sangket Terminal,” he said. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

A teenager or even a young 20-something who probably mostly wears jeans or shorts has never really lived through a high-fashion pants moment, she says. This is her chance. She can break away from leggings or skinny jeans — or at least try them in prints — and she should try the relaxed trackpant silhouette that has broken out as a trend, says Lepore, who designs a youthful line for JCPenney called L’Amour. “It’s going to be a little bit of a leap

for her, but she’s going to get the coolness of them.” “I have them on today,” Lepore said. “I wear them with a nice peasant top — I decided to mix it with something soft and feminine — but most girls will wear it with a simple T-shirt. But I wanted to move it to a new place if we’re going to make it our new go-to pant.” For a more sophisticated customer, she’d recommend clean, slim-leg trousers paired with a tailored suit jacket. “I really think the suit could be the new dress.” And Lepore says higher waistbands are on the way. As for the wide-leg option, it’s out there, especially a cropped style that landed on Nasr ’s radar after previews of the resort collections that will be available around the holidays. She predicts there will be even more of them next spring, but adds that they’re an acquired taste and won’t be for everyone. Lepore says women “just love skinny pants. We will put other things on the runway, like that soft pant, which morphed into a cargo pant, but I don’t see a flared leg coming back anytime soon.” The jumpsuit, however, is

ripe for a return, says designer Abi Ferrin, who spent three years retooling the silhouette to create one she thought would work for her own more curvy shape. Ferrin is better known for her dresses, but she really wanted the jumpsuit in her repertoire. Her newest twist for fall is a jumpsuit with the geniestyle, cinched-bottom ankle. “It seems scary until you try it on, but you put it on, and put on a tall shoe, and it looks great,” Ferrin says. “It’s work upfront, but it’s one and done. You get the ease of pants, but all you have to do is add earrings and a cuff bracelet.” But trying on pants is something many women dread, says Devina Foley, vice president of merchandising at retailer Loft. She’s been dubbed “the pants whisperer” inside the company as she has worked with chief style director Alia Ahmed-Yahia to overhaul the design, fit and overall shopping experience for pants. “There are a lot of women who need to hire a baby sitter because they know it’s going to take them so long to get pants,” says Foley. It doesn’t have to be that way; it could be a five-minute transaction, she pledges.

The suffering could be a little paid off with the increase in profits due to difference in the dollar exchange rate against the rupiah. “The product basic price of the Indonesia’s textile products is too high. So, it’s hard for textile entrepreneurs in Bali to compete against foreign competitors. This condition requires the textile entrepreneurs to create innovative product and keep the efficiency,” he said. Although the operating time of machine in the production was the same, he said the labor cost and electricity cost including the other levies made the textile entrepreneurs get low margin. Cariole Still Survives amidst Congestion of Denpasar Traditional means of transportation such as cariole has become a favorite in the 1960s. In harmony with the passage of time, the presence of cariole is increasingly marginalized by modern means of transportation such as motorcycles and cars. Now, the number of cariole remaining to operate around Denpasar is few and far between. According to a cariole driver met around the Badung Market, Nengah Purna, the number of surviving cariole was only about 10-15 units. Such number spread out in several places in the Badung Market. Like in the east of the temple, the place was only used by three cariole drivers to hang out. Purna has deeply involved in such profession since 1963. “I have been here since I was a teenager. When the Mount Agung erupted, I have been a cariole driver,” said the 70-year old grandfather. He said that before the flooding means of transportation like motorcycles, the cariole was highly required to convey and escort passengers bringing along their groceries from the market. From the results of his livelihood, he was able to support his wife and three children and sent them school and college. However, his earning as a cariole driver today was not much. Though visitors to the market were crowded ahead of Galungan, he said, they had no great impact on his earning. “From eleventh o’clock just now until this time, I have not got passengers at all,” he said. Within a day, he was only able to earn IDR 10,000 to IDR 30,000. “Except for transporting guests (foreign visitors) and on Sunday, I can earn more,” he said. However, Nengah Purna would like to maintain his profession. This grandpa from Ulakan, Karangasem, started his activity as a cariole driver from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. He used to take passengers from Badung Market to the farthest point on Jalan Nangka. TOKYO - Japan’s nuclear watchdog said a leak of highly radioactive water at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant could be the beginning of a new disaster - a series of leaks of contaminated water from storage tanks. The plant operator has built hundreds of steel tanks to store massive amounts of radioactive water coming from three melted reactors, as well as underground water running into reactor and turbine basements. Tokyo Electric Power Co. says about 300 tons (300,000 liters, 80,000 gallons) of contaminated water leaked from one of the tanks, possibly through a seam. The leak is the fifth, and the worst, since last year involving tanks of the same design at the wrecked Fukushima Dai-ichi plant, raising concerns that contaminated water could begin leaking from storage tanks one after another. “That’s what we fear the most. We must remain alert. We should assume that what has happened once could happen again, and prepare for more,” Nuclear Regulation Authority Chairman Shunichi Tanaka told a news conference. “We are in a situation where there is no time to waste.”

The watchdog also proposed at a weekly meeting Wednesday to raise the rating of the seriousness of the leak to level 3, a “serious incident,” from level 1, “an anomaly,” on an International Nuclear and Radiological event scale from 0 to 7. The watchdog urged TEPCO to step up monitoring for leaks and take precautionary measures. During the meeting, officials also revealed that plant workers apparently have overlooked several signs of leaks, suggesting that their twice-daily patrols were largely just a walk. They have not monitored water levels inside tanks, obviously missed a puddle forming at the bottom of the tank earlier, and kept open a valve on an anti-leakage barrier around the tanks. TEPCO said the leaked water is believed to have mostly seeped into the ground after escaping from the barrier around the tank. It initially said the leak did not pose an immediate threat to the sea because of its distance - about 500 meters (1,650 feet) - from the coastline. But TEPCO reversed that view late Wednesday and acknowledged a possible leak to the sea after detecting high radioactivity inside a gutter extending to the ocean.

Egypt to put ex-leader Mubarak under house arrest

CAIRO - Egypt’s prime minister ordered Wednesday that deposed autocrat Hosni Mubarak be placed under house arrest after he’s released from prison following more than two years in detention. The announcement came hours after a court ordered Mubarak be released for the first time since he was first detained in April 2011, a

move threatening to further stoke tension in a deeply divided Egypt. Many feared Mubarak’s release would amplify Islamist allegations that last month’s military coup was a step toward restoring the old regime. Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi said in a statement that he ordered Mubarak be put under house arrest as part of the emergency measures put in place this month.

The decision appeared designed to ease some of the criticism over Mubarak being freed from prison and ensure he appears in court next week for a separate trial. Prison officials said Mubarak may be released as early as Thursday. It is not clear where Mubarak will be held under house arrest, whether in one of his residences or in a hospital considering his frail health. Since his ouster, Mubarak’s

supporters have released conflicting details about his health, including that the 85 year old suffered a stroke, a heart attack and at times went into a coma. His critics called these an attempt to gain public sympathy and court leniency. His wife, Suzanne, has been living in Cairo and keeping a lowprofile, occasionally visiting Mubarak and their two sons in prison. But security officials said Mubarak

was more likely to be moved to a military hospital because of his ailing health. The order for Mubarak’s release followed an appeal by his lawyers in one of his corruption cases. He is also on trial on charges of complicity in the killing of protesters in the 2011 uprising against him that could put him back behind bars. He faces investigation into at least two other corruption cases as well.

HONG KONG - India’s rupee sank to another record low on Thursday as emerging Asian currencies retreated after US Federal Reserve minutes failed to provide clarity about the future of its stimulus programme. In share trading Jakarta was down 1.54 percent, Kuala Lumpur lost 1.57 percent and Bangkok shed 1.07 percent but Mumbai was up 1.50 percent as dealers picked up bargains after recent losses. Manila slumped 5.96 percent as the market played catch-up with the rest of the region after being closed for four days owing to severe flooding and a public holiday. its $85 billion a month stimulus known as quantitative easing (QE), which has fuelled an investment splurge in emerging Asia over the past year. Some board members believed that “it might soon be time to slow somewhat the pace” of the bond purchases, aimed at holding interest rates down, minutes of its July meeting released Wednesday showed. But others highlighted “the importance of being patient”, revealing concerns about whether the economy will pick up pace as expected in the second half of this year. Fed chief Ben Bernanke has said QE will remain in place until the US economy can stand on its own feet. Asian market traders reacted initially with a heavy sell-off but early losses were clawed back. Tokyo closed down 0.44 percent, or 59.16 points, at 13,365.17, Seoul fell 0.98 percent, or 18.34 points, to 1,849.12 and Sydney was off 0.48 percent, or 24.3 points, to close at 5,075.7. Against major currencies the dollar stood at 98.26 yen, compared with 97.67 yen in New York Wednesday. The euro bought $1.3347 and 13116 yen, compared with $1.3358 and 130.46.

Ultimately, they can be used according to their function. While the human mind can be adjured a sharpness and intelligence, so that they can use them appropriately.

The bus, which fell about 60 meters (200 feet) into the ravine, was carrying mostly Malaysians, Mansor said. He did not have nationality details for the fatalities, but those who survived included Malaysians and others from Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand. More than 400 firefighters, police and medical officers used ropes and cranes to reach the bus, which had been heading to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s main city. The cause of the accident was not known. The bus driver was among those killed, Mansor said. Genting Highlands attracts thousands of domestic visitors and foreign tourists every week. Serious accidents are rare on the relatively well-maintained roads leading to the area’s main resorts.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake at 7:38 a.m. (8:38 a.m.; 1238 GMT) had a magnitude of 6.2. It was centered near the Pacific coast and about 60 miles (100 kilometers) east of Acapulco. No significant injuries were reported, but a chunk of ornamental plaster work fell off the facade of one hotel on Acapulco’s once-glamorous main boulevard. Cracks were found in the walls of a university in Acapulco and a concrete entrance gate at a local military base collapsed, said Victor Torres Ruiz, the spokesman for the state government of Guerrero, where Acapulco is located. JAKARTA - Government is formulating a package of economic policies it will announce on Friday in the face of current economic upheavals. The Ministry of Finance, the central bank (Bank Indonesia/BI) and the Financial Service Authority (OJK) are now engaged in a close coordination an effort to maintain national economic stability. “We are taking anticipatory measures in the face of the current economic conditions. We have now good communication and exchanged information to share similar views,” Finance Minister Chatib Basri said after having a coordination meeting with BI Governor Agus Martowardojo and OJK Chief Commissioner Muliaman Hadad on Wednesday. Chatib said that the current conditions were different from the economic crisis in 2008 or in 1998. But the government is preparing a step in the form of a package of economic policies to stave off current account deficit, the weakening of the rupiah currency and to maintain growth. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono chaired a cabinet meeting to discuss efforts to face the current economic conditions on Wednesday. “The government will formulate measures to maintain financial stability, curb inflation and maintain growth so that it will not drop sharp-

According to Finance Minister Chatib Basri, the package will be announced on Friday. “We are currently finalizing the package. The public will be informed of its release on Friday. BERLIN - German club Schalke 04 accused police of being unnecessarily tough with their fans after moving in to remove a controversial banner during their 1-1 draw against Greece’s PAOK in their Champions League playoff tie on Wednesday. Riot police, using pepper spray and rubber batons, briefly moved into the stands to remove a Macedonian banner unfurled by the home supporters that had angered the visiting fans, with Greece in a long-standing name dispute with its northern neighbour. “This deployment, however, was completely disproportionate. We cannot approve any of this, nor do we have any understanding for it,” said Schalke board member Peter Peters in a statement. Schalke said despite repeated efforts to have the fans remove it, the banner remained, further angering the Greek supporters. “Fans in the north tribune had unfurled a banner of “Komiti Skopje”, the ultras of (Macedonian club) Vardar Skopje who are friends of the Schalke ultras,” the club said. “According to police it was a case of agitation.” The incident in the second half lasted only a few minutes and was barely noticed by players and coaches of the two teams.
