LOS ANGELES — It’s been five years since Michael Jackson died, yet his career is more alive than it has been in decades. Just last month, the singer moonwalked across a Las Vegas stage in a nationally televised hologram performance. A new album recently debuted at No. 2 on music charts. And a traveling Cirque du Soleil show based on Jackson’s songs has logged nearly 500 performances worldwide. The result has been an estate that has earned more than $600 million since the King of Pop’s untimely death at age 50. Some of the earnings support Jackson’s three children and mother. Yet an analysis by The Associated Press shows much more has gone to erase the singer’s massive debts and to run the estate that powers his robust posthumous career. As would be expected, the last five years h av e b r o u g h t t h e i r share of change and adjustment for Jackson’s children, known to the world as Prince, 17; Paris, 16; and Blanket, 12. They were at their father’s rented mansion on June 25, 2009, when he was given an overdose of the anesthetic propofol in his upstairs bedroom. And they were at the hospital several hours later when he was pronounced dead. It would take more than two years before Jackson’s

AMLAPURA - Three counties in Bali namely Karangasem, Jembrana and Buleleng have included in the emergency condition in the matter of sexual crimes against minors. It was revealed by Chairman of the National Commission for Child Protection, Aris Merdeka Sirait, when speaking at the workshop of the implementation of Regional Bylaw No.1/2013 on the smoke-free zone (KTR) in Karangasem recently. Similar condition experienced by Karangasem was also admitted by Deputy Regent of Karangasem, Made Sukerana, in his speech when opening the workshop. He recognized that sexual harassment or sexual crime against minors in Karangasem was quite high. Even, it also involved a secretary to customary village and the culprit had been arrested by police. Meanwhile, in terms of the dweller of the Child Karangasem Prison, of the 12 male child dwellers some time ago, most of them or 8 children got involved in sexual crimes against underage girls. Balinese Temple Ceremony Every Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc. The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion. The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines. In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbulumbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Buyers reported more problems in their new cars and trucks this year than last year, according to rankings released Wednesday by the consulting firm J.D. Power. It was the second straight increase since 2012, when the average number of problems in new cars and trucks hit an all-time low. Car makers are feeling pressure to add new technology and update vehicles quickly so they don’t get stale. But car buyers are frustrated with Bluetooth systems that won’t connect to their phones, voice recognition systems that don’t understand them and navigation systems that aren’t getting them where they need to go. “Anytime you make a significant change to a vehicle you have the opportunity to introduce more problems,” said David Sargent, vice president for global automotive at J.D. Power. Porsche, Jaguar, Lexus and Hyundai and Toyota were the bestperforming brands in this year’s survey. The worst performers were Fiat, Jeep, Mitsubishi, Scion and Mazda. Sargent said younger buyers are more likely to complain about problems than older drivers, who are more tolerant of mechanical issues. “Younger drivers didn’t grow up in an era where cars had things that fell off,” Sargent said. On the flip side, he said, younger drivers are less frustrated by the technology in their cars. This year’s rankings were compounded by the harsh winter in the Northeast and Midwest. In those areas, there were more complaints than usual about heating systems, engine and transmission problems and exterior trim and paint problems, Sargent said. Buyers reported an average of 116 problems per 100 vehicles in the first 90 days of ownership, up 3 percent from last year. J.D. Power surveyed 86,000 owners between February and March of this year. One major brand, Tesla, isn’t included because J.D. Power didn’t have enough data from owners. U.S. citizen found dead at villa Bali Post

TABANAN - An American citizen was found dead in his villa at Anyar hamlet, Lalanglinggah village, West Selemadeg subdistrict. The victim was first discovered by Ketut Mangku Arjana, 25, a resident Amed, Purwa Kerti village, Abang subdistrict, Karangasem, Friday (Jun 20) around 10:00 a.m. The witness is also the victim’s confidant during he was still alive. Allegedly the victim died of an illness. Chief of Tabanan Police Criminal Investigator Unit, Wayan Arta Ariawan, said that from the testimony of witness, the victim named Adam Banwell from California originally complained about back headache and fever for a week. However, the victim did not consult to a doctor. Even, according to the witness, in the past two days the victim claimed to be unable to eat well and his voice was not clearly audible. “On the day before, around 8:00 p.m., as usual the witness was pre-

paring food for the victim. Even, the witness said if he accompanied the victim to have dinner until 8:30 p.m., but the victim only ate a little bit,” he explained. However, when the witness was about to wake up the victim and make juice in the next morning, the witness was shocked to see the lifeless condition of the victim. The victim was seen to have discharged fluid from the mouth and dried out. Seeing the victim’s condition, the witness approached and held the hand to check the victim’s condition. Unfortunately, the victim was stiff. Furthermore, the witness contacted local hamlet chief. “From the crime scene investigation and examination on the victim’s body by doctor from local community health center, it was not found any signs of violence. WASHINGTON — It’s the fog of diplomacy. For years, Iran has been an archenemy of the United States. Now, with alliances blurred in the Mideast, the two countries are talking about how to stop an offensive in Iraq by al-Qaida-inspired insurgents. How is it that adversaries that haven’t trusted each other for 35 years could cooperate on Iraq today? They are strange bedfellows, to say the least. In the Syrian civil war, the U.S. backs the opposition. Iran supports Syrian President Bashar Assad. The U.S. for three decades has considered Iran a “state sponsor of terrorism.” The U.S. says Iran bankrolls anti-Israel terrorist groups and other extremists intent on destabilizing the Middle East. The U.S. has threatened Iran with military action if Tehran approaches the capacity to develop nuclear weapons. But despite all the differences, the U.S. and Iran are more engaged diplomatically at this moment than in years. After a breakthrough interim agreement last year, the U.S., Iran and other nations are hoping to wrap up a deal within the next month that would curb Iran’s nuclear program. Progress on nuclear talks is lead-

ing American officials to explore whether Iran can be a useful partner on interests long viewed as shared, such as fighting Sunni extremism and ensuring the stability of Iraq. Iran, like the Iraqi government, is Shiite. The insurgent group leading the assault in Iraq, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, is Sunni. But there is worry that Iran is trying to leverage its helpfulness on Iraq into better terms in the nuclear negotiations. “I would be skeptical that cooperating with Iran — particularly sharing sensitive intelligence information — would be in our overall interest,” Sen. KIEV, Ukraine — Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support Saturday for Ukraine’s unilateral cease-fire in its battle against pro-Russian separatists and appealed to both sides to halt all military operations. But he warned that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s blueprint for peace would not be viable without action to start peace negotiations. The qualified Russian backing for Poroshenko’s effort to halt the conflict was another in a series of shifting Kremlin moves and statements that leave unclear the level of Moscow’s commitment to de-escalating the conflict. Putin’s conciliatory words came on the same day he ordered large-scale military exercises that NATO criticized as likely to raise tensions. U.S. officials also accused Russian troops of moving back into positions near the border with Ukraine’s troubled east. The Kremlin said in a statement that Putin “calls on the opposing sides to halt any military activities and sit down at the negotiating table.” The statement said Putin supported Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s decision to order Ukrainian troops to observe a unilateral cease-fire starting Friday night.

But it added that Putin wanted to draw “attention to the fact that the proposed plan, without practical action directed at a beginning for a negotiating process, will not be viable or realistic.” Poroshenko bills the unilateral cease-fire as designed to inspire a wider peace plan that would include an amnesty for pro-Russian separatist fighters who disarm. BRUSSELS — Germany’s finance minister on Monday issued a stark warning that global central banks’ efforts to inject more liquidity into the financial system are feeding asset bubbles — which could eventually burst and cause the next crisis. Wolfgang Schaeuble also rejected a recommendation by the International Monetary Fund that the European Central Bank should resort to largescale bond purchases — of the kind the Federal Reserve is making — to help growth and protect the 18-nation eurozone from deflation. “We don’t have too little liquidity in financial markets but rather too much,” Schaeuble said after a meeting of European finance ministers in Luxembourg. “All experience of economic history tells us that such situations lead to bubbles,” he added, noting that the low interest rates in developed economies are pushing investors into riskier

markets including real estate. Germany has long been aggressive on combating inflation and cautious about big stimulus programs. The IMF on Thursday recommended that the ECB should make large-scale purchases of assets such as bonds if “inflation remains stubbornly low.” The eurozone’s inflation rate stands at 0.5 percent, well below the ECB target of 2 percent. A deflationary slump, in which prices fall persistently, would threaten to choke economic growth. FALFURRIAS, Texas — Mass graves have been discovered in a south Texas cemetery, and researchers believe they contain the bodies of immigrants who died crossing into the U.S. illegally, according to published reports Saturday. The discovery at Sacred Heart Burial Park in Falfurrias came as part of a multi-year effort to identify immigrants who’ve died in the area near the U.S.-Mexico border. The remote area is often deadly for immigrants from Mexico and Central America who set out on foot through ranchlands amid sweltering temperatures to avoid a nearby U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint. Anthropologists Lori Baker and Krista Latham and their students unearthed remains in trash bags, shopping bags, body bags or without a container at all, according to the Corpus Christi Caller Times. In one burial, bones of three bodies were inside one body bag. In another, at least five people in body bags and smaller plastic bags were piled on top of each other. Skulls also were found in biohazard bags placed between coffins. Latham called the discovery appalling. Baker said bodies that were not already skeletonized before burial were found in varying states of decomposition. “To me it’s just as shocking as the mass grave that you would picture in your head, and it’s just as disrespectful,” Latham told the Caller Times. They exhumed 110 unidentified people from the cemetery in 2013. This summer, researchers have performed 52 exhumations, but because some remains were stored together, further study will be needed to determine exactly how many bodies have been recovered, Baker said. Researchers told the newspaper that some remains were found under small, temporary grave markers bearing the name of local funeral home Funeraria del Angel Howard-Williams. Brooks and Jim Hogg county officials said they pay the funeral home to handle bodies recovered in the remote parts of South Texas. More than 300 people died crossing through Brooks County alone between 2011 and 2013 — representing more than 50 percent of the deaths in Texas’ sprawling Rio Grande Valley.

INDONESIA Fears terror return as fighters head to Syria, Iraq Agence France-Presse

JAKARTA - Indonesians are joining the procession of jihadists to Syria and Iraq, sparking fears they will revive sophisticated militant networks when they return and undermine a decade-long crackdown that has crippled the most dangerous cells. Support for groups like the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Sunni radicals currently rampaging through northern Iraq, is growing among Indonesian extremists with dozens believed to have joined the insurgency. Analysts say the fighters will pose a new and serious threat to Indonesia when they return home with honed insurgency tactics and international militant connections, echoing the concerns of Western governments. Britain and Australia have expressed fears that Syria and Iraq are breeding grounds for violent fanatics who travel there from the West to fight and pose a threat to national security on their return. Indonesia, the world’s biggest Muslimmajority nation, has long struggled with terrorism but a successful clampdown in recent years has seen the end of major deadly attacks -- ironically fuelling interest in Syria and Iraq. “There’s not much going on with jihad in Indonesia for militants anymore,” said Taufik Andrie, a terrorism expert at the Institute for International Peacebuilding. “There are just splinter groups with no resources or support, so many are inspired by what’s going on in Iraq and Syria,” he told AFP.

“When they return, they will be seen as high-profile jihadi. Young people will come to them for training, to form new groups, to plan attacks, to teach how to fight and make bombs.” Indonesia’s anti-terror unit has acknowledged that support for ISIL is growing, judging by rallies, social media and the sermons of radical preachers. The militants have crossed the border from Syria into northern Iraq and taken over key cities in lightning gains, bringing the Iraqi army to its knees. Indonesia estimates that 60 Indonesians have travelled to Syria and Iraq to fight but experts say the figure is closer to 100 and growing fast. There are no laws prohibiting Indonesians from joining foreign militant groups and Islamic organisations have openly held fundraisers for ISIL. “The government must pass legislation to criminalise citizens supporting and travelling overseas to join terrorist groups,” Rohan Gunaratna, a terrorism expert at Singapore’s S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, told AFP. Analysts point to neighbouring Malaysia which has been more active, arresting a dozen men in April who were trying to leave the country to fight in Syria.

It failed, however, to prevent a 26-year-old Malaysian from leaving the country for Iraq, where he carried out a suicide attack that killed 25 soldiers. BANDUNG - A controversial Nazi-themed cafe in Indonesia that closed shop last year after sparking international outrage reopened Saturday with its walls still bearing swastikas and a painting of Adolf Hitler. The SoldatenKaffee (“The Soldiers’ Cafe”) was voluntarily shut down last July following death threats to the owner Henry Mulyana, who was accused of inciting racial hatred. This time Mulyana has sought to escape criticism by broadening the theme of his cafe, adding images of other World War II figures like Winston Churchill and Josef Stalin alongside Nazi-related memorabilia that triggered global outrage. Following its closure last year, Mulyana’s lawyer had told AFP that the cafe would be reopened after a revamp -- without any swastikas. But at the Saturday opening, three huge iron eagles bearing swastikas were exhibited, as were WWII propaganda posters bearing the Nazi symbol. “From the beginning I have said that the SoldatenKaffee is not a Nazi cafe. This cafe’s theme is World War II,” Mulyana told reporters at the reopening in the western Java city of Bandung. “All aspects of the SoldatenKaffee are legal. We have a lot of customers from Europe and they don’t have a problem with the World War II theme, because it is seen here from a historical perspective,” he said. Dozens of mostly young Indonesians attended the opening dressed in military outfits, including one with a swastika armband, and some posed for photos as prisoners of war in a mock interrogation room. “It’s no problem for me. It’s just a business, it’s not an issue of ideology,” 25-year-old Mega, who gave only her first name, told AFP. “Some people who come here are intellectuals and many are observers who are keenly interested in World War II, and they’re collectors,” she said. British, French, American, Japanese and Dutch military memorabilia were also on display at the reopened cafe. Rizal Effendi, a 28-year-old first-time customer, also attended the opening, taking pictures in fascination of the memorabilia. “The Nazis are from the past. And everyone already knows the history. In my opinion, it’s really cool hanging out here, and you can learn the history of World War II at the same time,” he said. The reports prompted fierce criticism from overseas, particularly from Jewish organisations, including the LA-based Simon Wiesenthal Center, which expressed its “outrage and disgust” and called for the cafe’s closure. Brazil — Spain will take on Australia in its match Monday in the knowledge that officially make its defense of the World Cup the worst in history. Following two straight defeats for both teams, neither can qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup. But Spain in particular has something to play for, despite having already made history of the wrong kind. It is the first defending champion in modern times to be eliminated after two matches, following a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of the Dutch and a 2-0 loss to Chile. In 1934 Uruguay did not defend its trophy while in 1950 Italy failed to get through a three-team group despite winning a match. On Monday, Spain will seek to avoid notching another negative milestone. No defending champion has ever exited a tournament without securing a single point. France came closest in 2002 when it finished last in its group, having only managed to draw one of its games in its goalless campaign in South Korea. Following a six-year period of domination which has seen it win two straight European Championships as well as the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, Spain’s woes at the World Cup have come as huge surprise. Many of the players that took the field in the opening two games are likely to be on the bench at the Arena da Baixada in the southern city of Curitiba. In the wake of the Dutch thrashing, coach Vicente del Bosque already rang the changes in the second match against Chile when he dropped Xavi Hernandez and Gerard Pique from the start. When the country did finally make it to football’s biggest stage, the team was eliminated from contention in barely a week. Consecutive losses — 2-1 against Argentina in its opener and then 1-0 to Nigeria on Saturday — confirmed that the Bosnians will not advance from the group stage on their tournament debut. “They are all depressed, disappointed, silent in the dressing room,” Bosnia-Herzegovina coach Safet Susic said of his players. “It’s true, if our best players play at their best level, we can beat anybody. If they don’t, it’s difficult for us to win.” They won’t be departing with a whimper either, with star striker Edin Dzeko not holding back in his criticism of the match officials after they disallowed a goal for
